According to <em>Inside Edge </em>star <keyword id="6366549" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="richa-chadda">Richa Chadda</keyword>, web series have pushed Bollywood to create better content. <br /><br />“The threat to cinema will not come from OTT platforms. It has actually nudged the Bollywood industry," said Chadda. <br /><br />Before her stint with Prime Video’s hit series on IPL, Chadda was known to play the off-beat roles like Bholi Punjaban in Fukrey - a hit Bollywood franchise. Later, she became one of the first few Bollywood actors to experiment with web series. <br /><strong><br />Good TV shows from the DD era </strong><br /><br />For Chadda, web series will bring bcl quality content like Hum log or Duniya which were a part of Indian TV, before they became mass entertainers with soap operas. Like many of her generation, she could not relate to Hindi television series and shifted to American shows. <br /><br />"There was a huge gap between the content I wanted to watch on television to what was available for my parents. When Inside Edge was offered to me, there was no Amazon Prime in India. When I said I will be doing this new web series, people were like <em>yeh kaun dekhega</em> (who will watch this?. But now, they are forced to take part in it," says Chadda, at the 14th India Digital Summit of IAMAI. <br /><br />Bollywood wants to be in par with OTT platforms <br /><br />A lot of talented Bollywood actors are finding a second coming in the original web series -- like Shefali Shah from Delhi Crime or Pankaj Tripathi from Mirzapur. <br /><br />"Two years ago, people used to say digital is the future. Now, it is the present. Some are exploiting the lack of censorship, while some are finding a balance. The production houses that are known for television, they tend to create shows on digital that are similar to television,” said Chadda delivering a critique on the quality of web series. <br /><br />According to Celebrity Brand Valuation Study 2019 by Duff and Phelps, web series are now attracting the best of Bollywood - including actors and directors. Anurag Kashyap, Karan Johar, and Zoya Akhtar are creating content exclusively for GenOTT, the report released on February 4, said. <br /><br />“OTT has changed my life because suddenly my audience is everywhere. It empowers me to be<br /><br />more complex, denser and [to not have] to explain so much. Since then, more than 50 women have <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/list-of-women-who-have-accused-harvey-weinstein-of-sexual-harassment-or-assault-2017-10">accused him</a> of rape, unwanted advances, and sexual harassment.</p><p>The avalanche of allegations has rocked the film and television world and has even <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/powerful-men-accused-of-sexual-misconduct-after-harvey-weinstein-list-2017-10">seeped into other industries</a>. In recent weeks, widespread discussions have sprung up among stars in Bollywood.</p><h2>'Everybody knows about it'</h2><p>In an interview with Business Insider, Akshay Kumar - one of the most famous actors in Bollywood - said sexual misconduct is "everywhere" and that the allegations against entertainment stars in the US may encourage other women around the world to speak up.</p><p>"It's just that when [sexual misconduct] happens in Hollywood, it comes out so big," Kumar told Business Insider. "Everybody knows about it, but it's everywhere."</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Sherwin Crasto/Getty Images</span></p><p class="caption">Twinkle Khanna and her husband, Akshay Kumar.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Twinkle Khanna, an author, film producer, and former Bollywood actor, believes that following the Weinstein allegations, more women in Hollywood are coming forward because they are fed up with mistreatment.</p><p>"It's an outreach that's been suppressed for very long," said Khanna, who is also Kumar's wife. "Women are tired of being grabbed and groped. Women are tired of bending over backwards to get ahead in the workforce, bending over backwards to the point where sometimes they have to lie horizontal in order to go forward."</p><p>Bollywood is <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/niallmccarthy/2014/09/03/bollywood-indias-film-industry-by-the-numbers-infographic/#ccb16d02488b">both larger and smaller</a> than Hollywood, depending on whether you measure size by ticket sales and movies produced (larger) or total revenue (smaller). But broadly speaking, the Indian film and TV industry is colossal. And in a country where patriarchal values still wield tremendous influence, sexual misconduct is especially concerning to a number of stars.</p><p>"We should not just let it be about 'Oh this man behaved like this' and 'This is so shocking,' or all of that," Shah Rukh Khan, another top movie star who's worked in Bollywood for three decades, told Business Insider. "But we should respect the emotion of the women taking such a strong step in coming out, and being so brave, and help stop this from happening in our individual industries."</p><p>Khan admitted his A-list status comes with some blind spots. When asked if he'd encountered or witnessed any sexual misconduct in his industry, he said he hadn't. But he was quick to concede that he is a successful man in a patriarchal system.</p><p>"The sad part of it is that you don't know if it could be happening right under your nose," Khan said.</p><h2>Women are overcoming the culture of shame</h2><p>Bollywood actresses and producers have <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/hindi/bollywood/kangana-ranauts-boldest-statements/kangana-ranauts-take-on-the-sexual-harassment-allegations-against-vikas-bahl/photostory/58129294.cms">reported</a> experiencing harassment before the Weinstein allegations. "Why would you say, 'Why now? Are you out of job? You didn't scream at that time. Where's the photo? Where's the video?' I should be allowed to talk about [sexual harassment] even from my death bed." </span></p><p><span>Stories from women in India's entertainment industry are starting to trickle out. In <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/film/2017/dec/13/bollywood-sexual-harassment-actors-speak-out-indian-cinema-open-secret">a recent report</a> from The Guardian, Bollywood actor Reena Saini accused casting director Sohan Thakur of groping her; Swara Bhasker, now an award-winning actor in India, alleged that, when she was new to the industry, a male director sent her incessant text messages on set and demanded she hug him while drunk. </span></p><p><span>Khanna said that she has heard rumors of sexual misconduct in Bollywood, and adds that she's "sure it exists in every profession - across the board." Khan echoed her sentiments.</span></p><p><span>"But I think that times are changing," Khanna said. "It's wonderful that women are standing up for something that's been going on for a long time, and hopefully, within a generation, we will come closer to this equality we're trying to achieve. Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar: Women speaking up about sexual misconduct is overdue

