Indian Railways website would soon allow passengers to be able to order burgers and pizzas of their choice, which is a step up from the normal sandwiches and thalis. 
 
The burgers and pizzas would be delivered right to the passengers’ coaches, while for last-minute purchases, there would be vendor boys waiting on platforms with ready-to-serve burgers and pizzas. 
 
In order to tap the segment of train passengers, leading quick service restaurants (QSR) such as Domino's Pizza, Burger King, Subway, KFC and Pizza Hut are opening up their stores at railway stations, from where it would be easy to deliver their services to the 23 million passengers who travel via 12,000 trains every day. 
 
Bids have been called from food services companies for setting up food courts at Indian stations. "With the rapid growth of passenger traffic and growing disposable income, brands cannot choose to ignore this segment for too long," said Gaurav Dewan, COO of Travel Food Services, one of the bidders. 
 
The food courts set up on these railway stations would keep both international and national brands, so that passengers have more options. 
 
Some of these fast-food chains have gone a step ahead and made special menus for these railway stations. For example, Domino's has developed a gas-fired oven so that it can work without electricity; it would be able to make pizzas in three minutes without compromising on taste and texture. 
 
Experts, however, feel that these restaurants may face major challenges in terms of pricing and timely orders.

Step up from sandwiches and thalis; now order pizzas and burgers on trains

New Delhi, The Railways introduced 153 services in 2019-20 as compared to 266 services in 2018-19, which included modern semi-high speed trains like Vande Bharat, <keyword id="3691811" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="tejas-express">Tejas Express</keyword> and UDAY (Utkrisht Double-Decker Air-conditioned Yatri) Express trains, Parliament was informed on Friday. In a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha, <keyword id="6356740" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="RAILWAY">Railway</keyword> Minister <keyword id="6355222" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="piyush-goyal">Piyush Goyal</keyword> said: "To facilitate passengers, Indian Railways, during the period 2018-19 and 2019-20, railways introduced new 153 and 266 services respectively." He said that introducing new services is a continual endeavour of the national transporter to upgrade train services and to provide improved facilities to the passengers. "Indian Railways have introduced premium services like <keyword id="7263559" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vande-Bharat-Express">Vande Bharat Express</keyword>, Humsafar, Tejas, Antyodaya, UDAY, to provide better travelling experience to the passengers," he said, adding that state-of-art Vande Bharat Express services have been introduced on <keyword id="3931882" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-delhi-varanasi">New Delhi-Varanasi</keyword> and New Delhi-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra sectors. "These trains have ultra modern features like quick acceleration, on board infotainment and Global Positioning System (GPS) based passenger information system, automatic sliding doors, retractable footsteps and zero discharge vacuum bio toilets etc," he said. Goyal said that a total of four pairs of Tejas Express services have been introduced. "Two of these -- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-Karmali Tejas Express and Chennai Egmore-Madurai Jn Tejas Express are being run by Indian Railways, while the other two Tejas trains namely, Lucknow-New Delhi Tejas Express and Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Tejas Express are operated by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (<keyword id="65866" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IRCTC">IRCTC</keyword>)," he said. Similarly, two pairs of <keyword id="3691812" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="uday-express">UDAY Express</keyword> have been operationalised -- Bangalore City - Coimbatore UDAY Express and Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada UDAY Express. He said that other premium services like Humsafar, Tejas, Antyodaya, UDAY, Mahamana and coaches like Deen Dayalu and Anubhuti, which have upgraded interiors or exteriors and improved passenger amenities, have been introduced in various train services. He further said that the railways is manufacturing only Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches, which are technologically superior and have better riding, aesthetics and safety features than conventional Integral Coach Factory (ICF) type coaches. "Production Units of railways have stopped the manufacturing of ICF type coaches and are manufacturing only LHB coaches from the year 2018-19 onwards," he said. Goyal also said that vistadome coaches provide panoramic view, through wider body side windows as well as through transparent sections in the roof, thus enabling the passengers to enjoy the scenic beauty of the places through which they travel. "Recently, vistadome coaches on LHB platform have been manufactured with several modern features or amenities," he said. He said that under Project Utkrisht, which was launched in April 2018 to improve the condition of ICF type coaches running in Mail or Express trains, railways has upgraded 447 rakes of Mail or Express trains till December 2020. Similarly, under Project Swarn, 65 rakes of Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains have been upgraded across multiple dimensions, which include coach interiors, toilets, onboard cleanliness, staff behaviour, linen, etc. The Minister said that 63 smart coaches with ultra modern features like smart public address and passenger information system, Smart HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning system), Smart security and surveillance system etc. have been manufactured and introduced. He said that conversion of end-on-generation (EOG) trains into Head-On-Generation (HOG) trains is om to reduce noise and air pollution at stations and in trains. It is expected to significantly reduce the consumption of fossil fuels, he added. Railways launched 153 new train services in 2019-20, says Railway Minister

