A budget offering from the brand, the TWS buds are tuned towards a set of users who are looking for options under a budget. Redmi emphasised that the product is developed keeping the younger generation in mind. But is it enough for the Buds 3 lite to create a name for itself in such a cluttered market? Especially, when competitors like OnePlus and Realme have their own offering to compete. I will try to put things in perspective with this review. Price &amp; Availability Redmi Buds 3 Lite is priced at ₹1,999 and will be available on company’s website and Amazon India. Design &amp; Build Redmi Buds 3 Lite have entered a competitive segment, where small details can make a big difference. The brand has played it safe here, with the design being as basic as possible. It’s not wrong necessarily but when you look at Realme Buds Q2s with a transparent lid, you feel there is room for some experimentation. <div type="image" title="Redmi Buds 3 Lite are portable and easy to carry" msid="93273695" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Redmi Buds 3 Lite are portable and easy to carry&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The Redmi 3 Buds with me are in black color and have an engraved Redmi branding on the case. The case, as I mentioned, is basic and there is nothing to rave about it. Sporting a plastic build, the finishing on the case is a bit slippery, and you might have to maintain a conscious grip around it if you are clumsy like me. The case also gets scratched if you keep it with your keys. Moving on, Redmi has struck well when it comes to the form factor of the case. It is compact and lightweight. It’s small enough to fit in your pocket along with other items, so full marks for portability. The case has a tiny LED up front for denoting charge once plugged in. On the bottom you will find a USB Type-C charging port. The buds follow the traditional dot design, which is compact and sits well in the ears. They also have a nylon hook, which is supposed to add a better grip. I personally don’t find them as useful, and unfortunately, the bundled hooks didn’t do the job for me either. The buds are IP54 splash resistant, which means they are supposed to hold well against sweat and minor splashes. As they did, since I didn’t face any problems with the buds during my workout. That being said, I doubt they will hold well against heavy rains, so a heads-up in case you don’t want any surprises. <div type="image" title="Redmi Buds 3 Lite has a snug fit" msid="93274185" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Redmi Buds 3 Lite has a snug fit&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> Connectivity and Gestures As it is expected, Redmi Buds 3 Lite don’t have a fancy application to pair them up with your devices. It’s a simple 3 tap process. You turn on the Bluetooth on the device, refresh the list and select the accessory. The buds show up on the Bluetooth range instantly, making the pairing process smooth. Once connected, there is a sound notifying the pairing. The buds can also be used individually, a feature I would like to see on all devices of this nature. The execution here gave me no reason to complain and I could use individual buds easily. These results were similar for both my Android phone and iPhone. Another point to note here is that Redmi Buds 3 Lite uses Bluetooth 5.2, which promises better connectivity and audio performance. <div type="image" title="Gesture support on Redmi Buds 3 Lite is choppy" msid="93274214" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Gesture support on Redmi Buds 3 Lite is choppy&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The gesture support on the buds is choppy. I have used both the OnePlus Nord Buds and Realme Buds Q2s and in order of ranking the gesture support the Redmi Buds 3 Lite is the weakest. This is disappointing given that there is no real variety in gestures either. A single tap plays and pauses the music, while a double tap is used on respective buds on either of the buds is used for answering calls. Then there is the classic, a long press for voice assistants. So far in my 3 days of usage, the buds have rarely responded to the gestures precisely. And it does get annoying after a while. I tried to figure out a crack for this, and as it turns out there are particular spots on the buds where one needs to tap for the gestures to work. Once clear, it was a smooth sail. However, for a generic consumer, this can be jargon and hinders the very convenience that a TWS unit promises to offer. I hope Redmi takes note of this since the hardware on Redmi devices doesn’t usually disappoint. The multi-device connectivity on the buds is also missing - a common miss on budget buds. Audio Performance Redmi Buds 3 Lite features 6mm Dynamic drivers, which deliver a decent audio performance. I have used the buds to listen to a variety of music, and made my observations accordingly. Starting with the good. The volume levels on the buds are fairly loud, and one can actually cut away from their surroundings thanks to the audio output. It has small drivers but they deliver decent thump and bass, sometimes better than Nord Buds and Realme Q2s. This opinion stays concrete for every genre I tested, from classic Kishore Kumar to recent tracks by Tyga. However, I do wish there was a way I could switch volume levels from the buds, but this feature is missing across the budget segment. Where the buds miss out is details. The loudness of the buds tends to take over audio details at times. This is noticeable with streaming both music and content. The recurring problem has been the audio output having an echo. It is not noticeable in songs with mellow beats, but gets more prominent with high-energy soundtracks, involving multiple instruments. That said, it does not spoil the experience to the point that you don’t enjoy your