He also said: “We also hope that the government would end one anomaly and that is of treating unfavourably investments by AIFs and Angel Groups in unlisted companies.” 
 
“Today, capital gains tax on investments in publicly listed companies are treated as long term capital gains and taxed at 0% if held for over one year and as short term if held for less than a year and taxed at 15%( plus STT in both cases). But investments in unlisted companies or start ups is taxed at 33% for short term and at 20% for long term capital gains, with the holding period for long term capital gains as 3 years,” explains Mr Srivastava. 
 
“These investments in unlisted companies take more risks, are illiquid and create new ventures. They should be treated more favourably or at least on par with trading shares on the stock exchange. 
This should be allowed at least for investments made by SEBI registered, widely held AIF Category 1 and Angel Funds. The AIFs can collect STT like stock exchanges on such transactions,” he adds. 
 Highlighting the advantages of this, Mr Srivastava says, “this will end the discrimination against domestic <keyword id="6357097" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="venture-capital">venture capital</keyword> funds ( AIFs) as foreign funds anyway pay no capital gains tax by investing from Mauritius and other treaty friendly countries. This will also nudge foreign funds to register with SEBI.”

While the government had the logic of digital transaction, foreign tourists coming to India inspired by ‘Atithi devo bhava’ were taken aback. November being Thanks Giving month for most people in the West became quite thankless to the foreign tourists. With too much limitations on withdrawal and exchange, an online travel portal on condition of anonymity told <keyword id="824043" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Business-Insider">Business Insider</keyword>, they experienced 15% cancelation of pre-booked trips.

The list would include extension of e-tourist visa from 30 days to 180 days, need for multiple entry e-toursit visa instead of the existing single entry, promotion on Medical Toursim. 
 
The industry is still saddled with multiple layers of tax include VAT, service tax, luxury tax etc. and ranges from 20% - 30%. Lowering the threshold of infrastructure status for hotel projects to Rs. 25 Cr. would also do well. Some of the aspects which can be considered are: special incentives like tax-free bonds and income tax exceptions on profits used in re-investment in the tourism sector, development of tourism infrastructure at heritage site, setting up centres for adventure activities and experiential zones. More support to drive job creation in this industry will help improve the poverty alleviation in the country.” 
 
Talking about building of infrastructure, Ritesh Agarwal, Founder &amp; CEO, OYO said, “Infrastructure development is a pre-requisite to provide the much-needed impetus for the industry’s growth. Additional incentives should be provided for infrastructure investments in the travel and tourism sector to accelerate growth. A lower tax rate for hospitality business and the lower rate of interest for real-estate development will ensure opening up of more supply for the nascent branded budget hospitality sector. This will be in line with supporting small owner-friendly policies, such as the exemption of service tax in the sub-Rs. 1000 hotel room category.” 
 
Not just Indian entrepreneurs, even tourism boards of various countries are equally excited about the budget on Februray 1. Hanneli Slabber, Country Manager, South African Tourism India said, “Positive taxation of course will help propel domestic tourism forward. We look forward to positive taxation on airline tickets and airport services to make the proposition of flying domestically and internationally more accessible to all Indians.”