<ul><li>From jewellery maker, Kalyan Jewellers to an Indian Government’s “Miniratna” RailTel Corporation, a whole range of companies are looking to get listed on Indian stock exchanges this year. </li><li>According to Geojit Financial Services, as many as 80 companies have approached SEBI to tap the primary market. </li><li>These are likely IPO candidates that may list this year. </li></ul>The IPO market seems to be piping hot in 2020 compared to the same time last year. Despite the pandemic and the economic slowdown, <a href="https://www.chittorgarh.com/ipo/ipo_list.asp?a=mainline">IPOs worth ₹179.8 billion</a> have already hit the market in the past ten months compared to ₹126.87 billion worth IPO in 2019. And as many as 80 companies have approached SEBI in the current fiscal year to get the necessary approvals for IPOs, according to Geojit Financial Services. The recent IPO bonanza made a lot of money for investors. Jyoti Roy, equity strategist at Angel Broking believes that is because “the investors have been willing to invest in companies with good businesses and reasonable valuations.” <div type="image" title="IPO data" msid="78634632" hostid="261"></div> The IPO bonanza may not have ended yet. From jewellery maker, Kalyan Jewellers to an Indian Government’s “Miniratna” RailTel Corporation, a whole range of companies are looking to get listed on Indian stock exchanges this year. Let’s take a look at some of the upcoming IPOs scheduled this year: Equitas Small Finance Bank The Chennai-based microfinance lender, Equitas Small Finance Bank (SFB), is looking to raise ₹532 crore from the IPO. The initial public offering will open on October 20 and will remain open till October 22. The company has appointed JM Financial, Edelweiss Financial Services, and IIFL Securities as its book running lead managers to the issue. RailTel’s ₹700 crore initial public offering The state-owned RailTel Corporation has filed a Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) with the market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for an initial public offer of up to 8.66 crore equity shares. The company is likely to raise ₹700 crore through the IPO, a complete offer for sale by the Central government. It has appointed ICICI Securities, IDBI Capital, SBI Capital Markets as the book running lead managers to the issue. ESAF Small Finance Bank The Kerala-based ESAF Small Finance Bank had filed DRHP in January and subsequently got the approval from SEBI at the end of March. However, the bank delayed its initial public offering due to the volatile market conditions and said it would take a call on ₹976-crore initial public offering (IPO) after September. The ₹976-crore IPO of ESAF Small Finance Bank will comprise a fresh issue worth ₹800 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) aggregating up to ₹176.2 crore. Kalyan Jewellers Kerala based Jewellery maker, Kalyan Jewellers, is also expected to launch a ₹1,750 crore initial public offering (IPO) in <a href="http://www.marketsguruji.com/upcoming-ipos-in-india/">November</a>. The ₹1,750 crore IPO will be the largest in its sector. The issue will consist of a fresh fundraise of ₹1,000 crore and offer of sale by promoter TS Kalyanaraman and private equity firm Warburg Pincus of ₹750 crore. Burger King One of India'sIndia's fastest-growing food chains, Burger King, is also in line to raise as much as ₹1,000 crore by initial public offering. The firm aims to utilise the funds to double the number of restaurants by 2025, where it currently operates 216 in India, as per its DRHP. Burger King IPO is also likely to hit the market in November this year. Bajaj Energy The ₹5,450 crore IPO of Uttar Pradesh-based, one of the largest private-sector thermal generation companies, Bajaj Energy, is expected to hit the market by the end of this year. The IPO comprises fresh issuance of shares aggregating up to ₹5,150 crore and an offer for sale of scrips up to ₹300 crore by the promoter Bajaj Power Ventures, according to its DRHP. Some of the companies coming up with IPOs include MilkBasket, Lodha Developers, Anand Rathi Wealth Management, Barbeque Nation, NSE, Indian Railways Finance Corporation, among others. <ul><li><keyword id="351018" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mrs-Bector">Mrs Bector</keyword>’s Food shares debuted on the bourses today at a premium of over 73%. </li><li>An investment of ₹14,400 in the company is now worth almost ₹30,000 – more than doubling investor wealth on listing day. </li><li>Mrs Bector’s is a premium biscuit-maker and counts McDonald’s, Indian Railways as well as government canteens amongst its clients. </li></ul>Mrs Bector’s Food Specialties had a record-breaking initial public offering (IPO), receiving subscriptions worth ₹40,000 crore for an offer of ₹540 crore. That has translated into a bumper listing as 2020 draws to an end. The shares