In an exclusive interaction with ANI Skoda Auto Brand Director Petr Janeba says Skoda's European bestseller, the Enyaq EV, was initially slated for an Indian debut this year but postponed to next year for an updated version.<br /><br />Janeba says a significant facelift planned for the model in March has led the company to hold off until the new version, featuring Skoda's latest design language, is ready.<br /><br />He said, "We have one of the best-selling EVs in Europe our European Enyaq. The car was tested, and the car was prepared for India. We have actually stopped bringing the car this year. Because there will be a huge facelift of the Skoda Enyaq coming in March following the new design language."<br /><br />He added, "We actually can choose one of the three EV cars coming to India or all three."<br /><br />Skoda is closely monitoring India's changing EV policies, especially the CAFE3 (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) norms set to be introduced in April 2027. On further investment in India Janeba highlighted the importance of a consistent regulatory environment, as state-level EV and hybrid tax policies currently vary widely, impacting long-term planning.<br /><br />"And within this plan, we understand nobody can survive in India without having a deeper localised CKD EV in India. We are ready for this. We are ready in Pune to make another investment for the car and for the production to get it. At the end of the day, we still take our time in order to decide the right measure car for the market, seeing the new competitors coming on the EVs." Said Janeba<br /><br />Skoda already has two manufacturing units in India, in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and Pune. EVs are planned to be manufactured in their Pune plant<br /><br />For the production, he stated, "In the same factory in Pune, Chakan we will be producing EVs. Currently we have increased because of the Kylaq the production capacity in Pune to 250,000 units a year and we will be increasing further once it is needed either for the current cars because of the export or because of the Indian demand or for the new cars like EVs."<br /><br />The facility is also set to support EV production with deep localisation efforts to make Skoda's electric lineup more affordable for Indian consumers.<br /><br />Piyush Arora, India CEO, Skoda Auto echoed this sentiment, expressing confidence that Skoda's expanded product offerings will capture the growing sub-four-meter SUV segment, a category that represents nearly 30 per cent of India's automotive market.<br /><br />"With the new Kodiaq and other upcoming models, we are aiming for a 5 per cent market share in the medium term," he added.<br /><br />Skoda's commitment to India extends beyond manufacturing. According to a new study, being more active could be the key to unlocking a longer, healthier life — especially for those over 40.<br /><h3 style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:14pt;margin-bottom:4pt;">5 extra years, just by moving more</h3>The study revealed that if everyone in the U.S. were as active as the top 25% of the population, individuals over 40 could add five years to their lives. Think of it as trading one Netflix binge for a half-day extension on your lifespan!<br /><h3 style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:14pt;margin-bottom:4pt;">The biggest gains for the least active</h3>Lead researcher Professor Lennert Veerman highlighted the potential for the least active group: “If the least active quartile of the population over age 40 were to increase their activity level to that of the most active quartile, they might live, on average, about 11 years longer,” he said.<br /><br />Here’s the best part — it’s doable. The most active group isn’t climbing mountains or running marathons. Their activity level is equivalent to just under three hours of walking per day, proving that even moderate movement can pay off big.<br /><br />Low levels of physical activity could be as damaging as smoking, the researchers suggested. Just as each cigarette can shave off 11 minutes of life, inactivity has its toll. Conversely, moving more acts as a shield, helping prevent heart disease, stroke, certain cancers, and other chronic conditions.<br /><h3 style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:14pt;margin-bottom:4pt;">Revolusionising health recommendations</h3>The study’s findings indicate a need to revisit national guidelines on physical activity. Dr. Veerman emphasised how underestimated physical movement has been: “If there's something you could do to more than halve your risk of death, physical activity is enormously powerful,” he said.<br /><br />He also stressed the importance of creating environments that encourage movement: walkable neighbourhoods, affordable public transport, and spaces for cycling could benefit individuals and society alike by boosting health outcomes and reducing strain on healthcare systems.<br /><br />Medical boards such as the WHO and the ICMR advise adults to engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity per week, alongside muscle-strengthening exercises twice a week. Children and teens should aim for 60 minutes of daily physical activity, including muscle and bone-strengthening activities three times a week.<br /><br />Older adults are encouraged to follow similar guidelines with added focus on balance and flexibility exercises to prevent falls. The government promotes physical activity through initiatives like the <keyword id="20284979" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Fit-India-Movement" source="keywords">Fit India Movement</keyword>, though experts emphasise the need for better access to parks, sidewalks, and fitness programs to make exercise more achievable for all.<br /><br />Don’t worry — you don’t need to leap into intense workouts. The sources have also said that top ICC officials are trying to get Pakistan stop making any statements against India. <br /><br />There are discussions going on with the host Pakistan and other participating teams of the Champions Trophy next year about the schedule and it is likely to be out in a couple of days or so, the sources added. <br /><br />India, the 2017 finalists, will not be playing their matches in Pakistan and their matches will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), said the source. <br /><br />PCB wrote to the International Cricket Council (ICC) seeking reasons behind India's refusal to travel to Pakistan to play the ICC Champions Trophy next year, Geo News reported.<br /><br />India conveyed its stance of not travelling to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy, citing 'security concerns'.<br /><br />Speaking at a press interaction at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium, Naqvi said that PCB is still waiting for a reply from ICC. He also asked not to mix sports and politics."We have sent them [ICC] the questions we had. We are still waiting for their response. I believe that sports and politics are separate and no country should mix the two. Even now I still have positive expectations about the Champions Trophy," Naqvi was quoted by ESPNcricinfo as saying.<br /><br />He added that all the countries who qualified for the Champions Trophy 2025 are ready to visit Pakistan except India."At this moment, every team that has qualified for the Champions Trophy is ready to come. Nobody has any issues. I will say today also, if India has any concerns, speak to us about them, we can ease those concerns. I don't think there is any reason for them not to visit," he added.<br /><br />Earlier in the month, ICC conveyed to the PCB in writing that India would not travel to Pakistan to participate in the Champions Trophy, which will be held in early 2025.PCB consulted with the Pakistan government on the issue and is looking to present its stance.<br /><br />The Pakistan board wants India to travel to Pakistan as their team also went during the time of the ICC Men's ODI World Cup in 2023.
