In the apology, he admitted that screenshots posted by Sam Rogers showing him asking for nude photos were real.</li></ul><p>In a lengthy apology, <keyword id="9471799" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="bryant-eslava">Bryant Eslava</keyword> — the 27-year-old <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/24/style/bryant-eslava-photographer.html">"photographer of choice for influencers,"</a> including the likes of <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/B2h1iuVA0N4/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link">Emma Chamberlain</a>, Addison Rae Easterling, and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/B3aMrFDgeoc/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link">David Dobrik</a> — addressed an <a href="https://twitter.com/watssuptho/status/1274770849158115328?s=20">allegation</a> of sexual misconduct made against him this week. In his statement, he admitted that the allegation and evidence presented by his accuser was real.</p><p>In a viral Twitter thread shared by 27-year-old Sam Rogers on Sunday, Rogers detailed an uncomfortable encounter she had with Eslava in 2012, when she was a fan and Tumblr follower of his. At the time, Rogers was an aspiring model who admired Eslava because of his previous work shooting for American Apparel — he seemed cool, and she wanted to be "a cool AA model."</p><p>"In 2012, he exploited me making me believe it would help me in my career," Rogers tweeted Sunday.</p><p>Rogers says the conversation between herself and Eslava began via private message on Tumblr before moving to text and email. She says the conversation was sparked by a Tumblr post by Eslava, in which he expressed interest in taking pictures of some of his followers. Bryant, Rogers noted in the thread, "was just starting to get recognized" back then, so "it was easy to contact him." </p><p>In screenshots she posted of the alleged chat, Rogers is seen replying to Eslava's open call for subjects. Eslava seemingly replied by saying he would love to take photos of Rogers, and called her height "amazing" before asking her to send "some photos" of herself in "a simple black bra and black underwear: front, side, back photos."</p><p>Rogers says she responded by asking if she could take the picture clothed. </p><p>"I'm not wearing anything extravagant, I just feel a little uneasy about sending photos like that," she replied. "If it is absolutely necessary I will do what I can! I appreciate the offer so much, thank you!"</p><p>Eslava countered with: "Agencies typically want to see photos like these because they want to see your body figure and height. At this point it is necessary, but yes of course do what you can. You deserve to be signed!"</p><p>Rogers agreed, then asked Eslava where to send the photos. According to the screenshots, he provided his personal email address and requested that she send the images "now," because he was "currently dealing with over 300+ messages." Rogers said she would not be able to send them right away, but promised to do so by "midday tomorrow." Eslava said that would be fine, but said she could text him the photos if that would be "easier" for her. Rogers agreed, and did so. </p><p>"I guess I trusted him because he seemed to have a reasonable following and to me, that type of power meant something (at the time.)," she told Insider. "I wanted to believe that yes, agencies needed to see me be able to be butt naked at a whim. It sounds crazy, and dumb, and naive. I get it. I'm just a person. I believed him because he wasn't just some neighbor boy who was trying to be a photographer."</p><p>But shortly after Rogers sent him the partially nude photos, Eslava made an additional request. </p><p>"After he gave me his number, I texted him the bra and panties pictures," Rogers wrote on Twitter. "He then asked for nude photos, because 'agencies expect you to' for jobs."</p><p>Once Eslava received the nude photo, Rogers said she "never heard back from him, regarding modeling or anything at all."</p><p>"I thought I had made a huge mistake, and that people would genuinely think I'm dumb," Rogers said. "It took me a while to see the screenshots as embarrassing for him, not for me."</p><p>In response to Rogers' thread, other women told their own alleged stories about Eslava, but he did not appear to address them in his apology, and they were not able to be verified by Insider. </p><h2>On Thursday, Eslava addressed the allegations against him in a lengthy public apology on Twitter. </h2><p>In a note published on social media, Eslava apologized for the incidents, admitting that he did solicit nude photographs from women on Tumblr and that the screenshots published by Rogers were real.