(TI stands for <span><em>Turismo Internazionale</em>.)</span></p><p>Alfa has been touting Quadrifoglio for months now and is positioning the car as Italy's answer to the almighty BMW M3.</p><p>However, the Quadrifoglio is going to be a fairly niche offering. Most people are simply not going to spend $70,000 or so on a 505-horsepower sports sedan, regardless of how good it may be.</p><p>Which makes the two more mainstream offerings all that much more important for Alfa if it wants to make a meaningful splash with consumers. The compact/entry level luxury sedan market is incredibly competitive.</p><p>Although the BMW 3-Series has been king of the hill for a couple of decades now, Mercedes has a strong contender with the C-Class, Audi's has a new generation A4, and Jaguar has a brand new XE. Then you have the Japanese trio of the Lexus IS, Acura TLX and Infiniti Q50. And then there's the Cadillac ATS and ATS-V. So there are tons of great options from which the consumer can choose. </p><p>At the bottom of the range is the standard Giulia. It will be powered by an all-new, 276-horsepower, Alfa-specific 2.0-liter, turbocharged, inline four cylinder engine. According to the Alfa, cars with the motor can hit 60 mph in just 5.5 seconds when mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Like the 2.0-liter motor, the V6 is also exclusive to Alfa. Some of the major auto components sourced for local production of cars at BMW Plant Chennai are Engine and Transmission from Force Motors; Axles from ZF Hero Chassis, Door Panels and Wiring Harness from Draexlmaier India, Exhaust Systems from Tenneco Automotive India, Heating, Ventilating, Air-conditioning and Cooling Modules from Valeo India and Mahle Behr and Seats from Lear India.<br />

Apart from getting a Made in India BMW car, the price has also been revised. As per the new list provided by the company BMW 118d (Sport Line) will cost Rs 2,950,000. July onwards, BMW 3 series is priced at Rs 3,490,000 onwards, BMW X1 Drive20d (xLine) at INR 3,790,000, BMW X3 Rs 4,690,000.<br />

Audi Q8 limited edition races into the festive season with a ₹1.18 crore price tag

<p class="enhanced-subtitle">The actor found overnight fame thanks to playing Jim Hopper on "Stranger Things." Now he's ready for the next chapter in his career.</p><p class="drop-cap">David Harbour has heard you.</p><p>He's heard your shouts of, <em>Hopper!</em> <em>Hey, Hopper!</em> <em>Yo, Hopper!</em> as he walks the streets of New York City and London, where he spends most of his time these days.</p><p>He's not mad at you. But just like a musician with a breakthrough hit, he longs to be more than a one-hit-wonder.</p><p>His turn as fan-favorite police chief Jim Hopper on Netflix's "Stranger Things" took Harbour from a little-known character actor to a two-time Emmy nominee — and a household name. But unlike his teenage costars, his fame came later in life.</p><p>Already in the business for decades, Harbour was prepared when fame hit. In fact, entering the celebrity bubble helped introduce him to his now-wife, singer Lily Allen. However, it's time to level up again. At 48, David Harbour is thinking about his future. </p><div type="image" title="David Harbour in a suit next to a Stranger Things logo" height="1564" width="2300" msid="102576760" hostid="261" sizebytes="131210"></div><p>In late June, I linked up with him over Zoom.</p><p>Calling from London, he was in total dad mode, watching over one of Allen's daughters (whom she had with ex-husband Sam Cooper) while the "Smile" singer is at a West End theater, performing in the play "The Pillowman." He's a little jet-lagged, he told me, and his bushy beard didn't help him look any less haggard. (The facial hair is for work: he needs it to reprise his role as Red Guardian for the upcoming Marvel series, "Thunderbolts.")</p><p>"I'm very animated now, but the minute we're done here it's... [<em>Snoring sound</em>]," Harbour said as he playfully slumps his large 6' 3" frame down into his chair, becoming limp as a noodle.</p><p>Harbour's schedule has been impacted by the Writer's Guild strike, which began in May. It's halted production on both "Thunderbolts," <a href="https://deadline.com/2023/05/marvel-thunderbolts-writers-strike-1235380504/#recipient_hashed=3a3baf33fde74a0cf9fc3af244dd666d88a51fe84dd964875093b5a98d5764b6&amp;recipient_salt=920d8b92feb07303a242938a23f9992cf27f3e5e076fcc9aa292a484a5828153" target="_blank" rel="noopener">which was scheduled to start in June,</a> and the fifth and final season of <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/stranger-things-pause-writers-strike-wga-netflix-halted-duffers-brothers/">"Stranger Things."</a>  Harbour and I spoke just weeks before the actors joined the picket line after SAG-AFTRA called its own strike.</p><p>Though there's been a lot of time recently to think about roles that can stretch him as an actor, he actually began before the strikes even got started. In the past few years, he's played a Marvel character (Red Guardian in "Black Widow"), a Santa with a specific set of skills ("Violent Night"), and a ghost who doesn't speak (Netflix's "We Have a Ghost").</p><p>He admitted these projects are a solid start as he gets ready to say goodbye to "Stranger Things," but he wants to go even further. "My 20s never worked for me. For guys like me, we're always waiting to be 40, even when we're, like, 19. We're waiting for the hairline to go. Those are the guys that I admired growing up, and those are the guys I wanted to emulate."</p><p>During our conversation, I compared Harbour to another actor who hit it big after his hairline started to thin, Gene Hackman — much to the actor's delight.</p><p>Like Harbour, Hackman started his career on the stage and didn't become a movie star until he was 41 when he played a cop in the 1971 classic "The French Connection." Hackman's gritty performance as New York detective Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle led to an Oscar win for best actor. Hackman went on to star as everything from Lex Luthor in "Superman" movies to a B-movie director in "Get Shorty." Audiences were mesmerized by his range — they filled theaters to see <em>him</em>, regardless of the movie's genre.