<ul><li><keyword id="9349591" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="blusmart" source="Orion">BluSmart</keyword> is poised to double its fleet by the end of the year and aims to have over 1,00,000 EVs on its platform by 2025.</li><li>Back in 20221, <keyword id="15125737" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jio-BP-and-BluSmart" source="Orion">Jio-BP and BluSmart</keyword> joined hands to set up EV charging stations in India.</li><li>BluSmart has the largest fleet of electric cabs and the largest network of EV fast charging stations across Delhi NCR, according to the company.</li></ul>As India rides on the EV bandwagon with the government promoting several use cases, BluSmart is poised to double its fleet by the end of the year and aims to have over 1,00,000 EVs on its platform by 2025.<br /><br />Rishabh Sood, CTO, BluSmart, told IANS that from a charging infrastructure perspective, both state and central government responses have been great and have floated many projects on a PPP basis.<br /><br />With the ever-growing customer base, Sood added, it is imperative to have BluSmart's services up and running with zero downtime and for this, the startup relies on various AWS services to build a strong foundation.<br /><br />Here are the excerpts from an interview:<br /><br />Q: What is BluSmart's USP? How do you differentiate yourself from other players in the <keyword id="6744459" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="EV-fleet" source="Orion">EV fleet</keyword> landscape?<br /><br />A: BluSmart is the only ride hailing service in the country that ensures zero emission, zero surge and zero ride denials to its customers and zero financial investment from its driver partners.<br /><br />We believe the source of our sustainable competitive advantage is that we have built multiple small MOATs around various parts of the business, which are collectively keeping us ahead of the curve.<br /><br />On the customer end, by solving for the core issue of hassles of ride booking, cancellations, surge and unclean cars we have been able to build a very loyal customer base. This hassle free experience of zero surge, zero cancellation and clean cars with courteous drivers being achieved every day repeatedly is starting to become a habit.<br /><br />On the driver end, by solving for the core issue of driver partners' inability to buy, own and maintain assets, we have been able to build loyalties on the drier partner side, which is immensely important since they are the brand custodians on the roads and are the ones who uphold the brand promise every time.<br /><br />On the technology side, by solving for the core issue of "fuel being a constraint" with EVs as against ICE powered vehicles where the ride-hails tech historically has not been required to worry about the fuel inside the car. Building a technology backend which is born electric and takes a full stack approach towards solving for ride matching at scale where no human is required to take decisions and the technology optimally guides the drivers right from picking up customers to reaching the nearest EV charging stations when running out of charge.<br /><br />On the partner ecosystem side, by solving for the core issue of having partners who have a purpose and a vision that feeds into each other's ambitions. Having partners like BP Ventures who come with the right global experience around energy and team building.<br /><br />Having partners like JioBP, which is a JV between Reliance and BP in India and having the backing of the largest enterprise in India in building more EV charging infra. Having partners like Tata Motors, who have decades of experience in automobiles and have taken the right stand when it comes to EVs and is able to support the growth ambitions of BluSmart.<br /><br />Q: For India to achieve its vision of reducing emission intensity by 45 per cent by 2030 and reach the net-zero target by 2070, EV would have to go mainstream. What are some of the biggest roadblocks you see today in India, be it in the manufacturing, EV financing, regulatory and policy landscape?<br /><br />A: The country has faced supply and delivery challenges in the past in getting EVs from leading OEMs around the country due to the semiconductor chip crisis in the past 3 years. Since, the supply chain and semiconductor issues have now started to relax, we are seeing an accelerated movement towards vehicle production and delivery.<br /><br />We believe that the manufacturing of EVs needs to be scaled up massively to support the increased adoption of EVs which in turn will lead to economies of scale. Also entry of established players into the EV industry will provide a variety of options to the common man.<br /><br />From a charging infrastructure perspective, both state and central government response have been great and have floated many projects on a PPP basis. We have also partnered up with giants such as Jio BP to help our expansion plans and create more charging infrastructure. Ramping up of charging infrastructure will play a key role in achieving net zero emission.<br /><br />Q: Tell us about the scale of your operations/size of EV fleet in India and your projected growth trajectory over the next 5 years?<br /><br />A: BluSmart currently operates an electric fleet of 2,200+ EVs on its platform. BluSmart Mobility is the most preferred mode of public transportation across Delhi NCR having completed 2.5 million+ all electric trips, covering over 86 million+ clean kms with over 900,000+ app downloads with an app rating of 4.9 out of 5.0 in the last year. It has the largest fleet of electric cabs and the largest network of EV fast charging stations across Delhi NCR.<br /><br />On September 26, 2022, BluSmart expanded geographically and started its operations in Bengaluru as its second city. BluSmart is poised to double its fleet by the end of the year and aims to have over 1,00,000 EVs on our platform by 2025.<br /><br />Q: What has AWS and cloud technology enabled you to do better?<br /><br />A: AWS is our trusted cloud partner for its feature rich and highly performant ecosystem of diversified services.<br /><br />With the ever growing customer base, it is imperative to have BluSmart's services up and running with zero downtime and this is where Amazon CloudWatch helps to preemptively learn metrics breach and remediate the same automatically.<br /><br />BluSmart uses Amazon Aurora, which is designed for exceptionally high performance and availability at a global scale with full MySQL and PostgreSQL compatibility. We adopted Aurora because it gives us the ability to manage our data at a large scale without having to deal with maintenance and optimizations at our end.<br /><br />At BluSmart every decision we make is driven by data hence we wanted a petabyte-scale data warehouse service that makes it simple and cost-effective to efficiently analyze data using existing business intelligence tools therefore we decided to go with Amazon Redshift as it provides constant monitoring of operations, logs, auditing, and traceability. We discovered key improvements in cost and performance for improving speed to market and operational efficiency.<br /><br />During our peak demand periods, we rely on AWS Autoscaling to handle high surge in requests by scaling containers and Database read replicas to provide seamless and elated customer experience.<br /><br />We at BluSmart are focused on the security of our data, infrastructure and resources and we rely on various AWS security services to build a strong foundation.<br /><br />We will continue to explore further on AWS in the future, adding new features and capabilities along the way.<br /><br />Q. In terms of business outcomes, what benefits have you experienced because of running on AWS? Please provide metrics where applicable:<br /><br />A: We have been able to bring efficiency in handling the demand and process performance by reducing the effort of self managing and monitoring the infrastructure. BluSmart to set up EV charging infra projects across India in PPP mode

