New Delhi, Mar 4 () Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL) on Wednesday launched BS-VI compliant GIXXER series of motorcycles priced between Rs 1.12-1.23 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The series comprises GIXXER and GIXXER SF bikes which are powered by a 155cc engine capable of generating power of 13.6ps, the company said in a statement. While the GIXXER is priced at Rs 1,11,871, the GIXXER SF comes at Rs 1,21,871 and GIXXER SF MotoGP edition is tagged at Rs 1,22,900, it added. "Suzuki Motorcycle India has plans to grow at a robust pace with its flagship brand, GIXXER. Both BS-VI compliant GIXXER SF and GIXXER, designed keeping the Indian customers in mind, have become even more environment friendly without compromising on the overall power and performance," SMIPL Managing Director Koichiro Hirao said. Suzuki Motorcycle launches BS-VI compliant GIXXER bikes

New Delhi, Jan 30 () TVS Motor Co on Thursday launched BS-VI compliant version of its Apache RR310 motorcycle, priced at Rs 2.4 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
 The Apache RR310 BS-VI features new technology such as throttle-by-wire that electronically connects throttle grip to body by replacing the conventional cable.
 It also comes with an interactive 5-inch Vertical TFT Multi Information Race Computer with control cubes, bluetooth enabled SmartXonnect and four ride modes -- urban, rain, sport and track -- allowing a rider to choose performance of vehicle according to different riding conditions.
 Commenting on the launch, TVS Motor Company Head (Marketing), Premium Motorcycles, Meghashyam Dighole said the Apache RR310 has been a favourite amongst motorcycle enthusiast since its launch in 2017.
 "The newly launched machine will further move the needle by creating a technological benchmark with many segment first features, thereby strengthening its status of being the best in class vehicle," he added.

TVS Motor launches BS-VI compliant Apache RR310 bike priced at Rs 2.4 lakh

New Delhi, Nov 26 () TVS Motor Company on Tuesday launched BS VI compliant range of TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and TVS Apache RTR 160 4V motorcycles, priced up to Rs 1.24 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
 TVS Apache RTR 4V motorcycles now come equipped with race graphics, all new LED headlamp, among other features. Apache RTR 200 4V - DC, which is powered by a 197.75cc single-cylinder engine, is priced at Rs 1.24 lakh, while Apache RTR 160 4V (disc) is tagged at Rs 1.03 lakh.
Besides, Apache RTR 160 4V (drum) is priced at Rs 99,950. (all prices ex-showroom Delhi). The model comes with single-cylinder 159.7 cc powertrain.
The 2020 Apache range now comes with race tuned-fuel injection technology. Besides, Apache RTR 4V motorcycles come equipped with race graphics, all new LED headlamp, among other features.
 "The 2020 range of Apache RTR series offers an array of premium features enabled by cutting edge technology and will transform performance biking. This marks the commencement of the transition of our vehicles to the BS-VI norms," TVS Motor Company Head - (Marketing) Premium Motorcycles Meghashyam Dighole said.

From Scrambler and Multistrada to Monster and SuperSport — Ducati is launching 12 new bikes in India, check the launch dates here

New Delhi, Feb 4 () India Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd on Tuesday introduced the BS-VI compliant FZ 25 motorcycle along with unveiling an all-new FZS 25 bike. 
 The BS-VI FZ 25, will be available in India from April 2020, with a 249-cc, 4-stroke, single-cylinder engine, the company said in a statement.
 Further details of the bike will be announced later, it added.
 The company also announced the prices of its newly unveiled BS-VI compliant two-wheelers including MT-15 (155 cc) motorcycle, Ray ZR 125 FI scooter and Street Rally 125 FI scooter.
 The MT-15 will be priced at Rs 1,38,900 and Rs 1,39,400, respectively, for two different variants.
 Similarly, two variants of the Ray ZR 125 FI scooter will be available at Rs 66,730 and Rs 69,730, respectively.
 Street Rally 125 FI, which comes only in disc brake option, has been priced at Rs 70,730, the company said.
 The BS-VI variant of these two-wheelers were unveiled by the company in December 19, 2019, here in India.
 Commenting on the new products, Yamaha Motor India group of companies Chairman Motofumi Shitara said Yamaha is determined to provide exciting two-wheeler experiences to the Indian customers.
 "In future, the company will look forward to bring more excitement on board as a part of its brand commitment in India," he said.

