Muhurat trading on the auspicious Diwali is believed to bring in profits as it coincides with prayers to Laxmi, the goddess of wealth. A lot of traders are of the opinion that trading for the hour will bring them good luck. Business Insider India has curated a list of stocks that show potential in the long-term to buy for the muhurat. Reliance Industries In the last few years, RIL has ventured successfully into new businesses like retail and telecom. Moreover, the company itself claims that it plans to spin off these businesses into separate entities. And, the buzz of a Jio IPO is gaining steam which could land shareholders with a windfall. Its plan to turn cash positive will also provide it with a valuation upside. “We believe that the Aramco deal and end of capex cycle will make the company FCF positive. The recent corporate tax rate cut will also have positive bearing. We have valued the stock at a consensus with potential upside,” says Karvy Investment Strategy report. Hindustan Unilever One of India’s largest FMCG companies HUL is well placed to ride the slowdown in the market. In spite of slashing prices and pressure to advertise more, Karvy brokers believes that it has the pricing power due to its premiumization strategy. Going ahead, it can give investors a 16% upside and its performance has been consistent. In the last ten years, the company has been expanding its margins by offering premium products that allow them the power of pricing. In the next one year, the company is expected to expand its margins from the current 23% to a healthy 25% by FY21. Larsen &amp; Toubro As the domestic business landed a slowdown, India’s largest infrastructure player Larsen &amp; Toubro quickly diversified its portfolio. This strategy has worked for it as its order flow at the end of June stood at a robust ₹2,940 billion. The order flow momentum grew by around 11% year on year and the only risks it faces is in its execution. It also has a five year plan Lakshya to double its sales to ₹2 trillion by FY21. “L&amp;T’s diversified exposure to various sectors/ geographies coupled with its excellent execution capabilities and its balance sheet strength has resulted in strong order book build up. The consensus values the company at 22 times for a target price of ₹1,900,” said Karvy. HDFC Bank HDFC Bank is one of the few banks which showed shown resilience as crisis expands in the sector. Its consistent performance makes it a relative outperformer in the sector. Added to that, the stock is currently trading at around 4% of its expected value for the next fiscal. Its spreads or basically margins will see no volatility in the coming months as it holds power to price in the wholesale lending market. “Despite the NBFC industry facing challenges, we expect the relative outperformance of HDFC will help it to sustain premium valuations. We value HDFC at consensus of 4.3 times,” said Karvy. Zee Entertainment Even as the Essel group is facing liquidity crisis, the core TV business of the company is performing well. Added to that, its digital business is also growing fast with a strong use base of 76.4 million. Its subscription revenue also grew by over 5% till last year. It is also launching 72 more original digital shows which will garner more eyeballs, putting the company in the high growth sphere. Karvy is confident that it will maintain 30% profit margin in the next two years.

Mumbai, The Indian equity market surged on Monday morning with the BSE <keyword id="6484188" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="sensex">Sensex</keyword> crossing the 52,000 mark for the first time ever. Around 9.56 a.m., Sensex was trading at 52,053.80, higher by 509.50 points or 0.99 per cent from its previous close of 51,544.30. It opened at 51,907.75 and has so far touched an intra-day high of 52,110.74 and a low of 51,886.46 points. The Nifty50 on the <keyword id="53581" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NATIONAL-STOCK-EXCHANGE">National Stock Exchange</keyword> was trading at 15,294.95, higher by 131.65 points or 0.87 per cent from its previous close. The rise in the Indian indices came on the back of positive global cues. Healthy buying in the banking, finance and telecom stocks also supported the market. Manish Hathiramani, technical analyst with Deen Dayal Investments: "The Nifty has opened the week with a gap up and is headed to its next target of 15,500. We have a good support for the index at 15,100 and until that does not break on a closing basis, we can buy on dips or intra-day corrections. Traders are advised to maintain stops and book profits at regular intervals." The top gainers on the Sensex were <keyword id="46717" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IndusInd-Bank">IndusInd Bank</keyword>, <keyword id="6354287" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="bharti-airtel">Bharti Airtel</keyword> and <keyword id="6355975" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="axis-bank">Axis Bank</keyword>, while ONGC, <keyword id="6357147" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-steel">Tata Steel</keyword> and <keyword id="45224" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mahindra">Mahindra</keyword> &amp; Mahindra were the major losers. Sensex breaches 52,000 mark for the first time, Nifty at record high — banks lead gains

GUNDLACH: My favorite stock market is on fire

India got a surprise interest rate cut overnight and investors are enjoying it: Stocks are up 2.5% as of 8:30 a.m.
Inflation is down to just 5% in India, and that's given the central bank the confidence to cut rates. That figure sounds pretty high by the standards of developed economies, but it's down from 7.5% at the start of 2014 and over 10% for much of 2013.
Raghuram Rajan, governor of the Reserve Bank of India announced a cut in the main interest rate from 8% to 7.75%, the first cut in more than a year and a half.

The jump in equities today is adding to the general surge that's been seen in India over the last 12 months: the Sensex stock index is up by more than 8,000 points, a 42% climb, making it one of the best-performing in the world. A lot of that rise came in Spring, when right-wing reformer Narendra Modi was elected as Prime Minister in a landslide victory.
Morgan Stanley's Chetan Ahya thinks this isn't the last of rate cuts from the Reserve Bank of India. In a note emailed out earlier, he said: "We believe that this is a beginning of a big rate cut cycle. We expect a further 125 bps (1.25 percentage points) over the next 12 months, cumulative 150bps in this cycle". 
If he's right, that would bring interest rates to just 6.5%, the lowest for several years in India, and would probably give the Sensex more joy along the way.
