Bhubaneswar, Apr 22 () Three persons from Bhadrak district tested positive for COVID-19, taking the total number of such cases in Odisha to 82, officials said on Wednesday.The three fresh cases, all males aged 40, 55 and 35,are from Basudevpur block of the district and have travelhistory to Kolkata, said the district administration.The total number of COVID-19 patients in Bhadrakdistrict rose to 11 with the new cases and of them, nine are undergoing treatment, while two have recovered. The district had reported five cases on Monday.The total number of coronavirus infection cases in the state climbed to 82 with the fresh cases. There are 51 active cases at present, whereas 30 persons have recovered. A 72-year-old man from Bhubaneswar had died of COVID-19 on April 6.The Health and Family Welfare department said a record number of 2,027 RT-PCR tests was conducted on Tuesday in Odisha. The total number of tests conducted in the state stands at 13,775. "We appreciate the dedication and hard work of all the microbiologists, technicians and other support staff of these laboratories," the department said.Of the 30 districts in Odisha, 10 have so far reportedCOVID-19 cases. Bhubaneswar, Apr 15 () The Odisha government onWednesday removed the containment zone tag from Puruna Bazararea in Bhadrak town which was imposed after a person testedpositive for the COVID-19 there.Bhadrak Collector Gyana Ranjan Das announced therelaxation through a Twitter post and said that the lockdownrestrictions will continue to prevail in all places across thedistrict.The restrictions will also continue in Surya Nagar,Bomikhal, Satya Nagar, Sunarpada and Kapila Prasad areas inBhubaneswar, an official said.The containment, however, remains in force indifferent places of Puri, Ganjam, Jajpur and Kendraparadistricts.The state governments COVID-19 spokesperson SubrotoBagchi said the police have registered 147 cases forviolations of different regulations and guidelines related tothe coronavirus outbreak.He said a total of 109 persons have been arrested fordifferent violations between April 14 morning to April 15morning.Speaking about the migrating workers from otherstates, Bagchi said food and accommodation along with healthfacilities have been provided to around 77,000 "guest workers"through 2,553 camps. Bhubaneswar, Apr 24 () Five more persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Odisha's Bhadrak district on Friday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 94, officials said on Friday.All five of them, aged between 24 and 41 years, had recently returned to Bhadrak from neighbouring West Bengal, the state Health and Family Welfare Department said, adding the contact-tracing and other follow-up actions were being undertaken.One of those afflicted hailed from Basudevpur, while two each belonged to Tihidi and Dhamnagar blocks in Bhadrak district, an official of the department said.Taking the fresh patients into account, the number of COVID-19 cases in Bhadrak district rose to 16. Two of them have recovered.Bhadrak District Collector Gyan Das said two new containment zones have been identified in Arandua gram panchayat and Brahmaniagon gram panchayat, and measures initiated to tackle the situation.Of the 94 COVID-19 cases, 60 are active and 33 have recovered from the disease. One person, a 72-year-old man from Bhubaneswar, died of the disease on April 6.Khurda district, of which Bhubaneswar is a part, has so far reported the maximum number of cases at 46, followed by Bhadrak at 16, Balasore at 12 and Jajpur at 10.A total of 2,474 samples have been tested till the midnight of April 23 in eight laboratories, the Health Department official said.In the wake of the sudden spike in coronavirus cases in Bhadrak, Balasore and Jajpur, the state government has imposed a 60-hour complete shutdown in the three northern districts since 10 pm on Thursday.Together, the three districts accounted for 34 COVID- 19 cases in the past six days. (Eds: Updating the number of positive cases) Bhubaneswar, Apr 20 () Thirteen more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Odisha on Monday, taking the total number of cases to 74 in the state, an official from the Health and Family Welfare Department said. Of the 13 new COVID-19 positive cases, five each are from Bhadrak and Jajpur, two from Balasore and one from Sundergarh district, the official said. "Contact tracing of all the new cases are going on and follow up action is also being taken," he said. Out of the total 74 cases detected so far, 53 are male and 21 female, including a two-year-old girl. "Twenty-three per cent of positive cases are between the age group of 41 and 60 years, while nine per cent in the age of 60 and above," the official said. The number of active COVID-19 cases in Odisha is now 49. A total of 24 patients have been cured and a 72-year-old man from Bhubaneswar died due to coronavirus. A total of 10,641 samples have been tested so far, including 1,731 rapid antibody tests. "Ten persons of Bhadrak and Jajpur