The Mumbai-based auto major on Monday launched a midsize SUV coupe <keyword id="20400827" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Curvv" source="keywords">Curvv</keyword> with petrol and diesel powertrains with a price starting at Rs 9.99 lakh. The company has already unveiled the electric version of the model in August. The model would be competing with the likes of <keyword id="2883300" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai-Creta" source="Orion">Hyundai Creta</keyword>, <keyword id="7720018" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kia-Seltos" source="Orion">Kia Seltos</keyword>, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Honda Elevate, among others. "Curvv is being positioned in the fast-growing, mid-size SUV segment, which is roughly 16% of the whole industry (passenger vehicle) size. If translated into numbers, it would be like 7 lakh units a year," Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle MD Shailesh Chandra told PTI in an interaction. The segment is very competitive with various brands having a product already in the market, he noted. Therefore, if one enters this segment so late, then it will have to think of coming up with a slightly differentiated approach, Chandra said. "And that was the thinking behind Curvv, which comes with an SUV coupe body style. We saw that this was gaining popularity globally, especially in the premium or luxury segment," he added. Further, he said: "So we thought, why don't we bring this into the crowded segment as a fresh, refreshing kind of a body style." When asked about sales expectations from the model, Chandra said: "We have come with this model, with the best in class features. It's a differentiated product in this and therefore we think it is going to perform well." He noted that Tata Motors currently has a market share of around 19% in the SUV segment and expects the new model to help it grow further. "We'll gain from where we are. The market leader in SUVs would be, say, 21-22 %, so it's a crowded segment. It's not that one player is holding the roost here. "All the top 3-4 players in SUVs are around the same market share figure," Chandra said. He noted that the company is also looking to enhance its dealer network by around 10-15 % in the next one year. "We have a very aggressive plan of expanding dealerships. We will need to have an enhanced network. We will have to make them bigger, also in size. And therefore, for EVs, we have started separation of the outlets. So there will be expansion in touchpoints, not only on the sales side, but big time on the service side as well," Chandra said. <keyword id="20400828" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-curvv" source="keywords">Tata Curvv</keyword> comes with two petrol and a diesel engine option. "The introduction of the Curvv further enhances our SUV portfolio as a comprehensive mid-SUV product with multiple powertrains, several first-in-segment features, a brand new capable architecture - ATLAS and Level 2 ADAS," Chandra said. Besides Curvv, Tata Motors sells models like Punch, Nexon, Harrier and Safari in the domestic market.

New Delhi, <keyword id="4151067" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kia-india" source="Orion">Kia India</keyword> on Tuesday unveiled the updated version of its mid-sized sports utility vehicle Seltos, as it aims to garner a 10 per cent market share in the domestic passenger vehicle (PV) segment. The automaker, which currently has a market share of around 7 per cent in the domestic market, also aims to double its existing sales network to 600 plus outlets from over 300. "Seltos is the product with which we entered India, and since then, the journey of Kia India and the Seltos has been almost identical. We have a segment disruptor and a segment winner in the new Seltos and are confident to take forward the strong legacy of the <keyword id="17897717" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="brand-seltos" source="Orion">Brand Seltos</keyword> to lead the premium RV market," Kia India Managing Director and CEO Tae-Jin Park said. This strategic launch is key to the company's ambitions of attaining a 10 per cent market share soon, he added. "We feel that there is a lot of growth potential in the mid-SUV segment, and the new Seltos will grow the premium end of it," Park noted. With the refreshed look, most powerful engine in the segment, and host of safety and smart features, the new Seltos inevitably will emerge as the most preferred drive for new-age customers, he added. Seltos brand currently contributes 55 per cent to Kia India's overall sales. It is one of the biggest brands for the Kia Corporation, with one out of every ten Kia cars sold globally being a Seltos. The new Seltos comes with all-new interiors and various safety features, including level 2 advanced driver assistance systems. The model is powered by 1.5-litre petrol and diesel powertrains mated with manual and automatic transmissions. Kia will open the bookings for the model, which would be available in 18 trims, on July 14 and commence sales on July 25.

It grew so fast that it took up the fifth position in sales, beating Honda and Toyota. In October alone, Kia sold 12,800 cars, whereas its bookings raced past 50,000. Kia Seltos has also been nominated for the 2020 World Car of the year. On Dhanteras, an Indian festival, Kia delivered over 2100 cars. What worked in Kia’s favour, is that all three of its variants are BSVI compliant. Most other companies are still selling their BSIV models even as the Indian government set an April 2020 deadline to sell them. This is one of the many reasons for the auto slowdown. Meanwhile, MG Hector— India’s first internet car —launched in June. It got 10,000 bookings with a 4-month wait period. The carmaker had to stop taking bookings after the number hit 21,000 and later restarted. It also delivered 700 units of MG Hector on Dhanteras day. Both these cars are SUVs. While the price for Kia Seltos ranges between ₹9.6-16 lakhs, MG Hector ranges between ₹12-₹16.8 lakhs.