</p><p>That's what Harbour wants.</p><p>"I hate the word 'brand,' but I want there to be something you get when you see a movie I'm in," he explained. "You'll get an emotional experience. You'll get surprised." He's hoping "Gran Turismo" has both of those things.</p><h2>Channeling his inner coach while making 'Gran Turismo'</h2><p class="drop-cap">"Gran Turismo," opening in theaters August 25, is based on the true-life story of Jann Mardenborough, a teenage gamer who won the 2011 GT Academy, a competition in which thousands of the best "Gran Turismo" video-game players competed to win a chance to become a real race-car driver for Nissan.<strong style="background-color: #ff99cc;"> <br /></strong></p><p>Behind every underdog is the grizzled coach motivating the hero toward unlocking their full potential. That's where Harbour comes in. In the movie, he plays Jack Salter, a brash American who must train Jann (played by Archie Madekwe) into a real race-car driver.</p><p>Director Neill Blomkamp ("District 9") said he always wanted Jack, based on a composite of the real Jann's early coaches, to be American. </p><p>"I kind of read him older, like Robert Duvall in 'Days of Thunder,'" Blomkamp told me. "But quite early on, David's name came up, and as soon as I heard it, I thought that could be super interesting."</p><p>His first meeting with Harbour convinced Blomkamp that he'd found his Jack, he said, but Harbour's reference point for the character was one he didn't initially understand.</p><p>"He kept bringing up 'Hoosiers' with Gene Hackman, in how he wanted to play Jack," Blomkamp said. "I actually had never seen it, so I had to watch it in order to know what he was talking about. Then I saw instantly what he meant, and we were off."</p><div type="image" title="David Harbour in a race track" height="1295" width="2300" msid="102576764" hostid="261" sizebytes="171486"></div><p>Harbour's performance is the glue of "Gran Turismo." </p><p>Dealing out sarcastic one-liners, Harbour is immediately likable as Jack. But as the movie goes on, Harbour shows even more of his range as Jack softens toward Jann. He's a calming figure within the fast-paced racing madness Jann has been thrust into.</p><p>A lot of those choices came from Harbour himself, Blomkamp revealed. At times, the actor would throw out ideas "days before shooting," the director added. They'd later be worked into the script. </p><p>"He's very controlled," the director said of Harbour's acting. "He wouldn't just go off on a scene, and I would just let the camera roll. He's really thorough." </p><p>By his admission, Harbour's not a car guy, but that didn't mean he was going to pass up the chance to drive one during production. Unlike his costars, who all wanted to get behind the wheel of a race car, Harbour had his eye on the safety cars for a specific reason.</p><p>"Safety cars are the ones that show up when a crash happens on the track and those are stick shift. The race cars have peddle shifters," Harbour explained. "So I would wheel around in the safety cars while everyone else was fetishizing out over the racing cars. I was like, 'You are missing out.'" </p><p>In the movie, there's a serious scene where Jack and Jann talk on the race track, before driving off in a safety car. After finishing the scene, Blomkamp recalled Harbour having this look in his eye, like he wanted to stay put and drive around a bit. "I was like, 'Just go, man,'" Blomkamp said. </p><p>Harbour boasts to me that he got up to 140 miles per hour on that drive, and I imagine him looking out at the open road ahead, wondering to himself, "How the heck did I get here?"</p><h2>From an unknown theater actor to life after Hopper</h2><p class="drop-cap">For years — before landing his first supporting roles in movies like "Brokeback Mountain" and "Revolutionary Road" — Harbour developed his craft in the theater, trying to get noticed. Director Jo Bonney was one of his early believers.</p><p>The first time she saw Harbour on stage was over 20 years ago when Harbour played Antonio in a production of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" in New York City's Central Park. Though the play also starred the likes of Julia Stiles and Zach Braff, it was a then-unknown Harbour who Bonney couldn't keep her eyes off.</p><p>"This production had this massive wave constructed on the set and David's entrance consisted of him surfing on a piece of carpet from the top of this insanely high wave and down on stage. It looked like, at any moment, David was going to shoot off into who knows where in the park," Bonney said.</p><div type="image" title="David Harbour in a suit" height="1621" width="2162" msid="102576767" hostid="261" sizebytes="135572"></div><p>"But he rode it so beautifully," Bonney said, adding "that when he landed at the bottom, there was this ripple of delight from the audience. And then he played Antonio with such genuine heart and humor. I thought, 'Okay, this actor is impressive.'"</p><p>Interestingly enough, New York Times critic Ben Brantley was also impressed by Harbour that evening, noting <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2002/07/22/theater/theater-review-wayward-currents-in-uncharted-waters.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">in his review</a> that Harbour was "recruited as a last-minute replacement for an injured actor" and that his performance was "the evening's most emotionally compelling."</p><p>A year later, Bonney crossed paths with Harbour again. He was auditioning for her production of the Lanford Wilson play, "Fifth of July," in which he landed the role of John, a friend to a Vietnam veteran named Ken who comes home as a double amputee.