The flyover is aimed at honoring first responders and healthcare workers.</p><p>News of the aircraft display, coming a week after the federal government <a href="https://gothamist.com/arts-entertainment/photos-videos-new-yorkers-overwhelmingly-uninspired-military-flyover">staged a military flyover over America's largest city</a>, did not please New Yorkers. </p><p>Some of the backlash stems from the flyover's path; the planes will depart from John F. Kennedy airport, loop around Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx, then head back down to Manhattan.</p><p>The passenger planes will circle the previous site of the World Trade Center, a complex of seven buildings in Lower Manhattan that were destroyed on September 11, 2001. Two Boeing 767s crashed into the two largest towers of the World Trade Center that morning, destroying the buildings and killing 2,763 people. </p><p><div type="image" title="JetBlue Flyover NYC" height="1080" width="1080" msid="75612338" hostid="261"></div></p><p>That terrorist attack still lives in the minds of many New Yorkers, driving some to ask on social media why JetBlue would fly passenger planes around New York City. </p><p>Others said the flyover does not actually appear to give substantive help to healthcare workers or first responders. Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/many-essential-workers-not-heroes-by-choice-in-america-2020-4">essential workers have expressed their frustrations</a> with being called "heroes" instead of receiving a pay raise.</p><p>On May 6, JetBlue announced it would also donate two round trip flights for 10,000 healthcare workers in New York City. </p><p>"JetBlue's mission of inspiring humanity is stronger now more than ever," said JetBlue CEO Joanna Geraghty <a href="https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20200506005689/en/">in a statement</a>. Providers at the Mount Sinai Health System and <keyword id="72226" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="New-York-City">New York City</keyword>'s public hospital system, NYC Health + Hospitals, will be eligible for those 10,000 tickets, although providers at other health systems in the region are eligible for the remaining tickets.</p><p>Any healthcare worker is eligible, the airline said in the release, "from doctors and nurses, to pharmacists, therapists, social workers, public health administrators and more."</p><p>To apply, active healthcare workers, public health officials, or first responders must be nominated at <a href="http://www.jetblue.com/healthcarehero">jetblue.com/healthcarehero</a>. Nominations are open through May 15. The certificates will be valid from July 1, 2020 through July 1, 2021.</p><p>The airline will give its 23,000 employees additional certificates "to gift to the healthcare heroes in their life." The airline said it would plan a low-altitude flight over New York on Thursday at 7 p.m. to honor healthcare workers. One-way flights from Worcester to New York cost $34, while the flight back from the Big Apple is $39. JetBlue actually offered the same discount for this route back in May. </p><p>Flights into and out of Atlanta are also heavily discounted, with Orlando flights priced at just $54 each way. An even better deal is a $108 round-trip between Atlanta and Boston. </p><p>Round-trips between Fort Lauderdale, Florida and New Orleans can be for a very reasonable $128. </p><p>On the West Coast, flights between San Francisco and Long Beach, California, are just $44 each way, while those from Long Beach to Salt Lake City are $10 more.</p><p>As with every sale of this type, there are some preconditions. Flights must be booked by Wednesday, August 8 at 11:59 p.m. ET or your local time zone, whichever is earlier. The tickets must be for <keyword id="6354692" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Travel">travel</keyword> between September 4 and November 7.</p><p>In addition, sale prices are not available for flights between September 10 and September 12 as well as on September 19 and on October 8. </p><p>The prices featured in the sale are for the airline's <a href="https://www.jetblue.com/flying-with-us/our-fares/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Blue fare</a> which allows for a free carry-on bag and a personal item. <ul class="summary-list"><li><strong><keyword id="212932" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="JetBlue">JetBlue</keyword> is requiring all passengers to wear facial coverings on flights, the first US airline to make such a ruling.</strong></li><li><strong>It said that from May 4 passsengers will have to wear a facial covering over their nose and mouth "throughout their journey, including during check-in, boarding, while in flight and deplaning."</strong></li><li><strong>JetBlue already required crew to wear facial coverings, and has also kept a number of seats empty on planes in order to keep people apart.</strong></li><li><strong>Airlines have already been devastated by the <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword>, and are now grappling with how they can resume flights and make customers confident enough to fly.</strong></li><li><strong><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/?hprecirc-bullet">Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories</a>.</strong></li></ul><p>JetBlue has become the first US airline to say all passengers must wear a face coverings while flying.</p><p><a href="http://blueir.investproductions.com/investor-relations/press-releases/2020/04-28-2020-013105468">The airline said on Monday</a>: "This new policy will require customers to wear a face covering over their nose and mouth throughout their journey, including during check-in, boarding, while in flight and deplaning."</p><p>The change will come into effect on May 4, the airline said.</p><p>It also said that passengers will be reminded of the requirement through emails before their flight and through signs and announcements in airports.</p><p>"Small children who are not able to maintain a face covering are exempt from this requirement."</p><p>JetBlue said the policy was modeled on <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html">US  Centers for Disease Control guidance</a>. Amid a national shortage of surgical masks and N95 masks, the CDC says higher-grade masks should be left for medical workers.</p><p><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-canada-requires-masks-on-all-flights-growing-trend-2020-4?r=US&amp;IR=TIR=T">Canada has already made face covering compulsory</a> on all flights to and from the country, regardless of airline.</p><p>In a statement Monday, JetBlue president and COO Joanna Geraghty said: "Wearing a face covering isn't about protecting yourself it's about protecting those around you."</p><p>"This is the new flying etiquette. Onboard, cabin air is well circulated and cleaned through filters every few minutes, but this is a shared space where we have to be considerate of others.
