"He left on Wednesday in good spirits but didn't make it to rehearsals the next day," <a href="http://movies.ndtv.com/hollywood/james-bond-actor-paul-bhattacharjee-missing-393385" target="_blank">said a spokeswoman</a> for the Royal Court, who also tweeted:

Already two airlines which had direct flights between Kolkata and China have suspended their flights. Low cost carier <keyword id="6354706" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IndiGo">IndiGo</keyword> has temporarily suspended its flights between Kolkata and Guangzhou from February 6. "In line with the WHO guideline to contain the spread of coronavirus, IndiGo will be suspending its Kolkata- Guangzhou service from February 6, 2020 to February 25, 2020 and Guangzhou-Kolkata from February 7 till February 26," the airline had said in a statement. After IndiGo, <keyword id="266841" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="China-Eastern-Airlines">China Eastern Airlines</keyword> suspended its flights between Kolkata and Kunming in China from February 10 to February 29. Passengers of flights coming to Kolkata from Kunming and Guangzhou in China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok were being screened since January 17. At present, passengers arriving from Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok are being screened as no flights are operating to and from China.

New Delhi, Feb 12 () Denave, a sales-tech enablement firm, has set up a new centre in Bengaluru and plans to hire over 450 people in the next three years. The Noida-headquartered company said the new centre has been set up to kick-start next phase of Denave's business growth, and the company will tap into technology-driven local talent pool to accelerate its foothold in southern India. "We are starting with a 50-seater operation. Over the next three years, we plan to scale up the capacity to over 500 people," Denave Global CEO and co-founder Snehashish Bhattacharjee told . He added that the new centre aligns with the company's business model of syncing knowledge base, methodologies and processes with the local market domain expertise and leveraging nuances of region-specific work culture to effectively boost business. "Bengaluru is an important cog in the evolving technology landscape in India and its par excellence tech talent will help us improve our market coverage within India and accelerate our in-roads into related industries outside India," he said. Bhattacharjee said that initially, the company will spend around Rs 3-5 crore per year and over the next three years, the investment will grow to around Rs 20 crore per year. "At this point in time, we are expanding our recruitment capabilities putting dedicated engines for upskilling to meet the current business requirement. New Delhi, Apr 14 () The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has lauded India's national federation and players for helping the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic by making financial contributions and taking part in charity initiatives. In its latest newsletter, the AFC has praised the member associations, including India, which are doing a "lot of social work to help the distressed in this hour of global crisis." "The All India Football Federation (AIFF), the Guam Football Association (GFA), the J.League and the Wuhan Football Association have helped by giving donations, promoting public awareness messages and opening training centres to house medical teams," AFC stated in a press release.The AIFF contributed Rs 25 lakh to Prime Minister CARES Fund. "...players from India - Pritam Kotal, Pronoy Halder, Prabir Das and Arindam Bhattacharjee - have contributed a combined total of Rs 145,000 to various charities and donated food, and organised feeding the poor programmes in the country," the AFC said. That the rise of smartphones has been the reason for the desuetude of myriad technology products is a fact unarguably accepted today. The exponential rate of innovation in making smartphones an inseparable companion for humans has incapacitated many other products once in demand. Products that could still manage to survive this tsunami have been pushed to a state of partial disability because of declining sales over the past decade. There was no hesitance from customers end to jettison all other products for smartphones. A smartphone is a classic example of what Professor Clayton Christensen described in his book, Innovator’s Dilemma, as disruptive products, the products which are not necessarily better than the existing ones but, have certain unique advantages which places them in a better position in tradeoff with the incumbents. For example, the early digital cameras were way inferior in picture quality compared to film cameras, however, their compatibility with computers made them a sought after product. In a similar fashion, the first iPhone launched in 2007 was able to allure customers by highlighting the revolutionary combination or bundling of three different functionality in one product and diverting the attention of customers from judging the quality of each functionality separately. In 2020, Joel M. Podolny and Morten T. Hansen elaborated in their article published in Harvard Business review, that how <keyword id="6354427" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="apple">Apple</keyword> as an organization is structured around innovation. Unlike the conventional approach of adopting a divisional structure when an organization grows in size and complexity, Apple chooses to remain functionally organized, which helped it in cross deployment and optimization of resources and talent. That is probably why Steve Jobs once told that Apple is the largest start-up in the world. Like all other related industries, smartphones have undoubtedly cannibalized sales of Personal Computers, which is evident from the progressively declining sales of PC for nearly a decade. Laptops, however, could survive because of their suitability for jobs that cannot be performed on a small screen with a virtual keyboard. So, the consumption behaviour of customers towards laptops remained largely non-compensatory against mobility benefits provided by