A public memorial will be held in Los Angeles in December.<br /><br />What most people don’t know is that Chewbacca is the <a href="https://www.denofgeek.com/us/books/star-wars/272775/star-wars-chewbacca-reading-order-guide">first and only</a> Star Wars character to be killed in the Star Wars universe. It stirred up quite a controversy when <em>Star Wars: The New Jedi Order - Vector Prime </em>was published, despite George Lucas’ approval. The book even made it to the New York Times Hardcover <a href="https://archive.nytimes.com/www.nytimes.com/books/99/10/24/bsp/besthardfiction.html">Bestseller List</a>.<br /><br />The actor’s whose face is unknown to most behind the furry Chewbacca suit was actually 7-feet 2-inches tall. The first and only major character to die in Star Wars just passed away in real life

<ul class="summary-list"><li>"Star Wars" memorabilia belonging to Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew is being auctioned off.</li><li>His wife Angie said the auction "breaks my heart." </li></ul><p><a href="https://www.insider.com/star-wars-peter-mayhew-chewbacca-speaks-english-2019-5">Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew</a> is fondly remembered by "<a href="https://www.insider.com/star-wars-disney-plus-shows-movies">Star Wars</a>" fans around the world for bringing the iconic Wookie to the big screen across the franchise, leaving a wonderful legacy behind after <a href="https://www.insider.com/chewbacca-actor-peter-mayhew-from-star-wars-dead-at-74-2019-5">he passed away in 2019</a>. </p><p>But now his wife, Angie Mayhew, says that some of the actor's personal "Star Wars" memorabilia is being auctioned off in the UK after it was found in the attic of their former home. </p><p>Angie took to Twitter to explain the situation after seeing a tweet about the upcoming auction from BBC presenter Jon Kay.</p><p>Angie issued <a href="https://twitter.com/TheWookieeRoars/status/1623330175860502533" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a statement</a> via the Peter Mayhew Foundation's Twitter account, noting that Mayhew wasn't able to retrieve the old scripts, production notes, and call sheets before they moved out because of his health issues. </p><p>The actor's widow tweeted: "When we moved out of this house Peter's movement challenges made it impossible for him to get into the attic to get the rest of these memories."  </p><p>She added: "It really breaks my heart to see our belongings auctioned off like this by @angusashworth and @RyedaleAuction1."</p><p>Mayhew was diagnosed with gigantism at a young age, eventually growing to be 7-foot-3 inches tall. He had various health issues over the years that affected his mobility, and had a double knee replacement in 2013, as well as spinal surgery in 2018.</p><p>In a followup tweet, Angie said it was one of their "biggest regrets" that they had to leave the "Star Wars" memorabilia behind at their former home.</p><p>She said: "It was one of Peter's and my biggest regrets that we had to leave these items behind, but his knees and joints had gotten to be so painful that he was no longer able to go into the attic to get them."</p><p>When asked by fans why someone else didn't go into the attic, Angie <a href="https://twitter.com/TheWookieeRoars/status/1623333328710520835" target="_blank" rel="noopener">added</a> that there was water damage to the house and her husband didn't want her going up there.</p><p>"We had just come from a convention Peter had appeared at and there had been a water leak so Peter didn't want me to go up there either and we ran out of time.  Moving in general is stressful but moving between countries with a 7'4" disabled partner, it was a very difficult time."</p><p>Many fans have called for the items to be donated to the Peter Mayhew Foundation, and <a href="https://twitter.com/TheWookieeRoars/status/1623383806383104012" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a subsequent tweet</a> confirmed that the auction house has agreed to meet with the family on Thursday regarding the items.</p>

Han Solo passes the torch in new 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' footage

