New Delhi: <keyword id="21530712" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ola-Founder-Bhavish-Aggarwal" source="keywords">Ola Founder Bhavish Aggarwal</keyword> is placing bold bets on new-age technologies with a view for <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword> to be at the forefront of the current global <keyword id="22912054" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tech-transition" source="keywords">tech transition</keyword> led by AI, and build <keyword id="22912488" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jobs-of-the-future" source="keywords">jobs of the future</keyword> in the country. In an interaction with PTI editors at the agency's headquarters here, he said the private sector has to do the bulk of job creation, step up and do more, while creating an enabling environment and correcting imbalances, such as that of trade, are the responsibility of the government. Aggarwal also supported the government's move to offer fiscal incentives to global EV makers, including Tesla, through the new EV policy saying it is important for India to attract all kinds of investment, and globally established players will help in the development of the EV ecosystem in the country. The group's newly-listed entity <keyword id="19945904" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Ola" meta.hostid="83" meta.entityid="Ola">Ola</keyword> Electric aims to make India a global electric vehicle (EV) hub but the country has to invent an EV and energy transition paradigm for itself based on its needs as the world cannot achieve a sustainable future without India, he added. "There is a global technology transition happening and AI is a very important technology of the future, and we in India need to lead this journey. If you look at the current state, I think we are still adopters of somebody else's technology paradigms, especially in the digital world," Aggarwal said, explaining why the Ola group had set up AI start-up Krutrim last year. One of the things in Krutrim is to build AI models on Indian data, which is more attuned to Indian use cases, Indian paradigms, he said, adding, "We are making our own AI, on our own cloud, on our own chip." Despite India producing 20 per cent of the world's digital data at present, he lamented that the country does not fully own the data, as 80 per cent are stored outside, which are then processed into AI and "brought back into India and sold to us in dollars". When asked about concerns over AI leading to job losses, he allayed the apprehension saying that the IT boom created jobs in India when people feared that computers would take away jobs, and AI is a similar tool. "AI is not going to replace anyone. Maybe that future is a few decades away... We don't need to get anxious about that future right now. We need to, as a country, see that AI is going to amplify productivity. If we don't get onto the bandwagon, we will be left behind...," he asserted. In his view, Aggarwal said the way forward is for India to become experts in future technology. "Future technologies bring with it jobs of the future, supply chain of the future. And if we are global leaders, we are the fastest adoptive market of future technologies (then) jobs of the future will be built in India, supply chains of the future will be built in India. This is the only way... If we focus on protecting the past, you remain uncompetitive," he added. Sharing his take on employment generation in India, Aggarwal said, "I actually believe the private sector has to do the bulk of the job creation. The government's job is to create the enabling environment, create the fundamentals, help correct imbalances wherever they are, be it trade imbalances, etc and incentivise wherever it needs to be incentivised, like the PLI schemes." The government's steps such as the employment-linked incentives will also encourage private industry, he said, adding "But fundamentally the private sector has to step up and do more". Asked if the government is doing enough to create that ecosystem for the private sector, Aggarwal said, "I'm not in the government, so I want to put the limelight on ourselves. Is the private sector doing enough? I think we all can do more, and I'm on the same page. We all need to do more." In response to a query on his views over the government in extending the fiscal concession that companies like Tesla have been demanding from India, he said, "It is very important for India to attract all kinds of investment, especially (from) world leading companies. "Tesla is a best in class company. The more companies like these invest into India, the better it is for India, in a broad sense as well for the industry." He further said, "The (EV) ecosystem, including my company, will benefit from it, because it will raise the bar on expertise, on excellence, on talent, everything..." About the newly-listed entity Ola Electric, he said, "Our mission at Ola electric is to really make India a global EV hub." The company will build products such as electric two and three-wheelers that Indians need for the country to be able to invent an EV and energy transition paradigm for itself, different from the current global solution for sustainability that is focussed on electric luxury cars, Aggarwal added. On Ola Consumer, he said the ride-hailing mobility vertical is fairly profitable, while it is investing into the new e-commerce for which it has partnered with ONDC.