smartphones and tablets. The COVID 19 pandemic has been a blessing in disguise so far for the PC makers. With new features in personal computers incorporated by most of the brands to make them relevant for today’s work compounded with the compulsion to work from home, PCs are coming back to life again. The PC makers are able to fathom what would it take to make them central to human lives for this time. They do not intend to elude but, confront and address the deficiencies that lead to the estrangement of PCs from their patrons. Quite expectedly, Apple is playing a lead role again in this transformative journey of personal computers. With longer battery life, fractional power consumption and connectivity to a cellular network, it is rewriting the playbook again. A relentless pursuant of innovation and boldness to experiment with things has been profoundly rewarding for the company. Strategic vertical integration has been the DNA of Apple, which is palpable from the mastery it has attained in in-house chip design and development. The performance of Apple’s chip is something competitors are wary of. The burgeoning need for better communication devices for virtual team meetings, hybrid offices and remote workstations are pretty adventitious to Apple’s core competency, as it has been the pioneer in camera technology as well. The magnitude of innovativeness, agility and planned opportunism is certainly central to Apple’s success. Though the connectivity of LTE and 5G to PCs is still a matter to be sorted out from the service providers end and not technically, even then, experts predict that the current upward movement of graph with respect to <keyword id="388530" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="PC-sales">PC sales</keyword> will continue in the time to come, as there is still a colossal unfulfilled demand in industries like education compounded with a growing need for personal devices than shared and shrinking life cycle of digital devices including PCs. The report also revealed that internet usership in rural regions witnessed a much faster year-on-year growth in 2020. The report suggests that even though the Internet penetration in urban is more than 2X that of rural, usership in rural has been growing at a faster rate on a year-on-year basis. While internet users grew by 4% in urban India -- reaching 323 million users (67% of urban population) in 2020, digital adoption continues to be propelled by rural India – clocking a 13% growth to 299 million internet users (31% of rural population) over the past year. This indicates that there’s a lot of headroom for growth in rural India and this would help in bridging the urban-rural digital divide. However, the growth rate of AIU (those who have accessed internet in the last one month) has progressively reduced over the years and is the lowest in the last four years. It also finds that nine out of ten active internet users access the internet every day; On average, they spend around 107 minutes (1.8 hours) actively on the internet daily. Though the proportion of daily users is marginally higher in urban India as compared to rural India, AIU in urban India is spending 17% more time as compared to rural India. Biswapriya Bhattacharjee, Executive Vice President, Insights Division, Kantar, stated, “By 2025, there would be a greater number of internet users in rural India than in urban India. Given this, the digital ecosystem will need to evolve to address the specific needs of this emerging demography. Vernacular, Voice and Video will emerge as the game changers for the digital ecosystem over the next few years.” Small towns account for almost two out of five active internet users while the top 9 metros account to 33% of the active internet users in urban India. The report suggests, of 1433 million population in India, 622 million individuals are AIU and this translates to about 43% of the total population (across urban and rural India). However, with a sizable population not accessing the internet actively in rural India, there is huge headroom for growth in the next few years. Interestingly, the proportion of male to female AIU remains almost the same in rural and urban India. In urban India, the ratio between male to female Internet users is around 57:43 while in rural India, the ratio between male to female Internet users is 58:42. Mobile continues to remain the device of choice for accessing the internet in both urban and rural. Given the affordability of mobile devices along with the availability of cheaper data plans, accessing the Internet through a mobile device has clearly become the first choice, finds the report. Digital Services have assumed great importance for India with the government actively promoting a vision of $1 Tn digital economy. Also, Internet has become a lifeline to most of us amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Almost every decision achieves fruition with the able interference and assistance of the internet. <keyword id="1754604" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">Coronavirus</keyword> has made us acutely realize the importance of the internet. The internet helped businesses tide through the tough lockdowns, individuals connected with each other, used the opportunity to learn and acquire new skills, and provided much-needed meaning and reason to carry on. The spread of the internet has been possible thanks to the joint efforts by the government (promoting e-governance, <keyword id="1929810" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Digital-India">Digital India</keyword> vision), telecom services providers (more affordable data packages, better connectivity), and Internet Service providers (popular services like digital entertainment and e-commerce, expanding content in Indian languages). IAMAI stated that the ongoing growth of internet penetration in India provides a critical platform for all stakeholders to harness the digital revolution. The pandemic has also fueled the growth. The association expressed optimism that the government’s policies, regulations, and industry’s support will further strengthen the digital footprint in India and ensure a robust digital economy in the country.

