Rajeev Khera’s Chakki Peesing is a company that grinds and delivers freshly ground pulses, grains and wheat to consumers in Gurugram. Khera’s family comes from Madhya Pradesh and it was during the pandemic, while providing grains to migrant workers camping in his society, an idea to start his own business was born. The best variety of wheat called Sharbati comes from Madhya Pradesh and Khera wanted to bring the flour made from that wheat to his customers across Delhi NCR. In 2020, Khera decided to start a hyperlocal business of supplying freshly-ground flour to customers in Gurugram. He explains: “Our fundamental proposition is against packaged atta (flour) as preservatives are added to it to increase shelf life. Our promise is to serve freshly-ground flour from the best wheat. When we started in 2020, the challenge was to reach our clientele, who are mostly women as they buy groceries. Says Gaurav, “I spend ₹1,000 a week on promotions and it fetches me 25 queries.” He manages to gain customer leads from social platforms and services them on WhatsApp by sharing his catalogue. Taking the <keyword id="9485939" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="covaxin" source="Orion">Covaxin</keyword> vaccine by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi showed confidence in Indian Science, he said at the Times Now Summit 2021. Everyone is trying to figure out the immunology and fortunately, Bharat Biotech has figured it out. "We are coming out with a nasal vaccine, we are thinking that Covaxin can be given as first dose, the second dose can be given a nasal, that is also strategically, scientifically very important because with the second dose, if it is a nasal one, you stop the transmission of the virus...," Ella said. Nasal vaccine works well if someone has been infected or if someone has been vaccinated with one dose, he added. About the PM taking the Covaxin shot, he said, "What would a scientist like to have? A country head taking his vaccine. That is the best satisfaction a scientist can get... It shows confidence in the Indian science, confidence in the startup, and confidence in our innovation...". Speaking about a vaccine for Zika, Ella said Bharat Biotech is ready with a vaccine for Zika virus. Phase I is complete. The government has to take up more trials because there are more cases now. "We were the first company in the world to develop the Zika vaccine in 2014... We were the first one to file for a global patent for Zika vaccine", he added. Ideal time for COVID-19 booster shot is six months after the second dose, says Bharat Biotech MD

<keyword id="1583080" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="AirAsia-India">AirAsia India</keyword> is conducting an internal investigation after <keyword id="3821099" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ex-tata-sons">ex-Tata Sons</keyword> chairman <keyword id="6356895" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cyrus-Mistry">Cyrus Mistry</keyword> raised red flags over functioning of the airline. During investigations, it surfaced that senior executives of AirAsia had complained to the company board and <keyword id="6355725" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Group">Tata Group</keyword> about serious lapses in business practices time and again, but no actions were taken. 
 
AirAsia executives highlighted few complaints, saying AirAsia was being "run" by Malaysian parent AirAsia Bhd, in contravention of FDI rules, and that the Indian venture was being "overcharged" by the Malaysian company. 
 
According to Indian rules, foreign airlines can only own up to 49% in domestic airlines but effective management control must remain with the Indian partner. 
 As per reports, AirAsia India executives had warned board chairman Ramadorai and director <keyword id="6578785" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharat-Vasani">Bharat Vasani</keyword> about potential losses, and the way the airline was being run. Some executives had questioned AirAsia chief <keyword id="82750" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tony-Fernandes">Tony Fernandes</keyword> on entering into what they termed as “costly financial deals” with associate companies of AirAsia Bhd. Email correspondence between February 2014 and July 2015 highlights these complaints. 
 
"A thorough investigation was sought. The details of fraudulent transactions were discovered through an audit. It was taken to its logical conclusion and an FIR was filed against the resistance that has been discussed in the media in recent days," ET quoted a source as saying. 
 
In an email sent to Ramadorai, former executive Gopalan warned him about the breach of FDI and also hifhlighted many other issues. "Revenue management has to be real time and handled by persons familiar with the Indian marketplace and its behaviour", but the entire process is in Kuala Lumpur (the headquarters of AirAsia Bhd). "This is a significant issue from an effective management control perspective also," Gopalan had written. 
 "We have been mandated to use AGSS for outsourcing aspects of finance and accounting, HR functions, procurement and IT," Gopalan wrote in a mail to AirAsia Global Shared Services (AGSS). He also wrote that AGSS has exceeded the amount as compared to what it would have been of they were to inhouse the entire operation. There was also a warning that using Tune <keyword id="35450" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="insurance">Insurance</keyword>, another associate company of the AirAsia group, would reduce AirAsia India's earnings by 50%. 
 
The issue of selecting an advertising company was also brought to light. "We have decided not to go with PHAR, which is an AA (AirAsia) Group Company. This could lead to lesser rates as well," Gopalan noted. 
 
