The Congress, which is also protesting against the Farm Bills passed by the Parliament, has chalked out a detailed programme of agitation, which will begin on September 26 with an online "Speak up for Farmers" campaign. The Congress has decided to take out marches in every state, after which memorandums will be submitted to the respective governors on September 28 against these farm bills. Punjab and Haryana at the centre of farmer’s protest As many as 31 farmer organisations have joined hands for the 'Punjab Bandh'. Several organisations in Haryana, including the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), said they had extended support to the nationwide strike called by some farmers' bodies against the bills. Farmers in Punjab and Haryana will go on a strike today in protest against the contentious farm bills that were passed in the Parliament. Heavy police force has been deployed in both states to deal with any untoward situation. Even shopkeepers in most of the major towns in both the states shut their shops, expressing solidarity with the farmers. In Punjab, several trains have been suspended since September 24 as farmers began a three-day 'rail roko' campaign against the Bills. On September 24, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said he is ready to lead the political fight against the three anti-farmer bills passed in Parliament. The chief minister urged all political parties to rise above petty considerations and come on one platform to unitedly fight against the bills, which he said will destroy farmers. His remarks come a day ahead of the Punjab bandh announced by several farmer groups against the bills. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), an ally of the BJP-led NDA government, announced a statewide 'chakka jam' to mark their protest. The SAD has been a longstanding ally of the ruling BJP. SAD's Lok Sabha MP and Sukhbir Badal's wife Harsimrat Kaur Badal, had resigned from the Union Cabinet on September 17, citing her party's opposition to the three Bills. In Tamil Nadu, members of some farmer organisations protested in Trichy and Tambaram on Friday morning. Led by Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association President P Ayyakannu, half-clad farmers held their protest outside the Collectorate in Trichy while carrying human skulls in their hands. They demanded that the Bills should not be made into law. Whereas, in Karnataka, members of the Karnataka State Farmers' Association on Friday held protests at various places against the three farm Bills passed in Parliament, which however has elicited a lukewarm response so far. Although the farmers begun a blockade since morning to register their protests at highways entry points in Bengaluru, it received a lukewarm response as vehicular movement in CBD areas was not affected much. Farm bills won't be implemented in Maharashtra, says Ajit Pawar

Today’s Bharat Bandh is reportedly said to be a major one as it marks the one year of President Ram Nath Kovind’s assent for the three farm laws. In the last ten months, the protesting farmers have called out for several chakka jams (strike), and bharat bandhs before also to keep up the ongoing protest. Meanwhile, Delhi and Haryana police have issued advisory notices in view of the protest by farmers. Haryana police said in a statement that several arrangements have been made according to the state government. The police also warned the public that they could face heavy traffic jams and disruptions today on various roads and highways. Delhi police has also intensified its patrolling and has deployed extra personnel in border areas, especially in Delhi. One of the police officials said that no protestor will be allowed to enter the city from three protest sites at the city’s border, as per media reports. These things will remain closed today — All central and state government offices, factories, schools, colleges and other educational institutions will not function. No public and private transport facilities will be allowed to ply on road. No public functions will be allowed to be conducted, as per the protestors. Banks under All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC) affiliates will also remain closed today as they decided to stand in solidarity with the protesting farmers. These things will remain open — Markets, shops will remain open as the traders and shopkeepers are not part of the protest. Also, in states where the state government is supporting the ongoing protest, the impact is likely to be intense as compared to other states. All emergency and essential services including medical stores, hospitals,relief and rescue work will be operating in the states with full capacity. Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Odisha and Tamil Nadu are among the 12 states that have chalked out a plan for the 'Bharat Bandh' so far. The farmer leaders have decided to continue their sit-in until their first and major demand to repeal all three farm laws is not accepted. While the government was agreeable in the fifth government-farmer meet to do amendments to the three bills, farmers were pushing for these laws to be scrapped. These are the services that will be affected by 'Bharat Bandh' tomorrow: Transport services: Transport services are likely to be affected as some auto and taxi unions have decided to join Bharat Bandh. Many other associations are sympathetic towards farmers’ cause but are refraining from supporting the bandh. The general secretary of Delhi Auto Rickshaw Sangh, and Delhi Pradesh Taxi Union, Rajender Soni, said that many "important" auto, taxi and last-mile vehicle driver unions would not join the strike. Shops and small businesses: Farmers said they have also appealed offices and shops to close for one day across the country, along with dairy suppliers and local transport operators. This could disrupt the supply of milk and vegetables. Emergency services and weddings exempted: Emergency and hospital services will continue unaffected. The farmer representatives from around 40 unions said that the weddings and emergency services including ambulances would be exempted from the nationwide protest. Bharat Bandh on December 8: Banking and transport services may be affected, emergency services exempted

