Demand For CCTV And Allied Security Devices Went Up In India By Over 115%, New Delhi Leading The Surge [Infographic]

The incident took place at around 11.30 pm on Tuesday when five unidentified people opened fire at Harpreet Gill (36) and his relative Govind Singh (32) in Subhash Vihar. <br /><br />Shot in the head, Gill was pronounced brought dead by doctors at the Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, while his relative was under treatment, police said. <br /><br />Gill was a resident of Bhajanpura and worked as a senior manager with Amazon. The bullet entered from the right side of his head behind the ear and exited from the other side, Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey said. <br /><br />Singh lives in Bhajanpura too and owns an eatery in the area. He was also shot in the head and admitted to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, the DCP said. <br /><br />The duo was on a motorcycle when the assailants on a scooter and a motorcycle intercepted and opened fire at them, Tirkey said. <br /><br />Footage from CCTV cameras of the area is being analysed to identify the attackers, police said, adding that the reason behind the firing is being ascertained. <br /><br />A case of murder has been registered, police said. <br /><br />According to the police, six teams have been formed to work on the case. <br /><br />A preliminary probe has suggested that an argument broke out between the two sides before the shooting took place, police said. <br /><br />Singh told police that the assailants appeared to be in the age group of 18 to 19 years. <br /><br />During the investigation conducted so far, the name of a local criminal, Maya, has cropped up and he is one of the suspects, police said. <br /><br />Meanwhile, Gill's parents demanded justice for their son and strict action against his killers. <br /><br />"At around 10.30 pm on Tuesday, Harpreet told his mother that he was going out and would have dinner later. My brother-in-law was also with him when the incident took place," Karnail Singh, the father of the deceased, said. <br /><br />"My son had no enmity with anyone. He was a very hardworking man. I want my son back. We want justice for him," his mother said.

Amazon senior manager shot dead in Delhi

The June 17 violence at Secunderabad <keyword id="6356740" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="railway" source="Orion">railway</keyword> station was pre-planned and the owners of coaching centres played a key role by instigating the youth, investigations by the railway police revealed.<br /><br />The youth, who indulged in violence, had reached <keyword id="6354552" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="hyderabad" source="Orion">Hyderabad</keyword> from different parts of Telangana a day before and came with bottles filled with petrol.<br /><br />CCTV footage at the station also shows that they conducted recce before creating the mayhem. An official said the protesters entered the station from three sides. While 300 youths went on rampage, over 1,500 protesters later joined to support them.<br /><br />According to the Government Railway Police (<keyword id="6355422" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="grp" source="Orion">GRP</keyword>), coaching centres, which train youngsters aspiring for army jawan jobs, played a role in instigating the violence<br /><br />About 2,000 aspirants from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh had cleared the physical test and were awaiting the written test to be conducted. However, the written test was postponed six times due to various reasons, including the Covid-19 pandemic. After the Centre announced the Agnipath scheme on June 14 and the written exam was cancelled, the aspirants were agitated.<br /><br />They approached the coaching institutes which cited anti-Agnipath protests at a railway station in Bihar, where a train was burnt, and said that if something similar was done here, it would draw the attention of the Central government, said Superintendent of Police GRP-Secunderabad, B. Anuradha.<br /><br /><keyword id="14237465" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="avula-subba-rao" source="Orion">Avula Subba Rao</keyword>, an ex-serviceman, who runs a training academy in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, has been detained in Andhra Pradesh for his suspected role in provoking youth.<br /><br />Anuradha said owners of many other such coaching centres are now being identified. The protesters were mobilised through WhatsApp groups created on June 16.<br /><br />Messages were circulated on the groups that only Central government property is to be attacked, mainly railway stations. Railway Station Block, Hakimpet Army Soldiers, Chalo Secunderabad ARO 3, Indian Army, Army GD 2021 March rally, CEC Soldiers and Soldiers To Die were the names of the WhatsApp groups created.<br /><br />She said 46 persons have been arrested so far and the investigations were on to identify and arrest others who indulged in violence.<br /><br />The Railway police booked the accused under sections 150, 151, and 152 of the Indian Railway Act, and other laws. The official pointed out that conviction under section 150 could lead to life imprisonment.<br /><br />The youth who have been booked will be ineligible to get a job in the army or in the government sector.<br /><br />Anuradha said that it was a surprise attack. Protesters, who held an unlawful assembly, were armed with sticks and petrol. After entering the station, they started damaging CCTV cameras and display boards and then torched railway coaches and other property.<br /><br />The official confirmed that it was the <keyword id="54832" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="railway-protection-force" source="Orion">Railway Protection Force</keyword> that opened fire to control the situation. Coaching centres instigated Agnipath violence at Secunderabad station, says police probe

