BlackBerry has come out of the wild and announced its peculiar looking Passport smartphone for the Indian market. Innovation hasn’t really been the order of day in the mobile space lately, most of the brands focusing on enhancing their products via hardware upgradations. And this is where BlackBerry is now trying something that’s really not part of any manufacturers playbook, atleast for now. Passport was globally announced last week and now makes way to the Indian shores, available for pre-order on Amazon.in and at BlackBerry stores from today up to October 10, bundled with gift card worth Rs 5000. Once the pre-booking is done and dusted, you'll be able to buy the Passport for Rs 49,990.<br />

So how is Passport any different from the existing set of BB devices? For starters, the phone is not rectangular-shaped, instead you’ll find the device squarely shaped that fits in perfectly inside your pocket, unlike most of the smartphones or phablets around. Then BB continues to offer the dual QWERTY along with touch option to its consumers that nobody else has managed to prolong in this touch-experience era. It’s not the lightest devices around at 194 grams and heavily built at 9.3-mm thickness, at a time when slim figure has become talk of the town.<br />

BlackBerry Passport comes with a 4.5 inch fairly bright display at 1440x1440 pixels and offering Corning Glass 3 protection. It’s running on the BB 10.3 platform and packs a quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU with 3 GB RAM and offering 32 GB expandable memory. It’s fitted with a 13 MP rear snapper and a 2 MP front camera but what’s the selling point for a BB device is its secured processes and email-friendly set-up. The phone’s power gets well supported by a 3450 mAh battery which has never been a concern for BB users over the years. Much like the Q10, the Passport is aimed at business consumers and anyone who's been bored out by the familiar shape and size game.<br />

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span>Microsoft</span></p><p class="caption">Guided by Satya Nadella, Microsoft is becoming a more nimble and focused company.</p></div><p></p></div></div>On Wednesday, Microsoft showed Business Insider the "November Update" to Windows 10, the first major changes since the operating system launched in July. </p><p>The November Update, which was <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/windows-10-threshold-2-update-november-2015-11">known internally</a> as "Threshold 2," is set to go live on November 12. All current Windows 10 users are eligible and Windows 7 and 8 customers can still take advantage of the free upgrade. </p><p>The updates can be broken down into two sections: Consumer and Enterprise. </p><h2>Consumer</h2><p>According to Microsoft, consumers <em>love </em>Windows 10. While the company is unlikely to say everyone hates its most important product, there are some good signs. "More than 110 million people are using Windows 10," according to Jeremy Korst, the general manager for Windows product marketing. (The figure, <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/windows-10-reportedly-has-over-120-million-users-2015-10">according to sources</a>, sits at around 120 million.) Much of this figure is made up of people upgrading their older machine to Windows 10. </p><p>Microsoft is implementing "thousands" of <strong>under-the-hood improvements</strong> that boost the speed, security, and overall usability of the operating system. According to Korst, Windows 10 will become 30% faster than Windows 7 on a comparable device. </p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_left"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span>Greg Mombert/Digital Trends</span></p><p class="caption">Cortana is like Google Now or Siri but available to desktop users.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Microsoft is improving <strong>Cortana</strong>, the virtual assistant that is built into Windows 10. Korst didn't have user numbers to hand, but told Business Insider that the uptake - especially among older machines - was something to celebrate. </p><p>In the November update, Cortana is getting a myriad of new features: The ability to write down notes (rather than dictate them) and then recognise information, such as phone numbers and addresses; a partnership with <a href="http://www.fandango.com/">Fandango</a> means that Cortana can now book movie tickets (and call an Uber to take you there); and the service is expanding to Australia, Japan, Canada and India (all in English). </p><p><strong>Microsoft Edge </strong>is also getting an update with a new Tab Preview feature (which Korst described as "something actually quite cool"), the ability to sync favourites and reading lists across devices, and a tighter integration with Cortana. When Business Insider pressed Korst about browser extensions (a <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/microsoft-edge-has-no-browser-extensions-2015-10">thorny issue for Windows 10 users</a>), he reiterated that they would come in "early 2016" but had nothing more to share. There was no reason given for their noticeable absence. </p><p>Other improvements include a better <strong>Mail </strong>client which now has a unified inbox, helping users who have multiple email accounts, according to Korst. Microsoft also gave Business Insider a clearer idea of how the <strong>Windows Store </strong>is performing: There are now over 500,000 apps and the Store has seen 1.25 billion visits since its 2012 launch<em>. </em>Big companies - such as Facebook, which owns Instagram and Facebook Messenger - are getting on-board with Universal Windows Apps, too. (Box just <a href="https://www.box.com/blog/bringing-box-windows-10/">brought out a universal app</a>.) </p><h2>Enterprise</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span>Michelangelo</span></p><p class="caption">Microsoft (right) is working hard to get business users (left) onboard with Windows 10.</p></div><p></p></div></div>"We are seeing a Renaissance of the PC," Korst told BI - and to hear Microsoft tell it you'd assume that the company was da Vinci himself. </p><p>Windows 10 is extremely popular with business users who traditionally shun new versions of the operating system. Over 12 million business devices - or roughly 10% of total users - are on Windows 10 with many more in the works, according to Microsoft, and roughly 50% of its enterprise management clients are "evaluating" it. </p><p><strong>Windows Update, and Store, for Business </strong>are the biggest deals for enterprise customers in the November Update. According to Microsoft, <strong>Windows Update </strong>reduces the traditionally high costs - in both time and money - of updating enterprise software en masse while the<strong> Windows Store </strong>offers a "flexible way to find, acquire, manage and distribute apps to Windows 10 devices." </p><p>Microsoft is also improving its <strong>Mobile Device Management </strong>suite, allowing IT departments more controls over how mobile devices are setup and used within an organisation. The rising growth of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bring_your_own_device">Bring Your Own Device</a> has meant Microsoft must offer better support for non-company (i.e. BlackBerry) devices. </p><p><strong>Azure Active Directory </strong>is also getting a refresh in the November Update, allowing employees one log-in for all their data across multiple computers and devices. Microsoft is also building out <strong>Windows Hello</strong> and <strong>Passport</strong>, enabling easier - and, most importantly, safer - credential checks for employees. </p><h2>Xbox and One Windows</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_left"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span>Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images</span></p><p class="caption">Phil Spencer heads up Microsoft's Xbox division.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Microsoft is finally putting the "Universal" into Universal Windows Apps by expanding Windows 10 to run on Xbox. This doesn't mean that Xbox games will run seamlessly on the new Lumia 950, according to Korst, but it does mean that developers have a much easier time making applications for the operating system. </p><p>Ever since Satya Nadella became CEO of Microsoft, the company's strategy has seemingly been to unify everything around Windows 10. When Business Insider asked Korst about this, his reply was interesting. "The idea of having a common operating system across the broad variety of devices has been around for a while," he said."I've been in and outside the industry and that concept has been around [for a while]. But it takes a lot of work and you can imagine, in the past, there was Windows Embedded, there was Xbox, there was Windows Phone, there was Windows, there was Windows CE. All of these different versions. Sometime in the last decade, we got closer and closer to unifying the code base. [In] the very first planning meetings on Windows 10 early last year, one of the core, base-line, fundamental aspects we had to deliver was this common core across all devices." </p><p>And so it came to be. </p><h2>The Future </h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span><a href="http://www.windowscentral.com/perfect-windows-10-part-iii-flagships-0">Windows Central</a></span></p><p class="caption">Windows 10 improves because users request new features. This is unlike anything that has gone before it.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Going forward, Microsoft still has a lot up its sleeve. While Korst was light on details, he did highlight the <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/windows-hello-is-coming-to-lumia-devices-2015-10">iris scanning functionality</a> in the new Lumia 950 devices as something that would be making its way into more Windows products. </p><p>The reason Microsoft is light on details is this: Through the Windows Insiders programme (which now has over seven million users) and user feedback which, for better or worse, is a core component of Windows 10, the company is continuously responding to demands that don't even exist yet. Here's what's in the first update to Windows 10 since it launched in July

