India continues to top the list of countries with high increments. China is projected to see an increase of 6%, followed by Hong Kong and Singapore at 4% in 2023. And, 44% are concerned about employee satisfaction as the voluntary attrition rate is the second highest in India among APAC countries. As many as 42% of companies cited strong revenue generation projection in the next 12 months as the reason. The survey is based on 22,570 sets of responses from companies across 168 countries. For this, more than half of the Indian companies are increasing their salary budgets from last year given the tight labour market conditions. “2022 saw actual salary increments being higher than budgets and this was largely due to better-than-expected business performance and the need to retain talent. If a mall has a vacancy of more than 40%, it’s defined as a ‘ghost mall’. The highest number of ghost malls are in Delhi NCR , followed by Pune and Hyderabad. Lack of due diligence, mall shortcomings such as size and ownership patterns, design issues, faulty layouts with dark alleys, lack of customer walk flow management, low occupancy and lack of anchor tenants — have all contributed to the creation of these ghost malls. “All attempts to breathe life into these assets and attract a good retailer mix and footfalls have been unsuccessful. As a result, the revenue generation potential of such malls is far below the expected threshold,” the report said. In some cases, termination notices have been served to shut down a few large format stores which comprised an entire mall. Discontinuation of operations, demolition of shops inside the mall premises and auctioning of the mall property due to non payment of dues to the local mall authority are also underway, said the Knight Frank report. The report also has a few suggestions for utilising these ghost malls. “The vacant spaces of ghost malls can be used for thrift stores, food and clothing banks, exhibition, presentation and event spaces. <keyword id="153014" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="daycare" source="Orion">Daycare</keyword>, elder care, pet care and even elementary and secondary schools can be opened. Workforce training centres and human development centres for government services can also spring up in ghost malls,” said <keyword id="1417134" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="shishir-baijal" source="Orion">Shishir Baijal</keyword>, chairman and MD of Knight Frank India at the unveiling of the report. Leasing out empty spaces for long-term commercial use to local businesses that cannot afford high rents in prime office business parks or popular business districts can also be done, the report suggested. Demolition of the existing structure and sale of land to minimise the losses was another suggestion that was put forth. Malls witnessing growth despite rise of e-commerce The report also stated that excluding the ghost malls, the overall mall health has improved post pandemic. There were 255 malls in 2018 but it has risen to 271 now — adding over 15 million sq feet. Despite the rise of e-commerce, India’s physical stores still account for 95% of retail business, the report claimed. The retail industry will continue to account for 10% of India's GDP for the next five financial years. The organised retail sales grew at a CAGR of 24% between FY 2017- 22. The organised retail sector in India, despite taking a hit during the pandemic, is still growing. Post Covid, the recovery in operational metrics of malls has been healthy, with consumption in January-June 2022 growing 20-25% from the same period in FY2020, the report said. “With this large-scale pent-up demand, shopping centre development has seen a new rigour after being at a standstill for almost 2 years. In the next 12 months, we expect an addition of 8-9 mn sq ft of mall space.This is not just limited to the tier 1 markets. Tier 2 and 3 cities are also ready to support mid to large scale mall developments,” Rajneesh Mahajan, CEO of Inorbit Malls said. As per <keyword id="913436" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="knight-frank-research" source="Orion">Knight Frank Research</keyword>, organised retail sales volume is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 17%, from $52 billion in FY22 to $136 billion by FY28. Under the quota, 70 per cent seats in medical colleges were reserved for students in their districts. The number of medical colleges in the state's Marathwada and Vidarbha regions are less compared to other areas. Hence, students from these regions suffered during admissions in medical colleges. Maharashtra government scraps 70:30 region wise formula for admissions in medical courses