music. The range on the buds is also favorable, Redmi claims it has a 10-meter range and practically it’s close to the same. I could plug in my device at charge and listen to music without any issues. There is also a game mode on the buds, which gets activated once you press and hold both buds at the same time. I did two sessions of BGMI with its game mode. And there was no noticeable difference between the regular audio and dedicated game modes. Either way, the buds are a good comrade for gaming. I could figure out the direction of sound with the buds on. The calling experience on the buds was surprisingly decent and on par with Nord Buds. The audio quality was clear, and the microphone performed perfectly. However, I still find budget TWS buds lacking the microphone quality we see on high quality wired earphones. Case in point my regular wired Apple earpods. Buds 3 Lite promises 18 hour playback on single charge, with the case carrying 13 hours of charge on the go. The real-time performance is around 14 hours, give or take. It means a light user who use the buds on commute will have to plug them once in 3 days. A heavy user who takes them for gyming, commuting and casual streaming will have to plug them in within a day and a half of usage. These numbers shouldn’t be discouraging, though, they are in line with the portfolio of Budget TWS buds. The saving grace is the quick charge feature though, 10 minutes of plug-in time gives you about an hour of usage. Verdict Redmi Buds 3 Lite delivers on the expectations we set with a budget of TWS buds. Still, to put things in perspective, if you are confused between them, Realme Q2s and Nord Buds read the following. The Redmi Buds 3 Lite are for users who like classic TWS features and can adjust to the minimal aesthetic. You get a loud audio output which is mostly good and decent calling performance, plus Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity. In the case of Nord Buds and Realme Q2S, there is an aesthetic advantage and better gesture support. But the audio performance is at par and sometimes underwhelming compared to the Redmi Buds 3 Lite. For detailed opinion, here is my review for Nord Buds. As a reviewer, I can only be happy for the consumers since there are so many great options from credible brands at aggressive price points. Redmi Buds 3 Lite Review: Decent audio quality, choppy gesture support

This is the third Nord device we have seen in the last 10 months and it seems like the number is only going to increase from here. It doesn’t come as a surprise as the company has already shared its plan to go full frontal in the budget segment with the Nord series — It started with Nord, then a CE variant, and now a CE Lite. Not only that, we now have a budget TWS earbud under the Nord moniker. <div type="image" title="Nord CE 2 Lite 5G launched for ₹19,999" msid="91156323" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Nord CE 2 Lite 5G launched for &amp;#8377;19,999&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The Nord CE 2 launched in February and garnered decent feedback for its UI and battery specs in its segment. The CE 2 Lite promises to offer the same standard of experience at an even lower price. Does it live upto the OnePlus standards and can it make a mark in a segment mostly dominated by Xiaomi and Realme? I will try to answer that in my review. Price and Availability The OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite starts at ₹19,999 for the base variant that comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. You can get an upgraded 8GB of RAM by spending ₹21,999, with similar storage. You can buy the Nord CE 2 Lite from the Amazon India website or OnePlus’s own website. Design &amp; Build Quality This latest Nord is a fresh take on the classic OnePlus’ design. It has the shades of its elder sibling CE 2 but adds a more contemporary approach to it. Sporting a plastic build, the Nord CE 2 Lite makes it evident that it’s a budget phone and the signs of cost-cutting are obvious in this department. <div type="image" title="OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G&amp;#39;s Bahama Blue color" msid="91156394" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G&amp;#39;s Blue Tide color looks good&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The phone is thick and weighs 195 grams, and you can feel the weight while using it in one hand, which might be an issue with those with a small palm. The big 5000 mAh battery is sort of a reason, but I feel OnePlus could have done better with the weight distribution. On the back, there is a protruding camera bump, but we can’t complain about that anymore since it’s a common smartphone trait. Yes, it does wobble a bit when you put it on the table, however, slapping on the bundled case takes care of that issue. The unit with me is in a new Blue Tide color which has a tint of green in it as well. Looking different from the Bahama Blue on Nord CE 2, this color definitely stands out. The matte finish only adds to the appeal since it provides a better grip and is less prone to smudges. The rest of the design characteristics are closer to the Nord CE 2. For starters, just like the former, CE 2 Lite does not get an alert slider. I would have ranted about it, but here the absence can be passed as it comes at a low price point. We do get a headphone jack, which is a rare feature on phones these days. It’s responsive and unlocks the phone with a gentle tap. While modern phones have moved on to in-display fingerprint sensor, a lot of OEMs like Samsung and Realme are now shifting back to the side-mounted fingerprint sensor, which was first introduced by Sony. I personally prefer the in-display fingerprint sensor, but this one is also perfectly functional and performs very well. <div type="image" title="Side-mounted fingerprint