<p class="p1">Here are the numbers:</p>

<li class="li2"><strong>EPS</strong>: -$0.95 (analysts were expecting a loss of $0.74).</li>
<li class="li2"><strong>Revenues</strong>: $20.58 billion (analysts were expecting $20.84 billion). That's an increase of 20% year-over-year.</li>
</ul>
<p>This is a miss on both the top and bottom line.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Operating loss was $544 million in the third quarter (the company had predicted between $410 and $810 million). The company reported an operating loss guidance of between $430 million and $570 million for Q4.</p>
<p>The stock is down nearly 8% after-hours. </p>
<p>Operating cash flow increased 15% year-over-year to $5.71 billion and free cash flow increased to $1.08 billion.</p>

<p>Operating cash flow increased 15% to $5.71 billion for the trailing twelve months, compared with $4.98 billion for the trailing twelve months ended September 30, 2013. Free cash flow increased to$1.08 billion for the trailing twelve months, compared with $388 million for the trailing twelve months ended September 30, 2013. Free cash flow for the trailing twelve months ended September 30, 2013 includes cash outflows for purchases of corporate office space and property in Seattle, Washington, of $1.4 billion.</p>
<p>Common shares outstanding plus shares underlying stock-based awards totaled 481 million on September 30, 2014, compared with 475 million one year ago.</p>
<p>Net sales increased 20% to $20.58 billion in the third quarter, compared with $17.09 billion in third quarter 2013. The favorable impact from year-over-year changes in foreign exchange rates throughout the quarter on net sales was $13 million.</p>
<p>Operating loss was $544 million in the third quarter, compared with operating loss of $25 million in third quarter 2013.</p>
<p>Net loss was $437 million in the third quarter, or $0.95 per diluted share, compared with net loss of $41 million, or $0.09 per diluted share, in third quarter 2013.</p>
