At an event for media, investors, analysts, and dealers at its historic Warren Technical Center to showcase the company's ambitious electrification strategy, president Mark Reuss pulled the cover off a new Cadillac.The Celestiq is a big, luxurious, sedan that will be hand-built in Michigan and run on electrons. It will also be the flagship of Cadillac, which GM has made its lead electric brand."It's a dream car for this company and our customers," Reuss said. "It's the ultimate expression of Cadillac design and technology, and the ultimate luxury experience."In a brief interview, Cadillac president Steve Carlisle indicated that production would be quite limited. "We need to do something we haven't done before," he said. Celestiq will follow the new all-electric Lyriq, which arrives this April. As with a spate of new EVs from GM - the carmaker said it plans to launch 22 vehicles by 2023 - Celestiq will utilize an innovative new battery design, called Ultium.Ultium is a highly modular and scalable battery architecture that could enable GM to lower costs below the $100-per-kilowatt-hour threshold. It will undergird everything from the next-generation Chevy Bolt, a mass-market hatchback, to the forthcoming GMC Hummer pickup truck. "Ice" is actually "ICE" - internal-combustion engine, the powerplant of virtually every vehicle Cadillac has sold since its founding in 1902.For decades, Cadillac was the pinnacle of General Motors' brand ladder, the car you bought, like 1960s advertising maven Don Draper in "Mad Men," when you had made it in America.The arrival of German premium brands such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW in the US market undermined Caddy's lofty position, as did upmarket moves by the Japanese automaker with Acura (Honda), Infiniti (Nissan), and most importantly, Toyota's Lexus.Cadillac had been trying to get its mojo back for decades, and although it should always have the Escalade, its bestselling big SUV, GM president Mark Reuss has made no bones about the brand. "We need to fix Cadillac," he said in an interview with Business Insider several years ago.The fix is underway, as the brand adds to its lineup of SUVs, backs away from sedans, and launched an all-new Escalade this year to keep pace with a reinvigorated Lincoln - but most critically, embraces its role as GM's burgeoning electric brand.<h2>A lot of electric is on the way</h2>GMGM president Mark Reuss.At an EV day for investors, media, and dealers held this week at GM's historic Technical Center near Detroit, the company showcased what looked very much like an all-electric design for the Escalade, revealed another electron-powered crossover named "Lyriq," and pulled the cover off a halo vehicle, dubbed Celestiq, that will be built by hand."We needed to do something we hadn't done before," Carlisle said in an interview at the event.He has a 10-year plan. "We're going to start the decade as an ICE brand, but exit the decade as an EV brand," he said. To clarify the timetable, he pointed out that although the gas-powered automobile was on sale in the early years of the 20th century, the horse as the nation's primary form of transportation didn't really phase out until 1925. Change takes time.For Caddy, the immediate action is with the internal-combustion launch cadence of the next few years. But the electrified transition should pick up speed in late 2022, as the brand shifts its dealers' showrooms to a battery-electric focus, Carlisle said.Offering a slight hedge, Carlisle added: "By 2030, there might be a few ICE motors left."Cadillac's US sales have been reasonable, with the past several years delivering totals in the 150,000-unit ballpark. The China business is also now well-established, beating US sales with over 212,000 units in 2019. On top of the headlamps, the Spectre comes with LED DRLs and the Pantheon LED grille. Being an ultra-luxury offering, the interiors are as premium as they can be, offering bespoke design elements. It features a starlight liner on the door pads, with 4,796 softly illuminated stars on the roof. It features a fully-digital driver’s display, which is equipped with the company’s new Spirit platform. Coming to the powertrain, the Spectre is equipped with two electric motors, one on each axle. They generate 585 hp of power and an impressive 900 Nm of peak torque, which is miles ahead of its competitors. The Spectre is equipped with a 102kWh battery pack and is claimed to offer a range of up to 530 km on a single charge. It can go from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.5 seconds and offers a top speed of 250 kmph. Rolls Royce Spectre rolls out as India’s most expensive electric car

And Tesla certainly got things moving for the electrification of the automotive industry, Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna told <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-02-13/ferrari-ceo-moves-fast-like-musk-while-forging-own-path-on-evs-race?sref=LspfQlRv" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bloomberg</a>. "The big contribution that Tesla has made to the automotive industry?" Vigna said in an interview published on February 13th. "It was a wake-up call. Things used to happen too slowly. Tesla shook up the industry and accelerated processes and decisions." Vigna joined the luxury automaker as CEO in<a href="https://www.ferrari.com/en-EN/corporate/articles/ferrari-appoints-benedetto-vigna-as-chief-executive-officer-corp" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> September of 2021</a>, after working at semiconductor manufacturing corporation STMicroelectronics. While Vigna credited Tesla for its agility, he also stressed the differences between a Tesla and a Ferrari. "There are functional cars that have the goal of moving people from point A to point B, emitting zero carbon dioxide. You don't care about its brand; what really matters is that it moves you," he said. The company unveiled its first ever SUV, the combustion engine powered <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ferrari-suv-purosangue-price-interior-lamborghini-urus-2022-9">Purosangue</a> — "thoroughbred" in Italian — in September of 2022. These are the 37 tech companies most likely to be acquired by private equity firms

