New Delhi, Jan 29 () Auto maker Renault on Wednesday said it has launched BS-VI compliant versions of its entry level hatchback Kwid and newly launched model Triber.
 The upgraded versions of Triber are priced between Rs 2.92 lakh and Rs 5.01 lakh, while Triber trims are tagged between Rs 4.99 lakh and Rs 6.78 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi), the company said in a statement.
 The price for BS-VI compliant Triber has been increased between Rs 4,000 to Rs 15,000 depending on the variant, while that of Kwid has been increased by Rs 9,000 across all versions, it added.
 The BS-VI compliant models of Duster and Captur will also be launched well before the BS-VI deadline (April 1), the company said. MSS

Renault drives in BS-VI compliant versions of Kwid, Triber

New Delhi, Dec 2 () The country's largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp on Monday reported 15.31 per cent decline in total sales to 5,16,775 units in November.
The company had sold 6,10,252 units in the same month a year ago, Hero MotoCorp said in a statement.
Total motorcycle sales were at 4,79,200 units as compared to 5,43,982 units in November last year. Scooter sales stood at 37,575 units as against 66,270 units in the year-ago month.
Hero MotoCorp said its domestic sales during the month stood at 5,05,994 units as against 6,01,045 units in November last year, down 15.82 per cent.
Exports, however, grew 17 per cent at 10,781 units as compared to 9,207 units in the year-ago month.
"Following record festive retail sales in October 2019 and lowest-ever inventory in two-years, the November 2019 despatch numbers reflect Hero MotoCorp's intent to ensure a smooth transition to BS-VI norms," the company said.
In November the company said it commenced retail sales of BS-VI compliant motorcycle, Splendor iSmart with fuel injection technology.
Hero MotoCorp said it has scaled up production of its BS-VI vehicles, while discontinuing rolling out of several BS-IV models in an effort to migrate completely to the new emission era.
It has stopped production of more than 50 variants of its BS-IV range of models, while rapidly increasing the production of BS-VI vehicles. RKL BAL

Indore, Mar 3 ( ) Volvo Group and Eicher Motors' joint venture VE Commercial Vehicles on Tuesday unveiled its entire BS-VI range of trucks and buses at its Pithampur manufacturing facility here, ahead of the April 1 deadline of the implementation of the new emission norms. The company also launched its innovative BS-VI solution, EUTECH6, which offers higher fuel-efficiency and improved productivity. Eicher had unveiled its first BS-VI offering in June last year with introduction of new-generation Pro2000 series. The country's third largest commercial vehicle maker offers vehicles in the 4.9-55 tonnes range. The deliveries of the BS-VI vehicles have already started in select markets and the entire new range of trucks and buses will be available pan-India starting this month, the company said. The upgrade of the product portfolio to BS-VI is in line with VE Commercial's vision to modernise trucks as well as the country's transportation sector, the company's managing director and chief executive officer Vinod Aggarwal said at the unveiling. "The Eicher's new BS-VI offering takes a lead in providing the most comprehensive and innovative solution for our customers. Our efficient and reliable BSVI engine technology is backed by over six years of experience of supplying Euro VI base engines to the Volvo Group. "Coupled with this, our new Uptime solution, an additional support service, is aimed at ensuring a differentiated aftersales experience for our customers," he said. The EUTECH6 solution will not only reduce fuel costs but will significantly improve productivity for the Eicher customers with new uptime solutions, he added. The solution offers unique mix of Euro VI base engine expertise, technological edge and uptime solutions. " Our extensive competence development program for technicians in our dealer network and for drivers of our customers will ensure seamless transition to BS-VI across the country," Aggarwal said. VE Commercial Vehicles unveils BS-VI range of trucks, buses

