The slowdown in sales was not limited to passenger cars alone. There has also been a decline in sales of <keyword id="23540336" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="goods-carriers" source="keywords">goods carriers</keyword>, which dropped by 15.8% during the same period. This drop across different segments of the auto industry reflects the challenges the sector faces during the current fiscal year. Two-wheeler sales showed a more positive trend. Scooter sales recorded a growth of 16.9% in the second quarter, with a total of 18.32 lakh units sold compared to 15.67 lakh units in the same period last year. Motorcycle sales also increased by 10.2%, reaching 32.09 lakh units compared to 29.13 lakh units in the year-ago quarter. On the other hand, the electric rickshaw (E-rickshaw) segment saw a sharp decline in sales. E-rickshaw sales dropped by 30.7% in the second quarter, with only 7,227 units sold compared to 10,430 units in the same quarter last year. While the automakers managed to report a small increase in sales after three months of decline, rising inventory levels at dealerships continue to remain a concern. The domestic PV sales increased to 401,447 units in October 2024, recording a modest 1.8% growth year-on-year. <h2>Automakers report a decline</h2>Maruti Suzuki, the country’s biggest automaker took a hit in October 2024, with 1,59,591 cars sold, down from 1,68,047 cars sold in October 2023, recording a 5% year-on-year decline in sales. However, the company reported strong exports, allowing it to record its highest-ever overall monthly sales at 2,06,434 vehicles, registering a 4% year-on-year growth. October auto sales – Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors report a decline, Mahindra continues to grow

In the fourth quarter the unitary cooling products business segment revenue grew by 44 per cent to Rs 2,955 crore as compared to Rs 2,049 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year on account of a better product mix enhancement approach, the company said. The engineering products and services division clocked revenue of Rs 156 crore as compared to Rs 142 crore in the year-ago period, it added. Voltas net profit declines 22% YoY to ₹110.64 crore in Q4 FY24

Maruti Suzuki India registers highest-ever monthly sales in festive-filled October

State-owned <keyword id="20039085" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Coal-India-Ltd" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Coal India Ltd" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Coal India Ltd">Coal India Ltd</keyword>'s contribution to the <keyword id="21546749" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="government-exchequer" source="keywords">government exchequer</keyword> increased by 6.4 per cent to Rs 60,140.31 crore in <keyword id="19910780" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="FY24" source="keywords">FY24</keyword>, over the financial year 2022-23. <keyword id="19903245" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Coal-India" source="keywords">Coal India</keyword> Ltd (CIL), which accounts for over 80 per cent of domestic coal output, paid Rs 56,524.11 crore to the government exchequer in FY23, according to provisional figures of the coal ministry. Total levies paid to the government in March 2024 also went up by 14.8 per cent to Rs 6,069.18 crore from Rs 5,282.59 crore paid in the corresponding month of FY23. Of the total Rs 60,140.42 crore paid to the government exchequer in FY24, maximum amount of Rs 13,268.55 crore was made to the state government of Jharkhand, followed by Rs 12,836.20 crore to the Odisha government, Rs 11,890.79 crore to Chhattisgarh, Rs 10,865.96 crore to Madhya Pradesh, and Rs 6,188.89 crore to Maharashtra among others. The coal-producing states earned the <keyword id="19945274" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="revenue" source="keywords">revenue</keyword> from royalty, District Mineral Foundation (DMF) and National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET) among others. The government had earlier said that the coal-producing states earned a revenue of Rs 1.52 lakh crore in the last nine years from royalty, DMF and NMET. Coal mining sector has proved to be a big booster for the economic growth of the states that produce fossil fuel. State governments are entitled to receive 14 per cent of royalty on the sale price of coal and 30 per cent of the royalty as contribution towards the proposed district mineral foundations (DMFs)-- which is meant to support project-affected people---and two per cent of NMET from dry-fuel produced by the coal companies and also the private sector. In case of captive, commercial mines states are also entitled to receive the revenue share offered by the auction holder in a transparent bidding process. Apart from this, state governments also benefit from increased employment, land compensation, increased investment in allied infrastructure like railways, road and several other economic benefits. Coal India's contribution to govt exchequer rises 6.4% to ₹60,140 crore in FY24

"For the first time, the company surpassed annual total sales milestone of 2 million units in FY24. The company continued to be the top exporter for the third consecutive year, now contributing 41.8 per cent of total passenger vehicle exports from India," the company stated. Maruti Suzuki shares were trading at Rs 12,687.05 apiece at the day's close, down 1.7 per cent from its previous close on the BSE. Maruti Suzuki Q4 net profit rises 47.8% to ₹3,877.8 crore

Despite a challenging global environment in FY23, Indian auto companies made the most of the first disruption-free year after the Covid-19 pandemic. Overall, domestic sales rose 21% year-on-year in the 11 months of FY23 when compared to the same period in FY22. Urban demand, festive sales and pre-buying due to the BS6 Phase 2 transition helped boost the overall volumes – once again driven by passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles – despite supply chain challenges and a semiconductor chip shortage, according to the research firm. According to a report by ratings agency ICRA, the auto components industry is also expected to witness 5% to 8% growth in revenue in FY24, primarily due to strong demand from the domestic market. “Over the long term, opportunities in the electric vehicle market, premiumisation of vehicles, a focus on localisation, improved export potential, and changes in regulatory norms will result in healthy growth for auto component suppliers,” ICRA said.