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="12266396" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="kumail-nanjiani" source="Orion">Kumail Nanjiani</keyword>'s Bollywood dance scene is a highlight of "<keyword id="12073116" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="eternals" source="Orion">Eternals</keyword>."</li><li>The star originally thought it would be a Bollywood action sequence.</li></ul><p>One of the best moments in <keyword id="11899344" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="marvel" source="Orion">Marvel</keyword>'s "<a href="https://www.insider.com/category/eternals">Eternals</a>" comes nearly an hour into the film when Kumail Nanjiani's character, Kingo, performs a Bollywood dance sequence.</p><p>Nanjiani said the short scene for a fictional film within the film, was "the hardest thing" for him during production, especially since he was originally under the impression that it would be a totally different scene.</p><p>"When we first talked about the <keyword id="11897475" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="movie" source="Orion">movie</keyword>, [director Chloé Zhao] was like, 'There's a Bollywood dance sequence,' and I was like, 'Chloe, I don't think I can do that,'" Nanjiani said during the film's virtual press conference in October, which Insider attended. "She's like, 'OK, we'll make it a Bollywood action scene.'"</p><p>Nanjiani's relief was short-lived.</p><p>"Soon as I got to London, she's like, 'It's a dance sequence,'" Nanjiani said. "I was like, 'Get me a dance teacher right now.'" </p><p>Nanjiani said the film's choreographer, Nileeka Bose, worked with him "for months and months" on the scene, which incorporates tens of dancers. 50 people are listed in the film's credits as Bollywood dancers. </p><p>On "The Tonight Show" with Jimmy Fallon, Nanjiani <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVSV41w6xP8">said he trained for four months</a>.</p><div type="image" title="Kumail Nianjiani as Kingo in &quot;Eternals.&quot;" height="1182" width="2834" msid="87547430" hostid="261"></div><p>"It was so outside my comfort zone," said Nanjiani during the press conference. And that, the proof lies in ticket sales. <br /><br />The show which will be held on September 18, has already sold out a majority of its seats. As of September 17, only 55 seats of the total 2,500 are available on<a href="https://in.bookmyshow.com/events/iifa-awards/ET00111132"> bookmyshow.com</a>. This is even as the ticket prices have gone up in the last few years. <br /><br />Depending on the proximity to the stage, the tickets are retailed between ₹10,000 to ₹90,000. <br /><br />In spite of the sales, the big bang Bollywood show might be bracing for a slowdown which might not have affected it yet. After all, the entire media and entertainment industry revised its growth estimates to 12% from its earlier 13% for the financial year, <a href="http://71166633.cms">said an Economic Times</a> report. In spite of landmark events like Lok Sabha Election and the ICC world cup, the subdued growth is due to uncertainty in the market and lower TV ad spends. <br /><br />"IIFA has always Bollywood in gaining international traction and it is as international as it gets. It isn't a sign of slowdown. As far as I know, 5-7 advertisers have already backed the awards and the ticket sale can give a better picture,” Vinit Karnik, Business Head - Entertainment, Sports &amp; Live Events at GroupM told Business Insider India. <br /><br />Until now, the awards, popularly dubbed "Bollywood Oscars" by international press, was held at 16 countries. This year by holding it in Mumbai, the heart of Bollywood would save the organizers a few millions on travel and accommodation costs of stars and their entourage. A popular Bollywood tattoo artist reveals which tattoo designs you should get

As a result, many miss or drop out of school, stunting economic opportunities down the line and reinforcing taboos around menstruation.</p><p>The issue is especially prevalent in rural India. In <a href="http://www.nielsen.com/in/en/insights/reports/2016/breaking-the-menstruation-taboo.html">a 2016 Nielsen survey</a>, 93% of girls in <span>Bihar and Jharkhand, India - rural states in the country - said they miss one to two school days every month during menstruation on average.</span></p><p><span>An upcoming Bollywood film called "Padman" aims to help remove the stigma around periods. One of the <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/natalierobehmed/2017/08/30/bollywoods-highest-paid-2017-meet-10-indian-actors-making-bank/#42e5d2eda0d5">most famous actors in Bollywood</a>, Akshay Kumar,  play</span>s social activist Arunachalam Muruganantham - the lead role in the film, which is inspired by a true story.</p><p>Known as "<span>India's Menstrual Man,"</span> Muruganantham invented a machine that could produce low-cost sanitary pads for women and girls in the early 2000s. The machine - <a href="http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-26260978">which he is working to expand to 106 countries</a> - can make pads for less than a third of the price of ones by commercial brands.</p><p>In an interview with Business Insider, Kumar said he believes that movies (and entertainment in general) can be a powerful way to turn the tide on taboos.</p><p>"I didn't want to make a documentary," he said. "I wanted to make a commercial film so people can see it. It's a film you can take your children to, even though it talks about sanitary pads. It's a universal subject. One, because it was about menstruation; and two, because it was a story about somebody who persevered against everything, who lost his wife, who was ostracized from his village. He did not give up."</p><p>She adds that "Padman" seeks to alleviate the burden of shame that comes from having a period in India.
