With a growing indigenous base of manufacturers, <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>'s <keyword id="2757731" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="drone-industry" source="Orion">drone industry</keyword> may play an instrumental role in public services such as agriculture, defence, healthcare and infrastructure maintenance in the future, say experts while also highlighting some concerns around the safety and privacy of these unmanned aerial vehicles. Drones are mini pilotless aircraft operated by remote control and can be accessed through simple devices like a smartphone app. These unmanned vehicles require far less effort, time and energy, and can reach far and difficult terrains while being controlled by a single person remotely. Popularity and adoption of drone technology is catching up across regions and sectors and India is no exception to it. Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said last month that India will need approximately one lakh drone pilots in the coming years. In order to showcase the potential of the indigenous drone industry, India recently organised its biggest drone festival in the national capital. Bharat Drone Mahotsav, a two-day event held on May 27 and 28 in the capital saw over 1,600 delegates, including government officials, foreign diplomats, PSUs, private companies and drone startups etc. as participants. The companies exhibited unmanned vehicles ready for fields such as defence, agriculture, survey mapping while also showcasing futuristic cutting edge projects that will entail the drones taking bigger roles such as carrying patients in emergencies to delivering goods and essentials at a mass level. New-Delhi based drone maker Theta Enerlytics along with Vega Aviation Products showcased their endurance &amp; hard body drones at the festival. "These drones can be used for various purposes like agriculture, forest management services, town and city planning services, revenue and planning departments, police services, smart cities within the public sector and industries, power plants, mining companies, construction companies to name a few," said <keyword id="14180187" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karan-Dhaul" source="Orion">Karan Dhaul</keyword>, Chairman and co-founder, Theta Enerlytics. "Our drones are made with complete composite materials which enable a higher-flying time than any other drones in their class. Our Theta Falcon can fly up to 150 minutes in a single flight and can carry up to 1kilogramme of sensors and payloads," Dhaul told PTI. He noted that 'Theta Falcon' is ideal for mapping applications, surveillance and border security. The drone takes off vertically like a helicopter and then transitions into horizontal flight like an airplane. Another drone showcased at the festival, 'Hexacopter Theta Lotus', can carry a payload of up to 10 kg in ideal conditions and can be also used for stringing guidewires for transmission lines, ropeway bridges and cable cars. "The Lotus can fly up to 70 minutes on a single charge," said Dhaul. Many drones displayed at the festival have a specific and strong use case and will do well due to the burgeoning demand in the country, said Suhas <keyword id="2921292" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="chandak" source="Orion">Chandak</keyword>, owner of Karnataka-based Vega Aviation Products. "In India drone companies are already providing services worth 100 crores, and are poised to increase tenfold," Chandak told PTI. Drone technology expert Dharmendra Singh concurred, saying a huge market and demand for drones is coming very fast in the country. "Now, a lot of private players are coming in this area which will certainly reduce the cost of the drones as well as the services of the drones for different applications," Singh, professor at Department of Electronics &amp; Communication Engineering, <keyword id="55119" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Institute-of-Technology" source="Orion">Indian Institute of Technology</keyword> (IIT) Roorkee told PTI. "So, it might be possible that in near future India may have very cost-effective services in various places like agriculture, delivery system, project monitoring, health sector etc," he added. As India aims to become a global hub for drone technology by 2030, Singh said highly stable and precise drones with good coverage capability may play an instrumental role in public services. The professor noted that India has enough infrastructure, good supply chain and excellent technical capacity for deploying drones, however, some concerns remain. "Privacy, secret monitoring or spying and collisions of the drones are some of the concerns that can hinder their large-scale implementation," he added. Chandak said the government is well aware of these issues and the zoning of the country into green, orange and red zones has addressed most fears and concerns, especially those around privacy. "However, as an industry we must ensure failsafe against equipment failure or human error as a single accident can change the fate of any operator," said Chandak. "As a deterrent to rogue drones, it would be helpful if the government makes easier the indigenous manufacture and deployment of anti drone systems and jammers to help protect infrastructure against antisocial elements," he added. India's indigenous drones set to take flight but concerns remain, say experts

