This year’s winners for different categories also include many learning apps. The best game of the year is <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/news/battlegrounds-mobile-india-adds-parental-control-game-limits-for-minors/articleshow/87928653.cms">Battlegrounds Mobile India</a> (BGMI) developed by Krafton as an India-exclusive version of the banned PUBG Mobile. BGMI launched earlier this year in July after much fanfare and also some delays. Another popular title that won the Users’ Choice pick is Garena Free Fire MAX. This game is so popular it topped the overall downloads on Android and iOS globally in October, according to data from <a href="https://sensortower.com/blog/top-mobile-games-worldwide-october-2021-by-downloads">Sensor Tower</a>. More games like MARVEL Future Revolution and Pokemon Unite by The Pokemon Company made it to the most competitive apps of 2021. The indie game winners of this year include Bird ALone, DeLight: The Journey Home, Huntdown, and My Friend Pedro: Ripe for Revenge. As for the coveted ‘Best App’ of the year in India, it’s <keyword id="10253519" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bitclass" source="Orion">Bitclass</keyword>, a platform enabling interactive cohort-based learning. This app features live and interactive classes on topics like software tools, languages, tech skills, hobbies and more. Google said this app highlighted the “emergence of a digital learning culture in India fueled by innovative localized solutions.” The Users’ Choice App of 2021 is Clubhouse, the app that created a new niche of social audio platforms. Clubhouse launched first in iOS last year, and its Android version was released earlier this year. Clubhouse also led to many rivals including Twitter Spaces, Facebook’s live audio rooms and more. Clubhouse also made it to the list of apps ‘Best for Fun’ along with apps like FrontRow and Hotstep that lets you learn singing, music, stand-up comedy, dancing and more. Google Play’s Best of 2021 India Awards: BGMI, Garena Free Fire MAX, Bitclass and Clubhouse top the ranks this year

<keyword id="6355629" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Google" source="Orion">Google</keyword> and <keyword id="3602182" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Meity" source="Orion">MeitY</keyword> Startup Hub, an initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), on Wednesday announced a cohort of 100 Indian early to mid-stage startups, to help these startups build high-quality global apps and games as part of the <keyword id="12397921" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="appscale-academy" source="Orion">Appscale Academy</keyword>. As part of the six-month programme, the 100 startups will be trained through a customised curriculum designed to help them drive high-quality apps for a global market. "Startups and developers are key drivers of <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>'s digital transformation journey. We at MeitY value our partnership with Google, and it gives me immense delight to further boost this spirit of innovation with the Appscale Academy Programme," said Bhuvnesh Kumar, Joint Secretary, MeitY. Startups of the Appscale Academy cohort are solving for some of India's critical needs through creative homegrown solutions. These include BitClass (a live learning platform), Farmyng Club (a social platform for farmers to improve their livelihood), Kutuki (preschool learning app), Sunita's Makerspace (a community to foster innovation), Stamurai (a platform offering affordable and high-quality speech therapy), LearnVern (a job-oriented skilling app offering courses in vernacular languages), Vivasayam (an app promoting organic farming), and many more. "India is uniquely positioned to become a leading hub for global app innovation with tremendous opportunity for Indian startups across the country, regardless of size and location, to thrive in the global app ecosystem," said Purnima Kochikar, Vice President, Play Partnerships, Google. The 100 startups were chosen from over 400 applications following an in-depth selection process. Representing the talent diversity emerging among India's startup and developer ecosystem, 35 per cent of the cohort come from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, including Surat, Vadodara, Kanpur, Lucknow, Meerut, Morbi, and many others. Nearly 58 per cent of the cohort have a woman in a leadership role. Google teams up with MeitY to help 100 Indian startups build global apps

Apple announces winners of third annual Apple Music Award; The Weeknd named as 'Global Artist of the Year'

In the email, Musk revealed that the company faces a "genuine risk of bankruptcy" if production does not increase to support a high flight rate of the company's new <keyword id="1611690" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Starship" source="Orion">Starship</keyword> rocket next year, reports The Verge. "Unfortunately, the Raptor production crisis is much worse than it had seemed a few weeks ago," Musk reportedly wrote. "As we have dug into the issues following the exiting of prior senior management, they have unfortunately turned out to be far more severe than was reported. There is no way to sugarcoat this." Raptor's engine is a critical component of Starship, which SpaceX hopes will one-day transport cargo and people to the moon and Mars. Musk also revealed that instead of taking the weekend off as planned, he was going to be working on the Raptor all night and over the weekend. He then asked employees without "critical family matters" to work too, saying it was time for all hands on deck. "The consequences for SpaceX if we can't get enough reliable Raptors made is that we then can't fly Starship, which means we then can't fly Starlink Satellite V2 (Falcon has neither the volume *nor* the mass to orbit needed for satellite V2). Satellite V1 by itself is financially weak, whereas V2 is strong," Musk added. Earlier this month Musk had said he expected Starship to be launched into orbit for the first time as early as January, providing regulatory approvals were given by the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA). Researchers have now discovered a total of 12 apps in the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/apps/news/here-are-the-winners-of-google-plays-best-of-2021-in-india/articleshow/87997438.cms">Play Store</a> that were used to steal people’s bank account details, and these apps were downloaded 300,000 times. These apps were<a href="https://www.threatfabric.com/blogs/deceive-the-heavens-to-cross-the-sea.html"> posing</a> as QR code scanners, PDF scanners, and even cryptocurrency wallets, according to researchers at ThreatFabric. The apps belonged to four different <keyword id="1019130" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="android-malware" source="Orion">Android malware</keyword> versions, and were designed to steal people’s online banking passwords as well as two-factor authentication codes. The malware even captured keystrokes and could take screenshots of users’ phones. So how did the apps bypass Google’s security check? These apps were first distributed as a legitimate app with no malware and worked as they were advertised which made users think there’s nothing wrong here. The apps also had positive reviews in the Google Play Store which would make them look more legitimate. Users were then asked to install software updates from third-party sources for additional features. Through these updates, a very advanced <keyword id="8632255" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="android-banking-trojan" source="Orion">Android banking trojan</keyword> ‘Anatsa’ would be installed in the victims’ phones. This Android trojan is capable of giving hackers remote access to a victim’s phone and wiping out one’s bank account by transferring all the money to their account. In addition to Anatsa, these apps also had other Android malware including Alien, Hydra and Ermac. Among the kind of apps that these malware were injected into, the most popular were scanning apps, a crypto tracking app and workout apps. These apps with four large Android malware families were spread in a span of only four months, and were downloaded 300,000 times. ThreatFabric also highlighted how this is actually a small malicious footprint, and this is due to the new Google Play restrictions that puts limitations on app permissions such as Accessibility Service. This was one of the commonly used methods of installing malware on phones but hackers are now resorting to download updates after the app is installed.
