India’s wearables market shipped 29.5 million devices in Q2 2024. According to a report by the International Data Corporation, the first half of 2024 also reported a decline of 4.7%, with 55.1 million units shipped during the first six months. The decline in shipments includes cautious inventory stocking by the vendors looking to clear existing stock and fewer new launches in the market. <h2><keyword id="20615528" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="smartwatch-shipments" source="keywords">Smartwatch shipments</keyword> decline</h2>The <keyword id="22725792" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="smartwatch-category" source="keywords">smartwatch category</keyword> recorded a decline of 27.4% as shipments declined from 12.77 million devices in Q2 2023 to 9.27 million in Q2 2024. As per the report, innovation exhaustion and existing channel inventory of older models were the key reasons for the decline in shipments. The Smartwatch average selling price (ASP) dropped to $20.6 from $25.6 a year ago due to discounts being offered to clear inventory. The wristband category however continued to grow, recording a 23.4% growth in shipments. India’s wearables market decline for the first time as smartwatch shipments fall

Mumbai, Mar 30 () The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Monday said special clearing operations will be carried out by banks and other eligible financial entities on Tuesday for annual closing of government accounts and for the special measures in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Referring to special measures announced earlier on Saturday, the RBI said taking into account the current unprecedented situation across the country to tackle the Covid 19 situation, various arrangements are put in place. The RBI has divided time slot for transactions of central and state governments; and announced special measures for the current financial year 2019-20. Normal clearing timings as applicable to any working Tuesday shall be followed on March 31, 2020, the RBI said in a notification. Further, to facilitate accounting of all the government transactions for the current financial year (2019-20) by March 31, 2020, it has been decided to conduct a special clearing exclusively for government cheques at all clearing houses across the country on March 31, 2020, RBI said. With regard to CTS (cheque truncation system) grids in Chennai, Mumbai and New Delhi, presentation clearing will be held between 5 am and 5:30 pm, while return clearing will happen between 7 pm and 7:30 pm. Those under Express Cheque Clearing System (ECCS) centres, the presentation clearing is to happen one hour after normal working hours keeping in view operational convenience at local centre and for return clearing, it will happen half an hour/one hour after presentation clearing keeping in view the operational convenience at local centre. "It is mandatory for all banks to participate in the special clearing on March 31, 2020. All member banks of clearing houses are required to keep their inward clearing processing infrastructure open during special clearing hours and maintain sufficient balance in their clearing settlement account to meet settlement obligations arising out of the special clearing," RBI said. It also asked the banks to be prepared to participate in RTGS (real-time gross settlement) on March 31, 2020. All government transactions done by agency banks for the financial year 2019-20 must be accounted for within the same financial year, it said. Under the special clearing window, all agency banks are directed to keep their designated branches open for over-the-counter transactions related to government transactions up to the normal working hours on March 31. "Transactions through National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) will continue up to 2400 hours as hitherto on March 31, 2020," it added. Regarding reporting of central and state government transactions to the RBI, including uploading of GST/ e-receipts luggage files, the reporting window on March 31, 2020, will be extended and kept open till 1200 hours on April 1, 2020. All the scheduled commercial banks, including regional rural banks; urban and state co-operative banks, district central co-operative banks, local area banks, payment banks and small finance banks, would be part of this special clearing session. 	1. Do you get performance-based rewards? In sales jargon, they call it incentive and most of the C-suite guys are also entitled to it. However, most companies prefer to pay a flat amount if they are under a contractual obligation to pay <keyword id="50592" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bonus">bonus</keyword>. Others simply skip it if it is not there in your appointment letter. But there are exceptions as well. 	 In the first company that I joined as an intern, no one was entitled to bonus but a token amount was handed over each year, based on one’s performance. If we got an abysmally low amount or landed up in the ‘no-cheque zone,’ it was time to do some self-scrutiny and act upon it. As the annual <keyword id="538384" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="performance-appraisal">performance appraisal</keyword> was nearly 6 months away (the incentive used to come around Diwali), there was plenty of time to move up the performance scale or to look around, find a more suitable position and quit without feeling too hurt. 
	 