</p><p>"John needs to have this big presence," Bonney said of the role. "He's a player so he has a swagger to him, but also he goes to a very emotional place because of his relationship with Ken; it becomes very tense and very emotional as they dig back. So that's exactly what David was able to bring in."</p><p class="drop-cap">Though Harbour's first venture away from Hopper didn't hit — his reboot of "Hellboy" in 2019 turned out to be a box-office bust — he's rebounded. With the success of "Violent Night" over the 2022 holiday season, Harbour believes he's found his path. </p><p>"I've been on Netflix ... but this was a small original movie that's going to a cinema. A whole new world opened up for me with that," Harbour said of "Violent Night," in which he plays a Santa Clause who must save a family held hostage on Christmas Eve. "I like this playing field. I want to make original movies that go to the movie theaters."</p><p>After "Gran Turismo," his next original movie was meant to be the based-on-a-true-story indie film "The Trashers" in which he plays a garbage tycoon with ties to the mob, but he says he left the project over creative differences. A "Violent Night" sequel was also getting off the ground before the writers' strike. "There was a script," he told me. "Work has been done."</p><div type="image" title="violent night" height="1382" width="2064" msid="102576768" hostid="261" sizebytes="138790"></div><p>But if you haven't pieced it together yet, it's not just Hopper who Harbour is done with — after the strike ends and he films his last "Stranger Things" season, he's moving on from TV. Movies are his focus now. And if he has it his way, Hopper will become just a footnote in a varied, triumphant career.</p><p>"I think about that a lot," Harbour said of one day being associated with more than just the character that made him a star.</p><p>"It's a funny position I'm in, which I never thought I would be in," he said with an intensity in his eyes. I buckled up for what he was about to tell me.</p><p>"The first year of 'Stranger Things,' I remember having a discussion with a publicist and her saying, 'Maybe you don't want to be associated with the show so much,' and I was like, 'Why? I love this show. I love the character.' And I do love the show. And I do love the character," he explained. "But I don't want to be <em>just</em> that character. I don't want to be <em>just</em> that guy."</p><p>"I think about George Clooney leaving 'ER.' Now we just see him as George Clooney," he continued. "But there was a time when it was, <em>The guy from 'ER' is doing a movie with Nicole Kidman</em>."</p><p>"I'm trying to navigate some of that, and it's tricky because you don't want to shit on the people that love you for this thing that you did that you also love. But at the same time, you kind of want to leave the nest. I got more in me. I got different stuff in me, and I want you guys to see that. I don't want people yelling 'Hopper' on the street every five minutes the rest of my life."</p><p>I have a feeling those <em>Yo, Hopper!</em> shout-outs will turn into <em>Yo, Harbour! </em>soon enough.</p>

The government has taken further steps to address liquidity issues affecting the <keyword id="53091" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="discoms">discoms</keyword> during the Covid-19 pandemic.<br /><br />It approved a special liquidity facility by way of additional working capital loan to be extended by state-owned financing agencies <keyword id="77463" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Power-Finance-Corporation">Power Finance Corporation</keyword> (PFC) and REC.<br /><br />As per the decision taken by <keyword id="5056893" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-Cabinet-Committee-on-Economic-Affairs">the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs</keyword> (CCEA), PFC and REC will provide working capital loan to discoms this year in excess of the limit of 25 per cent of last year's revenue.<br /><br />This will be provided under distribution sector reform programme <keyword id="3133296" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ujwal-Discom-Assurance-Yojana">Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana</keyword> or UDAY.<br /><br />"We have decided to give this relaxation to help discoms cope with disruptions caused by Covid. It will be available till the situation normalises," said Minister of Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar while briefing media persons about the Cabinet decisions.<br /><br />The fresh loan option will come as another shot in the arm for financially distressed discoms. Under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat scheme, the Centre has already announced a Rs 90,000 crore liquidity window for discoms to help them pay their dues to generation companies.<br /><br />Discoms' dues to the gencos have already risen to Rs 1.3 lakh crore as of June, 2020 and their losses are projected to double to around Rs 58,000 crore this year. Govt provides further liquidity to power discoms — eases working capital norms

The Union government has launched the <keyword id="1460634" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="credit-guarantee-scheme">Credit Guarantee Scheme</keyword> for <keyword id="1145917" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="subordinate-debt">Subordinate Debt</keyword> for MSMEs, thereby operationalising the Rs 20,000 crore distressed assets fund.<br /><br />On Wednesday, <keyword id="9786661" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-ministry-for-msmes-issued-guidelines">the Ministry for MSMEs issued guidelines</keyword> for the scheme which was announced under the <keyword id="9339692" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="aatmanirbhar">Aatmanirbhar</keyword> Bharat economic package.<br /><br />In a tweet, the ministry said that all <keyword id="6355548" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Public-sector-banks">public sector banks</keyword> along with some private banks are on board.