sensor" msid="91156461" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The smartphone features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The volume rockers are on the left side, which is of good quality material and does the job well. The phone does feel robust, but an official IP rating adds psychological satisfaction to the consumer. Display - The ‘average’ of both worlds <div type="image" title="Nord CE 2 Lite features a 6.5-inch LCD display" msid="91156540" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Nord CE 2 Lite features a 6.5-inch LCD display&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite has followed suit with its counterparts and has an LCD screen. The latest Nord features a massive 6.5-inch punch-hole display with 2412x1080 pixels resolution. Being used to gorgeous displays on OnePlus devices including the Nord CE 2 with an AMOLED panel, the CE 2 Lite leaves you wanting for more. It doesn’t mean that it’s bad by any means, the colors look vibrant and the display manages to reproduce crisp images and retain details. Watching content on it is also satisfactory, however, you do miss out on deeper blacks, sharpness and vibrance of an AMOLED panel. You need to set it to max brightness in order to view the content on the screen under direct sunlight. I was using the auto-brightness initially, but it wasn’t adjusting the brightness as required. There is no adaptive refresh rate, but a user can simply switch between the standard 60Hz and 120Hz. During my testing the display was set to 120Hz, adding a zing to my experience. The smooth flowing animation and the responsiveness of the screen made the interaction wholesome. While OnePlus has tried to do justice to the user with the LCD panel, it is important to point out that Samsung did a better job on the Galaxy F23 5G. With similar specs, the LCD display on the Galaxy F23 5G is brighter and the adaptive refresh rate feature comes in handy when you switch between content, playing games or just scrolling through web pages. OnePlus combines the display with a single loudspeaker that delivers quality sound. It compliments the screen well while facing the same issue that every bottom-firing speaker does - your palm can block it in landscape orientation. But when it doesn't, the audio experience is satisfactory. UI - The USP Running on Android 12 out of the box, the latest Nord comes with Oxygen OS 12 skin. As clean as it can get, the CE 2 Lite’s OS is perhaps its strongest characteristic, especially for an affordable phone. There is practically no bloatware, except for OnePlus’ proprietary apps like community and the OnePlus store. OnePlus has introduced some new shortcuts for better productivity, like the ‘shelf’. A swipe on the top right brings down a tray that has all the essentials one needs. From data to weather and even app widgets. However, I would suggest keeping it classy and sticking to the stock skin. It’s subtle and easily understandable. You can do more aesthetic customizations on the phone like changing app icon styles and transitions. All of these make the experience intimate and you feel closer to the device. So far I have not come across any bugs that trouble me. But we have to note that this is a brand new unit, and the performance tends to go down eventually. OnePlus provides both fingerprint and face recognition on the CE 2 Lite. While the fingerprint sensor is snappy as I mentioned earlier in the piece, the face scanner struggles to unlock the device. And if you are wearing a mask, then there is no chance of it unlocking. Performance - Surprisingly fast Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G SoC the Nord CE 2 Lite, puts itself in a respectable space. Yes, its direct competitors like the Samsung Galaxy F23 come with the Snapdragon 750 5G chipset, but the performance in real-time is at par. The device with me packs in 8GB of RAM and delivers snappy performance. Boot-up speed is quick and you can expect the phone to start in a blink. Memory retention so far has been satisfactory, and the device usually boots up applications from the point where I left them. This includes heavy games like BGMI. This also brings us to the gaming performance on the phone. I played 3 action-packed rounds of BGMI on the CE 2 Lite and the experience was by far the best I have seen on a budget device. Running the game on HD settings, and high refresh rate there were minimal frame drops. The 120Hz refresh rate also adds to the experience. There is also a game mode on the phone that uplifts the experience. A simple swipe opens up a menu tray to look at the thermals, put the phone on silent mode and even record the screen. Yes, the phone does heat up while playing games, but it was only in the third round when I felt the heat. Yet, it is not unbearable, and in line with the output, you are getting. Before we move on to the battery performance it’s important to highlight the storage. The 128GB storage on my unit should be enough for most generic users. However, if you want more you can put in an SD card for upto 1TB capacity. Time to talk about battery life. Packing in a 5000 mAh cell, the Nord CE 2 lite, is a powerhouse. On a working day, the smartphone gave me a mileage of about 5 and a half hours and then some. This involved mostly calling casual social media, and occasional gaming. With the 35W SuperVOOC charger in the box, CE 2 Lite would charge from 0-100% in about 50 minutes. Clearly, the numbers are strong with this one. But, note the battery life mostly depends on your usage. Camera - The weak link The CE 2 Lite is a classic case of camera specs not translating to performance. I had some decent expectations from it, but I was thoroughly disappointed. The camera, while being quick in taking snaps, tends to fail at capturing natural colors. The video results are nothing to write home about, and the camera performs well