Yamaha introduces BS-VI compliant FZ 25 motorcycle

New Delhi, Dec 12 () The country's largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp plans to drive in BS-VI upgrades of around ten products, including five top-selling bikes and scooters by February next year, as it aims to upgrade its product portfolio well before the deadline of April, 1 2020, according to sources.
 The two wheeler major plans to showcase the upgraded products at an event in February 2020 at its R&amp;D centre (Centre of Innovation and Technology), in Jaipur,
 "Within the next 4-8 weeks, the company will launch around ten BS-VI products including its key products such as Splendor, HF Deluxe, Glamour motorcycles and Maestro Edge scooter," a company source said.
 Hero MotoCorp has already commenced the retail sales of its first BS-VI motorcycle, the Splendor iSmart in November 2019. 
 The transition to the higher emission norms for the company is being driven at its R&amp;D centre in Jaipur, which was commissioned in March 2016.
 Since then, Hero has further enhanced its in-house R&amp;D capabilities by setting-up the Hero Tech Center GmbH, near Munich in Germany. 
 Besides, the BS-VI transition, the company's is also focusing on a range of new premium products and accessories to increase its market share in such verticals.
 At the recent EICMA motor show in Milan, the Hero MotoCorp had showcased the Xtreme 1.R Concept which is expected to hit the roads soon.
"The XPulse Rally Edition that Hero will launch soon, has been developed basis the learnings from the company's motorsport team and will open up a new segment for biking enthusiasts in the country," the source said.
 When contacted, a company spokesperson said, "We have already launched Splendor iSmart in the market, which is the country's first BS-VI motorcycle. As stated earlier, we have also stopped production of more than 50 variants of our BS-IV range, and now aggressively working towards complete migration of our entire range to BS-VI norms. We will make the announcements on specific products at an appropriate time closer to their market launch."

Optimism is scarce and people have lesser savings than they did last year. So, the pent-up demand may be missing this time around, according to analysts. There is a virtual lockdown in the world’s fourth largest automobile market