Weak rainfall in India since the start June, when the monsoon season began, has raised concerns of a first drought in five years, although weather experts are hopeful rains will revive in the next week.</p></div><p></p></div></div>The hedge fund industry has had a tough run. </p><p><span>The average hedge fund has returned around 3% so far this year, according to Goldman Sachs, while the S&amp;P 500 is up around 7%.</span></p><p><span>The hedge funds themselves have <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/hedge-funds-are-having-a-shocker-here-are-2016-8">had a plethora of excuses for this poor performance</a>, ranging</span><span> from the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/this-is-why-hedge-funds-are-underperforming-so-badly-barclays-2016-8">size of the industry</a> to its <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/hedge-funds-would-profit-from-diversity-point72-president-says-2016-7">lack of diversity</a>.</span></p><p><span>One of the recurring complaints is that they are all investing in the same things, which is otherwise known as crowding. </span></p><p>Crowding hasn't always been a problem. It used to work. In fact, piling in to popular names has traditionally been a winning bet.</p><p>But since the tail end of 2015, indexes populated by crowded names have been dropping sharply, affecting a big chunk of the hedge fund industry. In an important development for the industry, there are signs that that is starting to change. </p><p>Goldman Sachs just published its hedge fund monitor report, and found that the performance of its hedge fund VIP basket, a group of stocks that are hedge fund favorites, has started to turn around. Here's Goldman:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"From August 2015 through June 2016, the VIP basket lagged the S&amp;P 500 by nearly 1500 bp (-17% vs. -3%), a period of historically poor weakness exceeding even the 2008 financial crisis. However, during the post-Brexit equity rally, the basket has begun to claw back, outperforming the S&amp;P 500 by nearly 500 bp (+14.5% vs. +9.8%)."</p><p>And here is a chart showing the rebound:</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Goldman Sachs</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>That isn't to say everything is fine and dandy in hedge fund land. Even with this rebound, performance is still underwhelming. Here's Goldman again:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"Even with the recent rally in the most popular long positions, the average hedge fund has returned just 3% YTD, lagging the S&amp;P 500 for the eighth year in a row. The tide may be turning for the hedge fund industry