only under well-lit conditions. The audio recording is also not of the best quality, but decent for the price. Then there is a 2MP depth sensor for those portrait shots. The edge detection is satisfactory and the portraits do come out well. OnePlus has followed a minimalistic approach to the CE 4 when it comes to design. The smartphone, as mentioned above, sports a glass sandwich design along with flat edges. Even though it carries a massive 5500mAh battery the weight distribution is commendable. It feels light in the hands and the edges make it easier to hold. I used the colour variant Celadon Marble, which appears to be inspired by the Marble Odyssey variant of the OnePlus 11. As one would expect, it is clean and has been executed really well. I am personally not a fan of funky colors but this one grew on me over time. Another feature that I personally like a lot is the IR blaster on the CE 4. Practically making your device a universal remote is very handy and I am glad more brands are bringing it back. It also gives me hope that maybe someday we will see the return of the headphone jack on devices as well. Towards the right edge, we have the volume rockers and the power button which are tactile. At the bottom, we have the Type-C port and the SIM card slot. The smartphone supports 2 nano SIMs or a nano SIM and a memory card up to 1TB. Overall, Nord CE 4 hasn’t taken any risks with its design and follows the classic OnePlus philosophy — minimalism and upgrades in areas that are important. Some people might dub the design boring, however, I believe there is a huge chunk of buyers who still look for a simple-looking device. Outdoor visibility was not a concern but the always-on screen's brightness proved inadequate, making it challenging to read text. Once engaged, the device performed admirably. The auto-brightness feature on the CE4 functioned remarkably well, consistently adjusting brightness levels. Viewing content on the 11R is a delightful experience. I indulged in a Netflix session with "X-men 97," and the smartphone's support for HDR10+ was evident in the vibrant colours and top-notch details. Nevertheless, the self-adjusting brightness in HDR content remains a slight annoyance, and I hope this aspect is addressed in future updates for a more consistent performance. The display is complemented by a robust stereo speaker setup, delivering surprisingly loud audio output capable of filling a small room. In terms of responsiveness, the display performs solidly. With a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz and an auto-switch feature between variable refresh rates, the execution, while occasionally choppy when transitioning between a web page and a game, remains overall satisfactory. Opting for the maximum 120Hz refresh rate provides a smooth and visually pleasing experience. The in-display fingerprint sensor on the CE 4 is adequately responsive, albeit not as swift as the side-mounted unit we see on the CE 3 Lite. As long as this remains the case, the amalgamation doesn't pose a concern for me. The software experience aligns with expectations for a OnePlus device — clean and visually appealing. As always, users have ample customisation options. I recommend an immediate tweak: changing the icon designs to pills instead of squares, providing a less blocky appearance to the display. The return of the shelf on the OnePlus CE4 is a feature I appreciate, having never encountered issues with it. Proper customization, with preferred applications like calendar, Gmail notifications, and Instagram, can enhance productivity. A simple right swipe allows quick access to these applications. The device also incorporates familiar OnePlus features such as Zen mode, which I find beneficial at the gym with a custom profile that silences all notifications except those I choose to keep on. For existing OnePlus users concerned about the OS experience, be assured that familiar elements are still present. However, we do have some additions this year from Oppos Color OS, like pixelation. This feature automatically blurs the display of people in screenshots to protect their identity. Although it may miss some instances when working automatically, you can manually blur objects. The option to do so directly from the screenshot menu is a welcome addition. I hope to see more of such features added to OnePlus devices down the line. One notable commitment from OnePlus is the promise of 2 years of major Android updates and 3 years of security updates for the CE 4. This is underwhelming, to say the least, considering Nothing Phone 2(a) provides 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of security updates. If you plan on being a long-term user of your smartphone, it's advisable to consider this aspect when making a decision. Performance Coming to the section which to me ensures why the Nord CE 4 is a top contender for most people - performance. The Nord CE 4 is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7S Gen 3 5G SoC, a tried and tested chipset. As expected, the smartphone delivers a consistent and reliable performance. This can be attributed to the overall package that OnePlus offers with this device. It comes with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM, which is more than enough for most users. There is also the option to expand the RAM internally by using spare storage, but I haven't found a use case where this would be necessary. Let's talk about performance, especially in power-hungry tasks like gaming. During my testing, I played BGMI on the Nord CE 4 daily for at least 2 hours. I had the settings maxed out with HDR graphics and solid frame rates, and so far, I haven't experienced any glitches or frame drops. The 6.7-inch massive display is excellent for gaming, allowing you to spot and eliminate your targets with ease. The combination of the high refresh rate and