</p><p>Rogers tweeted that she'd received a private, personal apology from Eslava via Twitter direct message minutes before his public-facing version was published. In his note, Eslava told Rogers he wanted to "deeply apologize" for his actions in 2012. </p><p>"i have grown a lot throughout the years and although i'm not that person anymore i wanted to still take responsibility for what i've done," he wrote. "seeing those messages again made me sick to my stomach. i don't expect you to forgive me but i still wanted to reach out and let you know that i'm very sorry and what i did was never appropriate."</p><p>Rogers replied to Eslava by thanking him for recognizing that what he did was wrong, explaining that she did not personally message him originally "bc men are scary and also it deserves to be public for the sake of other girls," and telling him she'd acknowledge his private apology later in a tweet.</p><p>"This was before I read the shitty public apology," she said. "Since then I'm just sitting."</p><h2>Rogers says she hasn't been following Eslava's career in the years since their 2012 exchange.</h2><p>According to Rogers, her initial tweet came after seeing his account tagged on an influencer's Instagram post. </p><p>"I went to his profile and everything clicked again and I saw his following was mainly gen z and his pics were of people mainly gen z and it scared me leading me to tweet about it," she told Insider.</p><p>Rogers' modeling career never came to fruition. In the months that followed, she tried going to an open call for Ford Models, but was told she wasn't what they were looking for.</p><p>Eslava's star, however, continued to rise. Today, his ultra-recognizable style of candid, film photography is beloved by It Kids and brands alike. According to The New York Times' Taylor Lorenz, who <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/24/style/bryant-eslava-photographer.html">profiled Eslava</a> earlier this year, the young photographer "makes the majority of his living doing brand work and commercial photography."</p><p>"This allows him to have a more casual relationship with his subjects, some of whom have become close friends," Lorenz wrote. "It's a win-win situation: They get photos to post on social media and Mr. Eslava gets to capture a world he's been immersed in for nearly a decade."</p><h2>Online, the backlash against Eslava is snowballing. Fellow photographers were especially dismayed.</h2><p>For some, the <keyword id="6355005" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="news">news</keyword> of Rogers' allegation gave credence to concerns about the disparity between Eslava's age and that of his subjects, many of whom consider him a friend. Eslava's career took off in 2014 when Vine's Cameron Dallas <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/24/style/bryant-eslava-photographer.html">invited him to collaborate</a>. And in the intervening years, Eslava has built an impressive reputation for spotting promising talent on social media. You don't know who he is?" He then referred to Charles with the homophobic slur.</p><p>22-year-old James Charles is one of the most prominent makeup YouTubers on the platform with 24.5 million subscribers. He and Jowsey have crossed paths before, most notably during an event with several other influencers at LA bar 40 Love to celebrate photographer Bryant Eslava's birthday last year, <a href="https://perezhilton.com/harry-jowsey-party-tiktok-hollywood/">according to Perez Hilton.</a> The pair have also interacted on Instagram, with <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CU76jkipbXx/">Charles commenting on one of Jowsey's posts last week.</a></p><p>Jowsey, 24, is an actor who shot to fame after <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/reviews/out?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.mirror.co.uk%2F3am%2Fcelebrity-news%2Fhot-handles-harry-jowsey-really-22213669">appearing as a contestant in Season 1 of the Netflix dating show 'Too Hot to Handle"</a> two years ago. In March, Jowsey launched his podcast "Tap in with Harry Jowsey."</p><p>The podcast episode in question is still live, but TMZ reports it appears to have been shortened from 40 minutes to 27 minutes, with the comment about Charles edited out. </p><p>Jowsey has since addressed the comments in both an Instagram Live and a statement to TMZ. I've mended things in private. We have mended things in private but I just wanted to come on here and say that to the rest of the LGBTQ+ community that I'm going to take some time to educate myself on this and apologize. This word doesn't belong in my vocabulary and it shouldn't be spoken about."