Another issue discussed in the mail was related to authority over clearing payments and expenses. Companies typically assign the responsibility of approving payments over a specified limit to the board and payments related to the day to day expenses to the management but according to a person familiar with the process, in AirAsia India, day to day approvals on key payments, travel, initial offer letters to employees etc came from Fernandes. 
 
"This process was followed because the authority of this director (Fernandes) was agreed by the board. Every agreement and contract that AirAsia India executed with an Indian or foreign agency and related party followed exactly the same process," he told ET. 
 
Another person familiar with the operations of the airlines told ET that only capital expenditure is approved by the board. 
 Gopalan and several colleagues - such as <keyword id="2190104" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gaurav-Rathore">Gaurav Rathore</keyword>, commercial director; <keyword id="217165" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amit-Singh">Amit Singh</keyword>, director of flight operations; and <keyword id="3821101" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="najam-rao">Najam Rao</keyword>, head of security - quit AirAsia India in 2015. Chandilya's contract expired in March 2016. 
 
Gopalan also sought a meeting with Mistry. "I brought out (facts) to you so that the (Tata) group is not blindsided...This meeting is requested solely with the intent of protecting the Tata group and to enable me to discharge my duties honestly towards the position I was appointed for," he wrote.

Building the Infrastructure 
Without infrastructural support, no amount of incentives can cause change. In recognition of this, banks have been asked to launch 1 million new PoS (point-of-sale) terminals by March and 2 million Aadhaar-based PoS terminals by September. Apart from banks, post offices and fair price shops will be promoting cashless transactions, taking digital payments to the grassroots. 
 
All duties have been waived for manufacturers of PoS devices, fingerprint readers, iris scanners and other biometric payment devices. Additionally, ₹10,000 crores have been allocated to Bharat Net, a project that is taking high-speed broadband to Gram Panchayats in India. 
 
All these strategically-designed measures would strengthen the resilience of India’s digital economy. The ramp in digital payments would not only increase the tax base but would help small business secure more loans for their working capital needs. Fintech companies would have the needed information to approve loans even faster and offer a variety of financial products based on frequency and type of receipts.

The Finance Minister announced a reduction of presumptive tax for SMEs with the annual turnover of up to ₹2 crores, from 8% to 6%. However, this reduction is valid only for receipts by non-cash means.

Of 4.2 crore people in the organized sector, only 1.74 crores filed tax returns and of 13.94 lakh companies, only 5.97 lakh have filed returns. 
 
These figures indicate how skewed the system currently is. The initiatives being proposed by the government will increase the tax base, the tax rate can be reduced without impacting government revenue. A further reduction in the tax rate would be beneficial for businesses and the economy; thus beginning a virtuous cycle of growth.

Budget 2017-18: Forging a bright future for
Fintech and Startups

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday announced a cut in customs duty on minerals such as lithium, copper and cobalt, which are critical for nuclear energy, renewable and other sectors, to give a fillip to the energy transition. In her budget speech in Lok Sabha, Sitharaman recalled that in the interim budget she had announced a strategy to sustain high and more resource-efficient economic growth, along with energy security in terms of availability, accessibility and affordability. "We will bring out a policy document on appropriate energy transition pathways that balances the imperatives of employment, growth and environmental sustainability," she said. Noting that minerals such as lithium, copper, cobalt and rare earth elements are critical for sectors like nuclear energy, <keyword id="19895602" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="renewable-energy" source="keywords">renewable energy</keyword>, space, defence, telecommunications, and high-tech electronics, she proposed to fully exempt customs duties on 25 critical minerals and reduce BCD (basic customs duty) on two of them. This will provide a major fillip to the processing and refining of such minerals and help secure their availability for these strategic and important sectors, she said. She stated that energy transition is critical in the fight against climate change. To support energy transition, she proposed to expand the list of exempted capital goods for use in the manufacture of solar cells and panels in the country. Further, she stated that in view of sufficient domestic manufacturing capacity of solar glass and tinned copper interconnect, I propose not to extend the exemption of customs duties provided to them. Noting that steel and copper are important raw materials and to reduce their cost of production, she proposed to remove the BCD on ferro nickel and blister copper. "I am also continuing with nil BCD on ferrous scrap and nickel cathode and concessional BCD of 2.5 per cent on copper scrap," she said. About the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which was rolled out earlier this year, he informed the House that in line with the announcement in the interim budget, PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has been launched to install rooftop solar plants to enable 1 crore households obtain free electricity up to 300 units every month. The scheme has generated remarkable response with more than 1.28 crore registrations and 14 lakh applications, and we will further encourage it, he stated. She further stated that a policy for promoting pumped storage projects will be brought out for electricity storage and facilitating smooth integration of the growing share of renewable energy with its variable &amp; intermittent nature in the overall energy mix. She stated that nuclear energy is expected to form a very significant part of the energy mix for Viksit Bharat. Towards that pursuit, our government will partner with the private sector for setting up Bharat Small Reactors; research &amp; development of Bharat Small Modular Reactor and research &amp; development of newer technologies for nuclear energy, she informed the House. The R&amp;D funding announced in the interim budget will be made available for this sector, she added. The development of indigenous technology for Advanced Ultra Super Critical (AUSC) <keyword id="20421620" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="thermal-power" source="keywords">thermal power</keyword> plants with much higher efficiency has been completed, she informed the House. A joint venture between NTPC and BHEL will set up a full-scale 800 MW commercial plant using AUSC technology and the government will provide the required fiscal support, she added. Moving forward, the development of indigenous capacity for the production of high-grade steel and other advanced metallurgy materials for these plants will result in strong spin-off benefits for the economy, she pointed out. A roadmap for moving the 'hard to abate' industries from 'energy efficiency' targets to 'emission targets' will be formulated, she stated adding that appropriate regulations for the transition of these industries from the current 'Perform, Achieve and Trade' mode to 'Indian Carbon Market' mode will be put in place. She further stated that an investment-grade energy audit of traditional micro and small industries in 60 clusters, including brass and ceramic, will be facilitated. Financial support will be provided for shifting them to cleaner forms of energy and implementation of energy efficiency measures. The scheme will be replicated in another 100 clusters in the next phase, she stated. FM cuts customs duty on minerals critical for energy transition

