<ul><li>After <keyword id="169284" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ASCI">ASCI</keyword> received 15 complaints against <keyword id="8082634" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="white-hat-jr">White Hat Jr</keyword>, the industry body asked the brand to remove the advertisements immediately. </li><li>ASCI received 15 complaints for 7 advertisements and 5 of these ads were in potential violation. </li></ul>BYJU’s White Hat Jr is the most recent brand to come under <keyword id="382559" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Advertising-Standard-Council-of-India">Advertising Standard Council of India</keyword>’s (ASCI) scrutiny as its ads did not sit well with the consumers. The industry body has asked White Hat Jr to remove five of its ads for making misleading claims on social media. <br /><br />One of its advertisements showcased a 7-year-old girl as a TEDx speaker and app developer. <br /><br />    <div type="image" title="white hat jr ted x speaker" msid="78916846" hostid="261"></div><br />“ASCI has, in total, processed 15 complaints against seven advertisements of White hat Jr. Five of these advertisements were in potential violation of the ASCI code, and the advertiser agreed to immediately withdraw these advertisements when ASCI intervened. One of these advertisements was taken up suo motu by ASCI as well,” tells Manisha Kapoor, Secretary General, ASCI. <br /><br />Rest of the complaints filed by consumers against White Hat Jr’s advertisements were not upheld. However, one of its advertisements could be in potential violation of The Emblems and Name (Prevention of Improper use) Act. The complainant has been asked to approach the government. <br /><br />White Hat Jr was quick to withdraw the ads after ASCI approached it. <br /><br />“In recent times some advertisements of the company have come under scrutiny on social media, and ASCI has been tagged. The ASCI team has connected with the advertiser on these ads, and we are given to understand that some of the advertisements referred to on social media are old and have already been withdrawn. The advertiser also has assured ASCI of their cooperation in adhering to the ASCI code going forward,” says Kapoor. <br /><br />When IPL kicked-off, White Hat Jr went on an ad spree and faced a barrage of trolling. ASCI asks BYJU’s White Hat Jr to withdraw its social ads for making misleading claims

<br /><ul><li><strong>The forced closure of thousands of schools across India and the subsequent shift to <keyword id="6379645" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Online-Education">online education</keyword> is affecting the mental health of children. <br /></strong></li><li><strong>And that’s not the only issue that’s worrying. A large proportion of children do not even have access to online education. <br /></strong></li><li><strong>In India, only 24% of households possess smartphones, while 11.5% of households have a computer with an Internet connection.</strong></li></ul>When schools were first shut temporarily in March as a precautionary step against COVID-19 spread, Navya — a class 9th student from Rajasthan — and many others like her were happy about not going to school, doing homework. For them, the pandemic had advanced their summer holiday, and they were excited about the prospects of extended leave. <br /><br />But this small bubble of happiness burst soon enough, once the nationwide lockdown got extended, and it became a reality that going back to schools won’t be possible anytime soon. <br /><br />This forced closure of thousands of schools across India and the subsequent shift to online education is impacting children’s mental health. <br /><br />“For teachers, the first challenge is to maintain the unwavering attention of a 7 to a 9-year old child on the screen. This is exacerbated by the fact that online classes are a new learning method, implemented in the first term of the academic year. Another challenge is to ensure participation from all students and keep them 'actively' engaged for the entire duration of the virtual class, " said Sudeshna Chatterjee, Director Principal, EuroSchool Airoli. <br /><br /><strong>The pitfalls of virtual classes: Lack of focus, excessive screen time <br /></strong><br />  <div type="image" title="Online Education" msid="77476823" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;In house online studies going on in Bhandup in Mumbai&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />Parents whose children can access online lessons are not pleased with this experience either. The massive increase in screen time is of great concern for parents. It includes not just the time they spend attending <keyword id="2840060" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="virtual-school">virtual school</keyword> sessions, but also the time spent on digital homework as well. Moreover, since there are no physical activities that they can engage in, most of the kids remain glued to the screen all day long for playing video games or watching cartoon shows. <br /><br />“Concentration is a big trouble for young children. Adding to that, most children feel ignored as they feel cut off from a teacher. Teachers, too are, struggling to engage with the children and see them all at once. So there is the issue of teaching becoming a one-sided affair. As homework shifts online, increased screen time is another unwanted side effect,” the mother of a 4-year old child told Business Insider India. <br /><br />The Indian