The GSLV Mark 3 (LVM 3) heavy-lift launch vehicle, which will release the moon <keyword id="1609912" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lander" source="Orion">lander</keyword> and rover into space, will lift off from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh's Sriharikota at 2.30 pm. The countdown for the launch began on Thursday at 14:35:17 IST, ahead of the lift-off on Friday. It weighs around 3,900 kilograms. The ISRO's third lunar exploration mission is equipped with eight payloads. The experiments to be carried out by Chandrayan 3 include the Vikram lander (named after Space scientist Vikram Sarabhai) which will carry 4 instruments, Pragyan (Saanskrit for Wisdom) rover will carry two instruments and Propulsion Module or the Orbiter will carry one experiment. Vikram lander's experiments include Chandra's Surface Thermophysical Experiment (ChaSTE) to measure surface thermal properties, Instrument for Lunar Seismic Activity (ILSA) to measure seismicity around the landing site, Radio Anatomy of Moon Bound Hypersensitive ionosphere and Atmosphere (RAMBHA) to study the gas and plasma environment, and Passive laser retroreflector array provided by NASA for lunar ranging studies. While the Pragyan (Saanskrit for Wisdom) rover will carry two instruments to study the surface elemental composition - Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer (APXS) that will help determine the elemental composition of the lunar soil and rocks around the landing site and Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscope (LIBS) which will conduct qualitative and quantitative elemental analysis in order to infer the chemical and mineralogical composition of the lunar surface. The Propulsion Module or the Orbiter will carry Spectropolarimetry of Habitable Planet Earth (SHAPE) to study Earth's spectral and polarimetric measurements from lunar orbit. This helps scientists analyse the reflected light from exoplanets and determine whether they would qualify for habitability. The journey from Earth to the moon for the spacecraft is estimated to take about a month and the landing is expected on August 23. Upon landing, it will operate for one lunar day, which is approximately 14 Earth days. One day on the Moon is equal to 14 days on Earth. K Sivan, former director of ISRO, told that the success of mission Chandrayan-3 will give a morale boost to programmes like Gaganyan, India's first manned space mission. Chandrayaan-3's development phase commenced in January 2020 with the launch planned sometime in 2021, but the Covid-19 pandemic brought an unforeseen delay to the mission's progress. The major discovery of the Chandrayaan-1 mission, launched in 2008, was the detection of water (H2O) and hydroxyl (OH) on the lunar surface. Data mined by the rover then also revealed their enhanced abundance towards the polar region. The primary science objective of the mission was to prepare a three-dimensional atlas of both the near and far sides of the Moon and to conduct chemical and mineralogical mapping of the entire lunar surface with high spatial resolution, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre under ISRO had said. As of <a href="https://www.faa.gov/unruly">July 12</a>, crews have dealt with 1,634 unruly passenger reports this year.That persistence unruliness and aggression have led some flight attendants to feel burnt out, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/flight-attendants-are-burned-out-as-passenger-violence-soars-2021-6">Insider's Allana Akhtar reported</a>. The countdown for the launch of the mission began on Thursday at 14:35:17 IST ahead of take-off on Friday from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. The spacecraft will be launched on a GSLV Mark 3 (LVM 3) heavy-lift launch vehicle. This will be Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) follow-up attempt after the Chandrayaan-2 mission faced challenges during its soft landing in 2019. The 'Launch Rehearsal' simulating the entire launch preparation and process has been concluded by the ISRO. A day ahead of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, a team of ISRO scientists on Thursday visited and offered prayers at Tirupathi Venkatachalapathy Temple in Andhra Pradesh with a miniature model of Chandrayaan-3. If all goes well, Chandrayaan-3 will be the first spacecraft to land on Moon's South Pole, demonstrating India's technical prowess and bold spacefaring ambitions. Chandrayaan-3 mission will demonstrate a safe and soft landing on the lunar surface, rover roving on the moon and conducting in-situ scientific experiments. ISRO invited citizens to witness the launch of the much-awaited Chandrayaan-3 from the viewing gallery at Sriharikota. During the Chandrayaan-2 mission, ISRO lost contact with the lander when it was just a notch away from the moon's surface. The journey from Earth to the moon for the to-be-launched spacecraft is estimated to take around a month and the landing is expected on August 23. Upon landing, it will operate for one lunar day, which is approximately 14 Earth days. One day on Moon is equal to 14 days on Earth. K Sivan, former director of ISRO, told that the success of mission Chandrayan-3 will give a morale boost to programs like Gaganyan. "We understood what went wrong with Chandrayan-2 when we could not land on the moon's surface, we recreated the failure modes and we ensured that this time we have success. The challenge is the same as Chandrayan-2, same environment for landing. This time we hope that we have done enough based on the lesson of Chandrayan-2 that gives us more confidence. In space there are always unknown unknowns...hope that all issues are addressed and that we emerge with success," he said. "We are getting tech landing on a celestial body. By landing successfully, we will acquire landing technology and it will be good for future