A 77-year-old man from <keyword id="50863" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bhubaneswar">Bhubaneswar</keyword> tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 119, officials said. The man, a resident of the <keyword id="229206" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Madhusudan">Madhusudan</keyword> Nagar area of the city, got infected after coming in contact with a relative who tested positive some days back, the Information and PublicRelation department said. <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="75442410" title="Coronavirus cases in India climb to 31,332— with Maharashtra and Delhi seeing a continuous rise" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> The fresh case was reported from Bhubaneswar after a gap of 14 days. The previous case was reported on April 14. The total number of persons infected with the deadly virus in the city is 47. Of them, 20 are undergoing treatment and 26 have recovered. A person died on April 6. Contact tracing and follow-up action are being done after the fresh case was detected, officials said. With this, the number of COVID-19 cases in Odisha rose to 119. Of them, 80 are undergoing treatment, 38 have recovered and one dead. As many as 2,421 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the state on Tuesday, while a total of 29,108 tests have been conducted till date, sources said. Of the 119 COVID-19 positive cases, 47 are from Khurdadistrict of which Bhubaneswar is a part, 19 each from <keyword id="9138744" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="bhadrakand-jajpur">Bhadrakand Jajpur</keyword>, 16 from Balasore, 10 from Sundergarh, two eachfrom Kendrapara and Kalahandi, and one each from Cuttack,Puri, Dhenkanal and <keyword id="54730" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Koraput">Koraput</keyword> districts. Bhubaneswar, Apr 20 () Voicing concern over one-third of states 74 COVID-19 cases having West Bengal link,Odisha government on Monday asked district collectors toremain alert on people's movement and trace out all whoreturned from the neighbouring state in last 28 days.The state government's direction in this regard camesoon after the Health and Family Welfare department said that10 the 13 of the fresh corona cases (5 each from Bhadrak andJajpur districts) reported within 24 hours, have West Bengallink."The state government has asked all the districtcollectors to remain alert on people returning from WestBengal. At least 24 of the state's 74 COVID-19 positive caseshave West Bengal link," state government's COVID-19Spokesperson Subroto Bagchi said during a media briefing here.He pointed out that 10 West Bengal returnees fiveeach in Bhadrak and Jajpur district - have tested positive forCOVID-19 on Monday.Detection of more COVID-19 positive cases is a goodsign as it minimizes risk and prevents uncontrolled spread,Bagchi said:"At the same time, it is a matter of concern for thestate that many people work in the West Bengal and they travelbetween the two states. One-third of all Odisha COVID-19 cases have Bengal link: Officials

(Eds: with fresh inputs)Bhubaneswar, May 9 () Twenty-three Surat returneeswere among 24 people who tested positive for COVID-19 inOdisha on Saturday, taking the total cases in the state to294, the Health and Family Welfare department said.Of the 24 fresh Covid cases, Ganjam reported 18, whilethree came from Mayurbhanj and one each from Nayagarh, Bhadrakand Sundergarh.Nayagarh district reported its first novel coronaviruscase when a 40-year-old Surat returnee tested positive to thedisease. With this, the COVID-19 has now spread to19 of the 30districts of Odisha.At present, there are 224 active cases in the stateand 68 people have recovered. Two people from Bhubaneswar havesuccumbed to the disease, an official said adding that 343persons are in hospital isolation.The state health department had on Friday conducted3,348 tests for COVID-19, he said, adding that Odisha has sofar tested 56,322 samples.As per an analysis by the department, 246 of thestate's total 294 cases have been reported from five districtsof Ganjam, Jajpur, Khurda, Balasore and Bhadrak.Meanwhile, the Odisha government said it is proper tobring back Odias, mostly migrant workers, stranded in otherstates before a possible "mahasankraman" (mass infection) ofCovid-19 hits India after nationwide lockdown is lifted.Odisha COVID-19 spokesperson Subroto Bagchijustified the state's decision to facilitate the return of thepeople stranded in different parts of the country due tolockdown since March 25.Noting that some people in the state havereservations about the government's decision to bring back themigrant workers from highly infected states which led to asurge in the number of COVID cases in Odisha, Bagchi said: "Itis absolutely right from legal, humanitarian, moral, realisticand scientific basis. Is it not better to bring back the Odiasbefore a mahasankraman strikes the country in June or July?""It is a fact that the returnees are now adding tothe number of positive cases in the state. But all the casescame from quarantine centres where the returnees are kept. Itis a good sign that positive cases are coming from thequarantine centres and not from the community," Bagchi said.Apart from migrant workers, the Covid spokespersonsaid, students, professionals, pilgrims and patients, are alsostranded in different places.