government recently capped the duration and the number of sessions in a day for students — allowing only 30 minutes of online class for pre-primary students, and two online sessions of up to 45 minutes each from standard one to eight. <br /><br /><strong>All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy<br /><br />  <div type="image" title="Whatsapp." msid="77476692" hostid="261"></div></strong><br />Students are complaining about the fatigue and exhaustion of attending these virtual classes. It does not help that the coronavirus induced lockdown and other restrictions imposed by government authorities have curbed the extra-curricular activities that the kids would usually indulge. <br /><br />Being cooped up inside their homes for long periods, and lack of physical activities or inability to play with their friends is taking a toll on mental and physical health. Students are complaining about frequent headaches, eye-related problems, and back pain now more than ever. <br /><br />“The new way of learning is difficult to adapt for the kids, my 10-year-old does things on his own, like logging in and out of the class but he keeps complaining it is not like school, and he misses his friends and physical activity. At times, I do catch him with the camera off, or browsing something else,” Batul Munim, the mother of two boys (ages 6 and 10), told Business Insider India. <br /><br />Munim says his son has had several meltdowns since May-end once the ‘original vacation’ period got over. “Every other sentence would start with: Mom, if we are in school, then this would happen.” She further adds that online lessons have been more challenging for her six-year-old son, who wants to escape after every class. “He is sleepy, hungry, and disinterested, or sometimes it is plain boredom,” she added. <br /><br />“The physical play that students would have when they are in an outdoor system; that thing is not there in a flat system. It is definitely affecting health, and no social interaction is adding more to this. When students go to school, they have recess or lunch breaks to meet people and chat. But in an online class, students cannot chat,” Dr. Geeta Dalal, a ‎Psychologist, Special Educator &amp; Dyslexia Therapist, told Business Insider India. <br /><br />Dalal adds that the current situation is tough because not everyone can sit and study alone, “Man is a social animal, and this COVID-19 (lockdown) has put people in the shell. All the measures that are being taken are valid. But it is also understandable that the frustration levels are high, and this situation is something where parents cannot do anything about it. Everything has become virtual now - from school to play dates.” She believes that this is the only option both children and parents have right now. <br /><br />Thus, it becomes difficult to ensure progress of the child. Regular test, which use to help determine student's growth, are also not adding much value. <br /><br />According to French Professor Jyoti Chhabria, "progressive tests cannot rule out cheating by some students. More than the teachers, parents are struggling to make their kids sit in the class. I really do not feel that these (online) classes are suitable for primary students,” Niti Garg, a working professional, and a mother told Business Insider. <br /><br />But this is  not the only problem that is worrying. Chaos and confusion: All the texts sent to Mark Meadows during the Jan. 6 insurrection

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Kanye West wore with a shirt that said "White Lives Matter"  at his Yeezy fashion show.</li><li>The shirt appears to be a reference to the Black Lives Matter movement.</li></ul><p>Kanye West was seen wearing a shirt with the words "White Lives Matter" splashed across its back at his YZYSZN9 fashion show.</p><p>Videos show West wearing the shirt while <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RR5UYXeft6Y">giving a speech</a> during his brand's show at Paris Fashion Week on Monday. The fashion show showcased his Season 9 collection.</p><p>The shirt appeared to be a reference to the Black Lives Matter movement. According to the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.adl.org/resources/hate-symbol/white-lives-matter">Anti-Defamation League</a>, the phrase has deeply racist connotations and has been <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.splcenter.org/hatewatch/2016/03/18/meet-white-lives-matter-racist-response-black-lives-matter-movement">used as a slogan</a> by white supremacist groups like the Texas-based Aryan Renaissance Society.</p><p>During his mid-fashion show speech, West introduced himself to the audience with his new name, declaring: "I am Ye, and everyone here knows that I am the leader."</p><p>West spoke at length during his speech about how people felt they "have the right" to go up to him and call him "crazy."</p><p>West's shirt wasn't the only controversial part of the evening. At one point, he called out LVMH chief executive officer Bernard Arnault.</p><p>"You can't manage me. This is an unmanageable situation. Dr. Seuss, told a reporter from The San Diego Union-Tribune that most of his stories didn't have serious messages, but were rather "just plain pleasant tommyrot." </p><p>The newspaper described the author at home in La Jolla, California. He was leaning back in his desk chair, discussing whether his newest book, "The Butter Battle Book," was a "children's books for adults or an adult book for children."</p><p>"There are so many leaders who think in a childlike manner, I thought it wouldn't make any difference if it was a children's book or not," Geisel said. </p><p>Dr. Seuss's books have meant a lot to both children and adults in the eight decades since he published his first one. Perhaps that's why, this past week, they became a focal point in an ongoing conversation about so-called cancel culture.</p><p>Political commentators on the right, including Donald Trump Jr. and Senator Ted Cruz, jumped to the defense of Dr. Seuss as six of his books were <a href="https://www.insider.com/dr-seuss-books-no-longer-published-racist-imagery-2021-3">pulled</a> because of offensive or racist imagery. Trump said the move was a clear sign that the "woke mob" had come for the author, who died in 1991.</p><p>"I literally know 'The Cat in the Hat' by heart without the book there because I read it so many times to my children," Trump said on Fox News. Matt Gaetz said: "At what point does our society reach cancel culture herd immunity?" </p><p>But the decision to stop <keyword id="366450" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Publishing">publishing</keyword> the six books came from Dr. Seuss Enterprises, which controls the author's estate, a fact that seemed to get lost in the conversation over so-called cancel culture. </p><p>Dr. Seuss Enterprises said it sought to further the author's mission of "hope, inspiration, inclusion, and friendship," according to <a href="https://www.seussville.com/statement-from-dr-seuss-enterprises/">a statement</a> released Tuesday.</p><p>"Ceasing sales of these books is only part of our commitment and our broader plan to ensure Dr. Seuss Enterprises's catalog represents and supports all communities and families," the company said. </p><p>The six books removed from its catalog were: 'And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street,' 'If I Ran the Zoo,' 'McElligot's Pool,' 'On Beyond Zebra!,' 'Scrambled Eggs Super!,' and 'The Cat's Quizzer.'</p><p>"These books portray people in ways that are hurtful and wrong," the company said. </p><p>According to <a href="https://sophia.stkate.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1050&amp;context=rdylrdyl">researchers,</a> Geisel also published hundreds of racist cartoons and drawings during his career. </p><div type="image" title="Dr. Seuss Book If I Ran a Zoo Out of Print.JPG" height="2425" width="3395" msid="81368947" hostid="261"></div><p>By late afternoon on Friday, about half the books on Amazon's bestseller list were either Dr. Seuss originals or spinoffs by other writers.</p><p>On Thursday, eBay told The Wall Street Journal it was <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/discontinued-dr-seuss-books-with-racist-imagery-removed-by-ebay-2021-3">scrubbing its site</a> of the six pulled books. Late Friday, however, some of the pulled books could still be found for sale.</p><p>A copy of "The Cat's Quizzer" listed on eBay had more than 50 bids, putting its price well about $200. Several copies of "Mulberry Street" were listed at about $150, plus shipping. </p><p>President Joe Biden this week left Dr. Seuss books off his reading list for Read Across America Day. <a href="https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2021/mar/05/facebook-posts/biden-wasnt-involved-dr-seuss-or-mr-potato-head-ch/">The fact-checking site PolitiFact</a> said Biden's decision wasn't connected to the decision made by Dr. Seuss Enterprises. The shift had been years in the making, it added. </p><p>When asked about the omission at the White House, Jen Psaki, press secretary, said: "And as we celebrate the love of reading and uplift diverse and representative authors, it is especially important that we ensure all children can see themselves represented and celebrated in the books that they read." </p><p>On Twitter, Cruz posted a screenshot of Amazon's bestseller list full of Dr. Seuss titles, adding: "Could Biden try to ban my book next?"</p><p>Last week, Ann Coulter, the political commentator and author, focused her attention on "The Butter Battle Book," and called for it to be removed from shelves. </p><p>"If Dr. Seuss's estate is going to pull any of his books, it should be the embarrassing one suggesting that the difference between the USSR and U.S.A was just that we buttered our bread on different sides - published in 1984, as Reagan was winning the Cold War," Coulter wrote on <a href="https://twitter.com/AnnCoulter/status/1367888038207045634">Twitter</a>.</p><p>Back in 1984, when Geisel had just finished "The Butter Battle Book," he told the Tribune reporter that the book was one of his only books to make a political statement. He was against the one-upmanship that had made Americans fear all-out nuclear war with the Soviet Union.</p><p>"It is a departure, but I figure in all kids' books, even the nonsense, the author is saying something," Geisel said at the time. "And he might as well say something important once in awhile."</p><p>So, all in all, the backlash over the company's decision did seem to be behind a <keyword id="6354851" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="retail">retail</keyword> buying frenzy that sent Dr. Seuss books to the top of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/dr-seuss-books-for-sale-amazon-cancel-culture-canceled-racist-2021-3">Amazon's bestsellers charts, </a>particularly as on Telegram, some members of alt-right groups implied they'd ordered Dr. Seuss books because of the controversy, according to screenshots seen by Insider. </p><p>It should be noted, though, that the books that led sales - "The Cat in the Hat," "Oh, the Places You'll Go!," and "Green Eggs and Ham" - weren't the ones that had been pulled by Dr. Seuss Enterprises. </p>