Sure, I read <a href="http://www.theguardian.com/film/2015/dec/16/star-wars-the-force-awakens-review-a-spectacular-homecoming">the glowing reviews</a>, but I was concerned. After seeing the new movie, though, I realise I was wrong to be skeptical.</p><p>First, let me explain why I felt so negative going into the new movie. I'd greedily hoovered up every plot leak and scrap of information about the new movie. This was a mistake.</p><p>I fully expected to sit in the cinema thoroughly bored while the events played out on screen. But the new movie still hooked me in, even if I knew ahead of time what the big reveals were.</p><p>I've been hurt by "Star Wars" in the past. The prequel trilogy should have been great, but it was a misjudged mess, filled with <a href="http://www.weirdworm.com/the-five-most-racist-star-wars-characters/">racist characters</a> and bad acting. In the back of my mind I was worried that the new movie would feel the same way. A major part of the new movie is introducing the new characters: Rey, Finn, Poe, and the evil Kylo Ren. Sure, Han Solo, Princess Leia, R2-D2 and others all return, but there's a passing of the torch. Thankfully the movie doesn't labour over the introductions, it felt natural.</p><p><em>There are a couple of plot spoilers coming, so look away now if you're worried about ruining the movie for yourself.</em></p><p>At one point, midway through the new movie, I nearly shed a tear. It's the moment when Han Solo is reunited with Princess Leia (now a General). Sure, it's an emotional scene, but I was also feeling a bit fragile because I realised that the new movie recaptured the spirit of the original films so perfectly. The plot leaks and new characters didn't matter - it still felt right. The music was there, the original characters were there, and everything fell into place. You'd cry at that too.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Lucasfilm</span></p><p class="caption">Kylo Ren makes for a compelling villain.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Surprisingly, there are no bad performances in the new movie, either. I was expecting to cringe at the new characters, but they're relatively subtle in their performances. There's no <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hi5jjXTPtyY">awkward Hayden Christensen-style delivery</a> here. The new villain, Kylo Ren, is menacing and intriguing in equal measures. Everything works, even the new droid, BB-8, which is a sphere with a head that beeps a lot. It could have been annoying, but it wasn't given screen time just for the sake of it.</p><p>Harrison Ford is the centrepiece of the new movie, whether he likes it or not. When he walked on screen for the first time, the cinema erupted into applause. I cringed slightly, but it was still a great moment. Ford's performance felt reluctant at times, but it's still masterful, and he dominates every scene he's in. Carrie Fisher, meanwhile, doesn't really do a lot in the movie other than hang around her bunker and wander outside to the parking lot, but it's good to see her back in "Star Wars" again.</p><p>The new plot isn't especially clever, nor is it new. There are some bad guys with a big spherical weapon and they're going to shoot it unless the good guys stop them. If you've seen "A New Hope," you know how it goes. However, I'd gladly take a rehash of the original 1977 storyline over a "Phantom Menace"-style rundown of Trade Federation policies any day.</p><p>I had a smile on my face when I walked out of the cinema. The new "Star Wars" movie is a success. Director J.J. Abrams has given fans what they wanted: A return to form for the series, and it includes the original cast. Does the new movie beat the original trilogy,<a href="https://twitter.com/adamfgoldberg/status/676641527599341568"> as some people have claimed</a>? I don't think so. I thought I was going to be disappointed by the new 'Star Wars' movie - but it blew me away

By the time we see Obi-Wan in the new show, he is one of the few Jedi to survive the massacre and is trying to hide from the Sith. </p><p>It had already been announced that "Obi-Wan Kenobi" would bring back many well-known characters from the "Star Wars" universe, such as the infamous villain Darth Vader, who is being played by <a href="https://www.insider.com/star-wars-ewan-mcgregor-hayden-christensen-fans-brought-them-back-2022-5">Hayden Christensen for the first time in 17 years.</a> Vader's relatives Owen, Beru, and the villain's son Luke Skywalker were also teased in the trailer.</p><p>However, "Star Wars" fans were treated to another major character in the first two episodes of the series: A young <keyword id="14046412" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="princess-leia" source="Orion">Princess Leia</keyword> played by child actor Vivien Lyra Blair.</p><h2>Princess Leia is one of the first major "Star Wars" characters introduced in "A New Hope" in 1977</h2><div type="image" title="Princess Leia" height="1200" width="1600" msid="91834237" hostid="261"></div><p>Princess Leia was first introduced in "A New Hope," the first "Star Wars" movie in 1977, and played by the late Carrie Fisher. Leia was a senator who was secretly working with Rebellion to take down the evil Empire led by Vader and Darth Sidious (Ian McDiarmid) in the original trilogy. </p><p>In the first movie, she sets her droids on a mission to contact Obi-Wan (played by Alec Guinness) to help the Rebellion, which set off the chain of events in the trilogy. She eventually works with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and bounty hunters Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) to stop the Empire.</p><p>In the sequel "The Empire Strikes Back," it is revealed that Leia and Luke are twins, and their father is Vader. Vader eventually turns to the good side in the third movie, "Return of the Jedi," and the Empire is defeated.</p><p>"Obi-Wan Kenobi" is set before all of this occurs but <a href="https://www.insider.com/star-wars-star-ewan-mcgregor-found-it-difficult-filming-prequels-2022-5">set after the prequel movies which depict how Vader went from being a Jedi to a Sith Lord.</a></p><p>In "Obi-Wan Kenobi," Leia and Luke are currently being hidden from their father, who believes they died with his wife, Padme (Natalie Portman), in "Revenge of the Sith."</p><p>Leia was fostered by a senator friend of Padme, Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits), which is where we find her halfway through the premiere episode. This is a complete surprise as the character was not mentioned during the press tour or in any trailers for the show.</p><p>Blair plays the young princess as a rebellious but respectful 10-year-old, much like Leia is as an adult. However, in the first episode, she is kidnapped, forcing Obi-Wan to come out of hiding to save her. This means Leia may be part of the story for most of the season, which is great for fans who are already loving the character.</p><h2>Fans are already tweeting about Leia, played by Vivien Lyra Blair</h2><p>While the first season of "The Mandalorian" was praised for its story-telling and beautiful visuals, most fans were talking about the little alien that was brought along the ride, <a href="https://www.insider.com/mandalorian-baby-yoda-concept-art-2019-11">Baby Yoda, also known as Grogu.</a></p><p><a href="https://www.insider.com/best-baby-yoda-tweets-memes-the-mandalorian-2019-11">There were memes</a> and <a href="https://www.insider.com/saturday-night-live-baby-yoda-snl-kyle-mooney-terrifying-makeup-2019-12">"SNL" sketches</a>, and fans seemed to adore the <a href="https://www.insider.com/mandalorian-episode-the-tragedy-tweets-memes-2020-12">father-son dynamic between Grogu and the lead character Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal).</a></p><p>And it seems we may be in store for a similar outpouring of support for young Leia, who Obi-Wan is attempting to save in episode two. <ul class="summary-list"><li>British actor Dave Prowse, who played <keyword id="386507" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Darth-Vader">Darth Vader</keyword> in the original <keyword id="61596" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Star-Wars">Star Wars</keyword> trilogy, has died aged 85 following a short illness, his management has confirmed.</li><li>Prowse originally recorded Darth Vader's voice but his rural English accent was deemed unsuitable and replaced by James Earl Jones. </li><li>The 6ft 6in actor also represented England in weightlifting at the Commonwealth Games in the 60s, according to <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/11/29/dave-prowse-dead-darth-vader-star-wars/">The Telegraph</a>.</li></ul><p>Britsh actor and former weightlifter Dave Prowse, who played Darth Vader in Star Wars, has died aged 85 following a short illness.</p><p>His agent Thomas Bowington <a href="https://twitter.com/BowingtonM/status/1332929745793789952?s=20">tweeted</a>: "It's with great regret and heart-wrenching sadness for us and millions of fans around the world, to announce that our client Dave Prowse MBE has passed away at the age of 85."</p><p>Prowse auditioned for the first Star Wars after director George Lucas saw him play a bodyguard in A Clockwork Orange, <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/11/29/dave-prowse-dead-darth-vader-star-wars/">The Telegraph</a> reported.</p><p>He chose to audition for Darth Vader over Chewbacca "because you always remember the bad guys," he said in a <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/entertainment-arts-24876609">BBC</a> interview. </p><p>Prowse originally recorded Darth Vader's voice but his rural English accent was deemed unsuitable and replaced by James Earl Jones. </p><p>His co-star, the late Carrie Fisher who played Princess Leia said on The Jonathan Ross Show in 2016: "We called him Death Farmer."</p><p>He went on to feature in the original Star Wars trilogy. Prowse's face doesn't appear in any of the films either because as he was replaced for the unmasking scene, according to <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/11/29/dave-prowse-dead-darth-vader-star-wars/">The Telegraph</a>. </p><p>The 6ft 6in actor also represented England in weightlifting at the Commonwealth Games in the 60s, <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/11/29/dave-prowse-dead-darth-vader-star-wars/">The Telegraph</a> added.</p><p>During this time, Prowse became friends with his competitors, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno, the <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-55117704">BBC</a> reported. </p><p>He was also the personal trainer who helped the late Christoper Reeve prepare for his role as Superman, the <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-55117704">BBC</a> added. </p><p>Mark Hamill played Darth Vader's son Luke Skywalker in the films said on <a href="https://twitter.com/HamillHimself/status/1332978308976295936?s=20">Twitter</a>: "So sad to hear David Prowse has passed. He was a kind man &amp; much more than Darth Vader.</p><p>"Actor-Husband-Father-Member of the Order of the British Empire-3 time British Weightlifting Champion &amp; Safety Icon the Green Cross Code Man.</p><p>"He loved his fans as much as they loved him. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/RIP?src=hashtag_click">#RIP</a>"</p><p>Prowse's acting career spanned 50 years and included Doctor Who and famous Brtish comedy shows of the 1970s and 80s, The Two Ronnies and The Morecambe &amp; Wise Show.</p><p>In 1963, the actor married Norma E. Scammell who remained his wife until his death and the couple had three children together.</p><p>Brought up in Bristol, Prowse spent his later years living in Croydon, south of London, as "a loving husband, father and grandfather," the <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-55117704">BBC</a> reported.</p>

Williams played Lando in the original trilogy's "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi," while Donald Glover played a young Lando in this year's standalone film "Solo: A Star Wars Story."</p><p>Williams' Lando is one of just a few characters from the original trilogy likely to reprise their roles in "Episode IX" along with Chewbacca, R2-D2, and C-3PO. Harrison Ford's Han Solo and Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker both died in "The Force Awakens" and "The Last Jedi," respectively. General Leia Organa survived "The Last Jedi," but actress Carrie Fisher passed away in December 2016.</p><p>Fans are thrilled that Williams is returning, but given that both Han and Luke have died in the new trilogy, some are worried that Lando will be the one to perish this time around.</p><p><strong>People are obviously excited about Williams returning:</strong></p><p><strong>But there are a lot who are worried one of their favorite characters from the original "Star Wars" trilogy may meet his end in "Episode IX."</strong></p><p>There are no plot details for the movie at this time, so we don't even know the extent of Lando's role in the movie.
