<keyword id="6354616" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Twitter">Twitter</keyword>'s quest to capture ad revenue is driving up operating costs. <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-10-28/twitter-go-it-alone-app-strategy-boosts-costs-before-ipo.html" target="_blank">The company's research and development expenses are up 170%</a> from a year earlier, and at over $85 million equal to about half of revenue in the third quarter, according to an analysis by Bloomberg.
(By contrast the company's revenue increased by 105%.)
The increase in costs is explained in part by Twitter's method of eliminating competition from developers that generate ad revenue using Twitter's data. Twitter, like Facebook, is a platform, and developers can use its data to build add-on or complementary apps, like services that allow users to build mini-stories with tweets. These apps, in turn, might generate their own ad revenue. Twitter is trying to exercise control over outside developers and their revenue streams by acquiring them or limiting their access, but that leaves Twitter to pay its own way in terms of building out innovative features. So both options are expensive. 
In 2010, for example, Twitter changed its terms of use policy, <a href="http://allthingsd.com/20100524/we-sort-of-warned-you-twitter-boots-rival-ad-networks-from-its-stream/" target="_blank">shutting out two services, including Adly and 140 Proof Inc., which used the company's tweet streams on their own ad-supported sites. </a>

Twitter's R&D Costs Are Skyrocketing Because It's Buying Out Or Blocking Outside Developers

After a five-month plus hiatus, the Chennai Metro Rail services and long distance buses linking <keyword id="9243544" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="various-districts">various districts</keyword> in Tamil Nadu recommenced operations on Monday. Similarly, trains within the state also resumed services after a break of about two months. Notably, passenger trains and long distance buses to Chennai city from other parts of Tamil Nadu and services from the state capital began on Monday after they were ceased in March owing to COVID-19. When the first Metro train departed from the Airport to <keyword id="337739" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Washermenpet">Washermenpet</keyword>, at 7 am, Industries Minister M C Sampath was among those who boarded the train and he travelled up to Nandanam station. Train stoppage time at stations has been increased from 20 seconds to 50 seconds to facilitate <keyword id="47725" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="passengers">passengers</keyword> to de-board and board by maintaining social distancing and also to ensure fresh air circulation. Stickers were stuck and markings have been made both in trains and platforms so that passengers could sit on alternate seats to ensure social distancing. The Metrorail, which has began operations in the Blueline between Airport and Washermanpet via Anna Salai, services in the Greenline from <keyword id="101692" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="St-Thomas-Mount">St Thomas Mount</keyword> to MGR Central Metro would start from September 9. The authorities had already announced that services will be open till 8 pm and there will be no inter-corridor movement between Central Metro and Airport stations requesting passengers to plan their journeys accordingly. Long distance buses run by <keyword id="3792769" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="government-transport-corporations">government transport corporations</keyword> connecting various destinations within Tamil Nadu began operations across the state. An official told P T I that the passenger turnout was moderate and online reservations "should improve" in the days to come. Barring Chennai and nearby three districts, inter- zonal (each zone comprises a number of nearby districts) bus transport, that commenced on June 1, was suspended on June 26. Later, as part of relaxations, the government had allowed buses within districts from September 1 and from now on, bus services have been resumed in a full fledged manner. Also, trains within Tamil Nadu including the daily Chennai-Coimbatore Intercity, Chennai Egmore TiruchchirappalliChennai Egmore and Coimbatore- Mayiladuthurai-Coimbatore Janshatabdi Special (except Tuesdays) resumed services. The General Manager, Southern Railway on his twitter handle said: "573 passengers were on board Special Train No. 02636 Madurai - Chennai Egmore special train, the first fully reserved train to leave Madurai as part of #Unlock4 - All the laid down safety protocols were duly adhered - RPF and frontline staff were deployed to guide passengers." Contactless ticket checking was done at the platform and temperature of passengers was monitored through thermal cameras and trains and platforms were sanitised using disinfectants. The Southern Railway, following a request of the state government had on June 27 announced cancellation of special trains (including Tiruchirappalli-Chengelpet-Tiruchirappalli Superfast Intercity Express, and Coimbatore-Mayiladuthurai- Coimbatore Janshatabdi) within Tamil Nadu. The government had requested cancellation of trains in view of an increase in COVID cases. However, such trains did not connect Chennai city to other destinations in Tamil Nadu and vice-versa though special trains that linked Chennai to Delhi were operated. VGN SS

