In an abrupt move, <keyword id="237838" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="arjun-mohan" source="Orion">Arjun Mohan</keyword>, who was elevated as the embattled edtech firm Byju <keyword id="5645" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ceo" source="Orion">CEO</keyword> just about seven months back, has quit to pursue other opportunities, the company confirmed on Monday. The company's Co-founder and CEO <keyword id="1702989" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="byju-raveendran" source="Orion">Byju Raveendran</keyword> will take a more hands-on approach in spearheading the daily operations of the company after Mohan's resignation, who will be part of the edtech firm in an "external advisory role". The move is aimed at streamlining the operations and positioning the company for "long-term success". "Mohan has done an outstanding job steering Biju's through a challenging period. We are grateful for his leadership and look forward to his continued contributions as a strategic advisor," Raveendran said. The company has now decided to consolidate its business into three "focused" divisions -- The Learning App, Online Classes &amp; Tuition Centres, and Test-prep. Each of these <keyword id="54698" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="units" source="Orion">units</keyword> will have separate leaders who will independently run the businesses sustainably to ensure profitability, said the company. "This reorganisation marks the start of <keyword id="6384897" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="byjus" source="Orion">BYJU'S</keyword> 3.0 -- a leaner and more agile organisation ready to quickly adapt to evolving market dynamics, especially in the realm of hyper-personalised education," according to Raveendran. Facing a severe cash crunch, the edtech company in September last year elevated Mohan as the CEO of its India operations. Mohan succeeded Mrinal Mohit, founding partner and the outgoing head of India business at the company, who embarked on a new journey to pursue personal aspirations. "By focusing on our core strengths with three specialised business units, we will unlock new growth opportunities while continuing to focus on profitability," said Raveendran.

Gaurav <keyword id="6320" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="munjal" source="Orion">Munjal</keyword>, co-founder and CEO of Unacademy, announced the latest layoffs in a <keyword id="1815769" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="slack" source="Orion">Slack</keyword> message to employees, reports <keyword id="179988" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="techcrunch" source="Orion">TechCrunch</keyword>. "We have taken every step in the right decision to make our core business profitable, yet it's not enough. We have to go further, we have to go deeper," Munjal was quoted as saying. "Today's reality is a contrast from two years ago when we saw unprecedented growth because of the accelerated adoption of online learning. Today, the global economy is enduring a recession, funding is scarce and running a profitable business is key. We have to adapt to these changes, build and operate in a much leaner manner so we can truly create value for our users and shareholders," he added. Moreover, in a message to employees, Munjal stated that he takes "complete responsibility for the way things have turned out". In November last year, Unacademy laid off 10 per cent of its workforce or nearly 350 employees, as funding winter deepens for the Indian startup ecosystem. Earlier this year, Unacademy-run Relevel laid off 40 employees, or 20 per cent of its workforce, as it shifts its focus from the education business to "tests product" and a new app called NextLevel. Meanwhile, another edtech major BYJU's has laid off a further 15 per cent of its employees from its engineering teams, as the company continues phased layoffs to remain growth-oriented in a global economic meltdown. Byju's, Unacademy, upGrad and other edtech companies hiring now

Edtech unicorn <keyword id="2900267" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="byju" source="Orion">BYJU</keyword>'s courted further controversy on Tuesday with its employees in Thiruvananthapuram claiming around 170 of them are being forced to resign from the company. The matter, raised on social media by <keyword id="7035516" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="technopark-today" source="Orion">Technopark Today</keyword>, an IT professionals community portal, was escalated by IT welfare organisation '<keyword id="3399247" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="prathidhwani" source="Orion">Prathidhwani</keyword>' to Kerala Labour Minister C. Sivankutty. Employees and Prathidhwani representatives also met the minister on Tuesday. Apart from ensuring that BYJU's does not force employees to resign, they demanded a revision of the company's exit policy for its employees. Along with ensuring payment of their October 2022 salary on November 1, employees are demanding a one-time settlement of three months' salary, earned leave encashment, and full-settlement of variable pay. According to the employees in Thiruvananthapuram numbering around 170, Byju's, with its office located in the <keyword id="6400701" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="technopark" source="Orion">Technopark</keyword>, is planning to wind up its operations in the state headquarters. Sivankutty, in a Facebook post, said: "The employees of BYJU's app from <keyword id="3595624" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="technopark-thiruvananthapuram" source="Orion">Technopark Thiruvananthapuram</keyword> had come to see me. The employees have many grievances, including job loss. The Labour Department will conduct a serious investigation in this regard." With losses of Rs 4,500 crore reported in FY21, BYJU's has been facing tough times in recent times. The company had recently announced cost-cutting measures including paring down manpower. Fearing firing, BYJU's employees in Kerala approach state labour minister

Edtech industry leader Byju's is raising nearly $150 million from <keyword id="2538679" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="UBS-Group-AG">UBS Group AG</keyword>, that will take its market valuation to $16.5 billion, reliable sources said on Thursday. UBS Group AG, part of <keyword id="349466" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="UBS-Asset-Management">UBS Asset Management</keyword>, will invest a total of around $300 million in Byju's, people familiar with the deal told IANS. The leading ed-tech company recently raised nearly $1 billion as part of its 'Series F' funding that included Baron Funds and Facebook cofounder Eduardo Saverin's <keyword id="3472137" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="B-Capital-Group">B Capital Group</keyword>. The latest fund-raising came after Byju's announced to acquire Aakash Educational <keyword id="266374" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Services-Ltd">Services Ltd</keyword> (AESL) through a strategic merger. The deal size is also pegged at close to $1 billion. In September last year, Byju's raised $500 million (approximately ₹3,689 crore) in a funding round led by global technology investment firm Silver Lake.