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="4581" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="general-motors">General Motors</keyword> may expand the <keyword id="240486" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Corvette">Corvette</keyword> line, turning it into a family of high-performance <keyword id="6354973" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="electric-vehicles">electric vehicles</keyword>, unnamed sources told Bloomberg. </li><li>The most likely vehicle to come out of the project would be a Corvette-branded crossover, the sources said. </li><li>The vehicle could arrive as soon as 2025 and would likely have a profile like the Lamborghini Urus or Ford Mustang Mach-E, Bloomberg reported. </li></ul>Last year Ford launched the Mustang Mach-E, an electric crossover with a sports car's moniker. Now it appears General Motors may follow in the Blue Oval's footsteps. GM wants to develop at least one new <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chevrolet-corvette-mid-engine-review-c8-horsepower-price-specs-chevy-2020-10">Corvette</a>-inspired electric vehicle and may build out the brand into a family of performance vehicles, <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-01-14/gm-said-to-work-on-expanding-corvette-line-with-crossover-suv?sref=LspfQlRv">Bloomberg</a> reported Thursday, citing unnamed sources familiar with the program. The project, internally named "Project R" or "Brand R," already has designers working on several Corvette-branded concept vehicles, according to Bloomberg. The intention is to appeal to a wide range of buyers by selling vehicles that offer Corvette-like performance but in a more comfortable, spacious package, the outlet's sources said. The most likely vehicle to come out of Project R, if it moves forward, would be a high-performance crossover with a profile similar to that of Lamborghini Urus or Mustang Mach-E, Bloomberg reported. The Corvette SUV could hit the market by 2025, and any addition to the Corvette lineup would be an all-electric vehicle, the sources said. The automaker intends to launch 22 new electrified vehicles by 2023, pursuing what CEO Mary Barra has called an "all-electric future."Four EVs are launching in 2020. According to GM, the balance should follow at a rapid clip, and Barra said the program should be profitable "in its first cycle."GM president Mark Reuss presented the fleet of forthcoming EVs that GM showcased at the event, stressing that "everything" is real - the company showed no vaporware concepts that it doesn't intend to bring to market.Here's a rundown of the vehicles, from each GM brand:<h2>Cadillac</h2>In addition to revealing the Celestiq, a hand-built, limited-production, all-electric luxury sedan that has Bentley-level scale, GM provided a closer look at Lyriq, slated to roll out in April 2020. That SUV has an all-new exterior and interior design. The exterior's standout is a multilayered, lighted grille, framed by vertical headlamps. The interior strives to seamlessly integrate various features and has a showstopping, curved LED instrument cluster and LED screen that covers most of the dashboard.Lyriq is topped by a new, three-row SUV that will probably wear the Escalade nameplate. The large, sleek SUV had an LED setup that runs from pillar-to-pillar on the vehicle's dash.Each new Cadillac will be built on GM's new dedicated EV platform at the company's retooled Hamtramck factory in Michigan. The new Caddys will also utilize GM's Ultium battery pack, an innovative, modular pouch design delivering up to 200 kWh capacity and more than 400 miles per charge, with 0-60 mph as low as three seconds.Cadillac has been designated as GM's lead electric brand, so it was no surprise that GM provided a lot of detail about its new lineup.<h2>Buick</h2>Two new Buick electric SUVs are on the way. As-yet unnamed, they'll also use Ultium battery packs and feature a slightly more subdued version of the Cadillac instrument-infotainment LED-screen setup.<h2>Chevy</h2>The next-generation of the pioneering Chevy Bolt EV arrives in late 2020. A crossover Bolt follows in summer of 2021, and it's the first vehicle outside the Cadillac brand to get the Super Cruise handsfree highway self-driving technology.Super Cruise itself has been upgraded. It can now navigate highway interchanges without disengaging, has been tweaked as far as driver-attention monitoring is concerned, and is now easier overall to engage, an adjustment GM made in response to owner feedback.<h2>GMC Hummer</h2>The Hummer returns! First as a GMC pickup truck in May 2020, then as an SUV. Again, the resurgent brand's vehicles will be Ultium-powered and be built using a new EV platform and up to three electric motors.Unlike Cadillac and Buick, the updated GM infotainment system will be less luxuriously high-tech in Hummer, designed instead to be robustly interactive when taken into rough, off-road conditions. Still, a large central touchscreen will be the centerpiece.<h2>Cruise</h2>The self-driving/ride-sharing startup acquired by GM in 2016 and a standalone company valued at nearly $20 billion showed its Origin shuttle at GM's EV day.Built with Honda, it's the first vehicle to use the third-generation GM EV platform. Cruise won't launch its commercial service in San Francisco with the Origin - that duty falls to modified Chevy Bolts - but Origin will be Ultium-powered when Cruise is ready to set it loose.
