In an interview with ANI, Ackermann also informed about the possible visit of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in October this year, during which <keyword id="20766370" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="business-relations" source="keywords">business relations</keyword> and trade relations would be on the agenda. Ackerman noted that migration will also be a key item for discussion. Speaking on the sidelines of the release of the German India Business Outlook 2024 survey, Ackerman said, "The survey has given us an impression that <keyword id="22215345" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="german-business-in-india" source="Orion">German business in India</keyword> is extremely bullish on India. The surveys found that almost 80% of German businesses want to expand their businesses, want to reinvest, build up more factories, and invest more in India." "The German businesses see enormous potential in the Indian market. It sees the very impressive growth rates of India. That makes them very happy. After elections again, they find it a very stable place to invest," the ambassador expressed. Philipp Ackermann termed the long-pending India-EU Free Trade Agreement a "game changer". He mentioned that no specific deadline has been set for signing the Free Trade Agreement, stating that "it will take some time." "There is no deadline because the <keyword id="20000557" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="FTA" source="keywords">FTA</keyword> relationship is very complicated and it has to take time. We have now seen the ninth round, if I'm not mistaken, which just finished a day or two ago. We are in the process of negotiating the German government is very much behind this," he said "We feel that the FTA is very important for our business; it will be even more so if it is a game changer. So I'm very hopeful that at some stage we come to a conclusion, but don't ask me about the timeline. I think it will take some time," he added. When asked what impact the FTA will have on the Indo-German trade relationship, the envoy said that tariffs and taxes are one of the reasons German companies say might impede investment, and with an FTA, the tariff side will be solved. "For many German companies, an FTA will bring a clear solution and regulation on tariffs and trade and it would be a great gift for their business," he added. The proposed trade deal with the EU is one of the most complex FTAs being negotiated by India. There has been no breakthrough despite several rounds of talks. On June 17, 2022, the European Union relaunched negotiations with India for a Free Trade Agreement, and launched separate negotiations for an Investment Protection Agreement and an Agreement on Geographical Indications (GIs). The mandator also gave details about the possible visit of German chancellor Olaf Scholz, saying the chancellor will travel to Delhi and parts of his cabinet, including the German ministers, will accompany him and sit down with their Indian counterparts to develop coming programmes and projects and the roadmap. "So we expect that to happen in the second half of October sometime. The dates have not been finalised yet. But it is a very, very good moment to sit down, compare notes, and say, Where is this apprenticeship going?" he added. "We will try to develop the future of this partnership during these consultations. Other items on the agenda are certainly business relations and trade relations, but also migration, which is a very interesting issue within and certainly does politics as usual," he said.

Navtez Bal to lead Microsoft's public sector business in India

New Delhi, Jan 21 () Zomato on Tuesday said it has acquired the Indian business of Uber Eats in an all-stock deal that will give Uber 9.99 per cent stake in the Indian food delivery and restaurant discovery platform.
Uber Eats in India will discontinue operations and direct restaurants, delivery partners, and users of the Uber Eats apps to the Zomato platform, effective Tuesday, a statement said.
In a regulatory filing to BSE, Info Edge (India) - a shareholder in Zomato - said its shareholding in Zomato will stand reduced to about 22.71 per cent on fully converted and diluted basis upon closing of the transaction.
The deal comes days after Zomato had raised USD 150 million in funding from existing investor Ant Financial, an Alibaba affiliate, at a USD 3 billion valuation. 
"We are proud to have pioneered restaurant discovery and to have created a leading food delivery business across more than 500 cities in India. This acquisition significantly strengthens our position in the category," Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal said.
Uber Eats, which entered India in 2017, has about 26,000 restuarants listed on its platform from 41 cities.
Zomato's restaurant discovery and food delivery platform has information for over 1.5 million restaurants across 24 countries and serves more than 70 million users every month.
Discussions between Zomato and Uber have been on for months. Facing stiff competition from Zomato and Swiggy, Uber Eats had been making losses.
Uber had projected an operating loss of Rs 2,197 crore in its food delivery business for the five months through December 2019, according to a valuation report prepared by KPMG affiliate BSR and was part of regulatory filings.
According to sources, Uber Eats India business contributed three per cent of the global gross bookings but accounted for over 25 per cent of adjusted EBIDTA losses for the first three quarters of 2019.
With the sale of the food business in India, Uber can now focus on the rides business and driving it towards profitability, one of the persons said.
"India remains an exceptionally important market to Uber and we will continue to invest in growing our local Rides business, which is already the clear category leader. We have been very impressed by Zomato's ability to grow rapidly in a capital-efficient manner and we wish them continued success," Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, said in the statement. SR RUP