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><ul class="summary-list"><li>President Donald Trump pushed back against claims that the White House or his campaign brought and distributed his signature "Make America Great Again" hats to US troops when he visited Iraq on Christmas.</li><li>Some of the troops were seen with the hats and at least one Trump flag as they waited for the president.</li><li>In a statement to Business Insider, the Air Force denied that the hats had been distributed at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, and said they were "personal items."</li><li><strong>Although service members are encouraged to "to carry out the obligations of citizenship," regulations "prohibits the wearing of a military uniform during or in connection with the furtherance of any political or commercial interests."</strong></li><li><strong>While some veterans on social media accused the service members of engaging in partisan political activities while in uniform, the event may have blurred what is normally a clear distinction between a partisan activity and a purported candid visit from their commander-in-chief.</strong></li></ul><p>President Donald Trump pushed back against claims that the White House brought and distributed his signature "Make America Great Again" campaign hats to US troops when he visited Iraq and Germany on Christmas Day.</p><p>Trump <a href="https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1078431231262502912">accused some news outlets</a> of making that assertion.</p><p>"If these brave young people ask me to sign their hat, I will sign. Can you imagine my saying no?" the president asked, saying that his team did not distribute any hats.</p><p>It was unclear whether CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2018/12/26/politics/iraq-trump-hats-us-troops-maga/index.html?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_term=image&amp;utm_content=2018-12-27T00%3A33%3A02&amp;utm_source=twCNNp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> the hats were distributed by Trump's team on the ground; however, a CNN article updated several hours before Trump's tweet included several denials from press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and military officials.</p><p>The controversy stems from the numerous photos and reports of Trump signing campaign memorabilia for troops in Iraq and Germany. Trump, who was widely criticized for not visiting US troops on or before Christmas, dispelled the notion with his surprise trip with the first lady and senior staffers.</p><p>Trump received some criticism after he was pictured signing the campaign memorabilia, leading some to believe he or his campaign handed out the items for a photo-op. Some of the troops, both officers and non-commissioned officers alike, were seen with hats and at least one Trump flag as they waited for the president to arrive at a aircraft hangar.</p><p>One Air Force captain who held a Trump flag was reportedly ordered to put it aside by an official, but took it back out after the president arrived, <a href="https://www.stripes.com/news/europe/af-says-nothing-was-improper-about-airmen-displaying-pro-trump-merchandise-at-ramstein-1.562274">according to Stars and Stripes</a>.</p><p>In a statement to Business Insider, the Air Force denied that the items were pre-distributed at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, where Trump stopped on his way back to the US: "Photos of the event show personal items; materials were not given to Airmen by the White House."</p><p>Press secretary Sanders also confirmed to CNN that the hats pictured in Iraq were personal goods brought by the service members.</p><p>Service members are encouraged to "to carry out the obligations of citizenship," which could include joining a partisan political club or making monetary contributions to political groups, but <a href="https://www.esd.whs.mil/Portals/54/Documents/DD/issuances/dodd/134410p.pdf">military regulations</a> "prohibits the wearing of a military uniform during or in connection with the furtherance of any political or commercial interests."</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>The latest incident stands in contrast to that of <a href="https://www.stripes.com/army-reservist-who-endorsed-ron-paul-receives-reprimand-1.173096">Spc. Jesse Thorsen</a>, a US Army Reservist who wore his combat uniform and endorsed then-Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul at a campaign rally in 2012.</p><p>Thorsen, who was later reprimanded by the Army, defended his actions and said if "the Army works for Congress ... if a Congressman invites you up on stage, doesn't he have the right to do that?"</p><p>But Trump's other actions during his visit attracted criticism and resurfaced the allegation that he <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/trumps-visit-to-iraq-prompts-concerns-about-politicization-of-military/2018/12/27/42aa20fe-0a13-11e9-892d-3373d7422f60_story.html?utm_term=.3282eea60575">seeks to politicize</a> what is supposed to be an apolitical military.</p><p>During his Christmas Day visits with the troops, Trump revisited his typical rhetoric.</p><p>"The United States cannot continue to be the policeman of the world," Trump said to a crowd of troops in al-Asad Air Base, Iraq.
