<br /> <keyword id="6398539" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chhota-Rajan">Chhota Rajan</keyword>, the Indian underworld gangster caught on 25<sup>th</sup> October by the Indonesian police in Bali, has hinted at connections that “some officers” in Mumbai Police have with the underworld kingpin Dawood Ibrahim. He also stated that he is not afraid of Ibrahim and would continue his fight against him. It is to be known that Rajan was once a close confidante of Dawood, who is wanted for his involvement in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, in which more than 350 people lost their lives. <br />

Rajan, who was arrested in Bali, the popular tourist town of Indonesia, on his arrival from Australia on October 25, is expected to be produced before a court soon where the Indonesian police will submit details of the cases for which he is wanted in India. <br />
<br />
He is likely to be deported to India soon. "The entire process is likely to be completed in next two-three days," an Indian official had said yesterday. <br />
<br />
"The government can keep me anywhere - Delhi or Mumbai. But there should be no injustice done to me. All cases against me are false," Rajan, who is wanted in over 75 heinous crimes ranging from murder, extortion to smuggling and drug trafficking, told reporters when asked whether he was afraid of returning to Mumbai. <br />
<br />
"Mumbai police has been unjust to me. Delhi government taking note of that should do justice to me," he said. <br />
<br />
An Indian team has been working with its Indonesian counterparts to take over Rajan's custody. <br />
<br />
The Indian team, comprising officers from CBI, Mumbai and Delhi police, arrived here on Sunday and they came along with a detailed dossier on 55-year-old Rajan and his involvement in various crimes in India. <br />
<br />
The team for the first time questioned him yesterday in the presence of Indonesian police at the detention centre where he has been lodged for the last 10 days. <br />
<br />
First Secretary (consular) in the Indian Embassy in Jakarta, Sanjeev Kumar Agrawal, who met Rajan for nearly half an hour on Sunday, was also present when the Indian team examined Rajan. <br />
<br />
While being taken out of the detention centre, Rajan had said that Dawood is currently hiding in Pakistan under the direct patronage of ISI.  <br />
<br />
"ISI chhupa rahi hai (ISI is hiding him)," he said.  <br />
<br />
Mumbai Police has registered 20 murder cases against Rajan, four cases under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act, one under Prevention of Terrorism Act and over 20 cases under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act. Delhi Police has got six cases against him. <br />
<br />
Rajan, whose original name is Rajendra Sadashiv Nikhalje, was arrested in Bali on the basis of a Red Corner Notice from Interpol and following a tip off by Australian authorities to the police in Indonesia. <br />
<br />
In 2000, there was an attempt on Rajan's life when Dawood's men tracked him down to a hotel in Bangkok but he managed a dramatic escape. <br />
<br />
In the absence of an extradition treaty, the Indian authorities have already provided documents to their Indonesian counterparts about his Indian identity to facilitate his deportation.<br />

However, the plot was disrupted by a posse of Mumbai cops who mysteriously emerged in Delhi to arrest Rajan's accomplice <keyword id="208531" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vicky-Malhotra">Vicky Malhotra</keyword> and <keyword id="328738" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Fareed-Tanasha">Fareed Tanasha</keyword>. <br /><br />

	Malhotra and Tanasha had travelled to Delhi to work out details of the plan.

	It has rekindled suspicions about the manner in which Mumbai cops landed in New Delhi to enlist the help of Delhi Police ostensibly to execute arrest warrants pending against members of Chhota Rajan gang.

	The claim is significant also because of the timing: it comes at a time when evidence has emerged that Doval's interest in the leader of the notorious crime syndicate may not have waned even after a decade he spent outside the government following his superannuation.

	Last week, Indian agencies responded to <span><a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Pakistan-does-it-again-Questions-veracity-of-Indias-dossiers-on-Dawood/articleshow/47187565.cms">claims of Pakistani officials</a> </span>here that they had got dossiers showing complicity of Indian agencies in Baluchistan insurgency by releasing a fresh photograph of the ageing don. So far, Indian agencies have used an old photograph - one which was taken in 1993 - in all the dossiers submitted to Pakistan to claim that the fugitive was being sheltered by the hostile neighbour, and to demand his return. The image of the ageing don with a receding hairline showed that Indian agencies have been tracking him with considerable success.

Date unknown.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Indonesian police have arrested one of India's most wanted gangsters, sought in more than two dozen murder cases, on the resort island of Bali, Indian federal police said on Monday, ending a two-decade-long international manhunt.</p><p>Rajendra Nikalje, widely known as Chhota Rajan, has been on Interpol's wanted list since 1995 for running a crime syndicate that engaged in extortion, arms smuggling and contract killing.</p><p>Nikalje, a career criminal who got his start petty theif who eventually found himself under the tutelige of Bada Rajan in the 1980s. After the death of Bada, Nikalje took his place in the criminal organization and assumed the alias "Chhota Rajan."</p><p>Nikalje was then a top aide to Dawood Ibrahim, a terrorist who carried out <span>India's deadliest bombing, which killed at least 250 people and wounded more than 700 in Mumbai in 1993.</span></p><p><span>At that point, Nikalje broke with Ibrahim, and positioned himself as a "patriotic" gangster, who worked with authorities to track down Ibrahim<a href="http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-news-india/wanted-criminal-chhota-rajan-arrested-in-indonesia/" target="_blank"> according to The Indian Express</a>. Since then, Nikalje has been plagued by assassination attempts from his former boss-turned rival.</span></p><p><span>In 2000, Ibrahim's shooters nearly killed Nikalje in a hospital in Bangkok, but he escaped. He got in touch with Indian authorities, whom he reportedly has deep ties with and had planned to give himself up, <a href="http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-news-india/wanted-criminal-chhota-rajan-arrested-in-indonesia/" target="_blank">according to The Indian Express</a>.</span></p><p>"We tracked Chhota Rajan's movements closely and informed the police in Indonesia and Australia," said Anil Sinha, director of the Central Bureau of Investigation in the Indian capital.</p><p>"Eventually the Indonesian police managed to arrest him.