As part of his ambition to make <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword> a green economy, Union minister <keyword id="19897455" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nitin-gadkari" source="keywords">Nitin Gadkari</keyword> wants to slash GST on hybrid vehicles and has vowed to rid the country entirely of the over 36 crore petrol and diesel vehicles. "One hundred per cent," <keyword id="19934966" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gadkari" source="keywords">Gadkari</keyword>, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, said when asked whether it is possible for India to get rid of petrol and diesel cars altogether. "It is difficult but not impossible. This is my vision," Gadkari said in an interview to PTI. He said India spends Rs 16 lakh crore on fuel imports. This money will be used for improving the life of farmers, villages will be prosperous and the youth will get employment, the minister said. Gadkari did not give any timeline to meet this ambitious target which even proponents of green energy believe is mind bogglingly difficult. The proposal to reduce GST on hybrid vehicles to five per cent and to 12 per cent for flex engines has been sent to the Finance ministry which is considering the requisition, Gadkari said. The minister said he firmly believes the country can end fuel import by promoting the use of biofuels. Environmental activists welcomed Gadkari's vision for increasing green mobility, but also struck a word of caution by flagging the use of fossil fuels in the production of electricity. "In India, we are still heavily dependent on a fossil fuel-based energy system to power electric cars, and this needs to be changed. There is urgent need to ensure 100 per cent renewable energy alongside electric vehicles to tackle the climate crisis," <keyword id="21152150" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="avinash-chanchal" source="keywords">Avinash Chanchal</keyword>, a campaigner for Greenpeace India, told PTI. Gadkari said he has been pitching for alternative fuels since 2004 and is confident things will change in the coming five to seven years. "I cannot give you a date and year for this transformation to take place as it is very difficult. This is difficult but not impossible," Gadkari asserted. He said he firmly believes that given the speed with which electric vehicles are being introduced, the coming era will be of alternative and biofuels and this dream will come true. Gadkari said auto companies such as Bajaj, TVS and Hero are also planning to manufacture motorcycles using flex engines and auto rickshaws using similar technology too were on the way. "I roam around in a car that runs on hydrogen. You can see electric cars in every other household. People who used to say this was impossible, have changed their views now and started believing in what I have been saying for the last 20 years," the minister said. "Tatas and <keyword id="19906966" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ashok-leyland" source="keywords">Ashok Leyland</keyword> have introduced trucks that run on hydrogen. There are trucks that run on LNG/CNG. There are 350 factories across the country of bio-CNG," he said. "Definitely, a revolution is taking place. Gadkari vows to eliminate petrol, diesel vehicles in India, bats for lower tax for hybrid cars

Protests will be held at railway stations across the country against privatisation," he said. "We will observe a complete Bharat bandh on March 26, when our protest against the three farm laws completes four months. On March 19, the farmers will observe "Mandi Bachao-Kheti Bachao" day, he said. Farmer unions call for Bharat bandh on March 26

There was no impact of the <keyword id="6379373" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="bharat-bandh">Bharat Bandh</keyword> as early office goers were on their routine at the metro stations and bus stands, traffic was also smooth at the DelhiNoida Direct Flyway (DND) in the early hours of Friday in the national capital. No impact of Bharat Bandh in Delhi as metro, bus services remain unaffected