A third caller says the man does not have a gun but is threatening people in the store.</p><p>The video then cuts to CCTV footage from inside the store and to police body-camera footage.</p><p>In the footage, officers can be seen entering the store with guns drawn. As they search the store, an officer shouts "Victim down!" after finding a bloodied woman near Elena-Lopez. "She's bleeding!" another officer shouts.</p><p>Seconds later, an officer fires three times at Elena-Lopez.</p><p>Authorities said they believe a stray bullet hit Orellana-Peralta.</p><p>The police said they discovered Orellana-Peralta and her mother in a dressing room behind where the officer shot Elena-Lopez.</p><p>"Preliminarily, it is believed the victim was struck by a round which skipped off the floor and entered the dressing room wall," the video says.</p><p>The LAPD did not immediately respond to Insider's requests for comment.</p><p>Capt. Stacy Spell has said the investigation could take up to a year.</p><p>"This chaotic incident resulting in the death of an innocent child is tragic and devastating for everyone involved," Police Chief Michel Moore said in a statement after the shooting. A police bullet also struck Valentina.</p><p>Jones, the 42-year-old Black police officer who shot Orellana-Peralta, is now <a href="https://www.insider.com/lapd-officer-who-shot-14-year-old-girl-started-nonprofit-called-officers-for-change-2021-12">on paid leave</a>.</p><p>After the shooting, LAPD Chief Michel R. Moore expressed condolences and said the department was committed to a "thorough, complete and transparent investigation," calling for, "the release of the critical incident video by Monday, December 27th, which will include the 9-1-1 calls, radio transmissions, body worn video and any CCTV and other evidence gathered at this preliminary stage."</p><p>On Dec. 27, partial body camera footage of the incident <a href="https://www.insider.com/lapd-release-body-cam-footage-burlington-coat-factory-teen-shooting-2021-12">was released.</a></p><p>Orellana-Peralta moved from Chile with her mother Soledad just months before her death in search of a better life. She was described as her mother's sidekick and her father's best friend.</p><p>Her parents and extended family observed the procession, occasionally locking hands and passing tissues, or raising a fist or peace sign when her name was mentioned. Partway through, the City of Refuge church gospel band played – at Soledad's advance request – and her family danced, clapped, and cheered in remembrance of Valentina's life.</p><h2><strong>Legendary civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton showed his support</strong></h2><p>"Thirty-one years ago, I came to Los Angeles because LAPD beat a man on the highway. His name was Rodney King," Sharpton said. "And here we are again. How long will it take for you to get it right?"</p><p>"I don't feel better if I'm shot by a Black cop," Sharpton said. "I want to deal with the question of how we handle policing in this country."</p><p>Sharpton heavily criticized the "recklessness" of the LAPD's actions, suggesting that had a similar incident happened at a high-end shopping complex, or in a rich neighborhood, the response would have been more measured. Other tweets sent out from his account included "f*** trident," "straya c***" and our personal favourite "davey cameron is a pie," which in retrospect is hard to argue against. All in all, Corbyn really set the tone for the year to come.</p><h2>"Anything with a Bollywood theme, I lap it up" -&#xa0;Zac Goldsmith</h2><p>If you're a right-wing politician then 2016 has almost certainly been a good year. Right across the western world the right have been resurgent with social democratic parties in heavy retreat. One of the few exceptions to this trend is Zac Goldsmith who this year lost not just one election, but two. One of the highlights of his first defeat, in the race for London mayor, was a particularly awkward interview on the red carpet of the Asian Awards. "I'm a Bollywood fan, so anything with a Bollywood theme I lap it up," he said. However, when asked for examples of his favourite Bollywood films he dried up: "Let me think. No I wouldn't be able to. I'm not going to give you one. I can't think of a favourite." If the red carpet could have swallowed him up it would have done.</p><h2>"A pansexual for London" - Zac Goldsmith</h2><p>Goldsmith was similarly out of his depth in an interview with <a href="http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2016/03/04/zac-goldsmith-i-want-to-be-pansexual-for-london/">Pink News</a>. Asked whether he would be a mayor for all Londoners, he replied, inexplicably: "I would use the term pansexual here, if my understanding is correct. I would be the mayor for all of London." For some reason London's voters opted out of a pansexual experience with the former MP for Richmond.</p><h2>"My dad was a bus driver" - Sadiq Khan</h2><p>The London mayoral election was ultimately won convincingly by Labour's Sadiq Khan. Khan's campaign made much of his lowly council estate background. He was also particularly keen on referring to his dad's job choice.</p><h2>"We have got some leaders of some fantastically corrupt countries coming to Britain" - David Cameron</h2><p>Cameron's year was inescablaly awful all round. Caught on camera in May speaking to the Queen, Cameron explained that he had been at Cabinet talking about the upcoming anti-corruption summit.