Zomato acquires Uber Eats business in India

<keyword id="1388180" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Shell-PLC">Shell Plc</keyword> is mulling to re-enter the upstream business in India, if the government offers a stable policy and open acreage licence to explorers. 
 
The Royal Dutch Shell Plc’s re-entry may boost India’s oil and gas production, which has been stagnant for years. 
 
"We would continue to look at upstream opportunities in India," Harry Brekelmans, projects &amp; technology director and a member of the top executive committee at Shell, told Economic Times, adding, “at the moment, we have not been able to see anything that is attractive enough and will continue to look at how policies develop.” 
 
India’s oil and gas production has been stagnant for years, forcing the country to import nearly 80% of its crude oil requirement. Many power plants are idle or underutilised and the government is making all efforts to lure foreign investors to develop its hydrocarbon reserves. 
 
ET reported that the government is working on a new oil and gas exploration policy that will replace the 16-year-old New Exploration Licensing Policy (NELP), which has guided nine rounds of auction so far. 
 
"We are quite interested in the new policy which suggests that the open acreage licence OLAP (may be offered) and we think that may give us a different opportunity to look," Yasmine Hilton, chairman of Shell Companies in India, told ET. 
 
ET further reported that Shell has no particular preference for the fiscal regime to be followed in exploration and production as the company works across the globe under different contractual terms. 
 
"We can work in any regime as long as there is stability in that regime. Once you enter an agreement, it's a long-term agreement, so you need stability across that, we don't want change over that period," Hilton added. 
 
Shell is bullish on India's gas market and is looking to expand its capacity at Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal in Hazira, Gujarat. 
 
"We are currently in discussions to expand that further, that's subject to the joint venture itself but we are clearly keen and supportive of these plans," Brekelmans told 
ET. The company also has plans to set up a floating LNG terminal at Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.

The study, titled ‘The Information Generation: Transforming The Future’, was conducted by EMC Corporation, an organization that is enabling businesses and service providers to transform their operations and deliver IT as a service. 
 
This study further reveals that by 2020 more than seven billion people on at least 30 billion devices will have created 44 
zettabytes of data, which suggests that we are heading to the world in which nearly every element of life will be data-driven. 
 
While businesses know they can get value from this data, 49% global business leaders admit that they don’t know how to turn all of their data into actionable information. 
 
The study brings to light some interesting facts: majority of Indian businesses think they are aware of the importance of predictively spotting new opportunities to get ready for the ‘Information Generation’; and majority of the leaders in India cite the need to innovate in an agile way as the top priority, just after China. But are their claims valid? 
 
The research done by EMC suggests otherwise; it shows wide gap in the number of organizations doing this extremely well and organization-wide. To overcome this problem, Indian organizations should continually re-condition themselves in ways that are yet to be imagined, says Rajesh Janey, President, India &amp; SAARC, EMC. 
 He further adds, “The Information Generation is changing the dynamics of the environment in which organizations operate today as they increasingly face the demand for more. The new generation of businesses especially the ones ‘born of the cloud’ are driving this change in expectations, thereby making it critical for businesses to redefine themselves in order to adapt and remain relevant. While 76% of <keyword id="1508997" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="businesses-in-India">businesses in India</keyword> think that SMAC has changed consumer expectations, it becomes critical that they systematically explore the longer-term implications of an age in which information is at the centre of everything we do.” 
 