In view of the Friday <keyword id="6379373" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="bharat-bandh">Bharat Bandh</keyword> call by <keyword id="3627663" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="farmer-unions">farmer unions</keyword> against three farm laws, the <keyword id="6358992" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-Police">Delhi Police</keyword> have strengthened the security arrangements in the national capital. A senior police official told all personnel of the Delhi Police will be on the ground as part of the arrangements made for the Bharat Bandh. The police officials in Delhi Police Head Quarters said the security arrangements include <keyword id="391298" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Police-Control-Room">Police Control Room</keyword> (PCR) vans, <keyword id="77285" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Quick-Response-Team">Quick Response Team</keyword> (QRT) vans and motorcycle patrolling teams. "The entire Delhi Police will be on the ground. Delhi Police has made adequate law and order arrangements in view of the bandh call given by farmers. All district authorities have been directed to put all their men on the ground for patrolling from the morning itself," said an official spokesperson of the Delhi Police. The official also said the police have made adequate preparations at the borders, where farmers have been protesting for four months. "We have taken adequate measures at the borders as well. Barricades and pickets will be in place so that no person with ill intention can cause disturbance and enter the city," said Delhi police. The Bandh call was given by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) on the completion of four months of farmers' protest. Farm unions have demanded the repeal of the three agricultural laws, a law on MSP and procurement, cancellation of all police cases against farmers, rollback of electricity and pollution bills and for reducing prices of diesel, petrol and gas. In a statement, the farmer union said: "All minor and big roads and trains will be blocked and all services will remain suspended except for ambulance and other essential services. Bharat Bandh: Security arrangements strengthen up in national capital

Bengaluru, The 'Bharat Bandh' call given by nearly a dozen farmer Associations on Tuesday in protest against the three farm laws enacted by the Centre recently failed to evoke much response across <keyword id="6354780" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karnataka">Karnataka</keyword>. Except minor incidents like farmer's leaders asking shopkeepers to shutdown their establishments were reported from districts like Mandya, Hassan, Mysuru and other rural parts where <keyword id="1992536" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="farmers-associations">farmers associations</keyword> enjoy a certain degree of clout. Like Bengaluru almost all major cities -- Managluru, Hubli-Dharwad, Belagavi -- did not evoke much of a response here too. All government offices, banks and shops were functioning normally with the Karnataka farmers Associations deciding to observe a 12-hour Bharat Bandh (India Shutdown), across the state other than the tech hub. Farmers Associations in Karnataka had made it clear on Monday itself that their Bandh would be observed across the state except Bengaluru, hence it did not affect Bengaluru's life. Several workers' unions, including the Karnataka State Road <keyword id="89428" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Transport-Corporation">Transport Corporation</keyword> (KSRTC) employees are also extending moral support to the bandh call. "The day-long bandh will be observed across the state except in Bengaluru, where the shutdown will be held on Wednesday, as our farmers are in towns and villages to stage demonstrations and participate in protest rallies," Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha president Kodihalli Chandreshakar had told IANS. The farmer organisations have, however, exempted essential supplies and services, including hospitals from the dawn-to-dusk bandh. Bharat Bandh evokes lukewarm response in Karnataka

Leaders of political parties said that the government must act fast on the farm laws otherwise all supplies to the national capital will be stopped. "The central government should have also talked with the farmers before implementing the farm laws. The decision was taken at their own level. The farmers had also issued notice to the government about their protest and had raised questions related to the laws but in vain. The government has forcefully imposed its own law on the farmers" said a Congress leader. The protestors issued a warning to the government, saying that if the talks on December 9 with the government do not yield meaningful results, they will intensify their protests across the district. Instead, their only option is to take their complaints to boards and appellate authorities appointed by the local sub-divisional magistrates (SDM) and district collectors. Traders who are licensed by the AMPC authorities can have their license revoked if a farmer complains of non-payment. Bharat Bandh: Farmers in India call for a nationwide shutdown on December 8