</p><p>"We have got the Nigerians - actually we have got some leaders of some fantastically corrupt countries<br>coming to Britain," he boasted.</br></p><p>Cameron went on: "Nigeria and Afghanistan - possibly two of the most corrupt countries in the world."</p><p>Her Majesty, ever the diplomat, did not respond.</p><h2>"We're going to win - maybe by 70-30" - David Cameron</h2><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Cameron's decision to call the EU referendum will go down as one of the biggest miscalculations in political history. As a result, the EU had no incentive to offer Cameron a more favourable renegotiation deal. As the challenge against the Labour leader began, his press chief Seumas Milne invited the cameras in for a show of unity among what was left of the shadow cabinet. One microphone picked up a worried Corbyn, sat next to Tom Watson, urging Milne to ask the cameras to leave. These Marines belong to specialized units called Ground Sensor Platoons, and for over a decade have been quietly partnering with the US Border patrol to help agents catch drug traffickers and migrants who cross illegally into the United States from Central and South America.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Despite being infantry Marines, the weapons of choice for Ground Sensor Platoons aren't bullets. The Tactical Remote Sensor System, or TRSS, is a suite of sensors, cameras, re-transmission devices, and monitoring equipment that are used to track enemy movement. The sensors are sensitive enough to detect how many people may be walking nearby, what direction they're traveling, and can even differentiate between different types of vehicles. Some of the sensors are equipped with day and night imaging capability, allowing Marines to identify the exact nature of their target. And like most equipment fielded by the Marine Corps, the system can take a beating: the Corps claims the sensors and relay equipment can operate autonomously for up to 30 days.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">All of this makes the Ground Sensor Platoon an important partner to the US Border Patrol. Former President George W Bush's administration oversaw the construction of almost 700 miles of barriers on the US-Mexico border, and President Donald Trump continues to pledge to build a wall across the thousand or so miles without a physical barrier. The Department of Homeland Security has continued to </span><a href="https://www.dhs.gov/sites/default/files/publications/privacy_pia_CBP_BSS_August2014.pdf"><span style="font-weight: 400;">extend and expand the US Border Patrol's ability to monitor the border</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> with drones, CCTV, and other surveillance methods, but there are still gaps. In 2015, for instance, agents stopped 444,825 migrants while an estimated 200,000 migrants got by them and successfully entered the US illegally.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Joint Task Force-North, Customs and Border Patrol, and the US Marine Corps declined to repeated requests for interviews and comment on these operations. During the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Ground Sensor Platoons became invaluable for American troops struggling to maintain control over large areas. </span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Soon after his arrival to 4th GSP, a squad leader told Vogel to prepare for upcoming training, one that promised real world conditions for the platoon to hone their skills before heading to battlefields in Iraq or Afghanistan. Their enemy for this operation would not be green targets on a shooting range, or other Marines pretending to be insurgents. For the next few weeks, their targets would be drug cartels and human traffickers moving north across the US-Mexico border in southern California. Their mission: help the US Border Patrol stem the tide of drugs pouring into the US using their surveillance equipment. As Vogel and his platoon sat through briefings on drug cartels from Central and Latin America, he focused on the mission. "My thoughts were on the terrain," he recalled, "it looked just like the mountains of Afghanistan." </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"></span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">For the overworked and undermanned US Border Patrol, the opportunity to utilize military-grade surveillance equipment operated by Marines frees more Border Patrol agents to catch smugglers and undocumented migrants  moving north. GSP Marines and US Border Patrol have conducted joint operations along the entire length of the border, and frequently work in one of the most controversial border sectors where a majority of illegal border crossings occur: the Rio Grande Valley.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Courtesy Michael Vogel</span></p><p class="caption">This courtesy photo shows a US Border Patrol Agent working with a GSP Marine unit in Texas.</p></div><p></p></div></div></span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In 2008, Vogel and the rest of 4th GSP arrived at a Customs and Border Patrol base of operations in Texas. "When we landed we were introduced to the lead Border Patrol agent at the hangar for the Border Patrol Air Mobile unit, which is who we worked with. It was great, a lot of the guys we worked with were veterans, really professional guys," Vogel told Business Insider in a recent phone interview. "They knew what was up, our higher ups had coordinated with them and they set up a tactical operations center for us in the hangar. We slept side by side with these guys for the entire operation."