</p><p>He signed off by pledging that he was going to take time to educate himself and "actively pursue being a better human and being a better impact."</p><p>In his further statement to TMZ, Jowsey added, "I'm deeply embarrassed that I used such an offensive term so casually in conversation. I spoke with James already privately and I look forward to using this as a learning experience and not forgetting the weight that my words carry. She is one of TikTok's most-followed creators with nearly 50 million followers, second only to Charli D'Amelio's 70 million followers. Because Easterling is known for posting multiple times a day on the app and on social media, her fans had started to pose increasingly alarming theories to explain her absence.</p><p>But it appears the absence was Easterling's way of "taking space," as her friend Dixie D'Amelio recently put it in an interview with <a href="https://youtu.be/js8wNKfUumg">The Hollywood Fix</a>. </p><p>The video Easterling reposted is not the only problematic moment that fans have pointed to in recent days. Previously, Easterling was called out for seemingly telling Sway LA creator Kio Cyr to say the N-word during a live stream. TikTok star Addison Rae Easterling resurfaces on social media to apologize for reposting an 'All Lives Matter' video

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="10211545" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="zoe-laverne">Zoe Laverne</keyword> is a 19-year-old <keyword id="6762469" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="TikTok">TikTok</keyword> star with nearly 18 million followers who's best known for her lip-sync videos from 2016 to 2018.</li><li>Laverne apologized for "catching feelings" for a 13-year-old after a video appeared to show the two kissing.</li><li>The 13-year-old is a former fan of Laverne's who she says became her "best friend."</li><li>On his social-media accounts, where he has more than 300,000 followers, the 13-year-old has referred to being "more than friends" with Laverne as a "big mistake."</li><li>Laverne's mother has publicly defended her, saying during a livestream that, "Anybody can reach over and kiss somebody — they're best friends."</li></ul><p>The 19-year-old TikTok star Zoe Laverne — who has nearly 18 million followers on the app and is best known for her lip-sync videos from 2016 to 2018 — has apologized for "catching feelings" for a 13-year-old fan after a video that appeared to show the two kissing leaked on social media.</p><p>In a livestream and in social-media comments, Laverne has apologized for her actions but denied "<keyword id="6521765" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="grooming">grooming</keyword>" the 13-year-old fan. Grooming refers to building "a relationship, trust, and emotional connection with a child or young person so they can manipulate, exploit, and abuse them," <a href="https://www.nspcc.org.uk/what-is-child-abuse/types-of-abuse/grooming/">according to</a> the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.</p><p>Laverne says she became "best friends" with the fan, named Connor, but realized "the age is a bad thing" after the video of them kissing was filmed.</p><p>On October 24, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CGumA3knjuj/">direct messages</a> between another of Laverne's former friends and her ex-boyfriend leaked. In the texts, Laverne's former friend wrote: "I left because of her interactions with connor. They got very intense and it's something I do not stand by what so ever. Connor is known to Laverne's audience as one of her frequent collaborators and closest friends, and <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@cxnnorjoyce?lang=en">his own TikTok account</a> has nearly 400,000 followers. He often posted videos with Laverne, but Laverne said the two had since cut contact.</p><p>"I didn't groom Connor, I wouldn't do that. He's a kid and I'm aware of that. It just happened," Laverne said in a livestream. "We both were in a dark place when we first became friends and we both just ended up catching feelings for each other. And friends do that, they catch feelings for each other. That's not a bad thing. Yes, the age is a bad thing. Yes, it's wrong. Yes, it's not good. We both realized that and we stopped."</p><p>Connor also addressed the leaked video in <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CHEty55H0Jh/">a livestream</a> on his own social-media accounts. He described him and Laverne becoming "more than friends," which he said they realized at the same time was "wrong." He also said in a <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CG59LM0H8ZR/">public statement</a> on social media that Laverne "did not rape me."