Over 33 thousand students have scored marks above 95 per cent while 1.34 lakh students have scored above 90 per cent, the board said. In a first, the <keyword id="32862" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Board-exams" source="Orion">board exams</keyword> were conducted in two terms for the academic session 2021-22. For theory papers, 30 pc weightage has been given to first term marks, while 70 pc weightage has been given to second term marks. "For practical papers, equal weightage has been given to both terms, a board official said. The Supreme Court on Thursday said the ongoing exam process cannot be suddenly made online, which may result in rescheduling the examination, as it junked a plea by a group of students seeking directions to conduct term exams for Classes 10 and 12 for the <keyword id="6356155" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="cbse" source="Orion">CBSE</keyword> and ICSE boards via hybrid mode, rather than physical. A bench comprising Justices A.M. Khanwilkar and C.T. Ravikumar told the petitioners' counsel: "Don't mess up with the education system. Let the authorities continue their work..." The bench noted that if the court were to interfere at this stage, it may lead to practical difficulties as the exams have already commenced. The bench told senior advocate <keyword id="4752448" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sanjay-hedge" source="Orion">Sanjay Hedge</keyword>, representing the petitioners: "Exams are going on. Let us be practical. Now how can it be online...It's too late now and exams cannot be rescheduled." Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, assured the top court that Covid concerns have been taken care of and all necessary precautions have been put in place, to conduct the exams. Mehta said: "Earlier 40 students sat in a class, but now only 12 students will be sitting in a class so that there is social distancing. Number of exam centers has been increased to 15,000..." Noting that the petitioners have moved the top court late, the bench said the last-minute business should not be encouraged and declined to entertain the petition. The petitioners argued that the CBSE and ICSE boards, conducting exams via physical mode, are acting in contravention of Covid guidelines. The exams for Classes 10 and 12 students for the academic year 2021-22 are scheduled to be held from November 16 and November 22. The petitioners contended that about 26,000 schools are affiliated to the <keyword id="64578" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cbse-board" source="Orion">CBSE Board</keyword> alone and at any rate, such continuous exposure through offline exams sharply increases the risk of infection to Covid-19 rendering the impugned action as arbitrary and in violation of right to health. Supreme Court rejects the plea to conduct CBSE, ICSE class 10 and 12 term exams via hybrid mode

Complying with the recommendations of National Education Policy (<keyword id="188165" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NEP">NEP</keyword>) 2020, the <keyword id="6356155" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="cbse">CBSE</keyword> has introduced coding and data science as skill subjects in the schools. Sharing the information, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank tweeted: "Under NEP 2020, we promised to introduce coding and data science in schools. Today, I'm happy to see CBSE fulfilling the promise right in the session of 2021 itself. "In association with <keyword id="10387" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Microsoft">Microsoft</keyword>, CBSE is empowering India's future generations with new-age skills. Kudos." The CBSE also communicated to all heads of its affiliated Institutions about the introduction of 'coding' and 'data science' as a skill module or skill subject from the current session. The CBSE wrote that coding is a creative activity that students from any discipline can engage in and it helps to build computational thinking, develop problem solving skills, critical thinking and exposure to real life situations to solve issues in various realms. "Therefore, coding' is being introduced as a Skill Module of 12 hours duration in Classes 6 to 8. The idea is to simplify the coding learning experience by nurturing design thinking, logical flow of ideas and applying this across the disciplines," its communique said. Faculty and Student Handbooks have been created with support from Microsoft, so that the students can work on applied projects and integrate coding across multiple subjects and make learning fun. "Faculty resources will empower the faculty for teaching these concepts. The Handbooks cover real life examples on coding. builds exposure to ethics of coding and provides exercises and applications using the open source MakeCode platform," it said. Emphasizing importance of data in today's world, the CBSE introduced 'data science' as a Skill Module of 12 hours duration in class VIII and as a Skill Subject in classes IX-XII. Student and faculty handbooks and teaching materials have been created with support from Microsoft. The NEP -2020 has laid stress on skilling of students and recommended that by 2025, atleast 50 per cent of learners (through the school and higher education system) should have exposure to vocational education, for which a clear action plan with targets and timelines will be developed. Currently, the CBSE offers nine Skill Modules at middle school level, 18 Skill Subjects at Secondary level and 38 Skill Subjects at Senior Secondary level to upgrade the skills and proficiency of the young generation and explore the various career options available. More than 20 lakhs students are presently studying Skill Subjects at Secondary and Senior Secondary level in approximately 12,000 schools. CBSE schools to offer coding and data science in a tie-up with Microsoft

