Often, customers prefer cash payments for their everyday essentials, due to lack of awareness or inconvenient digital payment interface. Our partnership with Bharat Gas will simplify the payment experience and benefit millions of Indian households,” said Mahendra Nerurkar, Director, Amazon Pay. But Amazon Pay is not the first to offer this service. Utility bill payments has long been a feature that almost every other digital payment wallet has. Digital payments leader Paytm introduced the feature over a year back and also helps users book HP cylinders. Several other payment platforms followed suit and consumers got the chance to pay via BHIM or through Google Pay, PhonePe etc.

Amazon India offers an option to pay gas bills online, but it might be too late

<keyword id="2750705" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Google-Pay">Google Pay</keyword> in collaboration with Visa and banking partners on Monday rolled out tokenisation across its platform, enabling users to safely transact with their cards and use Tap-to-pay feature on near-field communication (NFC)-enabled point of sale (POS) terminals and online merchants. The feature is now available to users of Axis and SBI Card, with Kotak and more banks expected to follow suit very soon. With tokenisation, Google Pay <keyword id="6355645" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Android">Android</keyword> users can use their debit or credit card to make payments through a secure digital token attached to their phone without having to physically share their credit or debit card details. "We are hopeful that the tokenisation feature will further encourage users to transact securely and safely in the current times, and expand merchant transactions both online and offline," said Sajith Sivanandan, Business Head: Google Pay and NBU-India. The feature also works with online merchants, delivering more native and seamless OTP experiences without any redirects to 3D Secure sites. With tokenisation, Google Pay will enable NFC-capable Android devices to make contactless payments at over 2.5 million Visa merchant locations. It will allow users to scan and pay at more than 1.5 million Bharat QR enabled merchants and the customers can pay bills and recharges from within their Google Pay app using their card. "Visa recently crossed over 1 billion token credentials globally and with Google Pay live in India, we expect these numbers to rise significantly. We are excited to partner with Google to further accelerate digital payment innovations in times to come for the Indian market and beyond," said TR Ramachandran, Group Country Manager, Visa, India &amp; South Asia. To enable the tap and pay feature using the smartphone phone, users will have to do a one-time set up by entering their card details and follow it by entering the OTP they get from the bank to add their card to the Google Pay app. After the registration, the feature can be used to make payments at NFC-enabled terminals, the company said. "We are already live for Axis and SBI Card holders with Visa payments network and are working closely with Kotak and other banking partners to further expand the adoption of card-based payments with tokenisation in India," Sivanandan added. Google Pay partners with Visa bringing tap-to-pay for Indian users

 <keyword id="3204218" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Shailaz-Nag">Shailaz Nag</keyword>, COO and Co-founder, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=PayU+India&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">PayU India</a> said, “With the provisions of BBPS, PayU believes more serious players will apply for authorization to work as BBPOU with <keyword id="30067" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="RBI">RBI</keyword>. Further admittance of prominent industry players in the business will only enhance the country’s payment ecosystem”. 
 The company believes the BBPS license gives a big boost to its payment ecosystem. In an official statement the company mentions this as getting one step closer to achieve its mission of ‘Simplifying payments and <keyword id="6354241" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Financial-Services">financial services</keyword> for everyone’. 
 
BBPS is an integrated bill payment system in India, offering inter-operable and accessible bill payment service to customers through a network of agents, enabling multiple payment modes, and providing instant confirmation of payment. This will allow consumers to pay their bills anytime and anywhere in India.

PayU India becomes first
non-bank entity to get Bharat Bill Payment Unit license

New Delhi, Dec 30 () State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has cleared Rs 1,700 crore of vendors dues, its CMD P K Purwar said on Monday.
The corporation has also made salary payment to its employees for November, Purwar added.
"Payments worth Rs 1,700 crore have been released to our vendors and contractors of BSNL," he said.
Overall, the outstanding to creditors is Rs 10,000 crore, he added.
"Employee salaries for November too have been released," he said adding that monthly wage cost stood at about Rs 800 crore.
In October this year, the government approved a Rs 69,000 crore revival package for BSNL and MTNL that includes merging the two loss-making firms, monetising their assets and giving VRS to employees so that the combined entity turns profitable in two years.
The Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved a plan to combine Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd - which provides services in Mumbai and New Delhi - with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd that services the rest of the nation.
Over the last few weeks both the companies launched theirs VRS plans and thousands of employees of BSNL and MTNL have opted for voluntary retirement, which is expected to save about Rs 8,800 crore annually in salary bills for the debt-laden telecom companies.
The two firms will also monetise assets worth Rs 37,500 crore in the next three years.

BSNL clears Rs 1,700 crore in dues to vendors; pays Nov salaries: CMD

The <keyword id="6355512" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-Cabinet">Union Cabinet</keyword> has approved changes in the Customs and Excise Act, which is required for rollout of Goods and <keyword id="645517" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="services-tax">Services Tax</keyword> (<keyword id="6354679" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="GST">GST</keyword>). The amendment will result in abolition of 16 cesses and surcharges, union excise and service tax charged on various goods and services. 
 