While many are already being used, we just need to expand their use rather than<br />

One such area with very significant impact on businesses, consumers and our lives as a whole is <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=MACHINE+TO+MACHINE">Machine-to-Machine</a> (<keyword id="6404332" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="M2M">M2M</keyword>) communications.<br />

M2M communication is a vital key to creating a digital infrastructure in any country and enable digital delivery of services, while bringing in significant efficiencies in our daily lives.<br />

The benefits of M2M have been few as the deployment has either been limited to pilots or a few pockets. And for this, we need to expand and scale the use of M2M.<br />
<br />
In simple terms M2M is much like people-to-people conversations and use of data services via mobile devices that we take for granted today. Now, the same telecom networks are being used to help machines talk to each other.<br />
<br />
So the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ELECTRICITY">electricity </a>meter at your home automatically sends power consumed data to the utility office to generate a bill. Or chips embedded in thousands of mobile towers across the country relay information to telco offices about diesel consumption (that run the towers), any leakages or faults with the tower so relevant teams are alerted for actions to be taken — fix a leak or replenish diesel. Or in yet another scenario, a bus sends information on empty seats to a ticker at the bus stop on how many seats are empty, helping commuters at the bus stop to decide whether to board the bus or not!<br />
<br />
All the above mentioned things take place without any manual intervention—and via machines talking to each other. The machines — be it electric meters, mobile towers or seats in a bus — are embedded with Subscriber Identity Module (SIM; in case of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=gsm">GSM </a>networks) cards. The machines use mobile towers to exchange data at pre-set time — it could be once a month for applications like billing, or real time for applications like seats in a bus. Several M2M technologies also use short range networks like WiFi.<br />
<br />
There are many distinct areas where machines have used using M2M to emerge as subscribers to telecom networks. One is power, where SIM-based meter readers will send alerts to suppliers on power thefts and to subscribers on their consumption as well as when bills are due for payment. The second is transport and telematics, where M2M devices will be used for tracking vehicles, checking fuel consumption, routes taken by driver and to diagnose engine as well.<br />

The third segment is handheld point of sales systems, which can be used for remote banking. Such systems are already in use and this will only expand as it helps in bringing banks closer to the unbanked population.<br />
<br />
Another area is telemetry, which includes everything else you may want to monitor remotely. For example, a blood pressure (BP) monitor can be embedded with a SIM card to relay information about health of chronic BP patients to doctors over telecom networks. Basically, M2M will improve efficiencies in the system and it will be live, 24X7. For telcos, this could be a new revenue stream which will emerge as a significant business in future.<br />
<br />
The applications of M2M are really vast and often it’s limited by imagination. Come to think of it, M2M can be vital for smart cars and smart cities. For instance, there is lot of buzz around concepts like the connected car. In such a scenario, Internet-enabled cars communication is the key. In case of emergencies like accidents, machines can bring assistance to the passengers even if they are unable to communicate their situation. For instance: The car may then send a signal to the nearest hospital and police station so that the passengers may get some help in the time of emergency. Also, under the car’s hood, the connected parts relay information about faults to the dashboard. And this makes the driver informed about the car performance all the time. All this is a combination of M2M using short range and long range wireless technologies.<br />
<br />
M2M will not only make devices smarter, but the data, which is continuously gathered, will be vital to develop and improve future products as well. This is the right time to build and scale M2M applications as <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=4G">4G </a>networks that are currently being deployed, offer high speeds, security and ideally suited for data exchanges.<br />