Bifurcating the academic session, holding two term-end exams and rationalising the syllabus were part of the special assessment scheme for class 10 and 12 board examinations in 2021-22 announced by the <keyword id="69419" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Central-Board-of-Secondary-Education">Central Board of Secondary Education</keyword> (<keyword id="6356155" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="cbse">CBSE</keyword>) on Monday in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. The term one exams will be conducted by the Board in November-December, 2021 while the second term exams will be conducted in March-April, 2022, as per an official order by <keyword id="606469" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Joseph-Emmanuel">Joseph Emmanuel</keyword>, Director (Academic) of the CBSE. The syllabus for the board examination will be rationalised, similar to that of the last academic session, and will be notified in July 2021, it said and also announced plans to make the internal assessment and project work more "credible" and "valid". At the end of the first term, the board will organise exams in a flexible schedule between November-December 2021 with a window period of 4-8 weeks for schools situated in different parts of the country and abroad. "The exams will have Multiple Choice Questions (<keyword id="110202" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="McQ">MCQ</keyword>) including case-based MCQs and MCQs on assertion-reasoning type. Duration of test will be 90 minutes and it will cover only the rationalised syllabus of the first term. The question papers will be sent by the CBSE to schools along with the marking scheme. "The exams will be conducted under the supervision of the external center superintendents and observers appointed by CBSE. The responses of students will be captured on <keyword id="6470854" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="omr">OMR</keyword> sheets which, after scanning may be directly uploaded at the CBSE portal or alternatively may be evaluated and marks obtained will be uploaded by the school on the very same day," he added. At the end of the second term, the board would organise Term <keyword id="254453" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="II">II</keyword> or year-end examination based on the rationalised syllabus. "This examination would be held around March-April 2022 at the examination centres fixed by the board. The paper will be of two hours duration and have questions of different formats (case-based/ situation based, open ended- short answer/ long answer type). "In case the situation is not conducive for normal descriptive examination a 90-minute MCQ-based exam will be conducted at the end of the second term also," Emmanuel said. The CBSE has decided that in case the situation of the pandemic improves and students are able to come to schools or centres for taking the exams, the board would conduct Term I and II examinations at schools or centres and the theory marks will be distributed equally between the two exams. "In case the situation of the pandemic forces complete closure of schools during November-December 2021, but second term exams are held at schools or centres, the Term I MCQ based examination would be done by students online or offline from home but their weightage will be reduced in the final score," he said. Similarly, if the November-December exams are conducted in schools or centres and situation is not conducive in March-April, the result will be declared on basis of first term exams. "In case the situation of the pandemic forces complete closure of schools and Board conducted Term I and II exams are taken by the candidates from home in the session 2021-22, results would be computed on the basis of their marks clubbed with internal assessment subject to the moderation or other measures to ensure validity and reliability of the assessment," Emmanuel explained. The syllabus for the academic session 2021-22 will be divided into two terms by following a systematic approach by looking into the interconnectivity of concepts and topics by the Subject Experts. "The Board will conduct examinations at the end of each term on the basis of the bifurcated syllabus. This has been done to increase the probability of having a board conducted classes 10 and 12 examinations at the end of the academic session," he said. Schools will also use alternative academic calendar and inputs from the NCERT on transacting the curriculum. "Efforts will be made to make internal assessment, practical, project work more credible and valid as per the guidelines and moderation policy to be announced by the board to ensure fair distribution of marks," he added. The announcement by the CBSE comes after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of board exams this year after much uncertainty. Last year too, exams of some subjects were not held. "The cancellation of exams also necessitated deliberations over alternative ways to look at the learning objectives as well as the conduct of the board examinations for next academic session in case