Probably because of such high demand, BMW has brought down the GT variant of the popular 3 series to India as well. We recently got our hands behind the sturdy driving wheel of the BMW <keyword id="2407701" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="3-series-GT">3 series GT</keyword> and boy-oh-boy did we have a nice time with it. 
 
Design 
We just loved the design dynamics of the BMW 3 series GT. The built is larger and wider than the usual 3 series. The front does seem very similar to the regular 3 series, but as you start moving toward the mid and rear of the car, the GT starts to show its own identity. 
 
The rear windscreen merges nicely into the boot of the car and combines into one seamless boot gate. The GT also has a large opaque sun roof that runs from the front of the cabin to the back. The car looks very masculine and not requests, but demands attention. 
 Step into the car and a plush cabin awaits your arrival. BMW has loaded the GT with all the goodies that one requires for a comfortable and entertaining ride. The BMW iDrive system works well and every button in the middle console is well within reach of the driver. One can also mount a 16 pin <keyword id="6354606" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="iPhone">iPhone</keyword> under the middle arm rest, too. This enables the driver to charge the phone and make calls using the cars console. The usual USB and AUX ports for music have also been thrown in. 
 
Over that, the steering has mounted ICE (in car entertainment) controls. The driver seat is electronically adjustable and one can increase and reduce the height of the front seats, besides moving it forward, back or reclining the back rest. Driver and front passenger has independent climate controls to maintain their respective side’s temperature. 
 There is enough room around the cabin to easily fit 5 passengers. The rear has an A/C vent and a lot of leg room. Rear passengers can recline the rear seats as well. This car is not bad for people who want to sit behind and relax, while their <keyword id="83957" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="chauffeur">chauffeur</keyword> drives them around. We loves what BMW has done with the rear as one finds more head room in the rear. 
 
Performance and Safety 
The BMW 3 series GT comes in just 1 variant with a 2 litre diesel engine (1,995 CC). This produces 181 BHP and can rip through the Indian roads with ease. We took the car out in the city and bit of highway. The car did not cringe under any circumstance. We all know some Indian roads can be unforgiving, but we hardly felt the bumps while driving this car. 
 
The GT has ABS and traction control too. The cabin has couple of all round air-bag units as well, for extra safety. Users can turn on the sports mode and see this car put the roads on fire. The throttle is very responsive and acts well to the slightest paddle touch. The 8 speed automatic transmission is not too shabby either and the drive is mostly smooth with less transmission jerks. Do not expect a brilliant mileage from this variant, anticipate something around the 13-14 KMPL mark. 
 
Yes the car does ask for a premium of about 4-5 lakhs over the regular 3 series. But this car is well worth the price of 42.7 lakhs. Extra boot space, road clearance, rear cabin space and that spectacular design make up for it nicely.

BMW group joins the long list of auto manufacturers to revise the prices of all  models and mini models effective by January 2021

<keyword id="6355119" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BMW">BMW</keyword>, the luxury carmaker from Germany is about to invest another Rs 130 crore in India to provide the push to its local operations. This round of investment would take its total investment in the country to Rs 1,250 crore. In the January-May period this year, <keyword id="105039" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BMW-India">BMW India</keyword> has grown at the rate of 8%, having sold 3,533 units. The Munich-headquartered company is also set to launch new version of its locally manufactured 5 Series later this month, while 6 Series Gran Turismo (GT) model would be launched next year. Both these models are being launched with an aim to strengthen its product portfolio in India. "Since 2007, we have been consistently investing in India. This year, we are going to increase our investment further to up to Rs 1,250 crore on a cumulative basis," BMW India President <keyword id="3057534" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vikram-Pawah">Vikram Pawah</keyword> told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/auto/news/bmw-india-grows-8-per-cent-in-2017-to-invest-rs-125-crore/articleshow/59209060.cms">ET</a>. "Next year, we will be introducing another model in between 5 and 7 Series, called the 6 GT and that would again define a new segment and create new market for us," Pawah said. "So all our main volume drivers as we call them will also be produced locally. Niche models will continue to come in CBU form. Say hello to BMW's new 6 Series crossover

