New Delhi, Feb 1 () Anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal has got Rs 74 crore Budget allocation, whereas a nominal increase has been earmarked for the probity watchdog Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) for 2020-21.
The Lokpal was given Rs 101.29 crore for the ongoing fiscal which has been revised to Rs 18.01 crore.
A total of Rs 74.7 crore has been allocated to the Lokpal for the next fiscal, according to the Union Budget presented on Saturday by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
The provision is for establishment and construction-related expenditure for the Lokpal, which is working from a five-star hotel here.
The anti-corruption ombudsman is functional since March last year with the appointment of its chairperson and eight members. One of its members, Justice (retd) D B Bhosale resigned last month.
The Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013, provides for the establishment of Lokpal for the Union and Lokayuktas for the states to inquire into allegations of corruption against public functionaries.
The CVC has been allocated Rs 39 crore for 2020-21, up from the revised Rs 36.65 crore for the ongoing fiscal. The provision is for secretariat expenditure of the Commission. AKV DPB

New Delhi, May 24 (IANS) Pune-based energy distribution startup, Repos Energy plans to manufacture and sell around 3,200 mobile petrol pumps in the current financial year. In a statement, the company said it also plans to get on board over 1,200 operators from across the country during FY 2020-21. "At present India needs over a lakh of fuel stations across the country to meet the demand. However, this wouldn't be feasible due to the availability of land and the huge costs involved. There are over 55,000 fuel stations which are not sufficient," says Chetan Walunj, co-founder of Repos Energy. The startup is backed by Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Group, who came on board as a mentor along with Tata Motors who have helped in making these Repos Mobile Petrol Pumps safe and efficient, the statement said. Led by IoT, a Repose Petrol Pump can safely and conveniently deliver fuel to the end customers through a simple mobile application, the company said, adding that it is integrated with cloud technology to get real-time updates. "It has highly sensitive censors called ATG to get accurate quality and quantity of diesel. Enabled with GPS and Geo-fencing, this mobile petrol pump can be monitored in real-time, to ensure the utmost transparency," it said. Repos Energy plans producing over 3,000 mobile petrol pumps in FY21