Global <keyword id="6451058" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="semiconductor" source="Orion">semiconductor</keyword> body <keyword id="21260120" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="semi" source="keywords">SEMI</keyword> and its peer <keyword id="20317526" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="iesa" source="keywords">IESA</keyword> have announced a strategic agreement to boost the industry ecosystem in <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword>, a joint statement said. As part of the agreement, the <keyword id="20764178" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-electronics-and-semiconductor-association" source="keywords">Indian Electronics and Semiconductor Association</keyword> (IESA) will become part of the SEMI-- the organiser of Semicon events including <keyword id="22843110" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="semicon-india" source="keywords">Semicon India</keyword>. "This partnership will help SEMI grow a strong presence in this critical emerging market and enable both organisations to identify tangible strategies that leverage our combined strengths to enhance supply chain resilience," Ajit Manocha, President and CEO, SEMI said. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of Semicon India 2024, the statement said on Wednesday. This agreement will also pave the way for joint policy advocacy efforts, with IESA and SEMI working closely with both Central and State governments to drive incentives for product development and manufacturing, leveraging key programmes such as the <keyword id="19952889" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="production-linked-incentive" source="keywords">Production Linked Incentive</keyword> (PLI) and Design Linked Incentive (DLI) models, it said. These four companies areHermes Voyages Private Limited, Mayapur Merchandise Private Limited, Premier Sports Tourism Private Limited and Anand Trade Consultant Private Limited. As per the records of the Registrar of Companies (RoC), arrested West Bengal Minister <keyword id="676673" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jyotipriya-mallick" source="Orion">Jyotipriya Mallick</keyword>'s former personal assistant Avijit Das and thelatter's wife Sukanya Das are directors in all the companies. According to the RoC records, the registered offices are Hermes Voyages, Mayapur Merchandise and Premier Sports Tourism are the same at Diamond Heritage Building, 16 Strand Road 8th Floor, Room No. 810C , Kolkata - 700001. However, the registered office of Anand Trade Consultant is different at 6/2, Bhagaban Chatterjee Lane,Bantra Howrah - 711101 Sources said the EDsleuths doubt that these four corporate entities are actually shell companies meant for division of the ill-gotten proceeds in the ration distribution case. With these four entities, the total number of <keyword id="9740832" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shell-entities" source="Orion">shell entities</keyword> coming under the scanner of the central agency <keyword id="6604807" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sleuths" source="Orion">sleuths</keyword> rises to ten. First the ED sleuths tracked the existence of three such entities, namely Shree Hanuman Realcon Private Limited, Gracious Innovative Private Limited and Gracious Creation Private Limited. As per the records of the Registrar of Companies (ROC), while the current status of Shree Hanuman Realcon is dissolved, the status of the other two entities is shown as "under liquidation". The ED sleuths noticed that the outward remittances in hefty amounts happened within hours or even minutes after the inwards remittances, clearly hinting towards the fact that these companies were floated for the sole purpose of fund diversion. The probe agency sleuths strongly believed that these corporate entities were floated and kept active for a limited period just to divert the proceeds of the ration distribution case through these entities. Next, the ED sleuths identified two other corporate entitiesAJAgrotech andAJRoyal, both based out of Bankura districts, in West Bengal, where from the investigating officials recently seized an unaccounted cash of Rs 16.80 crore. The tenth company that has surfaced during the investigation is that of apackaged flour production and marketing entity Ankit India Limited, where the ED sleuths recently recovered Rs 1.40 crore of unaccounted cash Ankit India Limited connects the ration distributioncase in West Bengal withill-famous Bihar fodder scam. One of the directors of the said corporate entity, namely Dipesh Chandak was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 1996 in connection with the fodder scam in Bihar. However, he turned approver at a laterstage and also got released.