powerful SoC provides a smooth and fluid gaming experience. After about 50 minutes of continuous gaming, the phone does heat up, but it becomes noticeably uncomfortable only after the 1-hour mark. However, it cools down quickly, allowing you to get back to your games without much delay. This performance extends to everyday use, and general users will not encounter any issues. The specifications and real-life performance of the CE 4 may be overkill for basic users who don't push the limits or engage in heavy gaming. The device offers 256GB of internal storage, of which the system takes up around 25 GB. The remaining 225GB is more than sufficient for most consumers. I recommend buying the 256GB variant if you are a dynamic user since 128GB will just not be enough. Before concluding this section, it's important to mention the battery performance of the CE 4. It is equipped with a 5500mAh battery that is difficult to drain, especially for light users. The numbers are impressive. With casual to heavy usage, I was averaging around 7 hours of screen time. This includes gaming sessions, video calls, and YouTube consumption. For light users, the battery life extends even further, easily lasting a bit over a workday. The device supports 100W SuperVOOC charging, which works wonders as expected. With the bundled 100W charger, it takes about 30 minutes to charge the device from 0% to 100%, which is remarkably efficient. This is with mobile data turned on, of course. Camera OnePlus Nord CE 4 sports a dual camera set-up which is down from the triple camera set-up we saw on the CE 3. I am not complaining about it particularly because the one sensor that has been let go is the 2MP macro sensor, which I wasn’t a fan of. What we do get this time is an upgraded Sony IMX882 50MP primary sensor with OIS paired with an 8MP ultra-wide sensor. Let's start with the primary camera sensor. OnePlus claims that with the help of a new and improved sensor, the camera output is better on the Nord CE 4 compared to the Nord CE 3. This claim is true, in my opinion. In natural lighting or ample lighting, the image results are surprisingly good. The images are well-detailed, with colours mostly matching the subject in the frame. However, there were times when the phone did falter with reds, especially indoors and in artificial light. However, the smartphone bounces back in portrait photography, since the edge detection is solid here. And you can also play around with the depth effect there. The 8MP ultra-wide angle gives you a 120-degree field of view. So yes, it definitely expands the frame to cover more room. I shoot big cars sometimes with Business Insider India. However, the details might be lost if you shoot something indoors. The video recording experience is similar to Nord 2. The camera can record 4K videos at 30. And the performance is suitable for basic usage. However, it might not be the best option if you want to make content with your device. You get additional features like dual video mode as well, which is helpful if you are a vlogger. The audio recording is satisfactory, and the in-built microphone does cancel out external noise to a large extent. The front camera is a 16 MP shooter that tones down natural colours significantly, delivering under-saturated output. The results do get better with the default AI turned off. Yes, AI is big time here with what I call an AI makeover. You can change your skin tone and even tweak your cheeks. I mentioned it in my previous reviews, I don't particularly appreciate promoting this, but there could be a consumer base that wants this. Verdict OnePlus Nord CE 4 is a textbook smartphone. The device offers a fairly new design, a bright display, an efficient processor and an improved camera. It’s a smartphone for people who don’t want to experiment with their smartphone usage experience. That being said, if you are open to experiments then you can consider Nothing Phone(2A) or Realme 12 Pro as well. The design does add to the premium appeal and offers synergy of utility as well. However the plastic build does remind you that this is in fact not flagship. Usually with smartphones featuring curved displays, we tend to see a compromise in grip. However this isn’t the case with the Z7 Pro 5G. The details are crisp, the colours are natural, and the curved display enhances the overall viewing experience. However, as is common with curved screens, occasional mistouches are a minor inconvenience. Despite the excellent execution, it's difficult to avoid accidental touches and app openings or missing the volume slider in portrait mode. This is a minor trade-off in the grand scheme of things. The display also integrates the fingerprint scanner, which is an optical sensor. It takes a split-second pause before unlocking the device, but it consistently performs without any misses, which is commendable. Where the screen truly shines is in the viewing experience, especially when paired with the 120Hz refresh rate. Let's start with the refresh rate itself. A standard 120Hz refresh rate provides a smoother experience for gaming and reading content. The Z7 Pro 5G delivers this seamlessly, without any issues. You can choose between the standard 60Hz refresh rate and 120Hz, but I recommend sticking to the latter for optimal performance. While there may be a slight lag during the smart switch, the visual experience more than compensates for it. The bright panel with its color accuracy is a treat to watch. The smartphone also supports HDR 10 &amp; 10+, allowing you to enjoy HD content on OTT apps like Disney Plus Hotstar. As an example, I've been engrossed in watching Ashoka of the platform, and it happens to be a perfect show for evaluating the display quality. The varying colour tones, from bright outdoors to dark indoors, provide a diverse range for assessment. Fortunately, the Z7 Pro excels in these