Chenn<keyword id="6355999" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ai" source="Orion">ai</keyword>, Global technology company Zoho's CEO and co-founder Sridhar Vembu on Monday expressed his concerns on the potential impact of artificial intelligence (AI) regarding the future workforce, saying that AI poses a serious threat to several programming jobs. Referring to the conversational AI platforms like ChatGPT and others, Vembu said that he has been saying internally for the past 4-5 years that "ChatGPT, GPT4, and other AI being created today will first affect the jobs of many programmers". Although there are positive uses of AI, he believes the complexity and depth of this technology are a concern. Vembu recently tweeted from his account, mentioning the economic consequences AI can bring. "I won't focus on the technology itself but on the economic consequences. First of all, if AI was to eliminate all jobs, it means AI is able to produce all the goods and services we need without human labour," he posted. "Where will the jobs come from? In a world where AI made goods and services free, the better question is 'what will humans do?," he noted during a press interaction here. Referring to a global initiative taken by tech billionaire Elon Musk and other top entrepreneurs and researchers against stopping AI experiments for at least six months, the Zoho CEO said he and two other industry leaders had also written an open letter to the central government, calling for an AI policy in the country. In total, the media and entertainment company will sack 7,000 employees in three rounds, its CEO Bob Iger has announced. The job cuts will reportedly affect Disney's media and distribution segment along with ESPN and the parks and resorts division, according to CNBC. "This week, we begin notifying employees whose positions are impacted by the company's workforce reductions," Iger wrote in the memo. "A second, larger round of notifications will happen in April with several thousand more staff reductions, and we expect to commence the final round of notifications before the beginning of the summer to reach our 7,000-job target," he added. In February, Iger had announced to lay off 7,000 employees as Disney looks to save billions of dollars by restructuring the company, cutting content, and trimming payroll. "For our employees who aren't impacted, I want to acknowledge that there will no doubt be challenges ahead as we continue building the structures and functions that will enable us to be successful moving forward. I ask for your continued understanding and collaboration during this time," Iger elaborated in his memo. Disney expects to deliver approximately $3 billion in savings over the next few years, excluding sports. Warner Bros. Discovery and other legacy media firms have also reduced several thousand jobs to cut costs. "Unfortunately, we've not been able to secure the funding to provide a clear path for this company. We have no choice but to implement immediate and extremely painful changes," Hart told the employees. In a US securities filing, the company announced a workforce reduction of approximately 675 employees, constituting approximately 85 per cent of the company's workforce "in order to reduce expenses in light of the Company's inability to secure meaningful funding". Those impacted are located in all areas of the company. The company estimated that the move will incur aggregate charges of approximately $15 million, consisting primarily of $8.8 million in severance payments and employee benefits costs and $6.5 million in other costs primarily related to outplacement services and WARN Act exposure. "The company expects to recognise the majority of these charges in the first quarter of 2023. It expects that the reduction in force will be substantially complete by April 3, 2023," the filing read. Branson founded Virgin Orbit in 2017 after spinning off from its sister company, <keyword id="130495" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="virgin-galactic" source="Orion">Virgin Galactic</keyword>. Virgin Orbit has been developing an air-launched rocket, dubbed LauncherOne, for hauling small satellites to orbit. In January, its rocket carrying satellites into space suffered an "anomaly", abruptly ending the first foray into orbital launch from the UK territory. An investigation into that failed mission "is nearly complete and our next production rocket with the needed modification incorporated is in final stages of integration and test", a Virgin Orbit spokesperson said in a March 15 statement.