<br /><br />"Govt has given yet another facility for financially stressed MSMEs. The sub-debt scheme has been launched. All preparation is done. BARC says that it has proposed reviewing the current standards of measuring and reporting data and improving their statistical robustness. This will cover all Hindi, regional, English and business news channels.<br /><br />“Starting with the ‘News Genre’, BARC will cease publishing the weekly individual ratings for all news channels during the exercise. This exercise is expected to take around 8-12 weeks including validation and testing under the supervision of BARCs Tech Comm. BARC will continue to release weekly audience estimates for the genre of news by state and language,” BARC said in a release. <br /><br /><strong>The <keyword id="10111018" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="trp-controversy">TRP controversy</keyword></strong><br />This comes after Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh, earlier this week, had <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/cities/mumbai/fake-trp-racket-police-call-republic-tvs-cfo-for-questioning-6717776/">claimed</a> that Republic TV and two Marathi channels - Box Cinema and Fakt Marathi -- manipulated Television Rating Point (TRP) for better advertisement revenue. Republic TV rubbished Singh's claims. <br /><br />The alleged fake TRP scam <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/cities/mumbai/fake-trp-racket-police-call-republic-tvs-cfo-for-questioning-6717776/">came to light</a> when rating agency Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) filed a complaint through Hansa Research Group, alleging that certain television channels were rigging TRP numbers. <br /><br /><a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/cities/mumbai/fake-trp-racket-police-call-republic-tvs-cfo-for-questioning-6717776/">According to Mumbai Police</a>, some of the people whose homes these barometers have been installed have confessed that they were paid ₹500 for keeping their TV sets switched on even if they didn't watch the channels.<br /><br />The crime branch has so far arrested five persons in the case. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/supreme-court-rejects-republic-tv-arnab-goswami-plea-1731773-2020-10-15">refused </a>to entertain Republic TV’s plea in the TRP scam case and has asked the news channel to move to Bombay High Court. <br /><br />“We at BARC take our role in truthfully and faithfully reporting ‘What India Watches’ with the greatest sense of responsibility and work with integrity to ensure that our audience estimates (ratings) remain true to their purpose”. BARC pauses weekly television ratings of all news channels for three months following TRP controversy

<ul class="summary-list"><li>More than two dozen 2020 vehicles won't be back for the 2021 model year. </li><li>As consumer demand shifts, many automakers are eliminating sedans, wagons, and hatchbacks. </li><li>Only one crossover won't make it to 2021: the Dodge Journey. </li></ul><p>The <keyword id="34478" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="auto-industry">auto industry</keyword> is in the midst of a crossover boom - and for every new compact crossover automakers bring to market, some sorry sedan or hatchback heads to the automotive graveyard.</p><p>The list of models that won't live to see the 2021 model year includes some iconic and long-running nameplates like the Lincoln Continental, Chevy Impala, and Dodge Grand Caravan, along with some short-lived models that just didn't manage to catch on, like Jaguar's high-performance station wagon and Alfa Romeo's inexpensive mid-engine sports car. </p><p>And although the models that won't live to see the 2021 model year span makes and price points, the one thing that unites nearly all of them is that they're not crossovers. In fact, after the 2020 model year, multiple brands - Cadillac, Lincoln, Buick, and Ford among them - will have transitioned to lineups that don't include a single sedan. </p><p>Check out 25 cars automakers killed off for 2021 below: </p><h2><strong>Acura RLX</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="2020_Acura_RLX_Sport_Hybrid_034 source" height="1667" width="2500" msid="79978917" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>The RLX luxury sedan is out of Acura's 2021 lineup after selling <a href="https://hondanews.com/en-US/releases/release-807c080220275f828905387c4f002e91-record-light-truck-sales-lift-ahm-and-honda-brand-to-sales-increases-in-2019">just over 1,000 units</a> in 2019. Acura sold roughly 50 times that amount of its MDX crossover, and around 60 times more RDX crossovers. </p><p>It has unusual features like rear-wheel steering and a sporty hybrid option with a claimed 377 horsepower, but that wasn't enough to keep buyers interested.</p><h2><strong>Alfa Romeo 4C Spider</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="Alfa Romeo 4C Spider 3" height="1502" width="2250" msid="79978918" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>Alfa Romeo killed off the hardtop version of the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/alfa-romeo-4c-spider-review-mini-ferrari-2016-7">4C</a> a few years back, and the roadster follows in its footsteps for 2021. Starting at under $70,000, the 4C is one of the most affordable mid-engined sports cars on the market - but alas, it <a href="https://www.goodcarbadcar.net/alfa-romeo-4c-sales-figures-usa-canada/">barely broke triple-digit sales</a> in 2019 and so it's gone for good. </p><p>But other inexpensive mid-engine options like the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chevrolet-corvette-mid-engine-review-c8-horsepower-price-specs-chevy-2020-10">Chevy Corvette</a>, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/porsche-718-boxster-s-and-alfa-romeo-4c-spider-comparison-2018-5">Porsche Boxster</a>, and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/porsche-cayman-s-review-photos-details-2018-3">Porsche Cayman</a> are still kicking. </p><h2><strong>BMW i8</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="bmw