There are also some posts from passengers describing the other side of the interaction.One <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.tiktok.com/@marieinflorida/video/7211270000487730474?q=uber%20driver%20paying%20with%20cash&amp;t=1731073771165">TikTok post</a> from last year appears to show an Uber driver asking a rider, who is filming the interaction, asking her to pay $70 in cash for a ride for which Uber was charging her $80. The video appears to show the driver saying that Uber wasn't paying him enough for the ride and that he was "just being nice" by offering her a discount on the ride. The poster did not respond to a request to discuss the video from Business Insider.Michael Moya, who drives for Uber in Boston, said he often hears drivers discussing whether to offer customers the option not to use the apps and pay using cash or a separate payment app like Venmo.The option could backfire, he said, including Uber and Lyft <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-gig-workers-are-fighting-against-sudden-account-deactivations-2023-9">deactivating the drivers' accounts</a>. "Some drivers have considered accepting payment outside the app, but it's risky," Moya said. "We could lose our accounts if a passenger reports us, so most drivers try to avoid this."Canceling a ride can also cost riders. If that market keeps falling, it will affect the economy and the Fed," Juckes said.Juckes added: "The labour market remains tight, the economy is still growing. Three people on the December 16 flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Changi Airport, operated by budget airline Scoot, had a total of around S$31,000 ($23,300) taken from their luggage, the outlet reported.52-year-old Zhang Ziuqiang has been charged with three counts of theft and could face up to three years in jail and a fine if found guilty. Ziuqiang stands accused of stealing almost $21,000 in cash from a black haversack backpack, according to charge sheets viewed by CNA. He is accused of stealing a further $1,000 and almost $700 from an envelope in a grey bag, as well as $574 from another backpack, the charge sheet says.He will remain under investigation and will return to court on December 22. While Germans have long favored buying things with cash instead of cards or other form of electronic payments, organized criminals have exploited this habit in the last few years.Last year, 496 ATMs were blown up as part of cash-grab heists, a 27% increase from 2021, the Federal Criminal Police Office told the FT. On average, such raids could yield 100,000 euros, equivalent to $110,686.5.That translated to 30 million euros that were stolen via ATM bombings last year, up 53% from a year earlier.More than half of Germans prefer physical banknotes over cards or digital tender, meaning that the country has over 55,000 ATMs filled with high-denomination euros. Efforts to implement effective ATM and law enforcement standards are diluted by the fact that Germany has over 1,500 lenders, while each province leads its own policing task force.And while countries such as the Netherlands have implemented protection systems that glue cash together in the case of a raid, this hasn't been carried out in Germany over health and safety considerations.Meanwhile, attempts to fortify ATMs against earlier types of detonations were thwarted when the criminals switched to different explosives, according to the FT.Still, some success has occurred, with police groups in one province learning to analyze potential escape routes as a way to prepare. And prosecutors of those captured are also starting to add attempted murder charges as the explosions put nearby residents in danger.