You can easily replace the strap on the Galaxy Watch Ultra thanks to the dynamic lug, allowing you to get different straps. This also means that you cannot use your older straps with the watch.<br /><br />The Galaxy Watch Ultra is the largest among the smartwatches sold by the company at 47mm. Considering the display and the battery size, the watch is on the heavier side at 60.5 grams.<br /><br />Despite being packed with features and offering a durable design, the Galaxy Watch Ultra at 12.1mm is thinner than the Apple Watch Ultra.<br /><br />  <div type="image" title="Design" msid="113520482" hostid="261" sizebytes="63856" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra design&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />The Galaxy Watch Ultra has a circular face and is placed in a squarish design with rounded corners. While I was a bit sceptical of the design during the launch, it looks quite good when you actually wear it. It sits well on the hand and makes a separate place for itself in a market filled with circular smartwatches for Android devices.<br /><br />The smartwatch comes with a highly durable case built using Titanium Grade 4 that gives it a premium look and feel. It comes with Sapphire glass protection and offers a peak brightness of 3000 nits, ensuring excellent outdoor visibility.<br /><br />The watch is durable and I did not notice a single scratch during my usage.<br /><br /><h2>Software and app</h2>The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra runs on WearOS with One UI 6 Watch on top. This is basically WearOS with Samsung’s tweaks on top. The watch can be connected and managed using the Galaxy Wearable app, which is easy to use. To track your health and activities, you need to download the Samsung Health app.<br /><br />Like any WearOS or Samsung watch, the interface on the Galaxy Watch Ultra is smooth and easy to use. You can install applications from the Play Store and use them on the watch.<br /><br />You get a ton of watch faces and customisation options to choose from. If you aren’t happy with these, you also have the option to download more from the Play Store.<br /><br />The Galaxy Watch Ultra comes with its own watch face, offering a red-coloured night mode.<br /><br />Like most gadgets these days, the watch also comes with AI baked in, allowing you to quickly reply to messages and more.<br /><br />One issue that I faced with the watch is that for some important features such as taking an electrocardiogram (ECG) or getting a blood pressure report, you will need to connect to a Samsung smartphone. These features are not available on other Android smartphones.<br /><br /><h2>Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra features and performance</h2>The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra is powered by the Exynos W1000 chipset, equipped with a 5-core CPU, which is claimed to offer nearly four times better performance than its predecessor, along with 30% improved power efficiency. The chipset is paired with 2GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage.<br /><br />The Galaxy Watch Ultra comes with a new Siren feature, allowing you to hold down the Action Button to enable a loud siren, which can come in handy during emergencies.<br /><br />Samsung has packed the device with features and offers a ton of health tracking sensors. It comes with a new Samsung BioActive Sensor, which includes an optical bio-signal sensor, electrical heart signal and bioelectrical impedance analysis sensor.<br /><br />The watch also comes with an optical heart rate sensor, a temperature sensor, a light sensor, a geomagnetic sensor and more.<br /><br />For positioning, the Galaxy Watch Ultra comes with L1+LG dual-frequency GPS, offering improved accuracy.<br /><br />The watch accurately offers activity and fitness tracking, making it a great option for those looking for accurate activity tracking in a smartwatch.<br /><br />The watch was also accurately able to track my sleep patterns, along with blood oxygen during sleep, skin temperature, heart rate and respiratory rate. If you track your sleep regularly for seven days, it starts offering more insights about your sleep patterns and also offers recommendations.<br /><br />Another area where Samsung has deployed AI is to determine your energy score. It uses aspects such as sleep time and activity to help you determine your energy levels for the day. It also offers suggestions if any particular thing needs your attention.<br /><br />One of the key health metrics that the watch offers is ECG and BP tracking.<br /><br />The watch offers alerts for abnormally high or low heart rates and can detect irregular heart rhythms that can indicate atrial fibrillation.<br /><br />The Galaxy Watch Ultra is powered by a 590mAh battery, which is claimed to offer up to 100 hours of battery life with workout detection in power-saving mode.<br /><br />With AOD and regular HR tracking enabled, I managed to squeeze out nearly three days of battery life from the device, which is quite good.<br /><br />Samsung has offered a wireless magnetic charger with the watch and it does not work with regular wireless chargers. It takes nearly 2 hours to charge, so you need to plan accordingly.<br /><br /><h2>Verdict</h2>The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra is a feature-packed watch and is the only such option in the market. While watches from Garmin are packed with health tracking features, they lack the OS that Samsung offers and are not as fun to use.<br /><br />The Galaxy Watch Ultra ticks all the right boxes, including a vibrant display, durable design, excellent health and activity tracking and a decent battery life.