the situation remains unfeasible," Emmanuel said. The board said that the decision has been arrived at following stakeholder consultations with government and private schools from across the country including the ones from remote rural areas and a majority of them have requested for the rationalisation of the syllabus, similar to last year in view of reduced time permitted for organising online classes. "The board has also considered the concerns regarding differential availability of electronic gadgets, connectivity and effectiveness of online teaching and other socio-economic issues specially with respect to students from economically weaker section and those residing in far-flung areas of the country," Emmanuel said. "The Board Exams for Class Xth to be held from 4th May to June 14th, 2021 are hereby cancelled. The results of Class Xth Board will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion to be developed by the Board," Nishank tweeted. "Any candidate who is not satisfied with the marks allocated to him or her on this basis, will be given an opportunity to sit in an exam as and when the conditions are conducive to hold the exams," the Minister said. Nishank further said that the Class 12 exams will be held later and the situation reviewed on June 1 by the CBSE, and the details will be shared subsequently. "A notice of at least 15 days will be given before the start of the examinations." The Minister mentioned that the decision was taken after Prime Minister Modi chaired a high-level meeting to review the examinations to be held at various levels in view of the developing Corona situation. CBSE Class 10 board exams cancelled, Class 12 exams postponed as COVID-19 cases surge

Unable to meet the deadlines set up by the <keyword id="6354977" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Supreme-Court">Supreme Court</keyword> for conducting and evaluating the intermediate (Class 12) <keyword id="78564" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Board-examinations">board examinations</keyword>, the <keyword id="37102" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Andhra-Pradesh">Andhra Pradesh</keyword> government on Thursday cancelled it as well as the Class 10 board <keyword id="6364702" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="examinations">examinations</keyword>. "It is impossible to complete the process of examinations by July 31, as directed by the Supreme Court. We have informed this matter to the Chief Minister," said Education Minister Adimulapu <keyword id="9999" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suresh">Suresh</keyword>. He said that the apex Court gave leeway for the state to come up with a scheme of assessment within 10 days and complete examination process by July 31, which is not possible for the state. "Because of the tight schedule, it is not possible to conduct the exams. The government has cancelled Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) theory 2021 exams," he said, adding that it generally takes 45 days to complete this process and announce the results. Suresh said the scheme of evaluating marks for the cancelled intermediate examinations will be declared soon. A high-powered committee will decide the mechanism for awarding marks to students soon. Considering the prevailing circumstances, the state government has also cancelled Class 10 standard examinations. "Cancelling examinations is the second best option while the first option was always conducting the examinations," he added. According to the Minister, the Court also ordered the <keyword id="56459" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="University-Grants-Commission">University Grants Commission</keyword> (<keyword id="44171" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="UGC">UGC</keyword>) to not commence the admission process until the <keyword id="6356155" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="cbse">CBSE</keyword>, the <keyword id="6386146" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="icse">ICSE</keyword> and all the states declare their results for these exams by July 31. He said this decision has been taken to ensure that AP students will not be at a loss while taking admissions for undergraduate courses. However, Suresh said the government was prepared to conduct the exams always duly following the Covid protocols, which is not the case anymore considering the Court's deadlines. Amaravati(AP), Feb 25 () The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to implement <keyword id="8273082" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="cbse-system">CBSE system</keyword> for classes 1 to 7 in all its schools from the 2021-22 <keyword id="53033" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Academic-Year">academic year</keyword>. The system will be gradually increased year-wise from classes 8 to 10. By the year 2024, all classes from 1 to 10 will be under CBSE, a release from the Chief Ministers Office said. The move comes amid an ongoing litigation in the <keyword id="6354977" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Supreme-Court">Supreme Court</keyword> against the conversion of all government schools, from classes 1 to 6, to English medium, a move that has caused widespread resentment. "This is only one of the proposals we discussed at a meeting with the Chief Minister on Wednesday. We have to study the pros and cons before going ahead, so no final decision has been taken in this regard," the official said.