<ul><li>‘Online video’ watching is no longer a 'young people' phenomenon. </li><li>The growth of online video users in urban India is highest among 45 and above age groups.</li><li>Online video consumption is driving internet adoption in small towns where there has been a significant growth (40%) and online video is working as a stepping-stone for the new internet users.</li></ul>Kantar’s ICUBE report breaks the common myth that only young audiences spend most of their time watching streaming platforms. It shows that the growth of online video users in urban India is highest among the 45 and above age groups. Not only has there been a surge in the number of people watching videos but there has been an increase in the frequency that they're watching too. 65% of online surfers watch video online daily. Interestingly, the proportion of 45 and above years age group people watching online video is higher among smaller cities than metros and large cities. Online video usership in urban India has grown by 25% over the last one year compared to 11% active internet user's growth. YouTube dominates on-demand video usage across genres, from music videos to news, except live sports- predominantly dominated by Disney+Hotstar. Speaking about trends in Online Video Consumption, Biswapriya Bhattacharjee, Executive Vice President, Insights Division, Kantar, said, “The one line verdict on Digital entertainment for the year is that of uninterrupted growth. There is good news, for both platforms and marketers. The digital medium is way younger than its offline counterparts but we already see a very discerning audience base. The concept of specialization is already in place and the platform allows the content creators to bring out their creative best on this platform.” Other Key findings: <ul><li>Total online video users count rose to 294 million in December 2019.</li><li>The proportion of female online video viewers is higher than males among less than 15 years old age group.</li><li>On-demand video content watchers are on the rise in Urban India. Affordable internet and a wide range of curated content, the on-demand video has seen significant growth over the last one year. </li><li>Music (47%) and movies (54%) are the two most-watched online video content in Urban India. </li><li>While Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) content has witnessed a significant surge over the last one year with users growing to the tune of 82% over the last one year, Advertising-based Video on Demand (AVOD) has also marked growth in users (29%).</li><li>The growth of social media video users has been slower compared to AVOD or SVOD growth rate. There is an increase in the number of social media video viewers by 18%. The proportion of video users accessing social media video has dropped over the last one year</li><li>The growth of SVOD is driven by smaller towns (less than 5 lakh population). SVOD users have witnessed a significant demographic change over the last one year. 37% of SVOD users now belong to small towns compared to 10% of 2018. </li><li>SVOD users are more mature as the majority of them are already using both social media and AVOD content. 99% of the SVOD users watch either AVOD or Social media videos. </li><li>While SVOD has witnessed a huge surge in the last one year, AVOD will continue to be the most-watched video platform for the foreseeable future due to its short format videos in comparison to long format videos of SVOD. </li><li>People watch AVOD content more frequently than SVOD content. But video watched on AVOD platforms is shorter than that of SVOD content. The majority of the AVOD content has a duration of fewer than 10 minutes whereas, the majority of the SVOD content has a duration of 15 minutes to up to one hour.</li></ul>

"Bala" was initially a critique on the industrial exploitation of the Ganga river with the protagonist sporting the iconic hairstyle of superstar Salman Khan from "Tere Naam" before he goes bald, reveals writer Niren Bhatt. But he was in "two minds" about the plot idea and it was after he met director Amar Kaushik, that made the Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer what it is today: about a person coming to terms with his looks. With <keyword id="6354535" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="ayushmann-khurrana">Ayushmann Khurrana</keyword> as a young man struggling with receding hairline, <keyword id="6356250" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="yami-gautam">Yami Gautam</keyword> as a small-town TikTok star and <keyword id="2069863" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bhumi-Pednekar">Bhumi Pednekar</keyword> as a girl fighting prejudices against dark skin, "Bala" opened to rave reviews and fantastic box office numbers last week. Niren, whose credits include National Award-winning Marathi feature "Ventilator" and Rajkummar Rao's "Made in China", said he is overwhelmed with the response to "Bala". "This is such a good high. My phone hasn't stopped ringing, people are writing to me. This is a wonderful feeling," he said. The film's journey began when Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films was developing Pavel Bhattacharjee's original idea about a man in Banaras, who finds out that a company dumping waste in Ganga was responsible for his balding and decides to start a campaign against it. "I wasn't too kicked about it (original idea) and was still in two minds. Then Amar came on board as a creative producer. When we sat together, he started telling me his experiences as he started losing hair in his early 20s." Conversations between the two centered around the latter opening up about the "everyday disappointments" a man with receding hairline goes through, ranging from waking up and checking the pillow for fallen hair or watch strands of hair go down the drain during shower. "It became about the complex you feel when you step out, this lack of confidence which seeps in because of balding. I knew this is the story. It's a common problem. It's not a city-specific problem, it's a global thing." Niren, who has written the film's story, screenplay and dialogues, said the process started last October and went on till May this year, with round-the-clock revisions during the shoot. The idea further evolved into a film about self-love, than just a story about a bald man. "We thought, the film shouldn't only be about