<ul><li>The <keyword id="6354977" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Supreme-Court">Supreme Court</keyword> on Thursday (July 2) adjourned the hearing for CA examination in July and the decision on the opt-out scenario to next week. </li><li>This was after the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (<keyword id="6364696" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ICAI">ICAI</keyword>) appealed to the apex court to allow more time to connect with the exam centres and authorities so as to assess the COVID situation and understand if it's feasible to conduct exams from July 29 onwards. </li><li>As of now, if a student decides to opt out, this attempt (July examination) will not be counted. </li></ul>The Supreme Court on Thursday (July 2) adjourned the hearing for Chartered Accountants’ examination in July and the decision on the opt-out scenario to next week. This was after the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) appealed to the apex court to allow more time to connect with the exam centres and authorities so as to assess the COVID situation and understand if it's feasible to conduct exams from July 29 onwards. The apex court had earlier directed the institute to come up with fresh guidelines — that include the suggestion by the bench — and appear for the hearing on July 2, 2020. The Supreme Court had said that those who were preparing to appear for the July examination but are unable to take the exam should be eligible for the ‘opt-out’ case. “The ICAI counsel may take instructions and file the modified draft notification setting out the changes”, the bench said on June 29. The bench headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar said this during the hearing of a petition filed by the president of India Wide Parents Association Anubha Shrivastava Sahai. The petition sought orders to stay the scheme — which allows those students who applied for the July exam to opt out and appear in the November examination. The petition also appealed to the court for more examination centers. "There are also a limited number of exam centres. Even ICAI says only 232 centres are there. Many students in Bihar have opted for the 15-day long exam in Kolkata which is under lockdown,” Advocate Alok Srivastava <a href="https://www.barandbench.com/news/litigation/ca-exams-be-flexible-you-cannot-be-rigid-supreme-court-tells-icai-to-consider-allowing-students-to-opt-out-even-during-exams">said</a> during the previous hearing. What could happen in the ‘opt-out’ scenario For those who opt-out, the institute said that the examination fee and other expenditure shall automatically be shifted to the next exam cycle in November 2020. However, these students will be required to apply afresh for the exams in November. In that case, this attempt (July examination) will not be counted — the institute decided after multiple requests from students appealed to defer the exams due to the pandemic. As many as 3.46 lakh students are supposed to appear for the July examination. On the other hand, the students who choose to appear in the exam in July will have to undergo mandatory thermal scanning. As per the guidelines by the government, the institute will take social distancing measures, hand sanitisation and mandatory wearing of masks.

ICAI CA final examination results to be announced today: Here’s how you can check your result online

<ul><li>The government scrapped the traditional 10+2 model of education and has introduced a new 5+3+3+4 mode. </li><li>The 5+3+3+4 model of education will also include pre-school in the foundation stage — which was earlier considered a part of informal education. </li><li>Moreover, the new model of education will focus more on providing vocational education and imparting the knowledge of core subjects. </li><li>Even though the new model will have structural changes, the number of years a student spends to study in school remains the same. </li></ul>The Indian government, on July 29, introduced the New Education Policy and announced several major reforms including universalisation of early childhood care education, setting up of a national mission on foundational literacy and numeracy, 5+3+3+4 circular and pedological structure and no rigid separation between arts and sciences. With it, the government scrapped the traditional 10+2 model of education and introduced a new 5+3+3+4 model. Understanding the 5+3+3+4 model As per the new policy, the 10+2 structure of school curricula is to be replaced with a 5+3+3+4 curricular structure corresponding to age groups 3-8 years, 8-11, 11-14 and 14-18 years respectively. <ul><li>Foundation Stage: The first five years will be the foundation stage, including three years of primary education and class 1 and 2. It will also include pre-school in the foundation stage — which was earlier considered a part of informal education.</li><li>Preparatory Stage: The next three years will be the ‘preparatory’ stage. This consists of classes three to five.</li><li>Middle Stage: The next three years — between class six and class eight— will be the ‘middle’ stage.</li><li>Secondary Stage: The last stage will be the ‘secondary’ stage comprising class 9,10,11, and 12. </li></ul>"This will bring the hitherto uncovered age group of 3-6 years under the school curriculum, which has been recognized globally as the crucial stage for the development of mental faculties of a child. The new system will have 12 years of schooling with three years of anganwadi and pre-schooling,” School Education secretary Anita Karwal said while introducing the New Education Policy. Difference between old and new academic model <ol><li>Number of examinations has been reduced: As compared to eight examinations earlier, the new model will conduct only three examinations for grade 3, 5 and 8. </li><li>Vocational Education: the new model of education will focus more on providing vocational education and imparting the knowledge of core subjects.</li><li>Students to leave with one core skill: The Ministry of Education wants every student to leave for higher education with one core skill. Moreover, the students will also get to learn coding and do internships from class 6 onwards.</li><li>No separation between Arts, Commerce and Science: Another difference between the two models is flexibility in learning subjects from a different stream. For years Indian students, under the 10+2 model, had the choice to study three streams — Arts, Commerce and Science. Under the new model, a student can learn any subject he wants to.