	 
	 
	2. Can you play the <keyword id="149794" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="strategist">strategist</keyword>? Well, we don’t mean you are going to do the CEO-level stuff. But do you have the freedom to ideate and brainstorm every now and then? Will the company top brass (or at least your own <keyword id="553771" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="line-manager">line manager</keyword>) have the time and patience to listen to you? Do they acknowledge the value of your ideas and try to get them implemented? Taking an active interest in your company’s well being is a smart move that will take you far.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra on Thursday took note of the submissions of lawyer Anas Tanwir on the issue. The bench said the matter will be listed on Friday. The plea said many candidates have been allocated cities which are highly inconvenient for them to reach. It said the test cities were allotted on July 31 and the specific centres will be declared on August 8. While the allocation of the centres was done to curb malpractices, the plea said due to the paucity of time, it is difficult for the candidates to make arrangements for travel to specific cities. "Issue a writ in the nature of Mandamus ...the Respondents (<keyword id="19904021" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Testing-Agency" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="National Testing Agency" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="National Testing Agency">National Testing Agency</keyword>) to reschedule the NEET-PG 2024 examination," stated the plea filed by Vishal Soren. Supreme Court to hear plea seeking postponement of NEET-PG on Friday

The energy supply order has been secured by wholly-owned subsidiary JSW Neo Energy Limited, JSW Energy said, adding that the company received the letter of award following a tariff-based competitive bidding process. Bids were invited for supply of 630 MW of firm and dispatchable power from an inter state transmission system or ISTS-connected renewable energy project SECI-FDRE-IV, JSW Energy said in an exchange filing. With the latest <keyword id="19895601" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="contract" source="keywords">contract</keyword>, the company's total locked-in generation capacity has increased to 16.4 GW, which includes a hybrid capacity of 2.3 GW, including FDRE (firm and dispatchable renewable energy). Briefing media after the announcement of bi-monthly monetary policy review, Das said, "regulatory requirements in top-up housing loans are not being followed by certain entities and it is not a system-level problem." Such cases are being dealt at the supervisory level bilaterally, he said. Banks and <keyword id="19938300" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NBFCs" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="NBFCs" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="NBFCs">NBFCs</keyword> have also been offering top-ups on other collateralised loans like gold loans. "Such practices may lead to loaned funds being deployed in unproductive segments or for speculative purposes. Banks and NBFCs would, therefore, be well-advised to review such practices and take remedial action," he said. Therefore, he said, banks should adhere to regulatory prescriptions relating to loan-to-value (LTV) ratio, risk weights and monitoring of end use of funds with regard to top-ups. Das further said that the divergence between loan and deposit growth may create asset liability mismatch or <keyword id="22712997" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="liquidity-management-issue" source="keywords">liquidity management issue</keyword>. It may potentially expose the banking system to structural liquidity issues, he said. He urged banks to mobilise deposits through innovative products and services by leveraging their vast branch network. On inflation, Das said, it is moderating but the pace of disinflation is uneven and slow. Pinning hopes on monsoon, which is 7 per cent higher than long-term average so far, the Governor said, it will have a good impact on Kharif output as well as Rabi because of improvement in moisture content in the soil. Captain Rohit Sharma acknowledged that while the IPL is a significant platform, its prominence has not overshadowed the value of India's domestic cricket structure. "Our goal has always been to ensure that players who are available participate in the Ranji Trophy. Domestic cricket forms the backbone of our international cricket. Many of the players currently representing the country have risen through the ranks by playing domestic cricket, making it crucial for everyone. We aim to keep it competitive," he said. India's performance against Sri Lanka saw the team struggle notably against spin, leading to batting collapse, in all three games in the post-match press conference, Rohit addressed the issue and reiterated the importance of domestic tournaments in preparing players for international challenges. "When selecting players for Test and ODI cricket, much of the discussion revolves around who is performing well in the Ranji Trophy, the one-day format and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy," he explained. While the IPL has undoubtedly contributed to the rise of several cricketing stars, it has also sparked debate about its impact on Indian cricket. However, Rohit clarified that both the IPL and domestic tournaments play vital roles. "The IPL has its own stature and presents different challenges, but it is all part of Indian cricket, and players excelling in any of these tournaments will eventually be recognized," he noted. Rohit also addressed India's poor batting display in the series particularly against the Sri Lankan spinners. He dismissed the notion that playing on turning tracks was an acceptable excuse for their failures. "Playing spin on slow pitches should not be an excuse. We all play on these kind of surfaces. It is about having a clear game plan and executing it well," Sharma said. Rohit remained the leading run-getter in the three-match ODI series, with 157 runs at an average of 52.33 and a strike rate of 141.4. No other batter from either side totalled 100 runs in the series. Paris Olympics: Aman Sehrawat storms into semi-finals with technical superiority win in men's 57kg event

