Amaravati (<keyword id="37102" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="andhra-pradesh" source="Orion">Andhra Pradesh</keyword>) [India], September 14 (ANI): Amid protests over the arrest of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief <keyword id="70808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="n-chandrababu-naidu" source="Orion">N Chandrababu Naidu</keyword>, the Additional DG of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Wednesday said the money trail is "very clearly seen" adding that it is a very clear case of government funds transferred and the project of purpose never happened. "In this case, a government corporation was formed and it was exclusively formed for this purpose of skill development and the proposal was moved by some private individuals...The money trail is very clearly seen," Additional DG of CID Sanjay told ANI. Further, DIG Sanjay said, "You see the role of the ED also in this when they moved in and arrested a few people. So this is a very clear case of government money being transferred and the project itself never happened... How the money went into shell companies and all, is again part of the investigation. So further investigation will reveal the exact end-to-end tie-ups." <keyword id="6354350" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="chandrababu-naidu" source="Orion">Chandrababu Naidu</keyword> was sent to judicial custody on Sunday for 14 days, till September 23, by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court in Vijayawada in connection with an alleged Skill Development Corporation scam. Earlier, TDP workers held a protest on Monday in Chittoor against the arrest and judicial custody of the TDP chief in the alleged skill development case. On Monday State Police also tried to detain several party leaders including TDP MLC Kancherla Srikanth in Chittoor district as a preventive action to maintain law and order in the state. Protests were also held in Tirupati and West Godavari districts against the arrest and judicial custody of Chandrababu <keyword id="6362898" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="naidu" source="Orion">Naidu</keyword>. The case in which Naidu is arrested pertains to the establishment of clusters of Centers of Excellence (CoEs) in the state of Andhra Pradesh, with a total estimated project value of Rs 3300 crore, as per the officials. The agency officials also claimed that the alleged fraud has caused a huge loss to the state government in excess of Rs 300 crore. As per the CID, the investigation has revealed serious irregularities such as before any expenditure by private entities, the then state government provided an advance of Rs 371 crores, representing the entire 10 per cent commitment by the government. Most of the money advanced by the government was diverted to shell companies through fake invoices, with no actual delivery or sale of the items mentioned in the invoices, CID officials said. In its remand report, the CID has said that according to the investigation so far, the total amount spent by private entities on six skill development clusters is sourced exclusively from funds advanced by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Andhra Pradesh Skill Development Centre, totalling Rs 371 crore.

Talking to mediapersons ahead of police taking him into custody, Naidu said, I did not commit any malpractice or corruption. CID arrested me without any proper information and I asked them to show the evidence but they refused to show and attached my name to the FIR without my role." The TDP chief was taken into custody by the Andhra Pradesh Criminal Investigation Department (CID), in connection with alleged in the skill development scam case. A First Information Report (FIR) in the case was lodged in 2021. As police arrived early this morning to arrest the TDP Chief, they faced resistance from TDP cadres. A minor scuffle also broke out between officials and Naidu's supporters during his arrest. Naidu has been named as accused number 1 in the case, which involves over Rs 250 crore. Details of the FIR and other details were provided to Naidu's advocates, who also demanded prima facie evidence, pointing out that the former chief minister's name was not mentioned in the FIR report. The former Andhra Chief Minister has been charged under sections for criminal conspiracy, cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property. "It is to inform you that you have been arrested under CrPc's Sections 120(8), 166, 167, 418, 420, 465, 468, 471, 409, 201, 109 rw 34 and 37 IPC and other sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988," the notice issued under Section 50 (1) (2) of Criminal Procedure Code. According to details, Naidu was to be shifted to Nandyal Hospital for a medical examination. However, his medical check-up was conducted at a camp after he refused to go to the hospital. Naidu was taken to Vijayawada from Nandyal through the road. Earlier, there were reports that police would take him on the flight. The State Police also detained several party leaders including Naidu's son Nara Lokesh in East Godavari district as a preventive action to maintain the law and order situation in the state. (ANI)

In his plea, Naidu contended that the Andhra Pradesh High Court had rejected his petition by ignoring his pleading that under Section 17A of the PC Act, which came into force on July 26, 2018, no FIR against a public servant could be registered without prior sanction of the appropriate authority. TDP leaders stage hunger strike In Delhi against arrest of Chandrababu Naidu