Bryan lives in his own home, does his own grocery shopping, cooks for himself, and loves spending time in his garden.I recently asked him what he believes the key to a long and healthy life is, hoping for some tips so that I can be just like him at 95. I thought maybe he'd say he had never smoked a cigarette or enjoyed a beer in his life, or perhaps that he <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/guides/health/diet-nutrition/vegan-diet">ate a vegan diet</a>. But his answer surprised me.Bryan told me he didn't live by the rules. He created his own way of living and had a life full of excitement. People often got by on what was cheap and accessible. He says throughout his life, he probably ate red meat twice a week on average. The rest of the time, it was fish, poultry, and plenty of veggies. His secret vice is dark chocolate.The only thing Bryan is regimented about is starting each day with a black coffee and a teaspoon of honey from a local honey farm.<h2>He didn't eat or drink in excess</h2>Bryan has never been a huge eater, and because of that and regular exercise, he said that he's never had a problem with his weight.Before he retired, he would enjoy an ale or two socially with friends on a Friday night, but he only ever <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/light-alcohol-consumption-may-reduce-risk-of-heart-attacks-study-2023-6">drank in moderation</a>. "I walked where I could, and I only drove where I needed to."<h2>He volunteered regularly</h2>Bryan's father was involved with the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS), a not-for-profit organization that provides emergency and primary healthcare services for people living in rural, remote, and regional areas of Australia.As a boy in the 1930s, Bryan would help out by pedaling the pedal-powered radio, so they could communicate with pilots in the sky. When Bryan was in his 30s, he voluntarily maintained a dirt airstrip for the RFDS and helped clean and refuel their airplanes.Bryan also <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/how-giving-back-can-benefit-you-2018-11">did volunteer work</a> for local high schools, while his late wife Mary helped out at the Australian Red Cross."We enjoyed doing what we could for other people," Bryan said.<h2>He curated connections with friends</h2>Bryan is a people person. He's made a habit of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/age-gap-best-friend-elderly-man-benefits-2023-11">nurturing his relationships</a>."I have a beautiful big book I've had since Mary and I got married," he said. "It's full of names, phone numbers, birthdays, and other milestones of everybody I've known since the year dot."I look at that every day. He said it was a wonderful way to meet new people, socialize, and have fun.<h2>He kept his mind active</h2>Bryan said he was never a brilliant scholar, but he grew his understanding of the world in other ways. When he was younger, he made a decision to only ever spend a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/life-lessons-best-friend-age-gap-young-at-heart-2023-12">few years in a job</a>, and as a result, his general knowledge is extraordinary."I did not want to be a specialist in one particular subject with my mind or my hands," he said. "I wanted to experience everything in life because it exercised my brain. My brain is very versatile in a lot of things, rather than one singular thing."At 95, Bryan still loves learning. He's an avid reader and enjoys writing.<h2>He stayed positive</h2>Like everybody, Bryan has faced challenges. His mother left when he was two, and he never saw her again. He's had to cope with the death of his sister, wife, and son.But by maintaining a positive attitude, he's proved to be extremely resilient. "Bad things will pass," he said. "You eventually make peace with them."On the very rare occasion that Bryan is having a bad day, he simply closes his eyes and travels back to the memories of a life well lived. That keeps him going.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>US Army Special Operations Command held its Best Combat Diver Competition in September.</li></ul>US special operators are the best in the world, and they need to stay in top form amid <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/russian-chinese-pilots-want-batting-practice-against-us-generals-say-2023-10" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rising tensions around the world</a> and increasing competition with Russia and China.In September, US commandos showed off their skills during the US Army Special Operations Command Best Combat Diver Competition — and Army Special Forces divers flexed their little-known underwater muscles to triumph over their Navy brethren.Over three days at Naval Air Station Key West, 13 two-man teams from across the Army and Navy special-operations communities competed in 10 combat-diving events for the prize of being named the best combat dive team in the US special-operations community.The events included physical and academic tests, parachute jumps over water, underwater navigation, and helicopter insertions.