balding. Beneath this, it's about self image and loving oneself. From there we thought we will have two love stories, somewhere you'll feel he might go with Yami or Bhumi but finally the love story is with himself." "Bala" is also loaded with <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> references, acting as both, a hat-tip to its cultural impact and its critique for normalising stereotypes. It was important for Niren, who feels he had to call out romanticising of everything wrong in mainstream films. This also seeped in how the character of Bala was shaped. "We wanted him to be a mimicry artiste. The whole arc was, he mimics someone else and in the end starts doing stand-up where he's playing himself. One becomes a mimicry artiste if you're a film buff. When we started writing, we had two options- either he can do Salman or Shah Rukh Khan, whatever the actor is comfortable with. "Salman, because we wanted him to be like Radhe from Tere Naam with that iconic hairstyle. But Ayushmann was more comfortable with Shah Rukh so we went with that, then he does mimicry of Ranbir Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Amitabh Bachchan. So, Bollywood was always there." JUR RB/RDS RB RB RB

<ul><li>The Indian IT sector is looking at tax cuts and incentives from the Indian government’s upcoming Union Budget on Friday. </li><li><keyword id="6372077" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="nasscom">NASSCOM</keyword>, the <keyword id="211817" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Trade-Association">trade association</keyword> of Indian IT firms, recommended that the Indian government set up effective SEZs and provide impetus to investment in R&amp;D to ensure that India hits its $5 trillion GDP target by 2024. </li><li><keyword id="6355001" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="ficci">FICCI</keyword> and other Indian players in the India IT sector are also looking at incentives to upskill the workforce and seek clarifications on taxation laws.</li></ul>The Indian IT sector might be the trump card that could turn India into a $5 trillion economy by 2024. But to be able to that, the sector needs a push, says industry body NASSCOM. India’s IT industry which accounts for over 6.6% of the country’s GDP and employs 4.1 million skilled individuals; wants the government to clear the path for its growth. And it is expecting some of the changes, this Budget. The trade association recommended that the Indian government introduce tax friendly Special Economic Zone (SEZ) policy for the next 20 years, give more incentives to push R&amp;D investment, promote India as a start-up hub by encouraging funding and easing tax. Yet another industry body FICCI also wants the government to entice global tech product manufacturers into the country with liberal incentives. It believes that the global demand for electronics, green technology, medical devices and other emerging sectors is going to rise in the next couple of years and it’s important for the Indian government to have measures in place, for their entry. Incentives for R&amp;D Apart from manufacturing, the IT sector also wants to capitalise on the country’s intellectual capital. This, in turn can spur innovation and act as a catalyst to the growth of startups in the country. Easy regulation can help, especially with regards to fintech innovation. “Regulatory sandbox initiative needs to go live as quickly as possible starting with all the financial regulators enabling all the fintech players to develop more products in an accelerated manner - this will be a big boost for the fintech landscape of India,” said Saru Tumuluri, the CEO of Khosla Labs and provider of Veri5Digital. The government should also help drive new-age technologies. Snehashish Bhattacharjee, Global CEO of Denave believes that the expectations have risen a notch since the Interim Budget. “It held promise of greater focus on emerging technologies with plans of a National programme on <keyword id="107950" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="artificial-intelligence">Artificial Intelligence</keyword> (AI) comprising establishing a national centre on AI along with Centre of Excellence (CoE). It is now important that the pace of the change is quickened and we hope the government will have multiple things in their bucket to offer in this section.” Along with infrastructure, the government should also aid the growth of skills too. “Initiatives like making National centre for Artificial Intelligence and building Centre of Excellence in collaboration with universities will open the path for the youth in India to leverage the new state-of-the-art development infrastructure and upskill themselves to widen the job opportunity pool for themselves,” said Rishi Bhatnagar, the President of Aeris Communications &amp; Chairman IET IoT Panel India. World leader for tech startups Then, there is the long-standing request of an eased tax regime. NASSCOM wants India to follow the example of Singapore and UK. They provide tax deductions to those investing in startups with an intention to improve their value. It recommends that Long Term Capital Gains from selling shares of unlisted companies should be exempted from tax. And, Shorter Term Capital Gains should only be taxed at 15% rather than vary with an individual’s tax slab. “Lowering the GST slabs in manufacturing devices can pose as an opportunity for the youth to lead India in this endeavour with innumerable innovative start-ups,” states Bhatnagar. In order to incentivise startups, small and medium enterprises that have a turnover of less than ₹500 million should also be exempt from the Minimum Alternate Tax. Taking away the 18.5% taxation rate of MAT would also promote the ease of doing business in India along with clarifying on how tax is treated once a contract is terminated or modified. Saurav Goyal, the CFO of Money View, states, “The Government as part of the Budget should provide necessary clarity in terms of taxation norms and make a requisite change in the policies in accordance with the latest business practices, post factoring another regulatory requirement.” Goyal also asserts that, going forward, India should follow and consultative model that can help the country comply with international best practices. That, in turn, will allow India balance its national interests while providing access to the global market.