If a man is judged by how he treats his enemies, then Andhra Chief Minister Jagan Reddy has a lot to answer for. His opposition leader <keyword id="6354350" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chandrababu-Naidu">Chandrababu Naidu</keyword> and his son are among many leaders of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) placed under house arrest by his government. The current detention aims to prevent a protest rally. But it seems more like the latest crescendo in a political rivalry that spans at least two generations. Naidu alleges that eight of his party members were killed, and many more have been assaulted by the ruling YSR Congress party, led by debutante chief minister Jagan Reddy. “We, as a state, are at the worst possible phase in terms of safety for people. Is there a mechanism to protect people in Andhra? Even as YSRCP kickstarted a welfare center for government employees, another attack took place on our party members in Anantapuram,” Naidu said in a tweet in Telugu on September 6. Reddy dethrones Naidu from his lair In the 100 days that Reddy has ruled the state, a myriad of changes have come in. Jagan cited environmental laws to raze a conference hall in the state capital Amaravati, called Praja Vedika. Though it’s a government property, it was built and extensively used by Naidu and could be termed as his ‘lair’. Reddy found another building which was 'too close to the banks of Krishna river’. This happens to be a palatial home rented by Naidu. His security detail was also rolled back by the state government. Stripped off his power and pride, Naidu decided it was time to go back to the grassroots and accumulate some popular support via a protest march on foot, padyatra. But Reddy wouldn't have any of it. The current chief minister knows that padayatras built glorious political careers--starting from former CM and founder of TDP, N T Rama Rao, and Reddy’s own father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy who was also a former CM, and Jagan himself. Painting his state in his colours Jagan Reddy has been a mystery to many people who know him, and do not. The five feet five inches tall 46-year-old appears to be soft spoken. Yet, he launched a phased and vicious attack on his bête noire, Naidu, without dreading public opinion. Some political pundits even say that Reddy wants to<a href="https://www.firstpost.com/india/arbitrary-decisions-by-ys-jagan-mohan-reddy-in-zeal-to-wipe-out-chandrababu-naidus-legacy-alarm-domestic-foreign-investors-in-andhra-pradesh-7172001.html"> wipe the state</a> clean of Naidu and his party. At the same time, he is literally painting the state in his colours. He has painted the state’s gram panchayats in the white, blue and green colours of his party flag. His deceased father’s photo are displayed prominently. Not all changes heralded by Reddy are cosmetic. He also cancelled the tender for Naidu’s pet project ₹3,200 crore Polavaram hydel power project. But he is keeping poll promises by taking over private liquor business, which is the first step to implement prohibition in the state. Reddy learns from Modi, but can they be friends? Reddy seems too have taken a leaf out of the same book as the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. When Modi stormed to power in New Delhi, he used the momentum to take the <a href="https://caravanmagazine.in/politics/how-amit-shah-helped-modi-sideline-his-political-rivals-in-gujarat">floor from the opposition Congress </a>party, which was at the time, led by political elites well entrenched in the system. Yet, Modi and Reddy are not natural allies. Unlike Modi-led BJP which thrives on Hindu pride Reddy has been a Christian for three generations. Unsurprisingly, Reddy's move to give ₹5,000 per month honorarium to pastors in his state was against BJP's core philosophy and caused disagreement. The state’s BJP machinery has been attacking Reddy on minor matters of faith. Yet, Reddy is playing it safe with the party which is in power at the center. Maybe he does not want to make another bitter enemy of a party ruling at the center. Enemy’s enemy is not yet a friend The Congress party which was ruling in 2013 had cornered Reddy just the way he is targeting Naidu. And, with worse consequences. After his father’s mysterious death caused by a helicopter crash, the Reddy family clashed with the Gandhis of Congress party. Not only did that ensure that he did not get a place in the Congress party where his father belonged, it got him into more trouble. He had later blamed the Gandhis for instigating CBI raids at his home and offices. This culminated in a disproportionate assets case against him which is still in litigation. In fact, he also spent a few months at Chanchalguda jail. In that sense, BJP and YSRCP have a common enemy--the Congress Party. But, Reddy has not shown any inclination to make friends with the BJP. But if he manages to wipe out TDP from the state, then he could ensure that BJP will not dial its former partner Naidu once again. It will ensure that he can enjoy unabated power, which is what people in power always seem to crave for.