i8 hero" height="2000" width="3000" msid="79978919" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>After six years on the market, it's the end of the line for the plug-in hybrid i8. Despite its somewhat confused combination of exotic looks and a tiny three-cylinder engine (aided by electric motors), the i8 managed to sell more than 20,000 units in its run, making it <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/a-look-back-at-the-futuristic-bmw-i8-which-ends-production-in-april-2020-3">the best-selling car of its kind</a>, according to BMW. </p><p><a href="https://www.bmwblog.com/2020/08/26/bmw-i8-successor/">Rumors have circulated</a> around a possible i8 successor based on the Vision M Next concept car, but there's no official word yet on when or if that will happen. </p><h2><strong>BMW M8 Coupe and Convertible</strong></h2><div type="image" title="P90348795_highRes_the all new bmw m8 c" height="1571" width="2095" msid="79978920" hostid="261"></div><p>BMW is trimming the options available for its halo M8 due to COVID-19-related supply issues, <a href="https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a34252647/2021-bmw-m8-coupe-convertible-phased-out/">Car and Driver</a> reported in October. The coupe and convertible won't be available for 2021, but the four-door Gran Coupe version is still on the table if you have a spare $130,000 laying around.</p><h2><strong>Buick Regal</strong></h2><div type="image" title="2019 Buick Regal GS 021 (1)" height="1398" width="1865" msid="79978923" hostid="261"></div><p>After nearly 50 years on the market, GM has canceled the Buick Regal as part of its shift away from passenger cars. The move means the Buick brand will have an all-SUV lineup going into the 2021 model year.</p><h2><strong>Cadillac CT6</strong></h2><div type="image" title="2020 Cadillac CT6 V US Product 013" height="2377" width="3169" msid="79978929" hostid="261"></div><p>Cadillac made a name for itself building gigantic land yachts, but it's pared back its sedan lineup in recent years. Its biggest sedan won't make it to 2021, despite being one of Caddy's technological leaders and the only vehicle to get its twin-turbocharged, 4.2-liter, 550-horsepower <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cadillacs-new-blackwing-cars-here-to-take-on-bmw-mercedes-2020-4#-2">Blackwing V8</a>. </p><h2><strong>Chevrolet Impala</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="2018 Chevrolet Impala." height="2000" width="3000" msid="79978931" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>The iconic Impala nameplate bites the dust this year, but it's not the first time GM has discontinued the model. It's been on the market in spurts since the late 1950s - so there's still hope it returns once the nostalgia sets in. </p><h2><strong>Chevrolet Sonic</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="2020 Chevrolet Sonic 006" height="1395" width="2500" msid="79978933" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>The demise of the small car claims another victim in the Chevy Sonic. Sales of the inexpensive hatchback and sedan peaked in 2014, when Chevy sold <a href="https://carsalesbase.com/us-chevrolet-sonic/">nearly 94,000 of them</a>, but plummeted <a href="https://media.gm.com/media/us/en/gm/news.detail.html/content/Pages/news/us/en/2020/jan/0103-gmsales.html">below 14,000 in 2019</a>. </p><p>It started its life outside the US as the Aveo, and, like lots of compact cars that don't find success stateside, it will live on in other markets. </p><h2><strong>Dodge Grand Caravan</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="2020 Dodge Grand Caravan." height="1667" width="2500" msid="79978934" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>The Dodge Grand Caravan arguably <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/history-rise-fall-of-the-minivan-led-by-dodge-caravan-2020-4">birthed the minivan segment</a> when it came on the scene in 1984 along with its upmarket sibling, the Plymouth Voyager. Now, as crossovers and full-size SUVs have superseded minivans as America's family hauler of choice, the minivan that started it all is no more. </p><p>But Fiat Chrysler isn't out of the minivan game altogether - it still sells the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chrysler-pacifica-hybrid-minivan-review-features-2019-4">Chrysler Pacifica</a>, which got a facelift for 2021. </p><h2><strong>Dodge Journey</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="DG020_003JNf41s27dlha2vt5b61j75a7jmp2" height="1667" width="2500" msid="79978935" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>The Dodge Journey is the only crossover to kick the bucket for 2021, which speaks volumes of its consumer appeal - or lack thereof. As of May, nearly half of 2019 Journeys sat unsold on dealer lots, according to car search engine <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/20-car-models-with-most-2019-surplus-inventory-2020-5">iSeeCars</a>.</p><h2><strong>Ford Fusion</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="2020 ford fusion titanium white platinum metallic" height="1292" width="2000" msid="79978936" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>Ford announced plans to discontinue all of its sedans <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/innovations/wp/2018/04/26/ford-has-been-synonymous-with-cars-for-more-than-a-century-thats-about-to-change/">back in 2018</a>, and it's achieved that with the demise of the Fusion. The Focus, Fiesta, and Taurus have all left the scene as well, leaving the Ecosport compact crossover as Ford's entry-level offering. </p><h2><strong>Ford Mustang Shelby GT350</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R Heritage Edition_6.JPG" height="1667" width="2500" msid="79978990" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>The V8-powered, manual-transmission-only <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ford-mustang-shelby-gt350-gt350r-stopping-production-this-fall-2020-10">Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R</a> pay