Bharat Stage (BS) Emission Norms for the vehicles operated on the Indian roads was announced for the first time two decades back. These are considered the benchmarks in regulating how much pollutants the automobiles release in the air. BS VI refers to the sixth stage of the Bharat Stage Emission norms that will come into effect from 1 April 2020. The BS emission norms are based on the European emission norms and implement strict control over the emissions from vehicles. BS I was introduced in 2000 by the <keyword id="67999" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Central-Pollution-Control-Board">Central Pollution Control Board</keyword> under the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change. This was followed by BS II in the year 2005, BS III in 2010 and BS IV in 2017. However, the wide spread alarms raised over the highly deteriorating condition of air pollution in the country has forced the government to skip the BS V and move straight away to BS VI. About BS VI (BS 6) Norms Referred to as the VI stage of Bharat Stage Emission norms, the main difference between the BS IV and the <keyword id="3165424" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="BS-VI-norms">BS VI norms</keyword> is the amount of sulphur content in the emissions. While BS IV compliant vehicles release 50 ppm (parts per million) sulphur, the BS VI compliant vehicles will only release 10 ppm sulphur. Also for the light duty diesel vehicles, the BS VI norms cut down the oxides of nitrogen emission limits. In case of light duty petrol vehicles, the emission of oxides of nitrogen are reduced by about 25 percent. In case of light duty diesel vehicles, BS VI has also introduced heightened particulate matter (PM) emission standard placing an upper limit of 6 X 1011 /km. For the light duty gasoline vehicles, the PM and PN limits have been specified as part of BS VI while they are applied only in case of vehicles that are reported with direct injection <keyword id="240487" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="engines">engines</keyword>. BS VI also comes with a critical change in the approval procedures for light duty vehicles. It has mandated that portable emissions measurement systems (PEMS) be used for the purpose of in-service commission testing. This will help ensure the emissions performance recorded during the laboratory testing is also maintained during the real world driving conditions. Implementation of BS VI in India In 2018 October, the Supreme Court banned the sales of BS IV vehicles which should never be seen in the market from April 1, 2020. The Supreme Court has also said strictly that there will not be any grace time given to the vehicle manufacturers to sell the vehicles that are not in compliance with the BS VI norms after this deadline. So we can say the BS VI norms will take effect from April 1, 2020. In order to comply with the BS VI norms, the vehicle manufacturers need to invest in technology that will let them upgrade the vehicle they already have with them in stock. Also, they will have to move to the new technology to make the new vehicles in compliant with the BS VI standards.

What are BS VI Norms?

New Delhi, Feb 19 () India will switch to the world's cleanest petrol and diesel from April 1 as it leapfrogs straight to Euro-VI emission compliant fuels from Euro-IV grades now - a feat achieved in just three years and not seen in any of the large economies around the globe.India will join the select league of nations using petrol and diesel containing just 10 parts per million of sulphur as it looks to cut vehicular emissions that are said to be one of the reasons for the choking pollution in major cities.Sanjiv Singh, Chairman of Indian Oil Corp (IOC) - the firm that controls roughly half of the country's fuel market, said almost all refineries began producing ultra-low sulphur BS-VI (equivalent to Euro-VI grade) petrol and diesel by the end of 2019 and oil companies have now undertaken the tedious task of replacing every drop of fuel in the country with the new one."We are absolutely on track for supplying BS-VI fuel from April 1. Almost all refineries have begun supplying BS-VI fuel and the same has reached storage depots across the country," he said. From storage depots, the fuel has started travelling to petrol pumps and in the next few weeks all of them will only have BS-VI grade petrol and diesel, he said. "We are 100 per cent confident that fuel that will flow from nozzles at all the petrol pumps in the country on April 1 will be BS-VI emission compliant fuel." India adopted Euro-III equivalent (or Bharat Stage-III) fuel with a sulphur content of 350 ppm in 2010 and then took seven years to move to BS-IV that had a sulphur content of 50 ppm. From BS-IV to BS-VI it took just three years. "It was a conscious decision to leapfrog to BS-VI as first upgrading to BS-V and then shifting to BS-VI would have prolonged the journey to 4 to 6 years. Besides, oil refineries, as well as automobile manufacturers, would have had to make investments twice - first to producing BS-V grade fuel and engines and then BS-VI ones," he said. State-owned oil refineries spent about Rs 35,000 crore to upgrade plants that could produce ultra-low sulphur fuel. This investment is on top of Rs 60,000 crore they spent on refinery upgrades in the previous switchovers. BS-VI has a sulphur content of just 10 ppm and emission standards are as good as CNG. Originally, Delhi and its adjoining towns were to have BS-VI fuel supplies by April 2019 and the rest of the country was to get same supplies from April 2020. But oil marketing companies switched over to supply of BS-VI grade fuels in the national capital territory of Delhi on April 1, 2018. The supply of BS-VI fuels was further extended to four contiguous districts of Rajasthan and eight of Uttar Pradesh in the National Capital Region (NCR) on April 1, 2019, together with the city of Agra. BS-VI grade fuels were made available in 7 districts of Haryana from October 1, 2019. Singh said the new fuel will result in a reduction in NOx in BS-VI compliant vehicles by 25 per cent in petrol cars and by 70 per cent in diesel cars. The switchover, he said, is a tedious task as every drop of old, higher-sulphur content fuel has to be flushed out in depots, pipelines and tanks before being replaced by BS-VI. "We are confident of disruption-free switchover to BS-VI supplies across the country," he said. "What we will be supplying is the best quality available anywhere in the world. You don't have any better fuel that is supplied in any part of the world. Perhaps our BS-VI fuel will be better than equivalent fuel in some parts of the US and Europe." India adopted a fuel upgradation programme in the early 1990s. Low lead gasoline (petrol) was introduced in 1994 in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. On February 1, 2000, unleaded gasoline was mandated nationwide. Similarly, BS-2000 (Euro-I equivalent, BS-1) vehicle emission norms were introduced for new vehicles from April 2000. BS-II (Euro-II equivalent) emission norms for new cars were introduced in Delhi from 2000 and extended to the other metro cities in 2001. Benzene limits have been reduced progressively from 5 per cent in 2000 to 1 per cent nationwide. Lead content in gasoline was removed in phases and only unleaded gasoline is being produced and sold from February 1, 2000. The octane number of gasoline signifies the improved performance of the engine. Loss in octane number due to phasing out of lead was made up by installing new facilities in the refinery and changes in refinery operation. RON (Research Octane Number) of gasoline for BS-2000 spec was increased to 88. This has over time been increased to 91. Singh said sulphur reduction will reduce Particulate Matter (PM) emissions even in the in-use older generation diesel vehicles. ANZ MKJ