New Delhi, Mar 2 () Leading two-wheeler manufacturers Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor Company on Monday reported double-digit decline in sales in February as compared to the year-ago period, impacted by BS-VI transition and component supply disruption due to coronavirus outbreak in China. On the other hand, Suzuki Motorcycle and Royal Enfield posted single-digit increase in sales last month. The country's largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp reported 19.27 per cent decline in total sales at 4,98,242 units in February. The company had sold 6,17,215 units in the corresponding month of the previous year, Hero MotoCorp said in a statement. Total motorcycle sales last month stood at 4,79,310 units as against 5,58,884 units in February 2019, down 14.23 per cent. Total scooter sales declined 67.54 per cent to 18,932 units as compared to 58,331 units in the year-ago month, it added. In the domestic market, sales were at 4,80,196 units last month as compared with 6,00,616 units in the same period a year ago, down 20.04 per cent. Hero MotorCorp said its exports last month were at 18,046 units as compared to 16,599 units in February 2019. The two-wheeler major said it has moved ahead to manufacturing only BS-VI vehicles and stopped the production of all BS-IV two-wheelers in February. The ongoing COVID-19 issue had adversely impacted production at the company's manufacturing facilities last month. "Since then, substantial progress has been made in developing alternate sources for procuring components. Meanwhile, the component makers in China, having restarted production, are also expected to resume normal supplies soon," Hero MotoCorp said. Similarly, TVS Motor Company reported 15.39 per cent decline in total sales at 2,53,261 units in February on account of BS-IV reduction and impact of parts supply disruption due to coronavirus outbreak. The company had sold 2,99,353 units in February 2019. "As planned, the company is on track to reducing dealer level BS-IV stock in the domestic market and is confident of retailing it this month," it said. In addition, the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) impacted supply of certain components for production of BS-VI vehicles. All efforts are on to normalise this at the earliest, it added. Total two-wheelers sales were at 2,35,891 units in February 2020 as against 2,85,611 units in the same month last year, down 17.4 per cent. Domestic two-wheeler sales last month stood at 1,69,684 units as compared to 2,31,582 units in February 2019, a decline of 26.72 per cent. Motorcycle sales were down 3.29 per cent to 1,18,514 units in February 2020 as compared to 1,22,551 units in the year-ago month. Scooter sales also declined by 30.25 per cent to 60,633 units as against 86,935 units in February 2019, TVS Motor Co said. Total three-wheeler sales, however, grew by 26 per cent to 17,370 units last month as compared to 13,742 units in February 2019. Similarly, total exports also grew by 25 per cent to 82,877 units in February 2020 as compared to 66,570 units in the same month last year, the company said. Bajaj Auto also reported 10 per cent decline in total sales at 3,54,913 units in February as against 3,93,089 units in the same month last year. Total domestic sales declined by 24 per cent to 1,68,747 units last month as compared to 2,21,706 units in February 2019, Bajaj Auto said in a statement. On the other hand, niche bike maker Royal Enfield reported 1 per cent growth in total sales at 63,536 units in February as compared with 62,630 units in February last year. Domestic sales stood at 61,188 units last month as against 60,066 units in February 2019, up 2 per cent. Exports declined 8 per cent to 2,348 units as against 2,564 units in the same month previous year, it said. Similarly, Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL) posted a 3.5 per cent increase in total sales at 67,961 units last month. It had sold 65,630 units in the year-ago period. The company's domestic sales during February this year stood at 58,644 units as compared to 57,174 units sold in the year-ago month, a growth of 2.57 per cent. "Inching closer to the end of the current fiscal year, we are happy with our sustained growth momentum," SMIPL Managing Director Koichiro Hirao said. In the four-wheeler segment, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reported a 9.1 per cent decline in total vehicle sales at 11,356 units in February as against 12,497 units in the same month last year. In the domestic market, the company posted sales of 10,352 units last month, down 11.9 per cent from 11,760 units in February 2019, TKM said in a statement. "We have smoothly transitioned to BS-VI manufacturing and started delivering BS-VI vehicles to our customers before the stipulated deadline of April 2020. A total of 31,853 BS-VI vehicles have been dispatched to our dealerships till date," TKM Senior Vice President (Sales and Service) Naveen Soni said. On Sunday, Tata Motors, Mahindra and Mahindra (M&amp;M) and MG Motor India said that they were facing challenges in terms of component supply from coronavirus-hit China. However, major automobile manufacturers Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Toyota Kirloskar Motor said they do not see any immediate impact on their production schedules due to disruption in supply of components from plants located in China. The companies, however, said they continue to monitor the situation closely, especially the operations of their major suppliers, in order to face any adverse situation that may crop up in the future. Apart from trying the unknown, consumers are held back by fewer models along with prohibitive costs of electrical vehicles. The good news is that the costs are coming down. While the purchase price tag is high, the government eases this burden with incentives. In addition, the running costs of an electric vehicle, particularly two-wheelers, can provide enormous cost savings. Here is some math to support the theory. Tork 6X versus Super Splendor A report by Kotak Institutional Equities pegged the top most purchased motor bike Hero’s Super Splendor against a popular electric vehicle Tork 6X. Tork 6X is likely to be ₹55,056 more expensive than Super Splendor, even after adding in government incentives. But, it will also save running costs to the user by ₹58,364 in over 50,000 kms. Electric bike users can breakeven on the higher initial costs of Tork 6X in 4.7 years, on an average. If due to some reason the government decides to rescind the benefits, the breakeven time can move up to 6.6 years. There is something else that will weigh in favour of electric vehicles. The new BS-VI emission norms will kick in next year and make petrol bikes costlier by ₹7,000. It will truncate the time taken to breakeven to four years. However, the breakthrough in ownership of electric vehicles will be in 2030 when Kotak expects the electric battery costs to fall. “Currently the shift towards electric bikes is not significant because of lack of product availability in the market while the bigger players like Hero, Honda, Bajaj and <keyword id="87196" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="TVS-Motors">TVS Motors</keyword> haven’t launched electric bikes. However most of these players are planning to launch electric bikes over the next 2-3 years,” the Kotak report said. Electric Scooters to be cheaper Scooter users might find it much easier to shift to electric vehicles as the total cost of ownership tilts heavily in favour of them. Considering increased price of normal scooters after new emission norms kick in, the breakeven between electric scooter Ather S340 and the most sold scooter, Honda Activa is pegged at 1.6 years. Also, the life of an electric scooter is much higher than a petrol scooter, making it a wiser option in the long run. “In terms of cost of ownership, electric scooters have become cheaper than petrol scooters as the life of lithium ion battery is 15 years while the life of a petrol scooter is 10 years,” the Kotak report says. Yet, electric bikes are yet to catch the fancy of the market. But, the shift to electric vehicles is inevitable. “The automobile industry is at the cusp of a revolution with adoption of cleaner vehicles (electric and <keyword id="935925" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="plug-in-hybrid">plug-in hybrid</keyword>) over petrol/diesel vehicles. We expect 28% of automobiles (except commercial vehicles) in India to shift to EVs by 2029-30 with scooters and three-wheelers adopting electric much faster than other segments,” the report said.