India's Melody Queen, who also composed music for Marathi films and was a producer as well, and had the distinction of being conferred with the highest civilian honours of India and France, passed away on Sunday morning at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, where she had been admitted because of Covid-related complications on January 11. Lata Didi, as she was known among her family and followers, was 92 and is survived by her siblings -- playback singer and composer Meena Khadilkar, popular singer and restaurateur Asha Bhosale, singer <keyword id="146736" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Usha-Mangeshkar" source="Orion">Usha Mangeshkar</keyword>, and music director Hridayanath Mangeshkar. She never married, but was close to the late Raj Singh Dungarpur, the aristocratic former cricketer and President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from 1996 to 1999. One of India's most loved voices, Lata Mangeshkar was the recipient of three National Film Awards, seven Filmfare awards, and of course, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989. She was conferred the Bharat Ratna in 2001, becoming the second singer after M.S. Subbulakshmi to be so honoured, and the French awarded her the Officer of the Legion of Honour. In 1974, Lata Mangeshkar became the first Indian to perform at the Royal Albert Hall, London. She had indeed come a long, long way since the time when the first song that she recorded for a film -- 'Kiti Hasaal' in 1942 -- was dropped in the final cut. Born in what was then the princely state of Indore on September 28, 1929, to the classical singer, Marathi theatre actor and writer of musical plays Deenanath Mangeshkar and his wife Shevanti (Shudhamati), Lata Mangeshkar was originally named Hema by her parents, but they later changed it to Lata after the character Latika from one of her father's musical plays. Lata Mangeshkar's association with the performing arts began when she was five and started appearing in her father's musical plays, and it continued even after her father's premature death in 1942, thanks to his good friend, the actor and director Master Vinayak (Vinayak Damodar Karnataki), who took the family under his wings. It was Master Vinayak who took Lata Mangeshkar to Mumbai, paved her way into the world of Marathi cinema, got her to take Hindustani classical music lessons from Ustad Aman Ali Khan of the Bhendi Bazaar Gharana, and introduced her to Vasant Desai, V. Shantaram's favourite music composer. But it was not until Master Vinayak's death in 1948 that the struggling singer-actor found the person whom she considered to be her "godfather" -- the music composer Ghulam Haider, who gave Lata Mangeshkar her first big break with the song 'Dil Mera Toda, Mujhe Kahin Ka Na Chhora' in the movie 'Majboor' (1948). It was her first big break. Haider took his protege to Shashadhar Mukherjee, the Filmistan boss now better known as Kajol and Rani Mukherjee's grandfather, for his film, 'Shaheed' (1948), but he turned her down because he found her voice to be "too thin". Lata Mangeshkar proved him oh-so wrong just a year later when her song 'Aayega Aanewaala', filmed on the gorgeous Madhubala in Kamal Amrohi's debut directorial, 'Mahal' (1949), became an ageless hit. And in one of life's delicious ironies, Mukherjee's grand-daughter lip-synced the 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' song, 'Mere Khwabon Mein', which was sung by none other than Lata Mangeshkar, as well as the other numbers picturised on her and Shah Rukh Khan. Since 'Mahal', Lata Mangeshkar was courted by just about every music director of note -- from Anil Biswas to S.D. Burman (and his son Rahul Dev, whose first and last song she sang), Naushad (who had asked her to sing like the then reigning nightingale, Noorjehan), Madan Mohan, Shankar-Jaikishan, Laxmikant-Pyarelal (for whom she's said to have sung 700 songs in 35 years), and Kalyanji-Anandji. And she worked with every contemporary composer of note -- from Anand-Milind, sons of Chitragupt, with whom she had also worked, and Anu Malik, Sardar Malik's son, to Ilaiyaraaja and A.R. Rahman. It is said she worked with music directors from 13 states in her star-studded career. After Noorjehan moved to Pakistan, Lata Mangeshkar became the go-to playback singer for every film producer and music composer. She did not disappoint them. Lata Mangeshkar lent her voice to an endless succession of chart-topping numbers in Hindi cinema, from 'Allah Tero Naam' and 'Rangeela Re' to the 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram' title track, to 'Lukka Chuppi' in 'Rang De Basanti', apart from songs in Marathi (she also composed the music for several Marathi films in her 'Anandghan' avatar), Bengali, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Sinhala. In 1974, the Guinness Book of Records listed Lata Mangeshkar as the most recorded artiste in human history, stating that she had recorded "not less than 25,000 solo, duet and chorus-backed songs in 20 Indian languages" between 1948 and 1974. The claim was contested by her long-time rival, Mohammad Rafi, who claimed to have sung around 28,000 songs. After Rafi's death, the Guinness Book in its 1984 edition listed Lata Mangeshkar in its entry for 'Most Recordings', but it also recorded Rafi's claim. Later editions of the Guinness Book said Lata Mangeshkar had sung no less than 30,000 songs from 1948 to 1987. For 73 years, from 1943 to 2015, when she recorded her last song for a film (the Indo-Norwegian production, 'Dunno Y2...Life Is A Moment', which was all about gay love), Lata Mangeshkar commanded a fan following and an inimitable reputation with not many parallels in the Indian performing arts. Mumbai, Jun 22 () The city civic body will operate 50 mobile dispensaries in northern suburbs of Mumbai, which have emerged as the new COVID-19 hotspots, under an initiative launched on Monday that is aimed at curbing the spread of the infection in the metropolis and bring cases to zero. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) launched Mission Zero rapid action plan under its "Chase the Virus' drive. Under the programme, that covers Borivali, Dahisar, Malad, Kandivali, Bhandup and Mulund suburbs of North Mumbai, the BMC will run 50 mobile dispensary vans which will go to different localities to conduct preliminary check-ups for 2 to 3 weeks to identify and treat COVID-19 patients. At a function organised at the Shahaji Raje Bhosale Sports Complex in suburban Andheri, BMC commissioner I S Chahal along with other dignitaries launched the "Mission Zero" rapid action plan that will be implemented under public- private partnership with the Bharatiya Jain Sanghatana, Desh Apnayen, CREDAI-MCHI and Bill Gates Foundation. "Under the 'Mission Zero' rapid action plan, 50 mobile dispensary vans with doctors and medicines will visit Mulund, Bhandup, Andheri, Malad, Borivali, Dahisar and Kandivali to conduct preliminary examination of patients," the BMC said in a release. The private organisations associated with the plan are going to provide vans, doctors and medicines, while the civic body will take care of swab testing and quarantine facilities, among other things, it said. The BMC said it aims to increase the current average case doubling rate of 36 days to 50 days. However, in certain parts of the city like Malad (P/North Ward), Borivali (R/Central Ward), Dahisar (R/North Ward), Kandivali (R/South Ward), Bhandup (S Ward) and Mulund (T Ward), the duration of doubling rate was between 19 to 24 days as on June 21. Hence, it has been decided to implement a rapid action plan to bring down the number of positive cases in the city to zero, said the civic body which is spearheading Mumbai's response to the coronavirus pandemic. "The rapid action plan will boost the efforts already in place. With the onset of monsoon, the plan is particularly critical for timely detection and treatment of patients with coronavirus and other ailments," the release stated. The civic body said after checking by mobile dispensaries, all COVID-19 suspects will be immediately isolated and swab tests conducted in the area they reside in. "This will lead to early detection and timely treatment of those infected, and at the same time, public awareness will also be created to empower citizens with correct information regarding the virus," the BMC said. New Delhi, Apr 9 () Some of the biggest names from Indian music including Asha Bhonsle, S P Balasubramaniam and K J Yesudas are joining hands for a series of virtual concerts to express their solidarity with the people working at the forefront of the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.The Indian Singers Rights Association (ISRA) announced that it will hold a three-day concert 'Sangeet Setu', starting from April 10 between 8 pm and 9 pm, with the aim to entertain the public and help them deal with the stress in these unprecedented times of lockdown. "The feed for the concert, dedicated to PM CARES, will be available on OTT platforms, Television, Digital and Social channels," the ISRA said in a release. Another huge reason behind his choice of place was the easy availability of the kind of talent that he wanted. 
 
