According to sources, he sent his resignation to BCCI Secretary <keyword id="210899" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jay-shah" source="Orion">Jay Shah</keyword> who accepted it. Earlier, in a sting operation, the 57-year-old was heard saying that Indian players have their own doctors outside of cricket, who are always available for them. "If they are fit for only 85%... they tell us to let them play but medical science doesn't clear them, this problem comes...the player wants to play, the player never refuses. But Like Bumrah, he was not even able to bow down then what will he do.. One or two such major injuries happen. "Otherwise even at 80%, these people...they are such scoundrels, they will silently go to the corner and take an injection and say that they are fit," Sharma allegedly said during a sting operation. The chief selector also reportedly revealed that there was a huge clash of ego between former Indian skipper Virat Kohli and former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, which eventually led to the right-hander batter's ouster as the captain. "When the player becomes a little big, he feels that he has become very big.. He has become bigger than the board. Then he feels that No one can do anything to him. He can't even bend my hair. Without me, cricket will stop in India. Has it ever happened? Many big ones came and went. Cricket remains the same. So, he tried to hit the President at that time," he was quoted as saying. "He (Virat) said... Sourav Ganguly had never said this to me (about re-considering the captaincy role). So it became a big issue. Either the President lied, or Virat is telling the truth. BCCI chief selector Chetan Sharma resigns, as per sources

Former Indian all-rounder <keyword id="191692" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="chetan-sharma" source="Orion">Chetan Sharma</keyword> is likely to continue as the chairman of the National Selection Committee, as per sources. As per sources, the Board of Control for Cricket in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> (<keyword id="6354756" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bcci" source="Orion">BCCI</keyword>) is ready to give an opportunity to Chetan Sharma once again as chief selector. He could also be representing the North Zone in the selection panel. Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising former India cricketers Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape and <keyword id="115989" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sulakshana-naik" source="Orion">Sulakshana Naik</keyword> is conducting the interview process for picking up a new selection committee at the headquarters of the board in Mumbai. A few people have already been shortlisted and a final announcement will be made soon. Earlier in November, BCCI called for applicants for the new selection committee after India's performance in the ICC T20 World Cup held in Australia, which saw Men in Blue crash out of the semifinals after a ten-wicket loss to England in the semifinal. Last year, India also faced a disappointing final four-stage exit from the Asia Cup in August-September and had also lost the ODI series to Bangladesh in December by 2-1. A release by cricket's apex governing body in the country mentioned the criteria for those who wish to apply for the positions. "Should have played a minimum of 7 Test matches or 30 First Class matches, or 10 ODI and 20 First Class matches," a BCCI release said. "Should have retired from the game at least 5 years ago and no person who has been a member of any Cricket Committee (as defined in the rules and regulations of BCCI) for a total of 5 years shall be eligible to be a member of the Men's Selection Committee," the release added. BCCI on Sunday convened the review meeting of Team India in Mumbai to review performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 where the team badly lost in the semi-final match to England by 10 wickets. The board has shortlisted 20 players for the ICC World Cup 2023 in October to be held in India. The meeting was attended by BCCI President Roger Binny, secretary Jay Shah, Indian captain Rohit Sharma, India head coach Rahul Dravid, Head of Cricket at the NCA <keyword id="6363956" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vvs-laxman" source="Orion">VVS Laxman</keyword> and Chairman of Senior Men Selection Committee Chetan Sharma. U.S. Mobile Carriers Just Had Their Worst Quarter Ever

Young Americans send almost ten times as many texts as Americans over 55.
<a href="http://www.experian.com/marketing-services/2013-digital-marketer-report.html?WT.srch=PR_EMS_DMReport_020813_DMReport%22" target="_blank" title="Experian: The 2013 Digital Marketer Report and Webinar Series">According to Experian</a>, U.S. smartphone owners aged 18 to 24 send 2,022 texts per month on average — 67 texts on a daily basis — and receive another 1,831.
That's nearly double their slightly older peers, smartphone users aged 25 to 34.
That corroborates <a href="http://www.pewinternet.org/%7E/media//Files/Reports/2012/PIP_Teens_Smartphones_and_Texting.pdf" target="_blank" title="Pew:Teens, Smartphones, And Texting">a Pew study</a> from last year, which found that the median number of texts sent by teens was 60 per day.
While it's not particularly surprising that young Americans send more texts than their parents, their <keyword id="25293" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="texting">texting</keyword> behavior actually has an enormous impact on the mobile ecosystem.
Texting is a big business — global carrier messaging revenues were $200 billion in 2011, <a href="http://www.chetansharma.com/Operators_Dilemma_The_Fourth_Wave_Chetan_Sharma_Consulting.pdf" target="_blank" title="Chetan Sharma: Operator's Dilemma">according to Chetan Sharma</a> — but it is increasingly under attack. 
The Experian data likely counts iMessages sent between Apple devices as texts, although they bypass the carrier and aren't technically a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short_Message_Service">SMS</a>.
Another challenge to carriers' text revenue is from apps like <a href="http://www.whatsapp.com/">WhatsApp</a>, <a href="http://www.snapchat.com/">Snapchat</a>, and <a href="http://kik.com/">Kik</a>. These all bypass the carriers and help users connect and communicate quickly through data connections. These apps are most popular among younger smartphone owners. 
Messaging volumes are shooting higher than ever, but the carriers may see less of a cut.

Amid layoffs and a severe cost-cutting, Twitter has closed offices in <keyword id="66" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="delhi" source="Orion">Delhi</keyword> and <keyword id="6358070" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="mumbai" source="Orion">Mumbai</keyword> and asked staff to work from home, according to sources. The micro-blogging platform's Bengaluru office which largely has engineering staff remains operational, the sources said. The Delhi and Mumbai offices shuttered a few weeks ago, with remaining staff now working from home, sources privy to the matter said. However, the number of employees affected by the move could not be immediately ascertained. A mail sent to Twitter on the issue did not elicit a response. The closure of the two offices in key locations in India comes as the platform has initiated a massive cost-cutting drive globally, after billionaire Elon Musk's USD 44 billion takeovers of Twitter, last year. The firm downsized from more than 7,000 people to 2,300 active employees across the globe - the mass-layoffs began with the firing of CEO <keyword id="3115373" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="parag-agrawal" source="Orion">Parag Agrawal</keyword> as well as the <keyword id="53346" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="cfo" source="Orion">CFO</keyword> and many other high-ranking leaders last year. In the retrenchments that followed, Twitter fired the majority of its over 200 employees in India as well. A comprehensive study by Facebook and IDC shows that most users on mobile check their News Feed frequently. Several users copped to checking Facebook from their phone at the movies and while they’re at the gym. Facebook and IDC polled 7,446 iOS and <keyword id="6355645" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="android">Android</keyword> users, who were 18 to 44 years old, finding that 70 percent of them used Facebook’s mobile application (61 percent used it every day). The cellphone users tapping into banking services increased 33 percent during 2012, according to a Federal Reserve survey. Nearly half of those with smart phones accessed a banking app or mobile website in the past year, the survey of 2,600 consumers found. Sharma looked at more than 7 million mobile patents awarded in the U.S. and Europe, the two biggest markets for patents globally at the moment. <a href="http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/03/27/where-in-the-world-are-windows-phones-outselling-iphones/">Windows Phones Outselling iPhones In Emerging Markets</a> (The New York Times) The New York Times asked IDC to qualify the research behind <keyword id="156399" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Windows-phone">Windows Phone</keyword> stats from Frank Shaw, the head of public relations at <keyword id="10387" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Microsoft">Microsoft</keyword>. According to Kevin Restivo, an analyst at IDC, the countries where Windows Phone shipments exceeded those of <keyword id="6354606" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="iPhone">iPhone</keyword> during the fourth quarter were: Argentina, India, Poland, Russia, South Africa and Ukraine. A seventh "country" where Windows Phone shipments beat iPhone is actually a group of smaller countries, including Croatia, that IDC lumps together in a category called "rest of central and eastern Europe." Mr. Restivo provided some context, though, that slightly diminishes the scale of Microsoft’s success in those countries. An impressive number for a platform just months old. The latter is not expected to significantly grow because competition is a little fiercer and fragmented. Indian American filmmaker M. Pictures, with the Oscar-nominated filmmaker switching his allegiance from Universal. The announcement was made on Thursday by Warner Bros. Pictures Group co-chairs and CEOs <keyword id="531770" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="michael-de-luca" source="Orion">Michael De Luca</keyword> and <keyword id="15988669" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="pam-abdy" source="Orion">Pam Abdy</keyword>. News of the pact comes as the director celebrates his latest release 'Knock at the <keyword id="57745" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="cabin" source="Orion">Cabin</keyword>', which marks his seventh No. 1 opening at the box office - he has a No. 1 film in each of the last four decades - and further contributes to his more than $3 billion haul at the global box office, beginning with his breakout hit, 'The Sixth Sense', reports Variety. "Where I write and direct is my home," Shyamalan said in a statement announcing the new deal. "Disney and Universal, where I've made most of my films, will always be home and family to me. M. Night Shyamalan announces next film, signs multi-year deal with Warner Bros

READY, SET, DOWNLOAD: Christmas time means lots of brand new devices being fired up for the first time after consumers unwrap their gifts. For the most part, these new devices are typically not pre-loaded with the average consumer's favorite apps: Netflix, Facebook, Candy Crush, et al. 
But it's also a chance for users to peruse app stores for entirely new apps. More app downloads happen on Christmas Day than any other day in the calendar year. According to data from <a href="http://blog.flurry.com/bid/92719/Christmas-2012-Shatters-More-Smart-Device-and-App-Download-Records" target="_blank">Flurry</a>, app downloads on Christmas Day in 2012 were more than double the average daily downloads between December 1st through the 20th that year. This is a great opportunity for the makers of popular apps like the ones listed above. It could also help an independent app developer gain a huge crop of new users in just one day. 
COST-PER-INSTALL SOARS: In the way that massive retail outlets spend millions to promote for Black Friday, app developers also boost marketing expenses for Christmas Day in hopes that their app gets noticed by the millions of new device owners. But, because all of this spending is put into advertising, the average cost-per-app-install creeps up while average revenue per user remains relatively flat. Meaning, app developers recoup less of the money spent to generate that one app install. 
On the bright side, a download-heavy Christmas Day means a developer will have a sizeable audience to convert into users willing to spend money on in-app purchases, instead of casual users. Christmas Day Is Like Black Friday For App Developers

<keyword id="2573" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="air-india" source="Orion">Air India</keyword> will require more than 6,500 pilots to operate 470 aircraft that are to be supplied by <keyword id="6356166" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="airbus" source="Orion">Airbus</keyword> and <keyword id="6357957" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="boeing" source="Orion">Boeing</keyword> in the coming years, according to industry sources. Seeking to expand its fleet as well as operations, the airline has placed orders for acquiring a total of 840 aircraft that includes an option to buy 370 planes. This is one of the largest aircraft orders by any airline. Currently, Air <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="60" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> has around 1,600 pilots to operate its 113 aircraft fleet and in recent times, there have been instances of ultra-long-haul flights getting cancelled or delayed due to a shortage of crew. The airline's two subsidiaries -- <keyword id="6378232" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="air-india-express" source="Orion">Air India Express</keyword> and <keyword id="1583080" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="airasia-india" source="Orion">AirAsia India</keyword> -- together have around 850 pilots for flying their 54 planes while the joint venture Vistara has more than 600 pilots. The latter has a fleet of 53 aircraft, one of the sources told PTI. Air India, Air India Express, Vistara and AirAsia India together have a little over 3,000 pilots to operate the combined fleet of 220 aircraft. The latest Airbus firm order comprises 210 A320/321 Neo/XLR and 40 A350-900/1000. The Boeing firm order comprises 190 737-Max, 20 787s and 10 777s. "Air India is taking these 40 A350 majorly for its ultra-long-haul routes or flights which last over 16 hours. The airline will require 30 pilots -- 15 commanders and 15 first officers -- per aircraft, which means some 1,200 pilots for A350s alone," the source in the know said. According to the source, 26 pilots are required for one Boeing 777. If the airline inducts 10 such planes, it will require 260 pilots while 20 Boeing 787 will require some 400 pilots considering that each such aircraft needs 20 pilots -- 10 commanders and 10 first officers. Taken together, the induction of 30 wide-body Boeing planes will require a total of 660 pilots, the sources said. On average, each narrow-body plane, whether it is the Airbus A320 family or Boeing 737 Max, requires 12 pilots, implying that 400 such planes in the fleet will require not less than 4,800 pilots for their operations. On Thursday, Air India Chief Commercial Officer Nipun Agarwal in a Linkedin post said "the order comprises 470 firm aircraft, 370 options and purchase rights to be procured from Airbus and Boeing over the next decade". According to Air India's former Commercial Director Pankaj Shrivastava, enough opportunities have to be created for the <keyword id="646408" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="commercial-pilots-licence" source="Orion">Commercial Pilots Licence</keyword> (CPL) holders to get them to type rating. Type ratings are a particular training that makes a pilot qualify to operate a particular type of aircraft. "Air India would definitely have some plan in place. They would not be buying these planes to put them on the ground," he said. These aircraft are not going to be inducted tomorrow but over a period of time. During that period, Shrivastava said that he was confident that Boeing and Airbus along with Air India will be able to create a large enough pool of pilots by having in place the required number of flight simulators and pilots training. Air India earlier this year announced its plans to set up a training academy, which is a new initiative for the <keyword id="6355725" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tata-group" source="Orion">Tata Group</keyword>. Air India will require more than 6,500 pilots for 470 planes