homage to the famed Shelby GT350 of the 1960s, which kicked off the Mustang's high-performance reputation. But that rich history wasn't enough for the Blue Oval to keep it around. </p><p>For buyers who desire no less than an absurdly powerful sports car bearing the Shelby name, the 760-horsepower Shelby GT500 is still on the market. </p><h2><strong>Honda Civic Coupe and Civic Si</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="2020 Honda Civic Si" height="1608" width="3000" msid="79978991" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>Honda is launching a new, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/2022-honda-civic-debut-photos-sleek-styling-2020-11">11th generation of the Civic</a> for 2021, and some changes are coming to the popular model's lineup. Now the cheapest vehicle in Honda's lineup is the $21,000 HR-V, which <a href="https://hondanews.com/en-US/releases/release-807c080220275f828905387c4f002e91-record-light-truck-sales-lift-ahm-and-honda-brand-to-sales-increases-in-2019">outsold the Fit three-to-one</a> in 2019. </p><h2><strong>Hyundai Elantra GT</strong></h2><div type="image" title="2020 Elantra GT " height="995" width="1326" msid="79978994" hostid="261"></div><p>The hatchback version of the Hyundai Elantra heads to the great junkyard in the sky after the 2020 model year, along with its sporty sibling, the GT N Line. <a href="https://www.hyundainews.com/en-us/releases/3101">Hyundai said</a> the hatchback was displaced by the compact Venue and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hyundai-kona-review-photos-styling-2020-12">Kona</a> crossovers.</p><p>But the Veloster and Veloster N carry over to 2021. </p><h2><strong>Jaguar XE</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="Jaguar XE" height="1667" width="2500" msid="79978995" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>Jaguar is eliminating its entry-level sport sedan, the XE, from its US lineup after selling only <a href="https://www.goodcarbadcar.net/jaguar-xe-sales-figures-usa-canada/">3,551 of them</a> in 2019. By comparison, BMW regularly sells well <a href="https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20200103005391/en/BMW-of-North-America-Reports-December-2019-and-Year-End-U.S.-Sales.">over 40,000</a> 3-Series sedans annually, while Mercedes-Benz moved some <a href="https://carsalesbase.com/us-mercedes-benz-c-class/">50,000 C-Class sedans</a> in 2019. </p><p>For 2021, the XF sedan assumes the entry-level spot and gets a significant price cut to match.</p><h2><strong>Jaguar XF Sportbrake</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="Jaguar XF S" height="1200" width="1800" msid="79978996" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>Wagons are also going by the wayside as crossovers take over, and Jaguar is pulling its one and only long-roof model, the XF Sportbrake, from the American market after only three model years. In that time, Jaguar sold fewer than 250 of the wagons, according to <a href="https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a34285524/jaguar-xe-xf-sportbrake-cancelled/">Road &amp; Track</a>.</p><p>Buyers in the market for a luxury wagon will need to look to offerings like the Volvo V90, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/audi-a4-allroad-wagon-crossover-review-2017-6">Audi</a> A6 Avant, or <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/porsche-panamera-gts-sport-turismo-review-photos-features-verdict-2020-2">Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo</a> come 2021. </p><h2><strong>Kia Optima</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="Kia Optima" height="1326" width="2000" msid="79978997" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>The Kia Optima is on its way out after two decades in production. This particular rear-wheel-drive sedan may be going away after 2020, but Lexus-sedan stans will still be able to choose the ES, LS, and IS. </p><h2><strong>Lincoln Continental</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="Lincoln Continental" height="942" width="2000" msid="79979001" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>Lincoln has used the Continental name on and off for some 80 years, and this latest version of the car is dead for 2021. But given the nameplate's deep history, there's a good shot it will come back someday - perhaps on some future electric luxury sedan. </p><h2><strong>Lincoln MKZ</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="Lincoln MKZ" height="2000" width="3000" msid="79979002" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>With the MKZ and Continental gone for 2021, Lincoln is <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lincoln-continental-mkz-sedan-dead-suv-crossover-lineup-american-luxury-2020-7">left with an all-SUV lineup</a> of the Nautilus, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/2020-lincoln-aviator-review-hybrid-specs-three-row-suv-luxury-2020-7">Aviator</a>, Corsair, and the flagship Navigator. </p><p>And the numbers back up Lincoln's move. In 2019, the brand sold some <a href="https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2020/01/06/sales-4q2019.pdf">88,000 SUVs</a> and fewer than 25,000 sedans - and that's with only a partial year of Aviator sales. </p><p>Following this year's lineup shakeups at Ford and Lincoln, the Mustang is the Blue Oval's only car left standing. </p><h2><strong>Mercedes-Benz SLC</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="_F8A6477 1200x800" height="800" width="1200" msid="79979005" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>The Mercedes-Benz SLC is has been officially discontinued with no successor planned, following more than two decades of continuous production. For the model's last hurrah, Mercedes added a yellow <a href="https://media.mbusa.com/releases/the-slc-final-edition">2020 SLC Final Edition</a> to its lineup. </p><h2><strong>Toyota Yaris</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="Yaris " height="1166" width="1555" msid="79979006" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>The death of the Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit, Chevy Sonic, and Hyundai Elantra GT this year - along with the end of the Ford Fiesta and Mazda2 previously - leave a scant few options for fans of subcompacts here in the US. </p><p>Despite the Yaris being a favorite among lovers of small cars, it <a href="https://pressroom.toyota.com/toyota-motor-north-america-reports-december-2019-year-end-sales/">hasn't sold well</a> in the US as of late. Fewer than 22,000 of them rolled off of dealer lots in 2019, as compared with 304,850 Corollas, 336,978 Camrys, and 448,071 Rav4 crossovers. </p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>As the coronavirus pandemic puts sports and most of the rest of the world on hold, racing divisions like NASCAR and Formula One are moving races online with some of their big-name drivers. </li><li>The races are exhibition only and won't count for anything, but will be broadcast both online and on television.</li><li>It's an example of the rise of racing simulators, which realistically recreate cars and tracks online.</li><li>Simulators have gotten so realistic, even, that drivers use them to train, and some even get their start on the computer.</li><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/?hprecirc-bullet">Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories</a>.</li></ul><p>Much of the world is at a halt due to the novel coronavirus, which has<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-virus-everything-we-know-deadly-2019-ncov-wuhan-spread-2020-1"> infected a reported 265,000 people worldwide</a>. That includes sporting events and leagues, with everything from the<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/major-events-cancelled-or-postponed-due-to-the-coronavirus-2020#glastonbury-2020-scheduled-to-take-place-in-june-was-also-canceled-organizers-said-that-already-purchased-tickets-will-roll-over-to-the-2021-festival-6"> Kentucky Derby</a> to<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com.au/ncaa-suspends-march-madness-coronavirus-2020-3"> March Madness</a> in a holding pattern or scrapped entirely. </p><p>But motorsports are in a position most person-to-person ones aren't. They can be realistically simulated online, and that's exactly what major divisions like NASCAR and Formula One are doing - along with some of their big-name drivers.</p><p>While both circuits are on hold indefinitely during the pandemic, they each scrambled together to bring viewers a replacement of sorts: online racing, but with many of the drivers who would be out on the track - giving the people who aren't quite into esports yet but don't have anything else to watch something to be invested in.</p><p>NASCAR <a href="https://www.nascar.com/news-media/2020/03/17/nascar-iracing-introduce-enascar-iracing-pro-invitational-series/">announced</a> on Tuesday that it would start an exhibition round called the eNASCAR Pro Invitational Series on iRacing, a realistic simulator that's<a href="https://www.iracing.com/overview/history/"> been around since 2004</a>, for big names to compete in during the lull. The opening race will be <a href="https://www.nascar.com/news-media/2020/03/19/fox-sports-to-televise-enascar-iracing-pro-series-invitational-opener-on-fs1/">live on Fox Sports 1 on Sunday</a>, complete with the network's broadcasters and top-level Cup Series champions Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski, and Joey Logano in the race.</p><p>F1 went a similar route on Friday,<a href="https://corp.formula1.com/formula-1-launches-virtual-grand-prix-series-to-replace-postponed-races/"> announcing</a> it would launch the F1 Esports Virtual Grand Prix with "a number of current F1 drivers" on the grid. The announcement didn't name anyone, but said the series will compete "strictly for entertainment purposes" in place of every postponed grand prix on Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook.</p><p>Drivers won't be sitting in front of a console with a simple game controller, either - F1 will use F1 2019 game, which drivers <a href="https://www.redbull.com/gb-en/f1-2018-game-formula-1-drivers-verdict">have said</a> in the past has a similar feel to the real race cars. iRacing, which covers a broader spectrum of tracks and race cars, is realistic enough that many drivers use it to train.</p><p>The more realistic racing sims out there are also more than just games with pedals and a wheel attached to them. iRacing, for example, goes out and <a href="https://jalopnik.com/heres-how-an-iracing-virtual-track-is-built-1826533656">scans individual race tracks</a>, uploads them, and has detailed models of how each car should interact with its surroundings based on things like the texture of the racing surface and damage sustained during the race. </p><p>One of the biggest simulator stories in professional motorsports is probably <a href="https://jalopnik.com/nascar-s-newest-top-level-driver-learned-how-to-race-on-1797673141">the career ascension of William Byron</a>, who will be in the NASCAR exhibition race on Sunday. </p><p>Byron learned how to drive on iRacing after getting a simulator setup at age 13, and didn't get into a real race car until he was 15 - a decade after many who succeed in the sport do. He's now a full-time driver for powerhouse team Hendrick Motorsports in the Cup Series, and won the driver's championship in NASCAR's second-tier Xfinity Series during his rookie season <a href="https://www.nascar.com/news-media/2017/11/17/nascar-xfinity-homestead-championship-william-byron-title/">in 2017</a>. He was 19 at the time, or just six years removed from his first simulator race. </p><p>There are also programs like the Nissan GT Academy, which graduates drivers to real race cars based on their gaming skills. The academy once produced drivers <a href="https://jalopnik.com/expert-gran-turismo-drivers-cant-race-in-real-life-beca-5982998">too