The Information Generation: Transforming The Future study was conducted by Institute for the Future and Vanson Bourne on behalf of EMC. Vanson Bourne surveyed 3,600 business leaders across 18 countries from mid-size to large enterprises in nine industries to determine top business imperatives required for success today and over the next decade.

These 5 attributes have the power to make-or-break Indian businesses

Multiple fold growth over the last few decades has spurred the aspirations of businesses owned and run by families in India. The next generation is being inducted into the business as a natural succession. But, on one hand when older generations tend to focus on core functions that can improve efficiency and reduce cost, the next gen likes to focus on strategy and brand building. 
 
The growth has brought business to a different stage where what worked earlier may not work anymore. Perspectives have changed, customers have evolved, competition has taken a new shape and fresh talent is in demand. How important are these stages? How do we come to terms with realities and take realistic and relevant decisions? 
 
 
 
Family Business Evolution Stages 
 
The stages of growth in a family business are reasonably well understood. However, taking a generic view of growth may become misleading for an organization. 
 
To move from the Setup and Inception stage to a stage of functioning 
Survival, organizations require investment with a sole focus on breaking even in the business. It is an owner dependent stage. 
 
The first challenge is to move from a few-people organization to a company with a larger employee and customer base. It is a people and relationships dependent stage. 
 
The Success stage is a transformational stage when organizations make a choice to move with bold bets or steady growth. The most dramatic shift in a business run by families takes place at this stage. External professionals at senior levels are sought to drive expertise, processes and productivity. Invariably, due to lack of systems and processes, attracting talent becomes a challenge. Those who do join are viewed with skepticism and are expected to produce quick results increasing the chances of failure. The next gen entry into the business at this stage has its own challenges. Their need to establish themselves is very high and they prefer taking the business to the next level quickly. The next gen’s ability to prevail with a wider worldview and capability drives the organization to become more process and expertise-driven. 
 
The Take-off stage is an expansion stage. With systems, processes, capabilities and financial sustainability, diversification and investment into newer adjacent businesses seem the logical next step. This is the stage of a professional, dependent organization. 
 
After the take-off stage, the scale and size of operations demand streamlining and synergy. This is the Resource Maturity stage where the ownership and management may even become independent making the top leadership responsible for the capability and expertise in managing the complexities of the business. 
 
At the “Global Corporation” stage, the scale and challenges of operations evolve organizations into transnational corporations governed by shareholders and a board managed by a global talent pool. This effectively means that a professional board where the management may or may not have any family members involved runs the business. 
 
 
 
Perspectives and Mindsets at Different Organization Evolution Stages 
 
The mindsets are critical pointers to the perspectives and decision-making in various growth stages of an organization. 
 
Personal investment de-risking mindset: This is a personal investment stage so the mindset is geared towards de-risking the personal investments. 
 
Commercial mindset: This is a relationship-driven stage with a significant dependence on individual relationships where the owner is at the center of these relationships. 
 
Transformational mindset: Success stage of growth is focused on high productivity and efficiency. Focus is to create a virtuous cycle of satisfied customers, interested investors and employees keen to work with the organization. 
 
Expansion mindset: While the local markets have opened up, Indian companies have geared up to take on global markets, acquiring companies in developed economies. There are examples where sound financial and business synergy logic have led to acquisitions, but there was not enough management bandwidth to ensure integration. M&amp;M, Apollo Tyres, Wipro, HCL, Avantha Group, etc. have succeeded in expanding through acquisitions. 
 
Empowering mindset: Mature and successful companies are able to provide empowerment to customers, suppliers and employees. The owner leads the organization, which is governed more by principles, strategies, processes and policies. 
 
Global mindset: Sustainability of the business, society and planet becomes pronounced in this stage of an organization. 
 
Understanding and Assimilating the Differences 
 
The above mindsets exist in some form in all organizations and even though there is always a predominant mindset that drives decision-making, it does not mean that these mindsets are mutually exclusive. Knowing the mindsets and actively allowing the next stage mindset to germinate either through next generation family or external professionals is what may be required. A deeper understanding of the organizational stage and related cultural realities can help family businesses to take the right decisions. This may also help the different generations of family businesses appreciate the perspectives of older or newer generation in the context of prevailing mindset!