</p><p>Before addressing her audience in a livestream, Laverne posted other apologies on social media, including one that said she was <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CG-4xexnISl/">receiving therapy</a> and another that said she had told Connor's mother about their kiss after it happened. <a href="https://www.dexerto.com/entertainment/tiktok-star-zoe-laverne-admits-she-caught-feelings-for-underage-fan-1442237/">Dexerto reported</a> that Laverne wrote on what appears to be her private Instagram account: "Before anything was leaked I did tell his mom we kissed. She wasn't happy obviously but she understood that we are both teenagers and that feelings can be caught."</p><p>Laverne's mother has publicly defended her daughter. In a livestream, Laverne's mother said: "Anybody can reach over and kiss somebody. They're best friends." In response to the backlash against Laverne, her mother said: "This needs to stop you guys — why are you doing this?"</p><p>Other famous <keyword id="8637178" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="tiktokers">TikTokers</keyword> <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CHGb4b4H93J/">like Isaak Presley</a> have spoken out against Laverne.</p><p>"Friends go to the park together, do starb runs, play among us. not fall for prepubescent minors when you're 19. you were in school already when he was being born," Presley wrote, adding that he underwent <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CHGb4b4H93J/">a "traumatizing sexual thing"</a> at age 14 with a 19-year-old woman.</p><p>"As a young boy you're fascinated by girls and with puberty and all the new hormones, attraction levels and interest are spiking," he wrote. "IT IS OUR JOB, as adults, as positive influences in those younger than us lives, to guide and help someone."</p><p>Laverne's actions follow a string of sexual-misconduct allegations against top-tier TikTok influencers. In June, the TikTok photographer <a href="https://www.insider.com/tiktok-photographer-bryant-eslava-accused-of-soliciting-nude-fan-photos-2020-6">Bryant Eslava apologized</a> for soliciting nudes from "girls" on his Tumblr blog. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Tati Bruening, 19, has built a business around taking portraits of <keyword id="6762469" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="TikTok">TikTok</keyword> stars like Chase Hudson (26 million followers) and his friends. </li><li>She has become the choice fashion and portrait photographer for many of these Gen-Z <keyword id="1112328" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Influencers">influencers</keyword>.</li><li>Bruening told Business Insider that she first got in touch with TikTok creators by direct messaging them on Instagram.</li><li>She shared how she got started and how she became an influencer herself with nearly 1 million followers on TikTok.</li></ul><p>TikTok star Chase Hudson – better known as Lil Huddy with 26 million followers – is obsessed with fashion, and when he wants to shoot a look, he'll often contact 19-year-old photographer Tati Bruening. </p><p>Bruening has become the choice fashion and portrait photographer for many TikTok influencers like Hudson and his internet famous friends. Her business started last fall when TikTok began to surge in popularity and breakout stars like Addison Rae and Charli D'Amelio <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/viral/meet-charli-d-amelio-tiktok-s-newest-viral-teen-celebrity-n1092626">were starting to make headlines</a>.</p><p>"I was addicted to TikTok and I would sit and scroll for hours and hours," Bruening told Business Insider. "I saw the potential in the talent and the e-boy scene. These are good looking boys that could have a career in modeling, why aren't we taking advantage of this?"</p><p>Chase Keith (<a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@chaser?lang=en">4 million followers</a>) and Ellie Zeiler (<a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@elliezeiler?lang=en">7.7 million followers</a>) were among some of the first big TikTok creators who gave Bruening chance, she said. </p><p>But how did she manage to catch the attention of TikTok's most prominent creators? </p><p>She sent a simple direct message, like "Let's shoot!" to dozens of creators through Instagram. Unlike LinkedIn or Twitter, on Instagram users can <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-reach-influencers-instagram-direct-message-tiktok-youtube-stars-2020-5">direct message anyone</a> – no matter how famous they are. </p><p>Online, Bruening goes by the name "Illumitati," and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/illumitati/?hl=en">she has 154,000 followers on Instagram</a> and 903,000 followers on TikTok. She's working on expanding her business and she signed with the talent management firm Outshine Talent this month (<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/top-influencer-agents-managers-database-youtube-instagram-tiktok-2020-6">the firm also manages creators like Charli D'Amelio</a>).