New Delhi, Jan 8 () German car maker BMW on Wednesday reported 13.8 per cent dip in its sales at 9,641 units in India last year as compared with 11,105 units in 2018.
 The luxury automaker despatched 9,000 BMW and 641 Mini units in 2019.
 Besides, BMW Motorrad sold 2,403 motorcycles last year.
 "2019 was not an easy year for the Indian automotive industry as various macroeconomic and structural conditions shook its foundations," BMW Group India President and CEO Rudratej Singh said in a statement.
 BMW Group India, however, stood its ground in this fierce environment with a slew of new products and very aspirational and desirable brands, he added.
 "We successfully initiated new consumers to come into the segment with the BMW 3 Series and the BMW X1. At the same time, we created a clear path for upgrade for segment users with the BMW X5, the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo and the BMW 7 Series," Singh said.
 The company has a healthy order book for the BMW X7 which is sold out for months, he added.
 "Though the industry is still facing difficult times, we are well prepared for 2020. We will always be competitive by remaining focused on our customers," Singh said.
 The company said last year it witnessed over 50 per cent sales come from the locally-produced sports activity vehicle (SAV) range, including BMW X5, BMW X3 and BMW X1.
 A strong contribution also came from BMW 5 Series and BMW 3 Series, it added.
 Similarly, MINI hatchback and the locally-produced MINI Countryman together commanded a share of over 70 per cent in Mini India sales, the German carmaker said. MSS

BMW India sales decline 13 pc to 9,641 units in 2019

 Cricket legend <keyword id="6354267" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sachin-Tendulkar">Sachin Tendulkar</keyword> marked the occasion at the company's manufacturing unit at Mahindra World City, Singaperumalkovil near here, by formally assembling a BMW 5 Series car using parts from Indian auto-component suppliers. 
The company said 50 per cent of the 2,800 parts used in this series are now produced locally. 
 BMW began operations at the Chennai plant on March 29, 2007. Since then, the group has strengthened its commitment to the <keyword id="47445" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indian-market">Indian market</keyword> and has continuously increased the number of locally produced car models. 
 Eight car models are produced on two assembly lines at the BMW Plant Chennai plant -- 1 Series, 3 Series, 3 Series Gran Turismo, 5 Series, 7 Series, X1, X3, and <keyword id="430920" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="X5">X5</keyword>. 
 "In 2015 we will expand our product range and cover all the opportunity available in the luxury car segment. This year we will launch 15 new products along with i8 launched in January. We will also launch 1 Series, 3 Series, (new models)," <keyword id="890930" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="BMW-Group-India">BMW Group India</keyword> President, <keyword id="1131692" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Philipp-von-Sahr">Philipp von Sahr</keyword> told reporters. 
 He said: "Till date, BMW Group has increased <keyword id="6362476" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="investments">investments</keyword> to Rs 4.9 billion (Rs 490 crore) in <keyword id="105039" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="BMW-India">BMW India</keyword> from Rs 3.9 billion. 
 
BMW activities in India include the manufacturing plant in Chennai, a parts warehouse in Chennai, a training Centre in Gurgaon. The company has 40 sales outlet in India.

Some of the major auto components sourced for local production of cars at BMW Plant Chennai are Engine and Transmission from Force Motors; Axles from ZF Hero Chassis, Door Panels and Wiring Harness from Draexlmaier India, Exhaust Systems from Tenneco Automotive India, Heating, Ventilating, Air-conditioning and Cooling Modules from Valeo India and Mahle Behr and Seats from Lear India. 
 