The cesses that would be abolished include <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/markets/economy/Krishi-Kalyan-Cess-from-June-1st/articleshow/52504911.cms">Krishi Kalyan</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/swachh-bharat-campaign-goes-digital-private-companies-can-now-choose-their-cleanliness-projects-online/articleshow/57730445.cms">Swachh Bharat</a>, resulting in the government losing Rs 65,000 crore. The government will make up for this loss by finding resources from the budget. 
 
"Amendments or repeal of various provisions of other Acts which will no longer be relevant consequent on <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/get-ready-for-gst-draft-bills-have-been-approved-by-cabinet/articleshow/57751339.cms">rollout of GST</a> will result in cleansing of the irrelevant portions from the Statute Book and reduce multiplicity of taxes," said an official release from the government.

These resources would come from higher GST mop-up, since more entities would now be <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/tax-collections-will-exceed-rs-17-lakh-crore-despite-demonetisation-arun-jaitley/articleshow/57773980.cms">eligible to pay taxes</a>. 
 
GST rates are not yet finalised, which means that it can’t be ascertained whether consumers <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/traveling-eating-out-and-phonebills-to-get-expensive-as-arun-jaitley-plans-to-hike-service-tax/articleshow/56850084.cms">eating in restaurants or paying phone bills</a> would benefit after removal of cesses and surcharges or not.

The bills amended include the Customs Act, 1962, the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 and the Central Excise Act, 1944. 
 
It also approved cancelling the Central Excise Tariff Act, 1985 and changing or cancelling the provisions relating to Acts under which cesses are levied.

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">Getty/Steve Jennings</div></div></div><ul><li>Stitch Health is a startup that's trying to help doctors communicate better about their patients. </li><li>The company, which officially launched Monday, raised an undisclosed amount in its series A, which was led by Benchmark Capital. </li><li>The first tool, Connect, is essentially Slack for doctors, where healthcare professionals can chat about a particular patient and share information. </li></ul> When it comes to healthcare, some of the communications tools used may seem a bit dated.Pagers, fax machines and phone calls all still have a place in the system, and the information one doctor has about a patient may not be the same information another healthcare professional has about that same patient. That can leave a lot of room for miscommunication and mistakes to arise, which can be frustrating for both doctors and patients who have to repeat themselves or clarify. It's something Stitch, a startup that's launching Monday, is trying to smooth out through a set of communcations tools. The company has raised an undisclosed series A led by Benchmark Capital's Bill Gurley with tech-startup accelerator Y Combinator also taking part.Stitch CEO Bharat Kilaru, who was previously the executive director of a primary care practice, told Business Insider that the idea to start Stitch came from his own experience seeing the challenges doctors at the practice faced when trying to communicate with one another.The Stitch platform will have different tools aimed to help healthcare providers be more productive. The first, called "Connect," is a communications platform that helps teams chat about a particular patient in one central location. It's essentially Slack, but specifically geared toward medical professionals."We use Stitch primarily as an urgent communications mechanism," Michael Krause, chief revenue officer at Luminance Recovery, a rehabilitation center in California, told Business Insider. Say someone who is taking part in the program wants to leave early, against clinical advice. The staff member in charge of the patient at that time could send out a message to the patient's whole care team, which would pop up as a notification on their devices, prompting them to call in and assist the staff member. Being able to do that quickly is something they wouldn't have been able to do if they were just using electronic health records, which are used to keep <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/electronic-health-records-innovate-2016-8">patient records,</a> Krause said. The Luminance team has been using Stitch for two years, and Krause said 100% of the staff members have been using it. So far, Gurley's invested in just four: One Medical, Brighter, a digital health company <a href="https://www.cigna.com/newsroom/news-releases/2017/cigna-acquires-brighter-a-leader-in-digital-engagement-of-health-care-consumers">acquired by Cigna on Thursday</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/solv-the-opentable-for-urgent-care-is-expanding-to-10-states-2017-12">Solv</a>, and now Stitch. Finding companies that don't just tackle on healthcare spending has been a challenge, he said. "A lot of entrepreneurs go into healthcare because they want to make a difference and make an impact. And as they build a business model, many of them are building tools that make the problem worse," Gurley said. For example, electronic health records are mainly built to help healthcare providers communicate with health insurance plans. That doesn't do a whole lot for patients, who are <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/healthcare-spending-out-of-pocket-by-state-2017-9">increasingly on the hook</a> for paying more of their healthcare costs. The consumerization of healthcare is something Gurley, who will join Stitch's board, hopes the healthcare system will shift toward as a way to drive down the cost. "I've seen others that just help carriers extract every last dollar. The software's being used to drive up healthcare as a percentage of the GDP, not improve it," Gurley said. "There may even be a quixotic tilt to want to improve things for the customer and hope that the market's moving in that direction enough that it relates to sales.
