India shows Timothee Chalamet, Hugh Grant, Olivia Coleman, Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key and Simon Farnaby trying the Indian candy.<br /><br />Chalamet likes the bright yellow and green packaging.<br /><br />To which, Coleman says the packaging "is like a little handbag."<br /><br />She then tries the candy calling it is yummy and tagged it as her "favourite".<br /><br />Grant then tries it and said: "I am liking this very much. It takes me back to Calcutta (Kolkata)."<br /><br />Chalamet says the last three candies, including this one were a "home run."<br /><br />Keegan loves it too.<br /><br />The interviewer talks about how children share this candy in school on their birthday, to which, Keegan says: "Such a nice tradition."<br /><br />Farnaby hilariously added: "On your birthday you hand things out. Hugh Grant tries Mango Bite, says it takes him 'back to Calcutta'

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The director of "Wonka" said he gained 50 pounds from consuming the on-set chocolate.</li><li>However, he said lead actor Timothée Chalamet didn't seem to have the same problem.</li></ul><p>The director of "<a href="https://www.insider.com/wonka-timothee-chalamet-details-information-2023-7">Wonka</a>" said that working on a chocolate-centered film ended up having a bit of an adverse effect on his waistline, and marveled at lead star <a href="https://www.insider.com/timothee-chalamet-facts-2018-10">Timothée Chalamet's</a> ability to stay "slim" throughout production.</p><p>In an interview with <a href="https://people.com/wonka-director-jokes-about-chocolate-consumed-on-set-timothee-chalamet-exclusive-7561451" target="_blank" rel="noopener">People magazine</a>, filmmaker Paul King spoke about the experience of shooting the movie, which centers on the life of the titular chocolatier before he founded his chocolate factory, and so naturally required lots and lots of real chocolate.</p><p>While King couldn't put an exact number on how much chocolate the cast and crew consumed on set, he noted it was a "great deal, which was a wonderful thing" that reminded him that his "life had taken a wonderful turn."</p><p>King said he gained "about 50 pounds" and said he hopes "I can lose it" before the movie "comes out" in December. </p><p>"We had this incredible chocolatier," the "Paddington" director continued. "She made these incredible concoctions, and we would taste them."</p><p>"They tasted much better than they needed to, because obviously, actors are good at pretending things, but the miracle was they tasted every bit as good as they looked."</p><p>As for Chalamet — who steps into the role previously made famous by Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp in 1971 and 2005 adaptations of Roald Dahl's children's classic, respectively — he said the young star didn't have any such problems.</p><p>"It's a miracle that Timmy remains so slim and handsome," King said. </p><p>He added: "I'm trying to fatten him up, but it's hard to do."</p><p>King revealed that audiences can look forward to a scene in which Chalamet's Wonka and his friend Noodle (Calah Lane) swim around in "an enormous vat of hot chocolate."</p><p>He said that it was "not scalding, just warm hot chocolate for them to immerse themselves in."</p><p>The prequel movie will be released in cinemas on December 15, and King recently told <a href="http://rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-features/wonka-trailer-paul-king-timothee-chalamet-hugh-grant-oompa-loompa-youtube-1234785386/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rolling Stone</a> that "Dune" actor Chalamet didn't have to audition to land his role.</p><p>King said he "knew from stanning for Timmy Chalamet that he could sing and dance really well" and so <a href="https://www.insider.com/timothee-chalamet-viral-high-school-statistics-rap-landed-wonka-role-2023-7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">gave him "a straight offer"</a> for the lead part.</p><p>"Because he's Timothée Chalamet and his life is so absurd, his high school musical performances are on YouTube and have hundreds of thousands of views," King said.</p><p>"I knew that was in his arsenal, but I didn't know how good he was," he said of the actor, who recorded music for "Wonka" at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London.</p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Warning: There are mild spoilers ahead for "Wonka."</li><li>Timothée Chalamet and Hugh Grant are the best part of the Willy Wonka prequel.</li></ul><p>The new "Wonka" movie is a mixed bag of sweets and duds.</p><p>In this prequel to Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," a young, driven Willy Wonka (Timothée Chalamet) embarks on his journey to open the candy shop of his dreams.</p><p>Unfortunately, the plucky and naive Wonka decides to make his grand debut in a town oversaturated in chocolate stores — and the three prominent chocolatiers there don't take kindly to competition, quickly banding together to crush Wonka's ambition.</p><p>But this chocolate cartel isn't even Wonka's biggest nemesis. He's plagued with a trio of other unnecessary nuisances, ranging from a hot-headed innkeeper holding him hostage to a sneaky Oompa Loompa who's been stealing his chocolate. Then there's Wonka's biggest nemesis of all: the written word.</p><p>With "Wonka," director Paul King (who also made "Paddington") delivers a neither-great-nor-outright-awful musical that's slightly reminiscent of another Dahl entry, "Fantastic Mr. Fox." While it has a few delightful moments, it doesn't call for repeat viewings, unlike the 1971 classic starring Gene Wilder.</p><h2>A silly subplot aside, the movie's magical chocolate moments are enchanting</h2><div type="image" title="Olivia Colman in &quot;Wonka.&quot;" height="1118" width="2670" msid="105736807" hostid="261"></div><p>Though it's supposed to focus on Wonka's mission to open a chocolate store, much of the prequel gets sidetracked by a silly subplot where the chocolate maker gets bamboozled by two grifters all because he can't read. Olivia Colman plays a meanspirited Miss Hannigan-type a la "Annie" who traps unsuspecting travelers at her lodging for years in exchange for forced labor.