districts with recent travel history to West Bengal have tested positive for COVID-19 during the last 24 hours. All people with travel history to West Bengal during the last 28 days are requested to inform the local sarpanch, block development officer or tehsildar and quarantine themselves at home," the Health and Family Welfare Department said in an appeal. Following detection of five new cases, the Bhadrak district administration on Monday declared Basudevpur and Bhandaripokhari blocks as containment zones. Bhubaneswar, Apr 24 () A 40-year-old man from Odisha's Bhadrak district has tested positive for COVID-19, raising the total number of cases in the state to 90, officials said on Friday. The man has a travel history to Kolkata, the Healthand Family Welfare Department said, adding the contact tracing and other follow-up action is being undertaken. With the fresh case, the number of COVID-19 patients in Bhadrak increased to 12, of whom 10 are active, officials said. Bhadrak District Collector Gyan Das said new containment zones have been notified in Arandua Gram Panchayat and Brahmaniagon Gram Panchayat. Of the state's 90 COVID-19 cases, 56 are active as 33 persons have recovered from the disease. A 72-year-old man from Bhubaneswar died due to the contagion on April 6. In the wake of the spike in coronavirus cases in Bhadrak, Balasore and Jajpur, the state government has imposed a 60-hour complete shutdown in the three districts since 10 pm on Thursday. One more tests positive for COVID-19 in Odisha; cases rise to 90

Bhubaneswar, Apr 28 () Seven people tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Odisha on Tuesday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 118, officials said.Of the seven cases, four were reported from the western district of Sundergarh and three in the coastal district of Bhadrak, they said.With these seven fresh COVID-19 cases, the number of active cases in the state increased to 80, while 37 people have recovered till now. One person died in Bhubaneswar on April 6, according to the officials.The total cases in Bhadrak district has climbed to 19 while in Sundergarh it is 10, an official said.According to the Bhadrak district administration, all the three cases have links to West Bengal. Two persons tested positive in the Basudevpur block while one person hailing from the Bont block tested positive for COVID-19.A total of 1,584 samples were tested on Monday. The cumulative sample tests in the state till midnight of Monday was 26,687, the officials said.Of the 118 COVID-19 positive cases, 46 are from Khurda district of which Bhubaneswar is a part, 19 each from Bhadrak and Jajpur, 16 from Balasore, 10 from Sundergarh, two each from Kendrapara and Kalahandi and one each from Cuttack, Puri, Dhenkanal and Koraput districts. Seven new COVID-19 cases in Odisha, total rises to 118

<ul><li>Odisha on Saturday reported 17 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total number to 287, the Health and Family Welfare Department said. </li><li>Twelve new cases were reported from <keyword id="127019" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ganjam-district">Ganjam district</keyword>, three were detected in Mayurbhanj and one each in Bhadrak and Sundergarh district, it said.</li><li>At present, there are 222 active cases in the state and 63 people have recovered.</li></ul>Odisha on Saturday reported 17 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total number to 287, the Health and Family Welfare Department said. The total number of infected people rose to 83 in Ganjam district. The number of cases in Bhadrak stood at 25 and total 13 cases were detected in Sundergarh. At present, there are 222 active cases in the state and 63 people have recovered. Two people from Bhubaneswar have succumbed to the disease, an official said. There are currently 298 people in hospital isolation in the state, he said. The state health department had on Friday conducted 3,348 tests for COVID-19, he said, adding that Odisha has so far tested 56,322 samples. As per an analysis by the department, 240 of the state's total 287 cases have been reported from five districts. Ganjam reported 83 cases, Jajpur 55, Khurda 50, Balasore 27 and Bhadrak 25. In a span of eight days, Ganjam has reported 83 cases. The majority of the casesreported from Ganjam were those of Surat returnees, the official said. Tribal-dominated Sundergarh district reported 13 cases, while eight cases were detected in coastal Kendrapara, followed by the northern districts of Mayurbhanj at seven and Jagatsinghpur at five. 12 of 17 new Coronavirus cases in Odisha are only in Ganjam District, as on May 9