Hyderabad, Buses of state-owned Road Transport Corporation in <keyword id="68884" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Telangana">Telangana</keyword> went off road on Tuesday amid growing <keyword id="6367209" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="support">support</keyword> for farmers groups-called <keyword id="6379373" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="bharat-bandh">Bharat Bandh</keyword> that received support from all parties in the state except the BJP. With employee unions of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) backing the shutdown call, buses were confined to depots. <keyword id="3614635" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="mahatma-gandhi-bus-station">Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station</keyword> and Jubilee Bus Station, two biggest and busiest bus stations in Hyderabad, wore a deserted look. Some commuters who reached the bus stations early morning to board buses to their destinations were seen returning disappointed. Most of the cabs and auto-rickshaws also went off the roads as the unions of taxi and auto drivers backed <keyword id="10393033" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-bharat-bandh">the Bharat Bandh</keyword> in support of the demand by farmers' groups asking for rollback of the new farm legislations by the central government. With the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) declaring total support to the bandh, it is likely to evoke good response across the state. Opposition Congress, Left and other parties, farmers' and people's organizations and trade unions are also backing the protest. Ministers, MPs, state legislators and other public representatives will be participating in protests across the state. Chief Minister and TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao has appealed to party cadres to make the bandh a total success. TRS has called upon its leaders to stage road blockades on highways to show solidarity with agitating farmers. Backing the struggle by farmers against the three farm laws, Rao said the laws adversely impacted their interests. It was precisely because of that the TRS opposed the Bills in Parliament, he said and stressed the need for the agitation to continue until they were repealed. Rao's son, cabinet minister and TRS working president K. T. Rama Rao will be leading the protest at Borgula on Hyderabad-Bengaluru national highway. The chief minister's daughter and member of legislative council K. Kavitha will lead rasta rook near Kamareddy. Home minister Mohammed Mehmood Ali, finance minister Harish Rao, agriculture minister Niranjan Reddy and other ministers will also lead the protests on highways. K. T. Rama Rao Mr. Rao urged owners of shops and business establishments to reopen their premises after 12 noon. He also wanted transport companies to resume their operations only in the afternoon. Dubbing the new farm legislation as 'black laws', Rama Rao called for raising a unified voice against a conspiracy to hand over the farm sector to the corporate entities and make farmers labourers at the hands of the big corporate players Leaders and workers of Congress, CPI, CPI (M), other Left parties will also stage protests. Telangana Non Gazetted Officers Union also extended support to the nationwide bandh call. Welfare Party of India, Jamaat-e-Islami, Student's Islamic Organization (SIO), Jamiatul Ulema and several other groups have also announced support to the shutdown. Director General of Police M. Mahender Reddy directed police officials to take all preventive steps to maintain law and order in view of the bandh call. "It has also been instructed that none should be allowed to take law in their hand," said a statement from DGP's office. Cyberabad police has issued a traffic advisory in view of the bandh. Several protests might be held at various places, including on roads and junctions in and around the city, affecting regular movement of traffic, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S.M. Vijay Kumar said. People going to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport are advised to take the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and plan their travel accordingly, he said. Free passage for emergency services and ambulances will be ensured on all roads. Osmania University and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad have postponed the examinations scheduled for Tuesday. The exams would be held later. BJP has opposed the bandh call. Party's state union leader appealed to farmers and citizens at large not to support what they call 'sarkari bandh'. They also appealed to people not to fall into the political trap of the opposition parties. Union minister of state for home G. Kishan Reddy said it was unfortunate that a state government has officially declared that it is supporting the bandh. He urged the farmers not to mortgage their interests by believing the TRS and other opposition parties on the propaganda unleashed against the three farm laws. Bharat Bandh: Bus movement affected in Telangana as TSRTC backs shutdown