</p><p>That may not be what audiences are expecting to see when heading out to watch a movie about a guy with dreams of a candy shop. It almost feels like a different movie intertwined with "Wonka" to pad the runtime.</p><p>There's also a bizarre scene in which Chalamet milks a giraffe that goes on for too long. We're here for Wonka's candy adventures and to see the magical effects they have on those who indulge — not an "Annie"-esque sideshow and a zookeeper subplot.</p><p>The prequel is most satisfying when it's focused on the cartoonishly evil chocolate cartel who will stop at nothing to ruin Wonka's dreams, or when it hones in on Wonka's chocolate making and the magic it unleashes into the world. Any dream can become reality with a simple sampling of Wonka's wildest candy creations, provided he can evade the chief of police (a very funny Keegan-Michael Key) long enough to sell them.</p><h2><strong>Timothée Chalamet is the main reason to watch</strong></h2><div type="image" title="Timothée Chalamet as Willy Wonka in &quot;Wonka.&quot;" height="1800" width="4341" msid="105736808" hostid="261"></div><p>Effortlessly entertaining, Chalamet captures Wonka's quirky, eccentric personality as a natural P. T. Barnum showman. He commands the screen as the confident dreamer, whole-heartedly throwing himself into half a dozen musical numbers about making the chocolate empire of his dreams.</p><p>His lofty visions become more attainable through an endearing friendship with a young orphan, Noodle (Calah Lane). Every so often, Chalamet offers a glimmer of Wilder's zaniness and it's obvious why he was cast to play the younger Wonka.</p><p>Only one actor threatens to steal his spotlight.</p><h2><strong>Hugh Grant is an underutilized firecracker</strong></h2><div type="image" title="Timothée Chalamet as Willy Wonka and Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa in &quot;Wonka.&quot;" height="1800" width="2400" msid="105736809" hostid="261"></div><p>Inspired by the sarcastic troop of orange men with green hair from the classic, Grant's a miserable curmudgeon of an Oompa Loompa.</p><p>Though the production notes said Grant joined "Wonka" because of his previous work with King on "Paddington 2," it seems the 63-year-old lost a bet as his performance more or less evokes a painful favor. Grant looks hilarious and bothered most of the time on-screen, but whether ironically or purposefully, it works to great effect.</p><p>Despite <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hugh-grant-hated-playing-oompa-loompa-new-wonka-movie-2023-11">hating the motion-capture process</a>, his grumpy turn as the CGI man who stalks the chocolatier serves as the perfect juxtaposition to Wonka's gullibility, offering laughs during his few short appearances. As Grant's animated body dances against his will as his face remains emotionless, it's as if he's well aware his torture is for the audience's benefit, and he's willing to pay the price for a paycheck.</p><p>Shockingly, there simply isn't enough of Grant in "Wonka." He appears for no more than 15 minutes, and the trailers already gave away a good chunk of his scenes.</p><h2><strong>'Wonka' is a harmless holiday treat that doesn't offer up all the answers it promises</strong></h2><div type="image" title="Timothée Chalamet as Willy Wonka in &quot;Wonka.&quot;" height="1698" width="4096" msid="105736812" hostid="261"></div><p>The "Wonka" poster claims moviegoers will discover how Willy became the legendary chocolatier by the time the movie ends.</p><p>While the prequel alludes to how Wonka eventually ascertains his factory, it does little to answer how this lively and vibrant Wonka eventually transforms into the lonely, isolated legend surrounded only by Oompa Loompas for company.</p><p>Throughout "Wonka," the main character forges friendships with the people around him, like Noodle, but the movie fails to reveal what becomes of those connections, which goes starkly against the lesson Wonka learns in the film's final moments.</p><p>But maybe those answers don't matter. Throughout "Wonka," Chalamet oozes infectious optimism and childlike wonder as he takes us on a journey packed with magical moments and simple joys, including a heartwarming rendition of "Pure Imagination." It's almost enough to get us to believe in even the most ridiculous plotlines — but it's still no "Willy Wonka &amp; the Chocolate Factory."</p><p><em>"Wonka" is in theaters December 15.</em></p><h2><strong>Grade:</strong> C+</h2>

"If you imagine those people in that world 25 years earlier, that was my starting process. Eventually, he would grow into that person and that factory."</p><p>"It's not mining the darker emotions in life," Chalamet said of the premise of "Wonka" during a 2021 interview with <a href="https://time.com/6103203/timothee-chalamet-profile/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Time</a>. "It's a celebration of being off-center and of being OK with the weirder parts of you that don't quite fit in."</p><p>The Oscar-nominated actor shared a similar comment in a 2022 cover story for <a href="https://www.vogue.co.uk/arts-and-lifestyle/article/timothee-chalamet-british-vogue-interview" target="_blank" rel="noopener">British Vogue</a>, calling the movie "so sincere" and "so joyous." </p><p>Keegan-Michael Key, who also stars in the movie, called the film "a nice, big, full, beautiful piece of art" during an interview with <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/keegan-michael-key-timothee-chalamet-wonka-1235253338/">The Hollywood Reporter</a>.</p><p>In May, Chalamet told <a href="https://www.vogue.com/article/chanel-bleu-ambassador-interview" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vogue</a> that he was interested in being part of this project because of its positive nature and message. </p><p>"To work on something that will have an uncynical young audience, that was just a big joy," he said. "That's why I was drawn to it.