Apart from getting a Made in India BMW car, the price has also been revised. As per the new list provided by the company BMW 118d (Sport Line) will cost Rs 2,950,000. July onwards, BMW 3 series is priced at Rs 3,490,000 onwards, BMW X1 Drive20d (xLine) at INR 3,790,000, BMW X3 Rs 4,690,000. 
 
Besides, the price has been revised for BMW X5, 5 series, 7 series and Gran Turismo.

Audi Q8 limited edition races into the festive season with a ₹1.18 crore price tag

The government has taken further steps to address liquidity issues affecting the <keyword id="53091" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="discoms">discoms</keyword> during the Covid-19 pandemic. It approved a special liquidity facility by way of additional working capital loan to be extended by state-owned financing agencies <keyword id="77463" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Power-Finance-Corporation">Power Finance Corporation</keyword> (PFC) and REC. As per the decision taken by <keyword id="5056893" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-Cabinet-Committee-on-Economic-Affairs">the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs</keyword> (CCEA), PFC and REC will provide working capital loan to discoms this year in excess of the limit of 25 per cent of last year's revenue. This will be provided under distribution sector reform programme <keyword id="3133296" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ujwal-Discom-Assurance-Yojana">Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana</keyword> or UDAY. "We have decided to give this relaxation to help discoms cope with disruptions caused by Covid. It will be available till the situation normalises," said Minister of Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar while briefing media persons about the Cabinet decisions. The fresh loan option will come as another shot in the arm for financially distressed discoms. Under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat scheme, the Centre has already announced a Rs 90,000 crore liquidity window for discoms to help them pay their dues to generation companies. Discoms' dues to the gencos have already risen to Rs 1.3 lakh crore as of June, 2020 and their losses are projected to double to around Rs 58,000 crore this year. The outstanding debt with discoms is already over Rs 4.5 lakh crore. Govt provides further liquidity to power discoms — eases working capital norms

The Union government has launched the <keyword id="1460634" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="credit-guarantee-scheme">Credit Guarantee Scheme</keyword> for <keyword id="1145917" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="subordinate-debt">Subordinate Debt</keyword> for MSMEs, thereby operationalising the Rs 20,000 crore distressed assets fund. On Wednesday, <keyword id="9786661" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-ministry-for-msmes-issued-guidelines">the Ministry for MSMEs issued guidelines</keyword> for the scheme which was announced under the <keyword id="9339692" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="aatmanirbhar">Aatmanirbhar</keyword> Bharat economic package. In a tweet, the ministry said that all <keyword id="6355548" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Public-sector-banks">public sector banks</keyword> along with some private banks are on board. "Govt has given yet another facility for financially stressed MSMEs. The sub-debt scheme has been launched. All preparation is done. All PSU Banks and some Pvt Banks are on board," it said. The scheme would be applicable to all credit facilities sanctioned under CGSSD for a maximum period of 10 years from the guarantee availment date or March 31, 2021 whichever is earlier, or till the amount of Rs 20,000 crore of guarantee amount is approved. As per the guidelines, the scheme is applicable for those MSMEs whose accounts have been standard as of March 31, 2018 and have been in regular operations, either as standard accounts, or as NPA accounts during financial year 2018-19 and financial year 2019-20. It will be valid for MSME units which are stressed, which are SMA-2 and NPA accounts as on April 30, 2020 who are eligible for restructuring as per the RBI guidelines. "Under this arrangement, promoter(s) of the MSME unit will be given credit equal to 15 per cent of his/her stake (equity plus debt) or Rs 75 lakh whichever is lower," said the guideline. Any guarantee approved under the scheme shall be over and above the existing loan/guarantee sanctioned by the trust. Post-restructuring, NPA classification of these accounts shall be as per the extant income recognition and asset classification (IRAC) norms for banks. And although the models that won't live to see the 2021 model year span makes and price points, the one thing that unites nearly all of them is that they're not crossovers. Now, as crossovers and full-size SUVs have superseded minivans as America's family hauler of choice, the minivan that started it all is no more.