generations. A number of scientific experiments are planned and scientists will have more knowledge of the moon's geology and the earth's origin," he added. Mylswamy Annadurai, Mission Director of Chandrayaan-1, said Chandrayaan-3 is a very important mission. "We have shown that we can orbit, but we could not do a soft landing, By doing so this time we can show that Chandrayan-1 was not an isolated success. Internationally, the world is looking back to the moon, the real seeding for that came from Chandrayaan-1. So we need to make this mission successful," he told ANI. "Hard lessons were learnt from Chandrayaan 1 and 2. At every step, we are supposed to have a plan B. There were some setbacks in Chandrayaan- 2. This time we are back on track. We are clear on what we want to do and it will ensure we can softly land on the surface of the moon. Chandrayaan-3's development phase commenced in January 2020 with plans to launch it somewhere in 2021, but the COVID-19 pandemic caused delays in the development process. The major discovery of the Chandrayaan-1 mission, launched in 2008, is the detection of water (H2O) and hydroxyl (OH) on the lunar surface. Data also revealed their enhanced abundance towards the polar region. The primary science objective of the mission was to prepare a three-dimensional atlas of both the near and far sides of the Moon and to conduct chemical and mineralogical mapping of the entire lunar surface with high spatial resolution, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre under ISRO had said. Moon serves as a repository of earth's past and a successful lunar mission by India will help in enhancing life on Earth and prepare to explore the rest of the solar system - and beyond. <ul class="summary-list"><li>A pair of student-loan borrowers filed a lawsuit against servicer MOHELA.</li><li>They accused the company of delaying their PSLF applications, forcing them to make extra payments.</li></ul>A major student-loan company just got hit with a lawsuit over accusations it delayed relief through a targeted loan forgiveness program.On December 11, law firm Sauder Schelkopf filed a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.sauderschelkopf.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/MOHELA-FILE-STAMPED-COMPLAINT.pdf">class-action lawsuit</a> on behalf of two student-loan borrowers — Jennifer Joy of Colorado and Misty Thomas of Florida — against servicer MOHELA, accusing the company of "failure to timely process and render decisions" for borrowers enrolled in the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, according to the legal filing.The suit defines three classes to be considered for relief: a nationwide class that includes all borrowers who have submitted PSLF forms to MOHELA, along with separate classes for Colorado and Florida borrowers who have done the same.PSLF is intended to forgive student debt for government and nonprofit workers after ten years of qualifying payments. However, the lawsuit said that some borrowers' applications have been left waiting for years, and when they call MOHELA to get an update on their loan status, they are left for hours on hold with customer service."Our clients, like the many other borrowers who contacted us, worked in public service jobs and relied on the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program," Joseph Kenney, a partner at Sauder Schelkopf, said in a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.sauderschelkopf.com/investigations/mohela-public-service-loan-forgiveness-pslf-class-action-lawsuit-investigation/">statement</a>."The PSLF was designed to encourage careers in public service by providing for loan forgiveness after ten years," he continued. As a result, once the over three-year pause on federal payments ended in October, they both had to make payments on loans that might have qualified for relief.The case cited a series of letters Democratic lawmakers have sent to MOHELA over the past few years requesting information on how the company was preparing borrowers to resume payments, expressing concern with the strained customer service borrowers were facing as they attempted to get answers on PSLF.For example, a September letter from a group of Democrats including Sens. "The Administration assured public service workers across the country that the PSLF program would be fixed, yet MOHELA appears to be continuing a legacy of lost paperwork, long call wait times, and processing errors and delays."With the plaintiffs residing in Colorado and Florida, the lawsuit accused MOHELA of violating each of the states' consumer protection laws, along with the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act on behalf of the nationwide class. The plaintiffs are seeking monetary relief, along with an order that requires MOHELA to process PSLF applications in a timely manner.The Education Department has previously cracked down on MOHELA's failure to properly assist borrowers. In October, it withheld $7 million in pay to MOHELA over <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/student-loan-company-mohela-late-statements-borrowers-biden-withholding-pay-2023-10">failure to send on-time billing statements to 2.5 million borrowers</a>, and in a broader framework for accountability over servicers, the department said it will <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/student-loan-borrowers-bad-customer-service-education-department-oversight-repayment-2023-11">continue to take similar actions when it finds a servicer does not meet its contractual obligations</a>.Additionally, in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/can-student-loan-borrowers-file-lawsuit-servicer-mohela-fsa-memo-2023-11">an internal Federal Student Aid memo</a>, the agency said "borrowers who were financially harmed due to servicing errors would seek a legal remedy against their servicers and/or the Department."