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="1494563" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="K-Pop">K-pop</keyword> stans have been drowning out <keyword id="1200372" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="hashtags">hashtags</keyword> like #whiteoutwednesday and #whitelivesmatter on both <keyword id="6354616" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Twitter">Twitter</keyword> and <keyword id="819905" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Instagram">Instagram</keyword> with fancams and memes.</li><li>The content spam is borne out of a desire to render the hashtags essentially unusable as a means of spreading racist or anti-Black Lives Matter content.</li><li>K-pop stans also recently spammed a Dallas Police app with fancams and worked to keep fandom tags from trending out of respect for <keyword id="2771111" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="black-lives-matter">Black Lives Matter</keyword>.</li></ul>K-pop stans have emerged as hashtag heroes amid Black Lives Matter protests across the country, and after coordinating to <a href="https://www.insider.com/kpop-stans-fancams-iwatch-dallas-police-department-report-spam-blacklivesmatter-2020-6">spam a Dallas Police Department reporting app with fancams</a> earlier this week, they're using their collective might to drown out tags like #whitelivesmatter and #bluelivesmatter on Twitter and Instagram with fancams and other memes. On the morning of Wednesday, June 3, hashtags like <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23WhiteLivesMatter&amp;src=trend_clicklick">#whitelivesmatter</a>, <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23whiteoutwednesday&amp;src=trend_clicklick">#whiteoutwednesday</a>, and <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23BlueLivesMatter&amp;src=trend_clicklick">#BlueLivesMatter</a> were all trending for at least on Twitter, with the term "K-pop" itself also trending at number 14. Later, <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23kpopstans&amp;src=trend_clicklick">#kpopstans</a> also trended in the United States, with people expressing messages of support and at times, surprise, of the ways that K-pop stans had commandeered the hashtags.<div type="image" title="white hashtags trending under kpop on twitter" height="502" width="690" msid="76181610" hostid="261"></div>All of the tags are full of memes, fancams, and messages of support from K-pop fans. Similar tags on Instagram looked the same, showing K-pop content instead of "whiteout" squares.The tag spamming is intended to drown out any chatter on tags that run counter to ongoing <a href="https://www.insider.com/photos-show-global-george-floyd-black-lives-matter-protests-2020-6">protests over the killing of George Floyd in police custody</a> and other Black Americans like <a href="https://www.insider.com/breonna-taylor-shot-dead-louisville-house-police-narcotics-bust-2020-5">Breonna Taylor</a> who have recently been killed by police. That includes #whitelivesmatter or #whiteoutwednesday, both of which are intended to mimic other hashtags that have recently been circulating like <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23BLACK_LIVES_MATTER&amp;src=typeahead_clicklick">#Black_Lives_Matter</a> or <a href="https://www.insider.com/blackout-tuesday-criticism-posts-hide-resources-black-lives-matter-blm-2020-6">#BlackoutTuesday</a>.K-pop stans have put their collective fandom might to use in the digital space over the course of the protests, <a href="https://www.insider.com/blackpink-fans-blinks-trend-blacklivesmatter-sour-candy-lady-gaga-chromatica-2020-5">working to prevent fandom-related tags or topics from trending</a> out of respect for #BlackLivesMatter and later drowning out racist posts by doing what they do best: spamming fancam after fancam after fancam. They also <a href="https://www.insider.com/kpop-stans-fancams-iwatch-dallas-police-department-report-spam-blacklivesmatter-2020-6">might have contributed the Dallas Police Department's iWatch Dallas app going down</a> by overloading it with fancams (Dallas PD did not provide comment on why the interruption in service occured), and also <a href="https://twitter.com/haasch_palmer/status/1267618405378555906?s=20">recently took over a hashtag proposed by the Kirkland Police Deparment</a> (<a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/calminkirkland?src=hashtag_click">#calminkirkland</a>), causing it to trend under the "kpop" label as well. The #whitelivesmatter K-pop takeover is just the latest in a series of incidents that have made K-pop stans hashtag watchdogs on platforms like Twitter and Instagram as <a href="https://www.insider.com/global-george-floyd-black-lives-matter-protests-photos-2020-5">protests around the world</a> continue. K-pop stans flooded the #WhiteLivesMatter hashtag on Twitter and Instagram with fancams and memes to drown out racist posts

While both players fit the needs of their new, respective teams, many feel there is a considerable gap in talent between Hall and Larsson.Consider that in 2015-16, Hall scored 26 goals with 39 assists to total 56 points. The NHL world is baffled by a lopsided trade involving a former No. 1 pick

<div class="image-container float_right" style="width:400px"><div class="image"></div>Wikipedia, Jack Lew signature</div>The weak <keyword id="35208" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="dollar">dollar</keyword> has been seen as a key driver of the <keyword id="6357440" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="stock-market">stock market</keyword> recovery in recent years.
Since the early 2000s, "a weaker dollar brought higher EPS yet little inflation," wrote Deutsche Bank's David Bianco in a new note to clients. "S&amp;P foreign profits increased to 40% of total profits from 20% in late 1990s. S&amp;P EPS benefits from a weaker dollar through FX translation and usually higher commodity prices."
But in recent weeks, the U.S. dollar and the stock market have been <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/morgan-stanley-on-us-dollar-2013-3"> moving in tandem</a>.
And Bianco thinks this is good news. From his note:
It would take a very sharp dollar rally to derail EPS growth or cause oil prices to collapse, which we do not expect. But gradual dollar strength, as we do expect, would be consistent with further improvement in US economy and fiscal position, which should help raise the PE. The benefits from the increased likelihood of a sustainable US up-cycle would most likely outweigh the modest EPS headwind from a stronger USD and help drive PE expansion to a more normal 15x or higher. A stronger USD will also improve foreign investor confidence and help bring inflows to US equities."
Ultimately, the stock market isn't driven by moves in the dollar alone. Rather, their dynamic relationship is usually a reflection of something much bigger going on in the global economy and financial markets.
Here's a lightly annotated chart from Bianco. The dark blue-line reflects the correlation between the S&amp;P 500 and the dollar. As you can see, the relationship has been anything but static:
