Goyal said that in India, super brands will work better than super apps. "Which means that the Blinkit app will continue to operate independently. We will also start working on integrating the delivery fleet back-ends which should drive higher delivery efficiency over time," he said in the letter to shareholders. Tech integrations between the two companies will accelerate the pace of progress at both ends, he added. According to the company, the losses for Blinkit are coming down every month -- from Rs 2,040 million (about $26 million) in January 2022 to Rs 929 million ($12 million) in July. "The losses have come down owing to a) operating leverage and b) improved execution. As the GOV (gross order value) per day per store goes up, losses come down given the high operating leverage in the business," said Zomato CFO Akshant Goyal. The company said that Blinkit has also shut down a number of unviable dark stores, which were not scaling and the team will continue to evaluate non-performing stores. In just six months, the Blinkit business has scaled to 20 per cent of Zomato's food delivery GOV while being present in less than 15 cities. According to Akshant, Zomato took about 45 months since the launch of food delivery to get to the current monthly GOV scale of Blinkit. Deepinder said that there is a misconception that Zomato would have gotten to the same (or perhaps bigger) scale and size had we launched quick commerce organically seven months ago. Akshant added that in Gurugram, Blinkit GOV is 70 per cent of Zomato food delivery GOV (for June). "Quick commerce cuts across a wide range of essential spends including grocery, fruits and vegetables, beauty and personal care, OTC medicines, stationery items, among others. Therefore, we expect the overall customer base, average order value as well as monthly order frequency to be higher than food delivery," he mentioned. With continued solid execution and synergy realisation with Zomato, post the transaction, the Blinkit journey to profitability "should only accelerate", the company noted. Zomato reported Rs 185.7 crore in consolidated loss for the quarter ending June 30, compared to a loss of Rs 359.7 crore in the previous quarter. The consolidated revenue saw 67 per cent increase at Rs 1,413.9 crore from Rs 844.4 crore (same quarter last year), and 16.68 per cent up from Rs 1,211.8 crore in the last reported quarter. However, for a Delhi resident, ordering a <keyword id="21592794" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gold-coin" source="keywords">gold coin</keyword> on Blinkit didn't go as expected. <keyword id="21245638" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mohit-jain" source="keywords">Mohit Jain</keyword>, hailing from Delhi, recently shared his dissatisfaction after allegedly receiving the wrong item. According to a post on X, Jain claims he ordered a 1-gram gold coin along with a 10-gram silver coin on Blinkit, only to discover a 0.5-gram gold coin in the package instead. According to Jain, the order was prepaid, and he wasn’t home at the time of delivery, so he had his younger brother handle the transaction. After providing his brother with the necessary OTP, Jain was confident everything was okay. However, upon returning home 20 minutes later, he was dismayed to find the wrong coin in the delivery—an issue that only grew as he tried to resolve it. In a detailed post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Jain explained how he ordered 1 gm gold coin, but what he received was a 0.5 gm <keyword id="20650343" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Malabar-Gold" source="keywords">Malabar Gold</keyword> coin with a rose design instead. Jain added that he reached out to the delivery agent and "almost cried". "I ordered 1 gm gold coin from blinkit, along with the 1gm silver coin. It was all prepaid. I wasn't there at home to receive the order, so I gave the otp to my younger brother to get it received. After 20 mins I reached home and saw wrong item was delivered I. I got 0.5gm Malabar gold coin (rose design). What I ordered was 1 gm Mata lakshmi gold coin," he wrote. Jain’s struggle didn’t end with the delivery mix-up. By the time he tried to address the issue, the 20-minute return window for the product had expired. Attempts to get in touch with Blinkit’s customer support proved equally frustrating. Jain shared screenshots of his conversation with Blinkit’s customer service team, where the automated response informed him that the return window had closed and suggested only that he “provide feedback to help improve services.” He added, "I couldn't contact any support executive. I called the delivery executive and literally cried while talking to him. He has the photos of coin before the delivery but he said that he can't do anything even after knowing that he delivered the wrong item. I do have CCTV footages too of getting wrong item delivered. Also It was the first and last time of me ordering something so expensive from blinkit as their customer support is pathetic, have to chat with AI bots." In an attempt to back up his claim, Jain also reviewed CCTV footage from his home that showed the delivery of the incorrect item. He posted images of both the 0.5-gram coin he received and the screenshot of his original order, which clearly displayed the request for a 1-gram coin featuring <keyword id="20375971" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="goddess-lakshmi" source="keywords">Goddess Lakshmi</keyword>. Samsung India partners Blinkit to deliver Galaxy S24 series in 10 min

In a note sent to employees on an internal communication channel, <keyword id="6361408" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="goyal" source="Orion">Goyal</keyword> said that they are now at a stage of life where "we are maturing from running (more or less) a single business, to now running multiple large companies". "Now that the Zomato-Blinkit deal is approved, we have three companies -- Zomato, Blinkit and Hyperpure -- in the order of business size/impact," Goyal said in the note seen by IANS. "We are transitioning from a company where I was the CEO to a place where we will have multiple CEOs running each of our businesses (e.g. Zomato, Blinkit, Hyperpure, Feeding India), all acting as peers to each other, and working as a super-team with each other towards building a single large and seamless organisation," he elaborated. The company is going to call this larger organisation "Eternal", at a time when Zomato's stock gets hammered on Dalal Street (it was hovering around Rs 46 on Monday and has nosedived around 69 per cent this year). Goyal said that 'Eternal' will have multiple companies. "It already has Zomato (delivery+dining out), Blinkit, Hyperpure, and Feeding India. Eternal will remain an internal name for now," he said. The new branding has been acknowledged by the company employees, with the "Eternal" logo now being placed at the company's premises and merchandise like t-shirts. Late last month, the online food delivery platform Zomato allotted nearly 4.66 crore shares to its employees from its employee stock option plan (ESOP) pool at the face value of Rs 1. Zomato's Deepinder forms umbrella organisation 'Eternal' with multiple CEOs

The media reports said that about 50-60 stores in Gurugram have closed, with more closures expected in Noida and Delhi as the new fee structure is implemented. In addition, customers in the region have been facing difficulties placing orders at offline stores that use the Blinkit app. These locations are currently marked as 'temporarily unavailable' due to ongoing maintenance, which has prompted several customers to voice their concerns on social media. Blinkit operates approximately 400 dark stores in 20 cities throughout the country, with a significant presence in the Delhi-NCR region, where half of its stores are located. Meanwhile, Zomato's consolidated loss widened to Rs 346.6 crore (year-on-year) for the quarter that ended December 31, against a loss of Rs 63 crore in the same period last year, the company said.