<ul><li>The controversial privacy update on WhatsApp has been rolled out on May 15. </li><li>The Indian government has challenged the rollout of the update in the high court. </li><li>Here’s what happens with those who have not accepted the updated privacy policy.</li></ul>WhatsApp on Monday told the Delhi high court that its new controversial privacy policy has not been deferred and came into effect on May 15th. It said that the deadline for the policy to come into effect has not been extended, but accounts not complying with the updated policy won't be deleted immediately. “We are still trying to persuade consumers but if they don’t accept slowly, slowly these accounts will be deleted. There is no universal deadline for this,” senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the Facebook-owned company, said. However, the Centre, in response said the new privacy policies of the app violates the Indian Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000 and asked the social media platform not to bring in any changes for now. Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Chetan Sharma, appearing for Centre added that the government has written to Facebook’s chief executive <keyword id="6354630" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="mark-zuckerberg">Mark Zuckerberg</keyword> on the issue and a reply is awaited. <h2 style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;">The <keyword id="958801" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-privacy-policy">new privacy policy</keyword> is now in effect from May 15. What will happen now?</h2> If you don’t accept the terms of service This is where things get a bit tricky. <a href="https://faq.whatsapp.com/general/security-and-privacy/what-happens-when-our-terms-and-privacy-policy-updates-take-effect">WhatsApp says</a> your account won't be deleted, and as many of you may have seen, those who haven't accepted the new privacy policy are still able to use the app after 3 days since the new policy has come into effect. Users not complying with the policy haven't lost their current chat history and backup either, But they will be limited to use some of the features. You can still answer video and voice calls, reply to messages in the first few weeks, but you cannot open the chat list because you'll be welcomed with a pop up reminding you of the new terms of service. You won't be able to: <ul><li>set status updates within the app</li><li>forward messages from one chat to other</li><li>manage and use the broadcast list </li><li>create new groups</li><li>quote messages or tag participants in group chat</li><li>send voice messages, stickers and other media within the app</li><li>manually backup chat history</li><li>export your chat history</li><li>use the Click To Chat service</li></ul>If you don't accept the new terms of service for more than a couple of weeks, you won't be able to receive calls and messages, or anything for that matter, as your app will be completely disabled. Note that WhatsApp won't delete your account and chats but you'll only be able to access and use it after accepting the terms. As per <a href="https://wabetainfo.com/what-happens-after-may-15th/">WABetaInfo</a>, WhatsApp might still delete your account (chats, messages, backups) after a certain period (4 months) due to inactivity. If you have accepted the terms of service Many users believe that accepting the new terms and conditions will allow Facebook to gather more of their data, but it's not the case. You can still use the app to chat, call or send voice notes to friends and family while keeping it private just how it used to be. The change, however, is with how you interact with <keyword id="4936066" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="whatsapp-business">WhatsApp business</keyword> accounts. There are two types of business accounts on WhatsApp -- a regular business account and a special business account that uses cloud providers. Chatting with a regular business account is just like how we chat with friends and family but in the case of 'special' business accounts that use cloud providers, there is a possibility of your chat being used to generate targeted advertisements on Facebook. What is being shared is also dependent on the privacy policy of the particular business you are engaging with. As a precautionary measure, you can always ask for their privacy policy by sending a message before you share any information that can be used to produce targeted ads. Some business accounts do have bad privacy practices, so this is where you have to be very careful if you do care about your privacy. These special accounts that use tools to manage and store chat can be recognised by a mark at the top of the conversation. Also, your data (like what you see on the platform) might be shared with Facebook, if you use Facebook Shop. It is an optional feature available for business accounts. So avoiding the use of Facebook Shop will also keep data related to your behavioural pattern safe. Should you accept the terms or not? The bigger picture will bring the argument to an individual choice, but a shorter answer is that it's safe and not a lot will change after accepting. If you read all the details above, your privacy and data aren't hampered unless you don't engage with the business accounts that use cloud providers and the Facebook Shop. WhatsApp’s new privacy policy — here is why you don't have to lose sleep over it

The world was astounded at the way it was done, without a human care and thought of any kindness behind it. There was no exit interview or interaction between the employees and the company and a call or a message was all that apparently one got as an adieu. Reverberating with the unceremonious exits of thousands of Twitter, Amazon, Meta and several other such companies, one was surprised about the dreaded pink slip that was given to all the selectors of the <keyword id="8675" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-cricket-team" source="Orion">Indian cricket team</keyword> by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (<keyword id="6354756" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bcci" source="Orion">BCCI</keyword>) as well. The loss in the semifinal stage of the T20 World Cup was the death knell for the wise men who failed to select the right winning squad for the prestigious tournament. The selectors in the past have been called various names. However, two of India's legendary cricketers, referred to them as 'A bunch of Jokers' and 'Court Jesters and Lame Ducks', which was pretty amusing at that time. Both were proven right. However, the Indian acceptance of 'This is the way it is' needs to inspire a change for the better in the future. One did feel sorry for the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee, which did not receive any written or verbal brickbats. However, they had their photographs splashed in several print and digital media, with the word 'Sacked' prominently displayed. They did select a squad that had all the skills and experience to combine themselves into a forceful and winning unit. The Indian think tank of the coach, captain and the support staff was outsmarted both on and off the field by England. India's loss needed fall guys and the easiest were 'the wise men of Gotham' -- the selectors. The BCCI, interestingly, since then has used the existing selectors to select the sides for India's upcoming series. The post of the selectors is now a well-remunerated one and is a full-time job and it, therefore, requires a professional approach. The most important task is in the selection of the selectors. There are certain criteria that are required to be met as regards the age being under 60 years as well as one should have played seven Test matches or 30 First-class matches etc. However, the most important appointment by the BCCI is the appointment of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). The CAC selects the selectors and, therefore, the three members that represent it should have impeccable credentials. They, one feels, should have played over 25 Test matches and have a thorough knowledge of the game and what the position entails. The BCCI are fortunate that they have Roger Binny as their president, Dilip Vengsarkar and Shubhangi Kulkarni in their Apex Committee, three Indian Test cricketers who would be ideal people to select a very competent CAC. The selectors now are a professional outfit, wherein, the earlier requirement of five zonal representatives should be abolished. Earlier, this was necessary as the Ranji Trophy was played initially in their respective zones and thereafter teams qualified for the knock-out stage. In the present format, the zonal basis makes no sense as teams are now placed in groups from any part of India. The five selectors, similar to selection committees in other cricket-playing countries of the world, need to have individuals with the best credentials and capabilities. They could all be from one state or zone if need be. The vast amount of cricket being played domestically, one feels, each selector needs to have his own team of assistant selectors. The job now entails much more than just watching selective matches but a thorough analysis of players and their performance. India is a vast cricket-playing country and the challenge is for one to ensure that every talented Indian cricketer is identified and spotted on time. The talent-spotting programme, which was introduced under Vengsarkar many years ago, was a huge success. A similar approach should be conceptualised, with talent spotters from respective zones reporting to each of the five selectors. This would ensure a better coverage of unearthing aspiring cricketers from the junior to the senior-most level. At present, the IPL and the Under-19 India performers have become the hotbed for quick and early recognition. This is not the best solution as there are several other cricketers playing in the domestic circuit who have not been chosen in the IPL and have long passed the age of 19. A good example of late bloomers is Suryakumar Yadav. SKY, as he is popularly known, is batting like a man possessed, in limited-overs cricket. He has been a part of domestic cricket for many years and is at present 32 years old. He seems ready to play Test cricket, a format that evaded him till now. The time has come for a radical change on the appointment, scope and deliverables of a national cricket selector at all levels of the game. A common structure should be introduced that covers the cricket associations as well. The pink slips and sacking, one feels, is not the best way forward. A selector is, after all, only the facilitator and not the performer. The irony in this case was the facilitators became the fall guys whereas the ones who needed to perform are sitting unreprimanded. This definitely needs a comprehensive change.