</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"></span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Even as a young Marine, Vogel could tell the Border Patrol was struggling to keep up with the influx of humans and drugs crossing into America. "It felt like they were undermanned, they needed routes covered that they just couldn't cover with their personnel." The Border Patrol agents spoke openly about their predicament, admitting "they just couldn't keep up with what was going on out there," as he recalled. During his first time on the border with CBP, Vogel estimated that the Marines passed on roughly 50 to 100 sensor reports a week to their CBP partners, a number that "only increased" during later joint operations in the Rio Grande Valley.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"></span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Vogel's platoon worked with the CBP three times before he deployed to Iraq in 2008 and Afghanistan in 2010. On each joint operation, the Border Patrol put Mr. Vogel and the GSP Marines to work as soon as they touched down in Texas. "That first week is balls to the wall, just getting all your equipment out there. Then you're going to a 6 hours on, 6 hours off rotation in the TOC." The TOC,  which stands for Tactical Operations Center, is where GSP Marines keep a constant watch on information feeding into monitors from their sensors, whether in Texas or on the battlefield. Vogel remembered Border Patrol agents wanted the Marines to focus on drug interdiction. Unlike people risking their life to come to America, who often come across the border with little more than the shirt on their back and a bottle of water, Marines were on the lookout for individuals or groups of people carrying large packs that might smuggle drugs. Once located, the Border Patrol could dispatch agents to go out and investigate. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"></span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"Any groups that we saw on our imaging, we had a Border Patrol agent with us in the TOC, and they would call and let their agents know in the field and they would find out what was there." Vogel made sure to note that the Marines did not go in with the Border Patrol teams to investigate what their sensors picked up, nor did the Marines interact with anyone found crossing the border. "It was firm, in stone: You do not interact with anybody. When we were in the field it was always at night." And if the Marines came upon someone in the desert while emplacing their sensors? "We would get out of there, or we would just stay where were. We always had a BP agent with us in case something like that happened, and BP would pull whoever it was to the side and deal with whatever was going on with them separately. They really wanted to keep us out of sight, out of mind." </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"></span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">For Vogel, the joint GSP-CBP operations were "the best possible training that we could've gotten before deploying overseas. Dealing with the terrain, trying to get our equipment to communicate through the mountains, it was brutal. For me as a Lance Corporal it was an eye opener, definitely an eye opener. It was a good working relationship both ways, we learned a lot and were able to help them cover routes that they were struggling with."</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Courtesy Michael Vogel</span></p><p class="caption">Michael Vogel, bottom right, and his GSP team in Afghanistan in 2010.</p></div><p></p></div></div></span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Perfecting the ability to remain "out of sight, out of mind" is crucial for Ground Sensor Platoons operating in combat, as their primary role in war zones is to stealthily advance ahead of the main troops, tracking insurgents with their sensors in a </span><a href="https://michaelvogeljr.com/ground-sensor-lifer/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">deadly game of cat and mouse</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. It was a game the Vogel played with insurgents in Iraq and the Taliban in Afghanistan, with more than one close call.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"></span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The partnership between US Marines and US Border Patrol is part of a long standing effort by Joint Task Force-North, a DoD task force based in Fort Bliss, Texas. The task force pairs law enforcement groups with military units that can best assist them on counter-terror and homeland security missions. The military has a long history of being deployed to the border, but after a 1997 incident in Texas</span><a href="https://theintercept.com/2018/04/06/border-patrol-us-mexico-esequiel-hernandez/"> <span style="font-weight: 400;">when a Marine killed a US citizen</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> herding goats, the military drastically reduced its presence in the area. The task force in charge of coordinating military and law enforcement efforts at the time, Joint Task Force-6, was re-branded as Joint Task Force-North with a new pledge to ensure similar incidents never occurred again, while continuing the military's coordination with law enforcement agencies.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"></span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">After some states have pulled their National Guard units from the border in protest of a White House policy to separate detained parents from their children, GSP Marines have continued operations.