fast for the real-life competition they were entered in</a>, and the game it uses, Gran Turismo, can be used to <a href="https://jalopnik.com/playing-gran-turismo-sport-will-count-toward-a-real-rac-1777997419">work toward a real racing license</a>. </p><p>Basically, they're legit, even if many folks' perceptions of video games aren't quite there yet. </p><p>The coronavirus has hit motorsports as hard as most other things, with NASCAR provisionally <a href="https://www.nascar.com/news-media/2020/03/16/nascar-schedule-update-statement-race-coronavirus/">postponing all of its races through May 3</a> and F1 doing the same <a href="https://www.formula1.com/en/racing/2020.html">through at least the start of June</a>. F1 also <a href="https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.monaco-announce-cancellation-2020-f1-race.4tpwalvxWpDL0uwRMnV9TI.html">canceled its biggest event of the year</a>, the Monaco Grand Prix street race, marking the first time since 1954 that it won't be run.</p><p>Both will be in for a tough time with scheduling when things do resume to a quasi-normal state, too: NASCAR runs 36 Cup Series events per year, along with two other national touring series, and will have to squeeze in a big chunk of the schedule if it hopes to run all of its races. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Hollis Johnson/Business Insider</span></p><p class="caption">The Tesla Model 3 didn't do well in the tests.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><ul><li><strong>Five cars with automatic braking systems were stress tested by research group the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.</strong></li><li><strong>The Tesla Model 3 and Model S performed the worst, behind a BMZ, a Volvo, and a Mercedes.</strong></li><li><strong>They were required to drive toward a stationary item with their adaptive cruise controls turned off, and only automatic braking on.</strong></li><li><strong>The two Teslas were the only cars which failed to stop in time, and hit the object.</strong></li><li><strong>In other parts of the test, the Teslas performed better, and were even over-cautious when braking.</strong></li></ul><p><br />New tests of automatic braking systems in cars found some worrying problems with the technology, and two Tesla models were the worst performers.</p><p>Test carried out by research group the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)  found that some braking systems may not notice stopped vehicles, and could even steer cars into a crash rather than away from it.</p><p>In a series of tests created by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), <a href="http://m.iihs.org/mobile/news/mobilenews/evaluating-autonomy-iihs-examines-driver-assistance-features-in-road-track-tests">published in a report on Tuesday</a>, <a href="http://m.iihs.org/mobile/news/mobilenews/evaluating-autonomy-iihs-examines-driver-assistance-features-in-road-track-tests"></a>five cars were set to drive at 31 mph toward a stationary object with the adaptive cruise control turned off, but with automatic braking on.</p><p>The five models tested were:</p><ul><li><strong>A 2017 BMW 5-series with its "Driving Assistant Plus" function.</strong></li><li><strong>A 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class with "Drive Pilot."</strong></li><li><strong>A 2018 Tesla Model 3 with "Autopilot."</strong></li><li><strong>A 2016 Model S with "Autopilot."</strong></li><li><strong>A 2018 Volvo S90 with "Pilot Assist."</strong></li></ul><p>The stress test found that the Tesla Model 3 and Model S were the only two models that didn't stop in time.</p><p>Both cars had braked and lessened the impact of a crash, but still hit the stationary item.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Tesla</span></p><p class="caption">The Tesla Model S.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>However, in a separate test with the adaptive cruise control turned on, the IIHS found that the Tesla models decelerated gradually and braked earlier than the other cars.</p><p>This occurred in a test simulating multiple cars driving in a row, where all the cars suddenly had to stop.</p><p>In fact, the IIHS noted that the Model 3 was prone to what it called "unnecessary or overly cautious braking."</p><p>While travelling a distance of 180 miles, the car unexpectedly slowed down 12 times, seven of which after spotting tree shadows on the road, and the others for vehicles traveling toward it in another lane or crossing the road far ahead.</p><p>Jessica Jermakian, a senior research engineer at IIHS, said: "The braking events we observed didn't create unsafe conditions because the decelerations were mild and short enough that the vehicle didn't slow too much.</p><p>"However, unnecessary braking could pose crash risks in heavy traffic, especially if it's more forceful.</p><p>"Plus, drivers who feel that their car brakes erratically may choose not to use adaptive cruise control" - which was turned off in the first test that the Teslas failed - "and would miss out on any safety benefit from the system."</p><p>The Teslas performed the best when it came to staying within their lanes on curves and hills, however.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="http://www.iihs.org/iihs/sr/statusreport/article/53/4/1">Insurance Institute for Highway Safety</a></span></p><p class="caption">Results from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's tests on electronic driver assist systems, published in a report on August 7, 2018.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>The IIHS in particular highlighted the <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/tesla-fatal-model-x-crash-response-2018-3">fatal crash of a Tesla Model X in March</a> as evidence of the shortcomings of driver assistance systems.</p><p>The car, which was driving while the semi-autonomous Autopilot software was engaged, crashed into a highway barrier in Mountain View, California, and caught fire.