Shares of <keyword id="19956271" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ola-Electric-Mobility" source="keywords">Ola Electric Mobility</keyword> were in a freefall today, tanking about 4.55% on the NSE and 4.88% on BSE. Today also marked 30 days since the company was listed on the bourses (August 9th), bringing down shutters on the one-month lock-in window anchor investors are mandated to hold stocks for, before deciding to offload 50% of shareholding. Around 18.18 crore shares, or about 4% of company's outstanding shares were eligible for trading in the market post the 30-day lock-in, which hurtled Ola's stock towards Rs 100. While the stock managed to gain some ground later in the day, and was trading at Rs 114.10 when the markets closed today, slightly up from its intraday low of Rs 109. However, it still remained a far cry from its all-time high price of Rs 157.4, which it had hit on August 20th, 2024. Ola Electric, which currently dominates the Indian EV space, debuted on stock exchanges last month, and was looking to raise Rs 6,145.56 crore via fresh issue, along with an OFS (offer for sale) of 8.49 crore equity shares. The IPO was oversubscribed by around 4x. Going ahead, the Bhavish Aggarwal-led startup is also set to face intense competition from fellow EV maker Ather Energy. With its IPO set to hit the markets soo, Ather is looking to raise Rs 3,100 crore via fresh issue, and an OFS of about 2.2 crore equity shares. Per the DRHP (draft red herring prospectus) filed by Ather, its net worth for FY24 stood at Rs 545.9 crore. The remaining 50% of Ola Electric's shares will be eligible for offloading by anchor investors in 60 days from now, or 90 days since the date of allotment. While this event will certainly test Ola's buoyancy in the market, the fact remains that Ola was off to a stellar start days after its listing, when the stock price accelerated to Rs 157.4 on August 20th, 2024. This skyrocketed the company's valuation well beyond that of established Indian 2-wheeler giants like Hero Moto Corp and Bajaj, albeit briefly. In fact, for a small period, Ola Electric Mobility had recorded valuations higher than that of Tesla's. For perspective, Ola's market capitalization, as of today, stood at Rs 50,327.57 crore. Bajaj Auto, which listed on the exchanges in 2008, presently has a market value of Rs 3,02,993.79 crore, while Hero Moto Corp, which was listed in 2003, currently has a market value of Rs 1,14,788.59 crore. However, ever since hitting this peak on August 20th, Ola's prices have only been on a downward journey. However, now that the stock has witnessed a price correction of sorts, the question remains- has Ola corrected enough, or are we still in for further downside? As per SEBI registered Investment Advisor Gaurav Goel, Ola continues to trade in the expensive zone despite recent correction. "The recent mercurial rise in the stock has been more on the promise it holds for the future. It is the largest <keyword id="23099550" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="E-Scooter-Manufacturing" source="keywords">E-Scooter Manufacturing</keyword> company in India, with 31% market share in the E2W sector, selling 3,29,618 scooters in FY24. Recently, it also forayed into the motorcycle segment with several new “Roadster” models at an attractive pricing. It is building an Ola Gigafactory for cell production in Tamil Nadu, and a Battery Innovation Centre in Bangalore", Goel explained. "However, we feel that despite attractive future plans, the stock is currently overpriced. Despite rising revenues, we need to see how quickly it is able to translate widening losses into profits", he continued. <h2>Gaping holes, take a long-term approach </h2>It is hard to overlook the wide, year on year losses that the company continues to incur. As of March 2024, the company had racked up an operating loss of Rs 1,266 crore. Per its Q1FY25 financials, the company's losses before taxes during April-June 2024 grew to Rs 347 crore, up from Rs 267 crore in the year-ago period. The company's cash flows from operating activities continued to be in red, rising from Rs 2,520.25 crores in March 2021 to Rs 15,072.71 crore as of March 2023. Generally, if a company is regularly registering negative cash flows from its primary, operational activity, it is a troubling sign, indicating that the company is spending more than what its making. Ola continues to rack up major losses in its cell business, which reported a loss of Rs 5 crore in Q1FY25. The segment's operating expenses, however, doubled from Rs 11 crore in Q1FY24 to Rs 22 crore in Q1FY25. Per Agrawal, the indigenously developed 4680 Bharat Cell, which will be integrated in all Ola vehicles starting Q1FY26, will help in bettering the company's profit margins, given that cells constitute around 30-35% of overall vehicle's cost. Which is why experts suggest not to buy into any short-term euphoria surrounding the stock, and instead, opt for a long-term approach. While there is scope, it is largely unchartered waters, which will have to face the tides of multiple market volatilities and cycles, before it starts to generate sustainable, significant returns. Goel believes that while the new vehicle segment is a good space to enter, the competition here is going to be stiff. Customer actual response in terms of sales is yet uncertain. "We recommend a buy on dips on this stock. An entry level of Rs 100 would be good point for purchase. It should be kept for the long-term, for a period of at least 3-5 years for realization of its potential"