His recent role as President at Kia Mexico played a pivotal role in the company's substantial growth and establishment as a production and export hub, the company said. Kia India names Gwanggu Lee as new MD, CEO

South Korean auto major <keyword id="20190176" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hyundai-motor" source="keywords">Hyundai Motor</keyword> Group on Thursday said it is looking to expand the annual production capacity across <keyword id="19906087" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai" source="keywords">Hyundai</keyword> and <keyword id="19997865" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kia" source="keywords">Kia</keyword> brands in India to 15 lakh units per year, as part of its mid-to-long-term strategy in the country. Outlining the company's strategy for the India market, Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) Executive Chair Euisun Chung said the automaker plans to roll out more <keyword id="19962337" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="EVs" source="keywords">EVs</keyword>, while also utilising the country as an export hub for the neighbouring countries. Chung visited India on April 23 to review the group's mid-to-long-term strategies to solidify its position as a leading mobility provider. Hyundai Motor Group is expanding its manufacturing footprint in the Indian region with the establishment of an annual production system of 1.5 million vehicle units for Hyundai Motor India and Kia India combined, the automaker stated. Hyundai Motor India will start operating its Pune plant, acquired from General Motors last year, in the second half of the next year. Hyundai Motor is currently making improvements to the facility to create a production hub capable of building more than 200,000 units annually, it said. With the addition of the Chennai plant's production capacity of 824,000 units, Hyundai Motor will have an annual production capacity of over one million units when combined with the Pune plant, it added. Besides, Kia India's yearly production capacity will also be expanded to 431,000 units within the first half of this year. "Combined together, Hyundai Motor Group will have the ability to produce approximately 1.5 million units annually in India," HMG said. The group also plans to expand its EV lineup and create an EV ecosystem to accelerate customer uptake and expand charging infrastructure. It will also strengthen its SUV sales leadership in India, HMG said. Hyundai Motor India plans to unveil its first locally produced EV in India next year, it said. Starting with the mass production of its first <keyword id="21425421" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="electric-SUV-model" source="keywords">electric SUV model</keyword> at the Chennai plant at the end of 2024, the company plans to further produce five EV models by 2030, it added. Hyundai Motor India will also utilize its sales network hubs, expanding the number of EV charging stations to 485 by 2030, HMG said. Kia India will also start production of its local EV model in 2025 and plans to further expand its EV models, it added. The company will also focus on building EV charging infrastructure, it stated. "India is among the fastest-growing economies globally, and as this growth continues the strategic importance of Hyundai Motor India will only increase," Chung said while addressing employees in a town hall meeting. He further said, "by leveraging our strong reputation and competitive quality in India, we aim to expand exports to neighbouring countries, making India the global export hub to boost our regional market competitiveness." Chung said that by around 2030, the automaker expects to see a substantial expansion in the EV market in India. "In anticipation of this evolution, Hyundai is focused on developing locally tailored EVs aimed at establishing us as a leading global EV brand," he added. "We also plan to proactively build charging stations at strategic locations 'including dealerships' to facilitate the adoption of EVs," Chung said. Hyundai plans to scale up production capacity, introduce more EVs in India

The share of an automatic transmission is on a steady rise from CY 2015 when it was 23 per cent to 33 per cent in CY 2022, up from 30 per cent in CY 2021 because of convenience and higher fuel efficiency and EV penetration continues to remain stagnant at 1 per cent of total vehicle sales across categories in India. Car maker Kia Motors India rebrands itself as Kia India

New Delhi, Jan 7 () Kia Motors India (KMI) on Tuesday said it has appointed Tae-Jin Park as Executive Director and Chief Sales Officer with immediate effect.
Park, who replaces Yong S Kim, will be responsible for driving Kia Motors' sales, marketing, service and network development in the Indian market, the company said in a statement.
Kim is moving back to Kia Motors Corporation headquarters in Seoul. He had played an instrumental role in establishing Kia in India, setting up its sales network and contributed to positioning the brand amongst the top five automobile manufacturers in just four months of operations, it added.
Commenting on the appointment, Kia Motors India Managing Director &amp; CEO Kookhyun Shim said Park comes with immense knowledge of global markets and expertise in penetrating a new market.
"We have witnessed a huge demand for Seltos in India and the love for brand Kia grows continuously. We are confident with Park's joining Kia will grow from strength to strength," he added.
Shim further said, "With the launch of Carnival and our compact SUV lined up this year, I am sure he will help us propel forward the success of Seltos and find a place for Kia cars in many more households in India".
KMI said Park brings over 30 years' experience in the automotive industry to his new role, having most recently served at the Kia Motor Corporation headquarters as the head of operations for the Middle East, Africa and Asia base in Seoul, South Korea.