Years of bad blood between Jagan Reddy and Chandrababu Naidu is spilling out

There is jubilance at the party headquarters of YSR Congress Party as it has routed the ruling party Telugu Desam Party (TDP), in the state assembly elections. The party has 150 seats and leading in one more. TDP head Chandrababu Naidu submitted his resignation to the governor. However, it is also to be noted that TDP has a 39% vote share while YSRC has 50% share of the state’s votes. Reddy’s legwork Jagan Reddy has walked in late father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s foothpath, literally. The senior Reddy of Congress party ended nine years of Naidu rule and extensive popularity in 2004, with a padyatra or a walking tour where he walked across every second village in the state. Jagan too had followed up with his father’s winning plan, with a <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/andhra-pradesh-news/jaganmohan-reddy-to-conclude-429-day-padyatra-in-andhra-pradesh-today-1974775" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">429-day padyatra</a> or a match-on-foot and has reportedly met 20 million of his voters along the way—something which helped him win the mandate with a thumping majority. The issues he took up with them were also high on voters’ minds. One question that Reddy repeatedly reiterated as to why Chandrababu Naidu the head of TDP was unable to get the state a special status in spite of his ‘closeness’ to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The state of Andhra Pradesh which lost its crown jewel Hyderabad, is on a rebuild mode after its division in 2014. In fact, Naidu broke away from National Democratic Alliance (NDA) over the issue, but that doesn’t seem to have placated the public. From Jail to CM’s post Not too long back, a few years soon after his father’s death in 2009, Jagan Reddy was embroiled in a CBI case which also involved his late father. The duo was accused of colluding and giving away licences and other mining rights to companies and accepting bribes in a disproportionate assets case. According to a CBI investigation, as much as <a href="https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/economy/rs-43000-cr-got-diverted-to-jagans-firms-cbi/article20458579.ece">Rs 43,000 crores were</a> diverted illegally into various businesses owned by him. The Reddy family have varied business interests across sectors like mining, cement, power along with investments in media companies. As a result of the intense crackdown on black money, Reddy was arrested in 2012 and spent around 16 months in jail. He was released on bail, and the case is still ongoing. A new party Last elections in 2014, YSR Congress was routed by the TDP-BJP combine. However, very few political pundits wrote off Jagan, especially after his thumping win at Kadapa by-elections in 2011 which shows that he had popular support. He had then won by a margin of five-and-a-half votes over his nearest Congress rival. Cracks between Rajesekhar Reddy’s heir apparent Jagan and party leader Sonia Gandhi emerged after she asked him to call off a ‘condolence tour’ that he went on, after his father’s death. The tour came at a time when tensions were ride on the Telangana state division issue. However, Jagan went ahead while defying the new Congress chief minister in power K Rosaiah, and resigned as the party MP in 2010. Soon after, Jagan took over the reins of the YSR Congress party formed by a fan of his father, and finally led it to its success. One of Y S R Reddy’s poll promises were free electricity and a health insurance programme and reinvigorated a provide rice for Rs 2 per kilo. While his predecessor Naidu concentrated on development, Reddy had successfully countered it with social welfare schemes, winning him two mandates in 2004 and 2009. With populist schemes, YSR soon turned a regional strongman with his stature elevated to that of a messiah --- which only swelled after his accidental death in 2009.

Jagan Reddy’s win marks the rise of the prodigal son

Telangana CM <keyword id="80355" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="K-Chandrasekhar-Rao">K Chandrasekhar Rao</keyword> is now in trouble as a case has been registered against him for alleged illegal tapping of phone calls of his Andhra Pradesh counterpart <keyword id="6354350" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Chandrababu-Naidu">Chandrababu Naidu</keyword> in the wake of the cash-for-votes scam. 
 

	The case has been registered against KCR under Sections 464, 647, 471, 166, 167 and 120/B of IPC, according to a PTI report. 
	 

	Inspector of III-Town Police Station, B Tirumala Rao, said a Vizag-based advocate NVV Prasad has lodged a complaint against KCR for violating the basic rights of the Andhra Pradesh chief minister and "tarnishing" his image by tapping his telephone lines. 
	 

	In his complaint, the assistant Public Prosecutor accused the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) of deliberately trying to snoop on Telugu Desam Party (TDP) members. 
	 

	Meanwhile, a conversation in an audio tape between Chandrababu Naidu and nominated MLA Elvys Stephenson, aired in a section of local TV channels has given a new twist to the cash-for-votes controversy. On Sunday, <keyword id="2889050" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Parakala-Prabhakar-Advisor">Parakala Prabhakar Advisor</keyword> (Communications) to the Andhra government strongly denied all such reports saying that the tapes were fabricated. The conversation suggested that the <keyword id="209302" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Andhra-chief-minister">Andhra chief minister</keyword> was giving "assurance of all sorts" to the MLA if he votes for TDP nominee in the Telangana Legislative Council election. Prabhakar further alleged that the <keyword id="541763" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Telangana-Government">Telangana government</keyword> is only trying to malign the image of Naidu by resorting to such cheap tactics. "It is not the chief minister's conversation. How come they are available outside. The Telangana government has to give answer to this. The Telangana CM and home minister should give answers," Parakala said. 
	 

	The anti-corruption bureau of Telangana is in the process of questioning TDP MLA Revanth Reddy and two others who have been arrested in cash-for-vote case.