tests. The display never misses the mark, and the HDR performance is spot on. The blacks are truly deep, and the display exhibits minimal light leakage. iQOO has also not compromised on sound quality. The stereo speaker setup ensures loud audio output. Even at lower volume levels, the sound retains a good amount of detail. However, in super volume mode, some details may fade away. Before concluding, it's worth highlighting the in-display fingerprint sensor. This optical unit unlocks the device quickly and efficiently. However I found the Nord 3 sensor a bit faster. I have found the skin to be reliable in my experience before except for the bloatware. Yes we get a buffet of preinstalled apps on the smartphone, which can be discouraging initially. The apps however can be uninstalled which is a saving grace. However, OnePlus Nord 3 and Nothing Phone(2) are having an upper hand here with their bloat free experience. The iQOO Z7 Pro runs Android OS 13 with FunTouch UI 13, the experience of which is very familiar to me. The execution is much better here with the better processor and the latest Google OS. I want to start with the positives of the UI first. Primarily customization and accessibility. FunTouch OS provides some decent options for customizing the skin. We are talking about wallpapers, themes, and text fonts as well. If you like to give flavor to your device, then FunTouch OS has plenty of options. The UI was also very stable and bug-free, I have been using it for a week and have yet to find an issue. I was also greeted with familiar and my favorite add-ons on the FunTouch OS. Like the voice recorder app, which is very well-versed. You can increase the speed of recording and even edit audio here. Very helpful if you are a video producer like myself and do voice-overs. The widgets on FunTouch OS 13 are also useful; my favorite is the calendar. Mostly because of the blocky texts and bold fonts. The single-core performance is 1175 and the multi-core performance is 2525. This score is respectable when put against the Nord CE 3 Lite which scored 869 and 1920 respectively. The device offers 256GB of internal storage, of which the system takes up around 25GB. If you still need more storage, you can consider purchasing additional cloud storage since the Z7 Pro 5G does not support external SD cards. Before concluding this section, it's important to mention the battery performance of the iQOO Z7 Pro 5G. It is equipped with a 4600mAh battery that is difficult to drain, especially for light users. The numbers are impressive. With casual to heavy usage, I was averaging around 4 hours of screen time. This includes gaming sessions, video calls, and YouTube consumption.For light users, the battery life extends even further, easily lasting a bit over a workday. The device supports 66W of fast charging, which works wonders as expected. With the bundled 80W charger, it takes about 35 minutes to charge the device from 0% to 100%, which is remarkably efficient. This is with mobile data turned on, of course. Camera The iQOO Z7 Pro 5G features a dual camera module. The primary camera is a 64MP shooter paired together with a 2MP portrait sensor. The big sell on the camera is the OIS capability so let’s start talking about that first. Let's begin by focusing on the primary sensor, which consistently produces remarkable results. In well-lit conditions, the camera excels, preserving intricate details and vivid colors. The dynamic range is notably impressive, and the white balance is accurately maintained. It's worth mentioning that these outcomes were achieved while utilizing the natural color mode within the camera app. Disabling this option does reveal a noticeable contrast in the results. While the full-resolution HDR images might seem similar at first glance, a closer inspection reveals their superior level of detail, particularly when you attempt to crop them. The portrait shots presented here adhere to conventional standards, yet their quality remains commendable. The precision of edge detection is impeccable, and the ability to manage the bokeh effect is noteworthy. That being said I would have appreciated an ultra wide sensor here. When utilizing the dedicated night mode, the images appear largely consistent; nevertheless, there's a slight improvement in colors, particularly noticeable in the red tones. A marginal enhancement in sharpness is discernible, accompanied by a reduction in noise levels. When it comes to video recording, the iQOO Z7 Pro 5G surprises with its ability to capture 4K videos at 30FPS, accompanied by clear audio. Content creators will find the camera setup beneficial for their needs. The front-facing camera boasts a 16MP resolution and stands out as one of the more impressive sensors I've evaluated recently. Skin tones are faithfully captured, maintaining proximity to the natural source, while the resulting images showcase a satisfying level of clarity. Moreover, the video quality originating from the front camera is notably robust, making it suitable for vlogging purposes as well. Its ability to capture a wide frame proves advantageous for this content format. Verdict iQOO Z7 Pro 5G appears to be a viable option for buyers looking for a premium mid-ranger. It delivers performance in optics and brute output as well. However bloatware on the device does stand out like a sore thumb. So if you want a more refined software experience you can check out the OnePlus Nord CE 3 Lite or the Nothing Phone(2). The idea is similar, though; the 'T' variant of the device is usually a mid-year or, in this case, an annual upgrade to the flagship. The Nord 2T promises to improve upon the experience that the original Nord 2 delivered. On paper, it does show potential with a promising SoC, but does it translate to performance? Also, where does it stand against its counterparts from Realme and Xiaomi? I