</p><p>Bruening isn't the first photographer to also become an influencer. Others — <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/24/style/bryant-eslava-photographer.html">like Bryant Eslava who's known for his photos of David Dobrik's Vlog Squad, The Hype House, and Emma Chamberlain —</a> have created businesses around taking photos of influencers for brand deals and other commercial photography.</p><p>"I've only been doing studio photography for a few months now," Bruening said. "I was able to connect with bigger and bigger clients because I built my TikTok following and Instagram following so rapidly. It was like if you can't beat them join them sort of thing. If I can't get through to them on this level, then I just need to become an influencer." </p> <h2><strong>In the studio with TikTok stars </strong></h2><p>Bruening's photography career first started to take off in 2019 during her senior year of high school when she became a concert photographer and started taking press photos at shows for artists like T-Pain, Zara Larsson, and Oliver Tree. </p><p>At the beginning of 2020, she attended Playlist Live Orlando, an annual convention for YouTube and TikTok creators. Bruening said while she was there, she snuck into the TikTok Creator Lounge (which she didn't have access to) and networked with the creators. </p><p>"I convinced security I was somebody, when I was nobody," she said. "I went around and asked all these creators if I could take a five-minute photoshoot with them, and I wound up getting all their numbers and texting them the photos. I really needed those photos to be decent enough to get their number and connect with them for later stuff."</p><p>Her concert photography business ended after the coronavirus pandemic hit the US in March, and that's when she decided to focus full-time on TikTok portraits. </p><p>"I sat in my room and I studied light, I studied retouching, and how a studio functions," she said. "Just researching and doing everything that I could to figure out how fashion photography works." </p><p>By the end of May, Bruening had her first studio session with TikTok star Zieler, who had under 100,000 followers at the time. </p><p>"Eventually, I got to this point where Lil Huddy DM'd me and said, 'Hey, when are we shooting?'" she said. "A bunch of these really, really awesome people started having interest in me, and I think that was after I had done a shoot with <a href="https://www.instagram.com/luvanthony/?hl=en">luvanthony</a> and became connected with TalentX." </p><p>She makes money by charging her clients a fee per shoot (she declined to disclose her exact rates) and she plans to release Adobe Lightroom presets (or custom photo filters) soon, <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2018/11/influencers-are-now-monetizing-custom-photo-filters/575686/">which has become one popular way influencers make money from their followers</a>.</p><p>Clients will hire her to take fun photos of them for Instagram, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/top-influencer-merchandise-companies-for-youtube-tiktok-creators-2020-10">shoot promotional images of their merchandise</a>, or photos an influencer needs for a specific brand deal, she said. </p><p>Recently, Bruening has collaborated with 23-year-old fashion stylist <a href="https://www.instagram.com/tabitharsanchez/?hl=en">Tabitha Sanchez</a>, and together they have worked on shoots for TikTok creators like Sienna Mae Gomez (<a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@siennamae?lang=en">7.9 million followers</a>), Larray (<a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@larrayeeee?lang=en">17.9 million followers</a>), and Willy Wonka TikTok (<a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@willywonkatiktok?lang=en">16 million followers</a>). Sanchez got her start styling TikTok influencers during quarantine, and she first connected with influencers by emailing their agents, <a href="https://www.vogue.com/article/tik-tok-stylist-tabitha-sanchez-chase-hudson-lil-huddy">she told Vogue</a>. </p><p>If Bruening has one rule she hopes every creator follows it's to always tag the person's Instagram handle when you post an image they took or styled.</p><p>It's a "frustration in the community not to be properly credited," she said. Meet the 19-year-old photographer who has built a business taking portraits of TikTok stars like Chase Hudson and Avani Gregg