Business Insider India’s Future of Work Summit 2023: Meet the speakers

Union Minister <keyword id="197418" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dharmendra-Pradhan">Dharmendra Pradhan</keyword> has promised a "transparent regulatory regime" for greater ease in doing business with India. He said so while attending a road show in Houston, Texas to promote the auction of 46 discovered oil and gas fields. 
 These fields, which were discovered by <keyword id="769942" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Oil-And-Natural-Gas-Corporation-Ltd">Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd</keyword> (<keyword id="6354737" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="ONGC">ONGC</keyword>) and <keyword id="111992" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Oil-India-Ltd">Oil India LTD</keyword> (OIL), are predicted to be put on production through speedy efforts. 
 The road show was attended by several global oil-related companies, including Magna Energy, BP, IHS Energy, Texas Oil &amp; Gas Technology, Nabors, McDermott, Reliance Exploration and Production DMCC, <keyword id="50041" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="KPMG">KPMG</keyword>, Halliburton, Joshi Technologies International, Vega Energy, and Schlumberger. For all details of these oil and gas fields to be made available to the interested parties, the road show had extensive and detailed presentations and one-on-one meetings with the companies. 
 Some companies, like BG, <keyword id="128650" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cairn-Energy">Cairn Energy</keyword>, ONGC, and RIL also shared their happy experiences when they worked in the Indian exploration and production (E&amp;P) sector. 
 
The minister, in this moment of glory, promised a "transparent regulatory regime" and greater ease of doing business, adding that "We recognise that the need of the hour is to increase the domestic energy production by unlocking India's hydrocarbon potential." 
 
The current round of bidding round is also being held under a revised set of guidelines which are industry friendly; the Discovered Small Fields Policy is also acting as the regulatory framework. 
 
The round is seeing potential investors being offered 67 fields in 46 contract areas, across 9 sedimentary basins, through International Competitive Bidding in the oil and gas producing basins. 
 
36 of these fields are located in offshore areas, while the rest 31 are in on land basins. These fields, together, have an estimated 625 Million barrels of Oil and Oil Equivalent Gas in-place volumes, while being spread over 1500 square kilometers. 
 The show turned out to be a hit, with the hall full of attendees, including heads of major energy companies, think tanks, analysts, Indian Americans with interest, oil lobbyist, diplomats and various technologists. Pradhan took this opportunity to assure all possible support from his Ministry and the <keyword id="6377129" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Government-Of-India">Government of India</keyword> so that investors’ endeavours can reach good results. 
 
"The bid timelines are stringent and my team is geared to ensure a smooth process. I look forward to an encouraging participation in the bidding from you all. We have also setup a facilitation cell for assisting you throughout the bid process," he said amidst a thunderous applause.

Doing business with India to be made easier, promises Dharmendra Pradhan

World's second-largest <keyword id="6354776" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Telecom">telecom</keyword> firm <keyword id="15492" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vodafone">Vodafone</keyword>, which has tax-related issues in India, has said it is difficult for foreign companies to do business in the country due to red-tapism. 
 
Vodafone India head Marten Pieters said the company had sought government's permission in December last year to fetch funds from the parent company to buy airwaves but it has still not got the clearance. 
 "Yes, it is difficult to do business in India, that's the general perception I think of foreign companies and that is not just in telecom," Pieters said at <keyword id="1649581" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Economist-India-Summit">Economist India Summit</keyword> in New Delhi. 
 
However, he further added that the process for doing business in India "can be made much easier, much smoother by just removing a few things." 
 
Talking about the spectrum auctions due in February next year, Pieters said, "I have no answer, I got to know last week that the officer dealing with the file has retired." 
 
"The telecom industry, if you look at it from international perspective is a mess in India ... and it seems to come from this concept which has been developed in the past that the more competition, the better," he added.
