New Delhi, Jan 2 () Major two-wheeler makers of the country, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor on Thursday reported decline in their domestic sales in December, ending 2019 on a negative note.
 Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL), however, reported a marginal increase in domestic sales last month.
 The country's largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp said sales in domestic market were at 4,12,009 units last month as compared to 4,36,591 units in December 2018, down 5.6 per cent.
 Similarly, Bajaj Auto also reported 21 per cent decline in motorcycle sales in domestic market at 1,24,125 units last month as against 1,57,252 units in the year-ago period. 
Chennai-based TVS Motor Co said its domestic two-wheeler sales were down 25 per cent at 1,57,244 units last month as compared to 2,09,906 units in the corresponding month of 2018.
 Niche bike maker Royal Enfield posted domestic sales of 48,489 units in December as against 56,026 units in the year-ago month, down 13 per cent.
 Bucking the trend, SMIPL said its domestic sales grew 1.1 per cent to 44,368 units in December 2019 as compared to 43,874 units in the same month a year ago.
In terms of exports, Hero MotorCorp said its overseas shipments last month were at 12,836 units as compared to 17,394 units in December 2018.
Likewise, Royal Enfield also posted 14 per cent decline in exports last month at 1,927 units as compared to 2,252 units in December 2018.
 On the other hand, Bajaj Auto reported 13 per cent increase in motorcycle exports at 1,60,677 units as compared to 1,41,603 units in the same month a year ago.
 Similarly, TVS Motor Co's two-wheeler exports grew 20 per cent at 58,375 units in December 2019 as against 48,803 units in the same month previous year. RKL RKL ANU

New Delhi, Dec 15 () British premium bike maker Triumph Motorcycles expects India sales to grow 5-10 per cent in the 12-month period ending June 2020 on the back of new products, which are expected to make up for the low offtake in first half of the year, according to a senior company official.
The company, which follows July-June financial year, plans to bring two more new products between January and June 2020 to add to its recently unveiled flagship model Rocket 3R priced at Rs 18 lakh.
It is also gearing up to roll out BS-VI compliant bikes from January and have its entire range under the new emission norms by March.
"We are seeing a decent 9-10 per cent growth in September-November compared to the same period last year. This is a positive sign after a weak July-August," Triumph Motorcycles India General Manager Shoeb Farooq told .
He said the company is looking at a growth of 5-10 per cent in December. 
"If this continues we are looking at crossing 1,000 motorcycles for the ongoing financial year (July-June), which will be around 5-10 per cent increase over the last financial year," Farooq said, adding most of the BS-IV to BS-VI transition would be managed by January-February. 
Then from March onwards, he added,"We will get into BS-VI portfolio. So, the whole four months with new BS-VI products, I think we should be able to cover for some volumes in the last three-four months."
For Triumph, he said, "The first half of the year was difficult as we didn't have new products and all the new products for us are coming in the second half."
The company had recently unveiled its flagship 2,500 cc bike, Rocket 3R which will hit the market in January. 
Stating that two more products are to be launched between January and June, he said those products are also commercially very important and contribute to almost 45 per cent of the company's volume.
"So with those two new products, Rocket 3R being there and BS-IV also giving an opportunity to increase our retail, all these things are coming together and it should be a good second half," Farooq said.
On Rocket 3R, he said,"In a good year we should end up doing 75-100 units, and for that kind of a product it is not really small."
Overall, the industry has been going through a pretty tough phase which started in August last year and till now the market continues to be weak overall across the brands, Farooq said. RKL ANU