Security agencies will be deploying artificial intelligence-based security systems with enhanced <keyword id="22713904" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="surveillance-features" source="keywords">surveillance features</keyword> and automated crowd estimation facilities at and around <keyword id="20283480" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Red-Fort" source="keywords">Red Fort</keyword> on the upcoming Independence Day, sources said. A document accessed by the reveals that CCTVs having video analytics features will be deployed at important locations at the venue. The intelligence video surveillance system will have features like a vehicle number plate recognition system, face detection, people movement counting, tripwire, audio detection, intrusion, defocus, and abandoned or missing objects. "We will also be using AI-armed cameras to count the entry and exit of people inside the premises. The estimation of the crowd will be done through AI," an official added. The cameras, said the official, will have the capability of detecting abandoned baggage in public places. Intrusion detection features will be the security of high risk. Different zone-based alarms can be set as per priority and sensitivity of each zone. The advanced FRS facility will be in recognition of faces on live cameras as well as on recorded videos. Detect any matches with faces on the "Watch List" database and provide alerts to the control room. Detecting multiple faces from group images and searching for similar faces from a single camera or across multiple cameras. An enrolled person can be searched by names or similar faces and also search via. unknown faces using a single image or group photo. Divulging further details on the new changes, a senior government official informed that they have been using a <keyword id="20903661" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="facial-recognition-system" source="keywords">facial recognition system</keyword> for the past several years but this year they will be deploying Number Plate Recognition (NPR) that will have vehicle plate detection based on real-time 24x7 video processing. It will immediately video record and snapshot each vehicle or violated vehicle. It will be integrated with multiple cameras or sensors for driver image capture. Delhi police will be deploying more than 700 CCTVs and more than 150 cameras having video analytics features. More than 10,000 security personnel, including Delhi police and paramilitary jawans, will be deployed in and around the Red Fort and other crucial locations in central and north Delhi. A team of central intelligence agencies and all concerned security agencies visited the Red Fort and held a security review meeting recently for the Independence Day event. At the review meeting, held in the backdrop of the attack on former US president Donald Trump during a public meeting, additional arrangements would be needed to maintain a stricter vigil at the high-security event, reliable sources claimed. Security forces to deploy AI-based security systems at Red Fort on Independence Day

The government has waived the requirement for clinical trials of certain categories of drugs in <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword> if they are approved in the <keyword id="19899478" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="US" source="keywords">US</keyword>, the <keyword id="19922618" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="UK" source="keywords">UK</keyword>, Japan, Australia, Canada and the European Union. The waiver only covers five categories -- orphan drugs for rare diseases, gene and cellular therapy products, <keyword id="22559447" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-drugs" source="keywords">new drugs</keyword> used in pandemic situations, new drugs used for special defence purposes and new drugs having significant therapeutic advances over the current standard care. This waiver would ensure expeditious availability of the latest medicines for treating diseases like cancers, rare diseases like Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMA), and autoimmune conditions in India. "As per Rule 101 of New Drugs and Clinical Trials Rules, 2019, the Central Licensing Authority, with the approval of the Central Government, may specify, by an order, the name of the countries, from time to time, for considering waiver of local clinical trial for approval of new drugs under Chapter X and for grant of permission for conduct of clinical trial under Chapter V of the said rules," the Drugs Controller General of India (<keyword id="20559042" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="DGCI" source="keywords">DGCI</keyword>) said in an order issued on August 7. "In exercise of the powers conferred under Rule 101 of the said rules with the approval of the Central Government, the countries namely USA, UK, Japan, Australia, Canada and EU are hereby specified for following categories of new drugs," it said. Presently, several medicines already approved by other regulatory authorities in the US, the UK and the EU are not immediately available for Indian patients because of certain regulatory requirements under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and rules made thereunder. These include the requirement of conducting a local clinical trial and generating safety and efficacy data before marketing authorisation in India, an official explained. However, Rule 101 of the New Drugs and Clinical Trials, 2019, allows the DCGI to specify certain countries for considering waiver of local clinical trials for approval of new drugs. "The advantages of operationalising this rule are that the latest medicines to treat diseases like cancers, rare diseases like SMA and DMA, and autoimmune conditions will become available expeditiously in India. "Presently, the delay in launching a new or novel medicine in India is anywhere between 5-20 years when compared to western markets. With the waiver of Rule 101, the scope of parallel launches of medicines in India along with the West will be opened up," the official explained. Besides, there will be a considerable reduction in the cost of various advanced medicines. Also, there will be a substantial reduction in the public procurement costs of the central and state governments under various schemes like the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) and Ayushman Bharat. Another advantage is that the resources which would have gone into approving the Indian clinical trials could now be utilised productively elsewhere, the official said. The costs of conducting local clinical trials will be reduced for pharmaceutical firms, therefore passing on these savings to patients. This is especially true for cases of rare diseases where firms have logistical difficulties in finding participants. The change will promote further research in these areas as there will be access to patient data in the Indian context much earlier, ultimately promoting indigenous innovation and shift from volume to value, the government's mission for the pharmaceutical industry, the official said.