<p>Hi, and welcome to this week's Influencer Dashboard newsletter!</p><p>This is Amanda Perelli, and I'll be briefing you on what's new in the business of influencers and creators.</p><p>This week, my colleague Dan Whateley took readers inside the new TikTok talent company, TalentX Entertainment. </p><p><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tiktok-app-online-website-video-sharing-2019-7">TikTok</a>, the short-form video app, has become one of the hottest social platforms among <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/generation-z">Generation Zers</a>. With the sudden rise in popularity, the need for <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/top-talent-managers-of-youtube-creators-influencers-power-list-2019-10">talent-management firms</a> dedicated to helping these new teen creators has expanded.</p><p>Los Angeles-based TalentX has a current roster of 32 influencers, most of whom are primarily TikTokkers.</p><p>"These guys are the next generation of YouTubers, like it or not," said Michael Gruen, vice president of talent. "When you put a video with their name in the headlines, they're going to get a 100,000 views. It's a phenomenon that no one's taking advantage of."</p><p>TalentX even has its own TikTok "collab house," a Bel Air mansion called The Sway House where six of its influencer clients live and make videos (<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/03/style/hype-house-los-angeles-tik-tok.html">similar to the popular LA home Hype House</a>). 4 creators reveal what the platform paid them in 2019.</a></h2><p>To officially wrap up 2019, I took a look at how much four YouTube creators with completely different channels earned from Google-placed ads last year.</p><p><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-much-youtube-pays-for-views-100-thousand-million-150-2020-1">From our previous coverage</a>, we've learned that how much money a YouTube creator makes varies wildly depending on a number of factors, like a video's watch time, length, and viewer demographic.</p><p>I spoke to four YouTube influencers - Shelby Church, Kevin David, Sienna Santer, and Andrei Jikh - who broke down how much money YouTube paid them for the entire year of 2019.</p><p>In general, business-related YouTube channels earn more per 1,000 views (called the CPM rate) compared with other types. </p><p>For instance, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-much-money-youtube-creators-influencers-make-in-one-year-2020-1#kevin-david-400000-2">Kevin David (856,000 subscribers)</a>, posts videos about how to make money online and on Amazon. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-much-money-youtube-creators-influencers-make-in-one-year-2020-1#kevin-david-400000-2">He told me</a> that his YouTube channel earned over $400,000 in 2019 from the ads in his videos. </p><p><strong><em><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-much-money-youtube-creators-influencers-make-in-one-year-2020-1">Read the full post to see how much each of these 4 influencers earned in 2019 from ads</a>. </em></strong></p><h2><a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQiu-LsF-h7lrKy26C4GRRQ">Creator Spotlight: Jared Watney</a></h2><p>This week, I'm highlighting Jared Watney and his YouTube channel for our Creator Spotlight.</p><p>Similar to Bravo's reality series "Below Deck," Watney's YouTube channel takes viewers inside the world of luxury yachts - and what it's like to work on one. </p><p>Watney, who is from South Africa, launched his YouTube channel as a way to share his experience <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXnOCee_DaM">living and working on a yacht</a>. Enslava is known for posting pics of the most fab festival-goers and partiers wherever he goes. Let's take a look at some of this other subjects.</p><div><div></div></div><p class="embed-spacer">&#xa0;<br><a href="https://instagram.com/scarlettleithold/">Scarlett Leithold</a>, pictured above, is a model signed with Wilhelmina.</br></p><div><div></div></div><p class="embed-spacer"></p><p class="embed-spacer">Boho style and short shorts tend to catch Eslava's eye, apparently.</p><p class="embed-spacer"><a href="https://instagram.com/thecobrasnake">The Cobrasnake</a>, alias Mark Hunter, also took his fair share of festival photos. Getting on his radar is a good move for anyone whose list of goals includes "be a social media It Girl." Failing that, pile on the short shorts and bracelets.
