Chemplast Sanmar IPO opens today: Check issue price, allotment dates and key details here

The shares of Chemplast Sanmar were trading at ₹527.25, lower by 2.87% at 10.05 a.m., on August 24. The grey market had indicated a flat listing for shares of Chemplast Sanmar. The IPO ⁠— open between August 10 and August 12 ⁠— received tepid response from investors. It was subscribed 2.17 times on the last day of the bidding. However, analysts at Angel Broking had recommended avoiding the stock if it falls below the issue price. “We expect a flat opening for the stock...We had given a NEUTRAL rating to the IPO given our concerns due to high debt on books and negative net worth despite having a positive outlook on the chemicals. We would recommend to avoid buying into the stock in case it falls below the issue price post listing given our concerns,” said Jyoti Roy, deputy vice president, equity strategist at Angel Broking. IPOs are taking away too much liquidity from the market. In the last week, four IPOs which came in took away ₹16,800 crore of liquidity, said Jyoti Roy, deputy vice president, equity Strategist at <keyword id="103837" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="angel-broking" source="Orion">Angel Broking</keyword>. “IPOs will probably have to wait for some time for market sentiment to improve. Now IPOs need to ensure they do not crowd the market at one time because that will lead to liquidity crunch. Investors will become more choosy after the scenario,” he added. ICICI Securities also says that there is potential for these stocks ahead. “Consensus earnings growth of Nifty small cap 100 and Nifty midcap 100 index over FY23E to FY25E may exceed Nifty50 earnings growth, which could support their valuations,” said the brokerage firm in a report. Small and micro caps have a relatively higher ‘margin of safety’, the report says. Mutual funds &amp; broader markets The investment opportunity in the broader markets has been validated through increasing mutual fund investments in midcap and smallcap funds in the last three quarters. The net inflows in midcap and smallcap funds have been higher than large cap funds, as per Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) data. In the last three quarters, while the smallcap funds saw net inflows of ₹15,172 crore and midcap funds had inflows of ₹14,632 crore, large-cap funds witnessed inflows worth less than half of the two at ₹6,392 crore. AMFI data shows that since October 2021, smallcap schemes witnessed continuous inflows hovering around ₹1,600 crore. In January 2023, the inflows into smallcaps was at a multi-month high of ₹2,300 crore and that too without any new fund offers (NFOs). “The higher growth expectations going ahead (FY23E to FY25E) for Nifty small cap 100 index (22% CAGR) and Nifty midcap 100 index (23% CAGR – ex Vodafone) is attributable to the 'normalisation of profit within financials, industrials, discretionary consumption and commodities,” said the ICICI Securities report. However, the report stated that midcaps have not yet reached the extreme optimism seen during 2017-18 where they traded at a premium to large caps. Recently, foreign portfolio investment (FPI) holdings in smallcap stocks have increased gradually to nearly 13% during December 2022 from 12% in June 2022. However, FPI holdings in the category have been on a downhill since the peak of 2018 when they held close to 17%. Midcaps, on the other hand, haven’t seen any major erosion in FPI holdings since the peak of 2018 and have oscillated in the 14-16% range, said the report. With the IPO proceeds, the Gujarat-based specialty chemicals company will pay off its debt worth ₹140 crore and become debt free, Naresh Patel, chief managing director of Ami Organics, said in an interview with Business Insider. The company is looking to raise ₹200 crore through fresh issue of shares and 60.59 lakh shares through offer for sale by promoters. Overall, the company is aiming to raise ₹570 crore on the upper price band of ₹603 to ₹610 per share. In the last few months, three specialty chemicals companies -- Clean Science and Technology, Tatva Chintan Pharma Chem and Chemplast Sanmar hit the market. Except for Chemplast Sanmar, the other two made a strong listing on the exchanges. Ami Organics is a research and development driven manufacturer of speciality chemicals. The company manufactures different types of advanced pharmaceutical intermediates and active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) for new chemical entities, and material for agrochemicals and fine chemicals. The company is also working on cutting down raw material dependence on supplying countries like China. It imported 19.39% of total raw material purchase from China in FY21 as compared to 21.85% in FY20 and 22.11% in FY19. “We have been strategically working on cutting down raw material dependence on one single country like China. Altogether, the company delivered 83% returns in two trading sessions, meaning investors who held onto the stock till September 15 have made ₹12,288 profit in just two days. Shares of the Gujarat-based company, which debuted at ₹910 per share -- 50% above its issue price of ₹610 -- crossed the ₹1000-mark on the second day of listing. The market capitalisation of the company stood at ₹4,086 crore as on September 15. Most analysts had expected a strong debut for the initial public offering (IPO) betting on the growth prospects in the speciality chemical industry. Recently listed specialty chemical IPOs -- Clean Science and Technology and Tatva Chintan Pharma received a good response while Chemplast Sanmar got a dull one. On September 15, shares of Ami Organics were 20% higher at ₹1,122 per share. So, should investors hold onto the stocks or sell and book profits? Most analysts are suggesting to stay for a long term in the stock. Analysts at Motilal Oswal Securities <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/markets/ami-organics-surges-20-after-strong-debut-up-84-against-issue-price-121091500326_1.html">reportedly </a>said that, “We like Ami Organics given its wide product portfolio in pharma intermediates (PIs), diversification efforts into other specialty chemical space, strong clients’ relation across geographies and robust financials. It is well placed to tap opportunity in the fast growing specialty chemical market by leveraging its strong R&amp;D and expanding product portfolio.” Prashanth Tapse, vice president of research at Mehta Equities <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/markets/ami-organics-share-crosses-rs-1000-mark-spikes-84-amid-strong-buying-demand-in-2-days-7469031.html">reportedly</a> advised investors to hold on to the stock considering long term play. “Being in [a] high-growth high-margin therapeutic segment and promising outlook in light of the “China Plus One” strategy, Ami Organics is well placed to tap the sectoral growth with low competition and high entry barriers due to complex business nature,” said Tapse. China Plus One is the business strategy to avoid investing only in China and diversify business into other countries. Gaurav Garg, head of research at CapitalVia Global Research also reportedly advised to hold the stock for a long term. "The company has been consistently growing revenue from operations and net profit after tax from FY19 to FY21 and around 50% of revenue comes from exports," he reasoned. The strong traction in the pharma active pharmaceuticals ingredients (API) business and focus on research &amp; development (R&amp;D) and launching on new molecules will drive Ami Organics’ growth going forward, said Arijit Malakar, head of research (Retail) at Ashika Stock Broking.