It was not the first time that he was arrested by the Telangana police. An emotional Revanth Reddy once said that he would never forget the fact that he was in jail when his daughter was getting married. Call him the product of a political witch-hunt if you will, but this win is the best vindication Revanth Reddy could have looked for. Sunday’s victory should heal some of Revanth Reddy’s hurt, who is now all set to be the next Chief Minister of the southern state. KCR, who contested from two seats this time round, was trailing Revanth Reddy in Kamareddy seat by more than a few thousand votes. Big celebrations were seen at the residence of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Revanth Reddy's residence and party headquarters in Gandhi Bhavan, after the Election Commission data showed that Congress had won in India’s youngest state. Congress supporters were dancing amid drumbeats outside the residence of Reddy, a front-runner for the post of chief minister. He is currently serving as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Malkajgiri constituency in the 17th Lok Sabha. Early political career Born on November 8, 1967, in Kondareddy Palli, Mahbubnagar district, Telangana, Reddy's political journey began during his student days. His active involvement in student politics nurtured his passion for serving the community and advocating for the rights of the marginalised. His early political forays include contesting local body elections in 2006 and emerging victorious as a ZPTC member from Midjil mandal as an independent candidate. Reddy's political career gained momentum in 2007 when he was elected as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) from the Hyderabad seat as an independent candidate. His independent spirit and ability to connect with the masses caught the attention of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu, leading to Reddy's induction into the TDP in 2008. His association with the TDP proved to be a turning point in his political trajectory. In 2009, he contested from Kodangal assembly constituency and won the election as a TDP candidate. His electoral success continued in 2014 when he retained his Kodangal assembly seat, cementing his position as a prominent political figure in Telangana. A shift in allegiance In 2017, a significant shift occurred in Reddy's political allegiance. Along with 12 other MLAs, he resigned from the TDP and joined the Indian National Congress (INC). This move was driven by ideological differences and a belief that the INC could better serve the interests of the people of Telangana. Reddy's decision to join the INC marked a new chapter in his political career. He contested the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_Telangana_Legislative_Assembly_election">2018 Telangana Assembly elections</a> from Kodangal as a Congress candidate and lost to TRS candidate Patnam Narender Reddy. He contested from the same constituency in the 2019 general elections and emerged victorious, securing his place in the 17th Lok Sabha. In June 2021, Reddy was appointed as the president of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), the party's state unit in Telangana. This responsibility entrusted him with spearheading the party's campaign in the 2023 Telangana <keyword id="6372146" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="assembly-elections" source="Orion">Assembly elections</keyword>. Beyond his political accomplishments, Reddy is also known for his active family life. He is married to Geetha, niece of former union minister Jaipal Reddy. The couple has a daughter, Nymisha. <ul><li>Multiple constituencies around India are reporting of problems with their Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).</li><li>Odisha and Andhra Pradesh are among the two states with the highest instances of <keyword id="59035" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="evm">EVM</keyword> malfunctions so far.</li><li>A Jana Sena party member was also arrested for trying to destroy an <keyword id="467705" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="EVM-machine">EVM machine</keyword> in Andhra Pradesh.</li></ul>The general election has only just begun and <a href="https://twitter.com/TOIHyderabad/status/1116168496390594560">reports</a> of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) malfunctions are flying in from multiple corners of the country. Butchirajupalem in Visakhapatnam and Cooch Behar in West Bengal were one of the first constituencies to halt voting because the EVM machines stopped working. One of the poll booths in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and two booths in Hyderabad, Telangana are also reported facing problems with their voting machines a while later. But most of the EVM malfunctions are being reported in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. In Andhra Pradesh, Telugu Desam Party and the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) are reporting EVM malfunctions. YSRCP is reporting that as many as 99 of the polling booths aren’t working. Tensions between both political parties have <a href="http://resulted">resulted</a> in violent clashes and ransacking of poll booths. According to the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu Naidu, its a <a href="https://twitter.com/ANI/status/1116216514917617670?s=19" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">discouraging signal</a> for voters who may not necessarily return once an EVM has been replaced or repaired. And if it wasn’t enough that EVMs are breaking down on their own, a Jana Sena party member was <a href="https://www.abplive.in/election/jana-sena-candidate-arrested-for-damaging-evm-962424">arrested</a> from trying to destroy one of the voting machines in the Guntakal Assembly constituency of Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh. <a href="https://twitter.com/ANI/status/1116346109494996992?s=19">According</a> to the election commission there have been six incidents in Andhra Pradesh, five in Arunachal Pradesh, one in Bihar, two in Manipur and one in West Bengal. The issue of EVMs EVMs have faced their fair share of controversy in India. There has been many a claim that the machines are vulnerable to being hacked and have security issues. It’s one of the reasons that Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) was brought into the picture. It allows voters to verify that their vote was registered correctly.