<div type="image" title="Army Special Operations Best Combat Diver Chinook" height="749" width="1000" msid="105151211" hostid="261" sizebytes="125032"></div>The competition was close, but when the dust settled Green Berets <a href="https://taskandpurpose.com/news/special-forces-2023-best-combat-diver-competition/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">won the day</a>, taking the first three spots, with a team from 5th Special Forces Group in first place, a 2nd Special Warfare Training Group team in second, and a 5th Special Forces Group team placing third.Fourth place went to a team of <a href="https://www.19fortyfive.com/2023/08/underwater-navy-seals-a-deadly-weapon-in-any-maritime-conflict/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Navy SEALs</a> from SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team One."I'm really proud of the organization for going above and beyond. I'm equally proud of the competitors," Maj. Brandon Schwartz, commander of the Special Forces Underwater Operations School, <a href="https://www.army.mil/article/270372/green_berets_win_competition_as_best_combat_divers_across_special_operations" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a release. "The standings were separated by a few points, so it speaks to how interoperable and capable SEAL and Green Beret divers are."A Green Beret from the second-place team said the competition was important for increasing interoperability. "We were having good conversations with SEALs," the operator said. I love doing this but competing to bring something back to the team and the regiment, the capabilities is the best thing — the unilateral work between the SEALs and different [special-operations forces] units is bar none," the operator added.The competition showed the skill of the Army's Green Berets and "the dedication" of their <a href="https://www.sandboxx.us/news/the-ultimate-test-of-special-forces-nerves/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">combat divers</a>, an Army Special Forces noncommissioned officer serving in a National Guard unit told Insider."This is some <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/combat-diver-school-is-us-army-special-forces-toughest-course-2022-5" target="_top">hard shit</a>, and people don't sign up to be Green Berets with combat diving in mind. It's [an] added layer of challenge that only a few guys decide to pursue once they have finished with selection and the Q course," the Green Beret said, referring to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/us-developed-version-of-special-forces-q-course-for-ukrainians-2023-1" target="_top">the Special Forces Qualifications Course</a>."I know many tough operators who don't try for a dive team because they are afraid to fail," the Green Beret said, speaking anonymously because they weren't authorized to talk to the media.<h2>Combat diving revival</h2><div type="image" title="Army Special Operations Best Combat Diver" height="1333" width="2000" msid="105151214" hostid="261" sizebytes="85600"></div>Like other special-operations forces, combat divers can have <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/attacks-behind-russian-lines-suggest-ukrainian-troops-using-us-training-2022-8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">outsize impact on the battlefield</a>."Combat Divers create an enormous challenge for adversary planning by forcing them to plan and implement countermeasures for a wide variety of scenarios over an impossibly large geographic area," Lino Miani, a former Special Forces officer, told Insider."The Combat Dive capability [also] allows us to build or enhance similar capabilities in partner forces, vastly expanding available options even if US forces aren't directly available for Combat Dive operations," added Miani, who is president of the Combat Diver Foundation, a nonprofit public charity dedicated to the combat-diver community and a sponsor of the 2023 Best Combat Diver Competition.<div type="image" title="Army special operations forces combat diver" height="1381" width="2000" msid="105151215" hostid="261" sizebytes="120566"></div>US strategy for countering China hinges on partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region, and special-operations forces are a key component of the US military's relationships with those countries.Despite their value, not all special-operations forces have the same influence. The US special-operations combat-diver community in particular has had ups and downs recently. Two decades of land warfare in the Middle East did little to endear it to military leaders and policymakers.With the attention of leadership focused on counterterrorism and counterinsurgency campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan, the combat-diver capability was left to <a href="https://sofrep.com/news/exclusive-the-perilous-state-of-the-special-forces-combat-diver-capability/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">atrophy</a>, leading to problems with faulty equipment and insufficient training. The Army Special Forces dive teams suffered the most.Every Special Forces Group — there are five active duty and two National Guard — has about 72 operational teams specializing in different infiltration methods, including mountain warfare, mobility operations, and military free-fall parachuting.