The protesters staged a road blockade near Lake Town and Bangur virtually choking the the key arterial stretch that connects Shyambazar through Dum Dum. West Bengal's Left Front-backed organisations also gathered at Kolkata's Jadavpur 8-B <keyword id="10396134" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="bus-stand-area">bus stand area</keyword> supporting the shutdown call on Tuesday. They will take out a rally extending support to the shutdown call. Tram and bus services were also disrupted in Kolkata's College Street area as agitators staged protests on Tuesday morning. Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) youth arm members also demonstrated at Esplanade area in support of the shutdown. Appealing to the people to join the shutdown, farmer leaders said they will block key roads during their 'chakka jam' protest from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday as part of their nation-wide stir. West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress has extend "moral support" to the nationwide strike and in solidarity will stage sit-ins in various parts of the state for the next three days. The state's incumbent formation, however, said that it would not enforce the strike called by the farmers as the party is against bandh culture. "We support the issues raised by the farmers. We will hold protest programmes and sit-in demonstrations. The farmers have our moral support," veteran Trinamool Congress MP Sougata Roy said. Making the appeal on behalf of 16 Left and associate parties, West Bengal Left Front (LF) chairman Biman Bose already urged the people of the state to make Bharat Bandh a grand success. A rally is likely to be organised by 16 Left and associate parties from Entally market at 11 a.m. which would be attended by Biman Bose, Surya Kanta Mishra and many senior CPI-M leaders. In support of the shutdown, Left organisations and the Congress jointly took out a rally this morning in Birbhum's Rampurhat area. In Bankura district, the farmers staged a sit-in demonstration near Govindonagar while transport workers in the district suspended daily public transport services there in solidarity with the farmers. In Jalpaiguri's Dhupguri area, LF-backed protesters also disrupted public transport services in support of the 'Bharat Bandh'. Meanwhile, the Centre has issued an advisory directing all the states governments and Union Territories to tighten security and ensure peace is maintained throughout the country during the 'Bharat Bandh'. The farmer leaders also said that no one should be forced to participate in the shutdown, adding it is a four-hour symbolic bandh for an ideological cause. 'Bharat Bandh' call receives partial response in Bengal

<keyword id="6359960" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="amravati">Amravati</keyword>, The <keyword id="10396256" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Left-and-Congress-Parties">Left and Congress parties</keyword>' leaders are participating in the <keyword id="6379373" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="bharat-bandh">Bharat Bandh</keyword> (nationwide strike) called by <keyword id="45092" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="farmers">farmers</keyword> on Tuesday in Vijayawada. Along with their cadres, a few leaders held their party flags while Congress supporters wore their tricolour 'kanuvas' (towels) as they demonstrated in front of the Vijayawada bus station. "He has to take back all his <keyword id="2312218" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Corporate-policies">corporate policies</keyword>. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is twisting everything and talking. Modi's ways will not be allowed henceforth. It has reached a peak. His ways are for the benefit of corporates," said a Left leader protesting in the city. He said "Rs 62 lakh crore worth agriculture business has been handed over to big corporates at a time when farmers lost their income due to Coronavirus". Commenting on the alleged facility of enabling farmers to sell their wares anywhere, the protesting leader said farmers are not getting the same price in different states. He cited the example of corn not fetching the price it got in <keyword id="37102" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Andhra-Pradesh">Andhra Pradesh</keyword> compared to Bihar. "What price we are getting in Andhra Pradesh is not coming in the places where it has been privatised. His (Modi's) arguments are aimed at covering his mistakes," said the communist party leader. Similarly, senior Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Ramakrishna demanded that these farms bills should be withdrawn in the coming days. "These options of buying anywhere and selling anywhere is for the corporates to hoard and sell at any cost," said Ramakrishna. He alleged that Modi is working for the benefit of corporates. "All over the country farmers and others are participating in the bandh. People from all walks of life are voluntarily extending support," he said. However, there is not much influence of the nationwide strike in villages near Bhimavaram in West Godavari district. All the shops are open for business in villages like Seesali, Kalla, Kallakuru, Doddanapudi Chinnapulleru and others. All educational institutions will be shut in the southern state on Tuesday while APSRTC buses will not run till 1 p.m. Similarly, government offices will open after 1 p.m. On Monday, Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister Kurasala Kannababu said the state government will allow peaceful farmers' protest. He highlighted that several rounds of talks have already been held between the Centre and farmers' unions on new agriculture bills and hoped that a solution could be found soon to allay farmers' fears on minimum support price. "Our party (YSRCP) believes that if the farmer prospers the state and nation will prosper and ours is a farmer-friendly government," Kannababu added.