"A lot of tech companies like Infosys and Syntel have their healthcare vertical headquartered here, so there is a lot of talent available," Joshi told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/pune-is-new-hub-for-health-tech-startups/articleshow/53201409.cms">ET</a>. "Also institutes like Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences and Ashtang Ayurveda ensure access to experts with domain knowledge and expertise." 
 
It was only last month that Govin Capital, headquartered in Singapore, announced a health-tech accelerator in Pune, with its CEO Anand Govindaluri saying, "Pune has the best start-up ecosystem because of the natural presence of good medical, engineering and management schools. There is a natural flow of talent that is automatically attracted to Pune, and so identifying management teams for start-ups with diverse backgrounds is also easier." 
 Pune has seen a lot of <keyword id="3492724" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="health-tech-start-ups">health-tech start-ups</keyword> rising in the past few years, with companies like Medsonway, which delivers medicines, Docplexus, a doctor's network, Allizhealth, which lets you store your health data, and Medifee, which provides pricing information on tests and hospital procedures, all being founded here. 
 
"There is a lot of noise in other cities; we wanted to do our groundwork and Pune provided the best environment to do that and stay under the radar. Pune lacks investor attention, but its better this way - it helps companies focus on the basics and bootstrap. Investors will get involved only when they really want to invest," said Abhijit Gupta, CEO of Praxify Technologies. 
 
However, Anurav Rane, CEO of Planmymedicaltrip.com, a medical tourism portal, says that the lack of access to investors is a major problem when it comes to Pune. 
 
"Pune is a technology hub but the start-up ecosystem needs to improve. What works for it, however, are factors like proximity to Mumbai, and for us, a large out of-town population of students and professionals, which helps create demand for our services," he said. 
 
Abhimanyu Bhosale, CEO of Live Health, is of the opinion that along with easy access to talent because of the educational and tech presence that Pune offers, several other factors like the quality of life and cost of living also make Pune substantial. 
 
"The high cost of talent in other cities like Bengaluru can make it difficult to find the right people if you are a start-up. Though Pune lacks investor support, it's not as commercialised, making it easier to manage the cost of operations, management and travel," he added.