Bhubaneswar, Apr 24 () The Odisha government on Friday stepped up contact tracing in coronavirus hotspots in Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts to identify people who have recently returned from other states, especially from West Bengal. The state government has imposed a 60-hour complete shutdown from 10 pm Thursday till April 26 in the three districts following a spurt in COVID-19 cases.With one more person found infected with the deadly virus in Bhadrak on Friday, the three districts together account for 34 of the total 90 positive cases in the state.While Bhadrak and Jajpur have 12 confirmed cases each, Balasore has 10 patients.The administrations of the three districts with help of sarpanchs (village heads) and urban local body functionaries have launched a drive to trace the people who had come in contact with coronavirus patients.Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay has asked people to either observe total shutdown guidelines or face legal action.It has come to light that almost all coronavirus patients in the three districts either had a travel history to West Bengal or they had come in contact with returnees from other states.As part of measures to prevent entry of people fromBengal, the police chief said 37 roads connecting Balasore district to the neighbouring state are now manned by Odisha Police. Sources said dedicated Rapid Response Teams (RRTs),health officials from SCB Medical College in Cuttack and FMMedical College in Balasore are monitoring the three districts while local panchayat and urban local body functionaries identifying people who have recently returned from other states.Bhadrak district collector Gyana Das said all medicinestores located in blocks and urban limits of Basudevpur,Chandbali and Dhamnabar have been allowed to remain openduring the shutdown period.He said the Bhadrak administration has been focusing on Basudevpur block as the area has reported seven cases. The district administration in Jajpur has already prepared a list of people who had a recent travel history to other states, including WestBengal, district collector Ranjan Kumar Das said."We have already started putting people coming in contactwith COVID-19 patients in quarantine. Their samples will becollected today," he said. Balasore, close to the Bengal border, also remainedcompletely shut as the administration has deployed security forces in different parts of the district. (Eds: adds details) Bhubaneswar, Jul 10 () Odisha on Friday registered its highest single-day spike of 755 COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 11,956, while the death toll mounted to 56 with four more patients succumbing to the infectious disease, a health department official said. Detection of 755 more positive cases is a record in Odisha since the first case was detected in the state on March 15, the official said. While 508 of the new cases were reported from different quarantine centres, remaining 247 are local contacts. Contact tracing and follow-up action is underway, he said. In a statement, the department said, "Regret to inform the demise of 4 COVID positive patients while under treatment in hospital". Two other COVID patients died due to other causes. The number of COVID-19 positive patients succumbing to other diseases increased to 17, the official said The patients who died of non-COVID reasons were identified as a 57-year-old man belonging to Sundargarh district, who died due to lung cancer, and a 70-year-old man of Bhadrak district. He also died of cancer of the bladder, the official said. With this, the number of COVID-19 fatalities in Odisha mounted to 56 while the states hotspot Ganjam district accounted for 34 deaths, the official said. Ganjam was followed by Khurda (8), Cuttack (5) and one each from Angul, Bargarh, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Puri, Rayagada and Sundergarh districts. The new positive cases have been reported from 23 districts. Ganjam reported the highest 320 new cases followed by Jajpur (86), Sundergarh (62), Khurda (59) and Cuttack (55). Odisha's COVID-19 tally rises to 11,956, toll climbs to 56

Bhubaneswar, May 8 () As many as 26 people, who had recently returned from Surat, tested positive for COVID-19 in Odisha on Friday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 245, a health department official said.Of the fresh cases, 19 are from Ganjam, five fromKendrapara and two from Bhadrak districts."These people had come from Surat and were inquarantine centres. They were symptomatic," the official said.With these new patients, the number of cases in Ganjam has gone up to 47 since May 2, when the district had reported its first case, he said.The tally for Bhadrak now stands at 23, whileKendrapara has a total 8 cases, the official said.Migrant workers from Odisha, who were stranded in Gujarat's Surat city due to the lockdown, have been returning to the eastern state in droves by buses and trains after the Centre allowed their movement.Nearly three lakh Odia workers mostly from Ganjamdistrict are engaged in diamond cutting, textiles and otherworks in Surat.The state health department had on Thursday conducted 2,460 tests for coronavirus, he said.Odisha has so far tested 52,974 samples.With these new patients, the number of active casesnow stands at 181, while 62 patients have so far recovered from the disease.