answer these questions in my comprehensive review after six days of usage. Price and Availability OnePlus Nord 2T is available in two variants — first, a base variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage starts at ₹28,999. Let me start with the returning alert slider. A fan favorite for a good reason, this practical hardware choice has been missing on the latest Nord series smartphones, namely Nord CE and Nord CE2 Lite. And yes, OnePlus did get some heavy flack for it. But, to me, it's not just the clean OS experience that makes a OnePlus device unique, but also little quirks like these. So, yes, it's here, and it works as effectively as it always did; there is no easier way for changing your ringtone profile. Moving to the actual design language for the device, the Nord 2T comes across as a fusion between the Nord 2 and OnePlus 9RT. It's the same form factor as the Nord 2, but the in-hand feel is premium like that of 9RT. The device feels heavier than the original Nord 2, but it's not bothering; it feels like a solid smartphone. I have big hands and did not face any issues using the device, even with single-handed use. However, users with small hands might have to use both hands more often than not. The variant with me is in the Gray Shadow color, a shade lighter than the hacker black we see on the 9RT. With a micro bidding texture, the finish on the back reminds us of the sandstone finish on the OnePlus 1. It's not glossy but has a texture that does not sustain smudges and is easy to clean. But unfortunately, the device has no official IP rating, just like the Nord 2. So yes, you have to be careful around water with this one. It can handle light splashes but don't get too risky with it. Like most other OnePlus devices, the Nord 2T also uses a familiar and bulky camera module. However, at least this time, they have it justified with three different sensors. Coming back, the camera bump is chunky, and I felt the corners occasionally coming in contact with my hand. However, this problem can resolve with the bundled TPU case. And a third-party case might get rid of it altogether. Other design elements are generic. For example, on the right side of the device, you will find the power lock and unlock button. In contrast, the left-hand side features the volume rockers. Both these physical installations feel tactile. Underneath, right next to the USB Type-C charging port, you will find the SIM card tray. Nord 2T is a dual SIM smartphone that supports two nano SIMs. Unfortunately, it lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is a tradeoff for some, but not surprising. The original Nord 2 didn't have one either. Ironically, it is present on the CE 2 and CE 2 lite. Overall, the Nord 2T is the best-looking Nord so far for me. The color scheme combined with the in-hand feel completes its arch. Display OnePlus Nord 2T essentially uses the same display we saw on the Nord 2. It's a 6.43-inch FHD+ AMOLED punch-hole display with an 1800 x 2400 pixels resolution. Having used the Nord 2 extensively, I can say it's partially true. The Nord 2 T's 6.43-inch panel is the correct size to watch your TV shows and movies. The screen retains essential details, with the image reproduction being fairly accurate at most times. The black levels are satisfactory, and I have not noticed anything completely off so far. For reference, I watched The Boys Season 3 on the Nord 2T, a show with an equal amount of well-lit and dark frames. With HDR 10+ support, the picture quality only improves, and with most OTT apps supporting HDR10+ content, it is a visual treat. Heads up, though, turn off auto-brightness while watching content on the Nord 2T. In my experience, auto-brightness usually hampers the experience while watching something. Also, try not to use the device while lying down; it's heavy. And as it has happened with me, it does hurt when it falls on your face. The peak brightness on display is 600 nits, making it easier to look at it under direct sunlight. So, no struggle there. You also get the always-on display option on the Nord 2T, which is extremely useful but does cost you some battery life. I highlight that in the battery experience section. Moving on, the experience is favorable but nothing that helps us differentiate this screen from the one on Nord 2. The difference starts to show up when you interact with the panel. This aspect has got to do with the revised MediaTek Dimensity chipset onboard. While Nord 2 never missed a beat regarding interaction, it did have some sloppy edges. 2T eliminates those. The experience so far has been wholesome, with the panel not missing out on a single command. Swipe, gestures, tap, or pinch- I am yet to observe any glitch or a miss. This experience is also translated to gaming. The 90Hz refresh rate, while being a bit outclassed given the 120Hz panels we see on mid-rangers these days, holds up well. The motion switches to the axis, and reflexes are quick in action and reaction. The graphics are fluid, and the screen does justice to the game visually. Unfortunately, there is no adaptive refresh rate feature on 2T, which I especially missed while switching between social media and casual web surfing. You can either set it up on the standard 60Hz refresh rate or take it up a notch with 90Hz. I suggest sticking with the higher refresh rate for a more fluid experience. We also get an in-display sensor on the Nord 2T, unlocking the phone in a snap. But, you do have to exert some amount of pressure on it. A light tap mostly doesn't do the job. An observation I have made with every Nord device since last year. Complimenting the display is a dual speaker set-up on the Nord 2T 5G. Amply loud, it does add a flair to your viewing experience, and you can skip on pairing your earphones with this one. While the Oxygen OS experience is as clean as possible, I am still