of Mrs Bector’s opened at ₹500 - a 73% premium over the issue price of ₹288 per share. At 10:00 am, Mrs Bector’s share price was hovering around ₹590 - more than double the issue price. If you received allotment, your investment of ₹14,400 in 50 shares is now worth almost ₹30,000. This was the second initial public offer this month to have received an overwhelming response – the first one being Burger King India, which is one of its clients. The Mrs Bector’s IPO garnered 198 times subscription. What’s Mrs Bector’s business all about? Mrs Bector’s is a premium biscuit-maker and leading supplier of buns to fast-food chains like McDonald’s, the Indian Railways as well as government canteens. The legend goes that company’s flagship brand "Mrs Bector's Cremica" was born out of the Hindi phrase “cream ka” (made of cream) when Rajni used to sell ice creams. Her recipes became so popular that the initial investment of ₹20,000 is today a ₹1,000-crore business spanning countries. “Today as you know, we are one of the leading brands in biscuits and bakery business in North India, and we have established this brand from scratch. We hold a 4.5% market share in North India. We export 12% of the total biscuit exports from India,” <keyword id="349439" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Anoop-Bector">Anoop Bector</keyword>, Rajni’s son and the Managing Director of the company told Business Insider in an interview. What are the analysts saying? According to Angel Broking, Mrs Bector’s Foods IPO was priced at a significant discount compared to Britannia Industries, Nestle India, Prataap Snacks and DFM Foods — and given the significant discount compared to listed peers there is “comfort” on the valuation. Mrs Bector’s price-to-earnings ratio is also on the lower side compared to its competitors. According to analysts at Angel Broking, for Mrs Bector’s Foods, an investor is willing to pay ₹27.9 now for every rupee earned in profit a year down the line. And that is too small a price to pay, according to Angel Broking, and therefore the stock price is likely to gain as the fears recede. The proceeds from the IPO will be used by the company to finance a new production line of biscuits at its Rajpura facility in Punjab. We ordered some mock tails from the menu and a plate of beer battered fish as starters. Let’s reveal you in the beginning, the service is slow. It’s really slow! And there’s not much method to it. We thought of trying some chef’s special but he was nowhere to be seen, though we asked for him a multiple times. You would need to decide for yourself because the attendants lack knowledge about the cuisine and have nothing much to share. The beer batter fish arrived almost half an hour later. The tanginess or hint of beer was lacking. Beer battered food is quite common in Delhi and there is no way you could go wrong. But they managed to. The waiters lack proper expertise and courtesy. So you may require to request for a fork, a knife, a spoon each time you can trace them. We find it here</a> On asked for ketchup, the waiter simply put a whole bottle of ketchup on the table and disappeared. We thought of sampling a wood fired pizza, which the place takes credit for. Unfortunately the pizza on arrival was found to be overbaked to the level where the crispiness has up. We could feel a burnt aftertaste on our first few bites. The cheese was good. When the waiters were asked about the kind of cheese in pizza, they couldn’t respond after much consultation among each other. For main course, we ordered a lamb burger with barbecue sauce and fish &amp; chips. The menu is too limited and there’s not much to try. We thought of these two as there is no way you can go wrong in making two of these dishes. Fish &amp; chips and lamb burgers are like making an Indian chicken, which should anyways taste good. The basa seemed like the Vietnamese one but the crispiness was nowhere. Basic thumb rule for fish and chips is crispy outside and fluffy inside and the chef seemed to have reversed the rule. The waiters wouldn’t serve it on your plate. Though the plates were heaved with leftovers of the pizza, the waiters didn’t bother to change unless we insisted. The lamb burger was worst than a <keyword id="6517640" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="QSR">QSR</keyword>. Why would someone pay Rs 755 for a burger that’s not juicy and tender! Well, searching for the answer to this question we left the place. We didn’t have the guts to ask for dessert as those didn’t look very promising. At a time when five stars are experimenting with their food and making the chef the hero of the place, hiding the creator and keeping a limited menu won’t help the place get quality customers. Making money with pool parties is one thing, but building a relationship like Radisson, Sarovars and Crowne Plazas would need some extra level of creativity.