Sunworks Consultants, which claims to be an IT service provider to the healthcare and telecom space, has recently negotiated for high-end surveillance equipments, which the firm claims that it is buying these equipments for the Research &amp; Analysis Wing of India's intelligence agency. 
 An Economic Times report stated a few emails released by <keyword id="6409883" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="wikileaks">Wikileaks</keyword> last week where Sunworks has even said that the licenses should be on its name because <keyword id="29918" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="raw">RAW</keyword> cannot buy from foreign agencies. 
 
ET filtered through more than 3,400 such emails from Hacking Teams and revealed that India's security services are purchasing their spying technology mostly from the little known merchants that operate as go-between. 
 
The team also acknowledged violence two weeks ago while the emails by Wikileaks reveal that the Hacking Team needed a business development executive for their business in India. 
 
The ET report further mentions Avi Electronics, a small Pune-based IT firm which claims to be working for the Signal and Communications Intelligence which is hooking up with some unusual partners. 
 The report clearly shows the contrast in the procedures followed elsewhere. In the <keyword id="6356955" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="united-states">United States</keyword>, large defence contractors like Booz Allen Hamilton have technology teams that provide services to the intelligence agencies. All those who are part of the process need security clearance and have to sign non-disclosure agreements unlike what is here in India. 
 
Pranesh Prakash, policy director at Centre for Internet and Society has said, "The government must probe the role of private intermediaries such as Semco and Titan (mentioned in the purported emails). They make no mention of this side of their business --procuring surveillance -anywhere on their websites." 
 
While Prashant Chandak of Spantel has said "We have recently received interest from one of the Indian LEAs (law enforcement agencies) to have a system where they can infect the mobile phones or SIM cards of all subscribers in sensitive areas to continuously track their location with high accuracy.”

With innovation and design being at the core of ‘Make in India’, we believe the government should promote R&amp;D benefits to encourage more innovations from India and preference to Made in India products. Investment allowances for IT adoption can promote India as a premiere destination for both hardware and software development and hence, requires attention from the government. Early introduction of GST is also expected to bring a uniform <keyword id="6383566" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Taxation">taxation</keyword> standard across India, which in return will boost the commercial transactions in the country and benefit both corporations and consumers. 
 
Considering the large number of motor vehicle accidents in country, it is necessary to give major filip to the active safety. The regulations mandate on ABS , TPMS , Intelligent Transportation systems , Advanced driver assistance systems and Emission norms, would help to deploy technology and make the drives safer and more comfortable. Indian and global technology and auto companies are investing heavily to make ADAS and ITS a reality. While automakers are struggling with ways to protect their new and existing connected cars, there are technologies that can protect the privacy and security from the very start. The funding support for intelligent transport systems infrastructure and tax benefits for the ADAS , Digital Radio and Active Safety equipped vehicles would be very helpful in this direction. The government also needs to support promotion of the hybrid and electric vehicles and utilize technologies in order to promote innovation in the automotive space and reduce emissions in the country. 
 The Payment and <keyword id="34494" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="banking-industry">Banking industry</keyword> in India undergoing a major change in view of the major boom in e-Commerce and payment bank licences. While the security aspects have to be taken into account upfront. It is desirable to provide tax benefits for the cyber security, Secure Mobile Transactions, Chip based secure payment cards, Point of Sales terminals and infrastructures, to proactively address the end to end security needs of future and add to Make in India initiative. India is still struggling on the T &amp; D losses. The mandate on the Smart Metering and Smart Grid in addition to smart cities initiatives will help not only the T &amp; D losses but also help in having reliable and sufficient power to the citizens of the country. 
 
In summary , the Government need to provide benefits and encouragement for enabling secure connections and secure infrastructure for a smarter India and deployment of the technology solutions that make lives easier, better and safer.”