not a big fan of the app icon designs and animations we see on 12.1. I, for one, miss the older circular app icon designs; they looked cleaner to my eyes. While the boxy app icons can be shrunk, they still give a cluttered feel. This is a subjective issue; that being said, it does not hamper the user experience in day-to-day usage. Aesthetically, we get back OnePlus's signature features. The smartphone lets you tweak themes, colors, font styles, wallpapers, and even fingerprint animation. I usually like to go around with the stock experience that a manufacturer has curated for the consumer, and with that, I was satisfied. But if you want personalizations, you can go to town with this one. Another hot topic of debate with newer OnePlus devices is the shelf that comes down with a swipe on the top right. This UI feature has received mixed reactions. As mentioned in my Nord CE 2 Lite review, it also takes some time to adjust, but from there, it's a smooth sail. It is a better version of the drop-down menu we are accustomed to, with added prompts like a step counter and even widgets for emails. With most manufacturers promising future updates, OnePlus has also sailed the same boat. As a result, the Nord 2T will be getting Android updates for the next two years, making it a safe investment for most general users. Performance The OnePlus Nord 2T is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 1300 5G processor. An upgrade from the Dimensity 1200 we saw on the Nord 2, the new SoC packs a punch. The device with me packs in 12GB of RAM, which can be expanded by an additional 7GB with RAM extension. Simply put, you can use the device's internal storage as RAM to hold on to heavier apps requiring faster computing. Case in points - games. However, in my five days of usage, I have yet to experience the need for more RAM. The 12GB base RAM is sufficient for handling multiple applications, mainly social media and light games like temple run. In my experience, apps like Instagram have stayed put for upto a day without any frame drops or a lag. However, the situation is not similar for heavier apps like BGMI, which might shut down more often than not after a while. Touching upon gaming performance, I made Nord 2T my primary gaming device for this week. The games in question were - BGMI and Asphalt 9. Starting with BGMI- playing the game on UHD settings, the performance was at par and, in some places, better than the original Nord 2. The game was set on a high frame rate, and the rendering wasn't choppy. I did not notice any stutter or ugly frame drops in these settings. After about 40 minutes of continuous gaming, the phone did start to warm up, but not to the point that it hampers your experience. I switched to Asphalt 9 afterward, and the performance was linear and at par with what I observed in BGMI. The internal storage on my review variant is 256GB, which should be sufficient for a heavy user. However, a light user can opt for 128GB. The battery situation on the Nord 2T is where things get complex. The smartphone comes with a 4500mAh battery, which supports 80W SuperVooc charging. OnePlus claims that we can charge from 1-70% in 15 minutes, while the 1-100% mark is reached in 27 minutes. The charging time is close to the claims. In my experience, the 1-70% mark was reached in 18 minutes, while the 100% mark took 35 minutes. This is with mobile data turned on and an active internet connection. Yes, these numbers are great, and according to OnePlus, they have the charging safety certified, ensuring the experience is not spoiled. There is also an option for optimized charging, which, after 79%, slows down the charging speed significantly. What I appreciate about it is the fact that we can turn it off voluntarily if we want the phone to charge faster at a particular time. However, the phone tends to lose battery as fast as it gains. In my personal experience so far, on a heavy day of usage, I was plugging the device in the evening every day. This involved games, emails, and streaming content along with calling. On a light day of usage, which skipped on gaming, I was plugging in the device at night. However, if you are using it primarily for social media and not demanding any high intense tasks from it, it should easily last a day. Another observation I made was that the phone loses power rapidly when sitting. This is more prominent with the always-on display, with the phone losing 4% of its charge within 25 minutes. However, the speed of this deduction significantly slows down when the phone goes below 80%. By saying this, I won't suggest you turn off the always-on display since that's an essential utility. But consider this a heads up. Camera OnePlus is playing big props on the camera of the Nord 2T. The smartphone comes with a triple camera set-up. The primary camera is a 50MP Sony IMX 766 sensor, which we saw on the previous Nord 2 and the 10R. The 8MP ultra-wide angle gives you a 120-degree field of view. So yes, it definitely expands the frame to cover more room. I mentioned it in my previous reviews, I don't particularly appreciate promoting this, but there is a consumer out there who wants this all. Verdict The Nord 2T, while being the 3rd Nord device in the last six months, stands its ground. Unlike its siblings, the CE2 and CE2 Lite, the Nord 2T brings back the original idea behind the Nord moniker. In addition, it is bringing in fan-favorite features at a more affordable price point. I recommend this to people who want a solid 360-degree experience and standardized OnePlus deliverables for which the brand is famous: clean UI, decent cameras, fast battery charging, and stable performance. However, if you want to experiment, I recommend the Xiaomi 11X and Realme GT Neo 3. Both the devices are different from the Nord 2T in terms of placement and can be a more exciting option for consumers.