	Shareholding premium from investment should not be considered as income and hence taxable. SEZ companies should be allowed to conduct domestic sales in Indian rupees rather than in foreign currency as per a recent change that came like a jolt. In a nutshell, I expect the entire startup ecosystem should be free of Red-Tapery, easing down the process of doing business and creating the ground for ‘Innovation’. 
	 Furthermore, considering the enthusiasm about the much talked about ‘<keyword id="1929810" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Digital-India">Digital India</keyword>’ campaign, the budget this year should also focus on digital literacy to ensure the benefits of digitization is reaped by maximum number of individuals in the country. This will also empower citizens and enable start-ups and large organisations to experience digital transformation. Additionally, for the campaign to be successful, improved connectivity and access to technology supported by radical government process re-engineering needs its share in the Union Budget this year. Budget 2015 had its firm fingers on the IT companies apart from being rational and realistic. I think the budget this year should continue with its stand. As a matter of fact, Digital India, <keyword id="3003094" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Startup-India">Startup India</keyword>, Standup India and Skill India requires strong budgetary support for the creation of a technological infrastructure to nurture such campaigns. The year 2015 witnessed the listing of 98 smart cities across India and ensued by that the year 2016 looks prospective for the IT sector, categorically for the IoT players. A lot has been spoken about smart cities in the past two years and this year is the time to realize them. <ul><li>The Indian IT sector is looking at tax cuts and incentives from the Indian government’s upcoming Union Budget on Friday. </li><li><keyword id="6372077" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="nasscom">NASSCOM</keyword>, the <keyword id="211817" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Trade-Association">trade association</keyword> of Indian IT firms, recommended that the Indian government set up effective SEZs and provide impetus to investment in R&amp;D to ensure that India hits its $5 trillion GDP target by 2024. </li><li><keyword id="6355001" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="ficci">FICCI</keyword> and other Indian players in the India IT sector are also looking at incentives to upskill the workforce and seek clarifications on taxation laws.</li></ul>The Indian IT sector might be the trump card that could turn India into a $5 trillion economy by 2024. But to be able to that, the sector needs a push, says industry body NASSCOM. India’s IT industry which accounts for over 6.6% of the country’s GDP and employs 4.1 million skilled individuals; wants the government to clear the path for its growth. Incentives for R&amp;D Apart from manufacturing, the IT sector also wants to capitalise on the country’s intellectual capital. This, in turn can spur innovation and act as a catalyst to the growth of startups in the country. Easy regulation can help, especially with regards to fintech innovation. “Regulatory sandbox initiative needs to go live as quickly as possible starting with all the financial regulators enabling all the fintech players to develop more products in an accelerated manner - this will be a big boost for the fintech landscape of India,” said Saru Tumuluri, the CEO of Khosla Labs and provider of Veri5Digital. The government should also help drive new-age technologies. Snehashish Bhattacharjee, Global CEO of Denave believes that the expectations have risen a notch since the Interim Budget. “It held promise of greater focus on emerging technologies with plans of a National programme on <keyword id="107950" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="artificial-intelligence">Artificial Intelligence</keyword> (AI) comprising establishing a national centre on AI along with Centre of Excellence (CoE). It is now important that the pace of the change is quickened and we hope the government will have multiple things in their bucket to offer in this section.” Along with infrastructure, the government should also aid the growth of skills too. “Initiatives like making National centre for Artificial Intelligence and building Centre of Excellence in collaboration with universities will open the path for the youth in India to leverage the new state-of-the-art development infrastructure and upskill themselves to widen the job opportunity pool for themselves,” said Rishi Bhatnagar, the President of Aeris Communications &amp; Chairman IET IoT Panel India. World leader for tech startups Then, there is the long-standing request of an eased tax regime. NASSCOM wants India to follow the example of Singapore and UK. They provide tax deductions to those investing in startups with an intention to improve their value. It recommends that Long Term Capital Gains from selling shares of unlisted companies should be exempted from tax. And, Shorter Term Capital Gains should only be taxed at 15% rather than vary with an individual’s tax slab. “Lowering the GST slabs in manufacturing devices can pose as an opportunity for the youth to lead India in this endeavour with innumerable innovative start-ups,” states Bhatnagar. In order to incentivise startups, small and medium enterprises that have a turnover of less than ₹500 million should also be exempt from the Minimum Alternate Tax. Taking away the 18.5% taxation rate of MAT would also promote the ease of doing business in India along with clarifying on how tax is treated once a contract is terminated or modified. Saurav Goyal, the CFO of Money View, states, “The Government as part of the Budget should provide necessary clarity in terms of taxation norms and make a requisite change in the policies in accordance with the latest business practices, post factoring another regulatory requirement.” Goyal also asserts that, going forward, India should follow and consultative model that can help the country comply with international best practices. China, the world's second-largest economy, came in at 90th and has barely improved from two years ago when it was listed 93rd out of 189 countries.
The 12th annual report is designed to measure "ease of business" by using quantitative indicators on business regulations that can be compared across 189 nations.
According to <a href="http://www.doingbusiness.org/~/media/GIAWB/Doing%20Business/Documents/Annual-Reports/English/DB15-Chapters/DB15-Report-Overview.pdf" target="_blank">the report</a>, those indicators include starting a business, dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, registering property, getting credit, protecting minority investors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contracts, and resolving insolvency.
Estonia, Germany, and Switzerland improved their standings and placed in the top 20, while much of the rest of the nations have only been slightly reordered. 
Syria, Afghanistan, Venezuela, and Central African Republic were among the worst nations to conduct business with.

New Delhi, Jan 27 () Leading bicycle maker Hero Cycles on Monday urged the government to reduce GST on bicycles from 12 per cent to 5 per cent ahead of the Union Budget to revive demand in the rural markets.
 The company has also sought extension of FAME-II benefits to electric bicycles.
 "The budget must focus on reviving slumping demand across the country through a series of measures including re-adjusting GST slabs to put more disposable income into the hands of people," Hero Motors Company (HMC) Chairman Pankaj M Munjal said in a statement.
 The bicycles are largely used by low income group and rural populations and therefore need to be made cheaper by slashing GST from the current 12 per cent to the lowest 5 per cent slab, he added.
 "Similarly, we also want the government to extend FAME-II benefits to electric bicycles," Munjal said.
 Lower GST on bicycles would provide relief to millions of low income households, the company said.
 "We hope the government recognises the need to promote electric bicycles as much as the need to promote electric cars. While electric cars address the problem of pollution, they do not address the concern of traffic congestion in Indian cities," Munjal said.
 Electric bicycles are both eco-friendly and space friendly and also offer a viable solution to the problem of range anxiety that comes with lack of charging infrastructure as they can be easily pedaled back in case of battery loss, he added.
 Extending the subsidy benefits of FAME-II to electric bicycles will help manufacturers offer more affordable products to consumers, Munjal noted. MSS RUJ