After fees, the car came to $360,400.<h2>Old money meets modern tech </h2>In the two decades since the Continental GT debuted, its looks haven't changed much. Its iconic circular headlights, large mesh grille, bulky figure, wide rear fenders, and smooth exterior lines are all still there, and its styling has gone from "ornate" to "very ornate." The Continental GT has two doors and four seats, but <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lexus-lc-lc500-luxury-coupe-greatest-car-grand-tourer-touring-2020-7">like many grand tourers</a>, the cramped back row is more of a purse shelf than anything. The infotainment screen folded into the glossy carbon-fiber dashboard when the car turned off, erasing modern technology and restoring the look of old money so integral to the Bentley or Rolls-Royce ambiance. The car was also full of diamond patterns — on the doors, seats, cupholders, switches, handles, and speaker mesh, among other places. It made every corner, braking like the hands of God stopping a bus in its tracks.The Continental was suave and cool, even if it was a little out of place. I got stares from drivers and pedestrians alike. A group of kids yelled after me to ask if I was in a Rolls-Royce, but I didn't want to get into the history of all that. When you're shopping for a car in this territory, you can compare features or prices. Review: Driving the $360,000 Bentley Continental GT Speed is the closest I'll ever get to heaven on Earth

<ul><li>Chinese car manufacturers Great Wall Motor (GWM) and <keyword id="8533178" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="FAW-Haima">FAW Haima</keyword> showcased their first vehicles for the Indian market in the Auto Expo 2020. </li><li>The news came after China’s car sales <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/fd99301a-35f2-11ea-a6d3-9a26f8c3cba4">tumbled</a> for the second year in a row, analysts are unsure of the recovery. </li><li>HS Markit estimated India to take over Japan by 2025 and become the world’s third-largest car market after China. </li></ul>As if 10 months of straight fall in <a href="https://www.livemint.com/auto-news/india-auto-sales-decline-for-10th-straight-month-worst-slump-in-two-decades-1568010510610.html">Indian auto sales</a> was not enough, car markers like Maruti and Mahindra are now faced with a rush of Chinese peers driven to India by Beijing's one-car policy. Chinese car manufacturers Great Wall Motor (GWM) and FAW Haima showcased their first vehicles in India at the Auto Expo in February. FAW Hamina will also be launching FAW Haima 8S, a mid-size SUV in India. Chinese manufacturer <keyword id="142901" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SAIC-Motor">SAIC Motor</keyword> has been selling MG cars in India for the last one year. Another Chinese brand BYD Auto which makes electric buses in India has also announced plans of launching electric vans. This will bring a new phase of competition in the Indian car market, <a href="https://www.motilaloswal.com/site/rreports/HTML/637169279782980001/index.htm">said</a> Motilal Oswal brokerage. Currently, Japanese joint venture <keyword id="44883" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> and South Korea’s Hyundai dominate the Indian market. Added to that, the market is also replete with German and other foreign automakers like Ford, Skoda, Renault and Audi. And these existing market players too had to resort to price cuts and other measures to clear their inventory ahead of a change in emission regulation would make BSIV cars irrelevant to the market.  In spite of a sales slowdown, the demand however is higher for those cars which comply with changed emission norms. MG Hector belongs to this category. Both its launches were successful as the bookings crossed 50,000 units in eight months since its launch. Another recent entrant is the South Korea-based Kia Motors, which debuted with Kia Seltos, a mid size SUV in August 2019. Seltos became another hot seller that gave tough competition to Hector.  Chinese auto giants need India A new market is necessary for Chinese car makers as their sales <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/fd99301a-35f2-11ea-a6d3-9a26f8c3cba4">tumbled</a> for the second year in a row. A reason for the declining sales could be Beijing’s one-car policy. Several Chinese cities over the last few years introduced a quota on car ownership, which limits the number of new cars registered in the city during a year. It also states that only one car can be registered locally per person. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the sales dropped almost 8.2% to 25.8 million vehicles in 2019. Puneet Gupta, an analyst at <keyword id="3534353" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ihs-markit">IHS Markit</keyword>, told <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/cdd17dc6-5314-11ea-8841-482eed0038b1">FT</a>, “They have been planning their India entry strategy for years. Finally, we are now seeing a lot of action.” IHS Markit estimated that India will overtake Japan by 2025 to become the world’s third-largest car market after China. And China is keen on reaching out to this emerging market. GWM unveiled its Haval brand of a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and vehicle concept 2025 during the Auto Expo 2020. It also plans to invest around ₹7,000 crore in India in manufacturing plants, vehicle research and development, production of power batteries and electric drives, vehicle and component manufacturing.