Gogoi warned the BJP and its leaders saying they cannot scare the opposition whether it is AAP, Congress or any other party. "Their illusion lies shattered with this rally. If fair Lok Sabha elections had been held in 2024, the BJP would have been in opposition and we would have been in power. The BJP-led government is not going to complete its five-year term," he stressed. Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case linked to the alleged excise policy scam and has been granted bail by the Supreme Court. He said the notice for the motion was submitted in the Speaker's office at 9.20 am on Wednesday. Meanwhile, BRS MP Nama Nageshwar Rao also submitted a notice to move a no-confidence motion against the Union Council of Ministers. The K Chandrashekar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is not a part of the INDIA alliance. The alliance of 26 opposition parties, INDIA, had decided to move the motion in order to make Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="narendra-modi" source="Orion">Narendra Modi</keyword> speak in Parliament on the Manipur violence, senior leaders of the front said. The Congress earlier also issued a whip in the Lower House of Parliament for its members to be present in its parliamentary office by 10.30 am on Wednesday to "discuss some important issues". Although the no-confidence motion by opposition parties is bound to fail the numbers test, opposition parties argue that they will win the battle of perception by cornering the government on the Manipur issue during the debate. They contend that it is also a strategy to make the prime minister speak in Parliament on the crucial matter even as the government has been insisting that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will reply to the debate on the Manipur situation. Earlier in the day, the opposition parties met at the chamber of the Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge to chalk out the future course of action.

In this environment how does Wildcraft plan to limit its wastage and pollutants in manufacturing and packaging process? Dublish: Wildcraft India has the philosophy 'Leave No Trace' embedded into its DNA and has followed on this path for the past 22 years. As the company subscribed to the view that nature should not be tampered with, it has always been a big believer of reusability and has encouraged its consumers to use their products for as long as they last - which can be a lifetime. In the current context, we already are in the middle of a health and economic crisis and the next one will soon be an environmental crisis. Considering if all of us consume disposable masks every day and throw it out then this would become a huge burden on the environment, with red flags around garbage collection and increasing impact of the virus. In such a scenario a mask such as the one offered by our brand with 95 percent filtration levels is reusable for up to 30 days; this would facilitate in reducing environmental impact significantly. Tell us more about your collaboration with Ministry of Textile, Ministry of Health Dublish: With the advent of the virus into India, there was a huge surge in demand for respirators and hazmat suits, especially for medical professionals who stood at the frontlines, battling the pandemic day in and day out. It was at this time that we were approached by the Ministry of Textiles with an urgent requirement to assist medical professionals and provide them with the necessary gear as they combat Covid-19. This motivated and encouraged us to take the baton and produce a product that comes with 95 percent particulate filtration efficiency at 0.3 microns and is reusable for up to 30 washes, differentiating the Wildcraft SUPERMASKTM different from any other reusable mask.