Royal Brewery Bistro at Janpath has the blandest food ever!

Good news for food lovers! Passengers on board can now order their meals from some of the popular fast-food chains in the country. After <keyword id="158137" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Domino">Domino</keyword>'s, American fast food giant Yum Foods’ chain, Kentucky Fried Chicken (<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/KFC-food-samples-contain-harmful-bacteria-Govt-report/articleshow/47829313.cms">KFC</a>), has entered into an agreement with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Getting-Tatkal-tickets-on-IRCTC-would-no-longer-be-a-tough-fight-this-summer-Heres-why/articleshow/47555632.cms">IRCTC</a>) to serve consumers on <keyword id="6360847" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Trains">trains</keyword>. 
 
Currently, passengers can avail the service on 12 trains passing through New Delhi railway station and will be expanded to Vishakhapatnam, Hyderabad (Kacheguda) and Bangalore (Yeshwantpur) stations over the next 10 days, reported TOI. 
 The service will initially be limited to trains, which lack pantry cars and subsequently be expanded to trains such as, the Rajdhani and Duronto. Passengers will have to visit the <keyword id="65866" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="IRCTC">IRCTC</keyword> website or call a toll free number to place their orders. "It's still early days and we will take time to scale up," Dhruv Kaul, CMO at <keyword id="6376241" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="KFC">KFC</keyword> India told TOI. "The sheer number of people that travel by train is an interesting proposition for us." 
 
The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Indian-Railways-is-getting-a-makeover-Know-how/articleshow/47673889.cms">Indian Railways</a> operates around 12,500 passenger trains every day with nearly 1.3 crore passengers. In contrast, the largest burger chain in the country, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/McDonalds-goes-healthy-Now-heres-a-first-for-the-junk-food-giant/articleshow/47158676.cms">McDonald's</a>, serves 32 lakh consumers annually. 
 
Despite the potential, the logistics of train delivery — late trains and crowded platforms — is something that fast-food chains are still working on. 
 
Domino's has started its train deliveries in February. The pizza maker has expanded its service to around 200 trains and has managed to sell only around 350 pizzas. "The operations have to be worked on. But we are used to entering new areas," said Kaul.