New Delhi, Nov 20 () German luxury carmaker BMW on Wednesday said it has upgraded its entire petrol vehicle range in India to conform to BS VI emission regulations.
 The automaker said it is now working to upgrade its diesel range to conform to stricter emission norms which kick in the country from April, 1 next year.
 The petrol portfolio is already BS VI compliant while, the diesel portfolio will be converted ahead of stipulated timelines, BMW India said in a statement.
 The company's Chennai-based plant has started local production of BS VI diesel variants of the 5 Series and 6 Series Gran Turismo and is also gearing up to roll out new X1, it added.
 "The complete petrol portfolio is already BS VI compliant while the diesel portfolio will be converted ahead of stipulated timelines. BMW Group Plant Chennai has started local production of BS VI diesel variants of the BMW 5 and the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo," BMW India said in a statement.
 The production of BS VI version of the BMW X1 will also begin soon, it added.
 "Early start of BS VI production is a strategic call we are taking to meet the unprecedented demand for our new products," BMW Group India President and Chief Executive Officer Rudratej Singh said.
 Beginning next year, the company will increase prices of BS VI models by up to 6 per cent, he added. MSS SHW

BMW upgrades entire petrol model range in India to conform to BS VI emission norms

Greater Noida, Feb 5 () Mahindra &amp; Mahindra on Wednesday introduced Cruzio range of buses at the auto expo here and has formally entered into the passenger bus segment.Cruzio would establish Mahindra, a full range player in the commercial vehicle segment having presence across the segment.The company has launched two variants Cruzio and Cruzio Grande having a seating capacity of 15 to 65, respectively and would be compliant with BS VI emission norms."We have formally entered into the bus segment with Cruzio range," said Mahindra &amp; Mahindra Managing Director Pawan Goenka.Mahindra &amp; Mahindra President Automotive Sector Rajan Wadhera said: "The launch of our CRUZIO range of buses is another significant step toward making us a full range player in the CV segment." New Delhi, Mar 16 () Honda Motorcycle &amp; Scooter India (HMSI) on Monday said it has sold over 5.5 lakh units of BS-VI-compliant vehicles till date. The company currently has six BS-VI-compliant models -- Activa 125 SP 125, Activa 6G, Shine, Unicorn and Dio -- available in the market. The strict BS-VI emission norms come into effect from April 1. Commenting on crossing the milestone, HMSI Senior Vice-President (Sales and Marketing) Yadvinder Singh Guleria said, "The launch of six BS-VI-compliant models offering many segment-first features has provided Honda with great momentum to leap ahead in the BS-VI era."