Business Insider has verified his employment history.I joined McKinsey right after graduating from my masters in India.I spent the next three years with the company in <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moved-to-us-from-india-big-tech-changed-me-2024-7">India</a>, then moved to the company's office in Dubai for two years, and then to Amsterdam. Getting a chance to live and work overseas was a dream.A little while after moving to Amsterdam, I decided that I had had enough consulting. The constant travel was also getting tiring. I left McKinsey and worked for the Dutch bank ING as a corporate strategist for over a year before moving to the logistics company Wayfair in 2019. I was one of the first employees in the Berlin office, tasked with building the company's international business, which I still think was the most challenging but fulfilling period of my career.<h2 id="893dd95a-7f9c-4453-bde6-beb32c14f608">Life in Europe</h2>Things were going well from a lifestyle point of view, too.I enjoyed being done with work by 5 or 6 p.m. and having the rest of the day to myself. Many of my friends back home have <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/quit-tech-job-launch-startup-now-make-400000-2024-4">built startups</a> or venture capital careers. I wanted to be part of India's growth story.I also felt like there was no career growth for me in Europe. In India, I had a big network from India's top tech and management schools and because of my time at McKinsey.I also wanted to be close to family, especially since my parents are getting older.My inflection point was realizing in mid-2023 that my career had stagnated because I was at a senior level and was finding it difficult to grow. The <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ukrainian-women-train-blue-collar-jobs-workforce-gap-war-electrician-2024-8">war in Ukraine</a> and other macroeconomic factors like inflation also affected my decision.I worked with a professional coach before making a firm decision. <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/took-sabbatical-returned-work-better-employeee-2024-9">I traveled around Latin America</a>, and being in a new environment really sealed the deal for me.<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/quit-job-at-meta-bali-trip-moved-into-childhood-home-2024-8">I quit my job</a> and finally moved back to India in May.<h2 id="93bdcf9f-12d3-4eba-9b17-bc4210b5a753">Adjusting back</h2>After <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/us-and-uk-life-biggest-differences-after-moving-home-space-2024-7">a decade of living away</a>, there are things I'm having to get used to again.I'm still adapting to the pollution, the traffic, and the sheer number of people. The number of cars and two-wheelers on the road has exploded, which makes driving and parking a lot more stressful.But some things have also become much more convenient since I left 10 years ago.I remember having to call a restaurant if I ever wanted to eat in, but India now has food and grocery delivery services that promise to deliver any food or household items in under 10 minutes.It's a lot easier to find and afford domestic support, and I have a cook. For my friends with newborn children, live-in nannies are available. These feel like huge luxuries compared to Europe, where my immigrant friends struggled with childcare — their parents were happy to help but could only stay in Germany for 90 days at a time.I'm also able to afford an all-inclusive apartment complex, where I have easy access to a pool, a gym, and a supermarket.I'm volunteering as a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/india-vc-wants-see-5-traits-new-founders-fundraising-antler-2024-8">mentor for startups</a> at an incubator at my alma mater and have noticed a big mindset shift among people in their early 20s. When I graduated with my engineering degree, my classmates and I thought our only career options were to join a company, study abroad for a master's, or pursue an MBA at the Indian Institute of Management.But the students now are a lot more willing to take risks and dive into entrepreneurship.I'm currently on a career break. I want to familiarize myself with India again and then hope to build a venture of my own in the next few years.

Freshers feel the heat as IT majors put onboarding on indefinite hold

<ul><li>The government has had initiatives like Skill India Mission, Digital University, and it would be interesting to see what kind of investments continue from a <keyword id="6358021" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="budget" source="Orion">budget</keyword> standpoint. </li><li>On the tax front, reform of ESOP taxation, there should be only Capital Gains tax on the difference between the grant price and sale price of shares. </li><li>Health insurance is predominantly focussed on inpatient benefits, and we need to do more on in-person outpatient access. </li></ul>The next few years are going to be turbulent for the global economy. Still working through post-Covid recovery, we are already confronted with new challenges of looming recession, high inflationary pressure, dealing with new models of the future of work and significant talent crunch. Next 12 months will need leaders and businesses to navigate complexities not seen before. India will hopefully continue to remain a bright spark. Over the next few years, the biggest challenge for companies in India will be not lack of capital, but talent availability in quality and quantity to fuel and drive growth. India needs to bring new talent to work, develop new talent hubs and build skills and capabilities rapidly to realize its full potential. Here are a few things that can help India Inc become more competitive; skills easier to develop and build; workplaces more exciting and life of employees easier. <ul><li>Skill Gap Challenge has been a big area of focus for the government. Its relevance for organizations as they evolve their businesses into becoming more digital focused cannot be emphasized enough. The government has been focusing in this area with initiatives like Skill India Mission, Digital University, etc. and it would be interesting to see what kind of investments continue from a budget standpoint for skilling in India. The Union Education Minister made a statement recently highlighting government focus and more funds to be allocated for the implementation of the NEP (National Education Policy) in the new budget. Employees will prefer an exemption on the money spent for reskilling spent on themselves and families (currently this is applicable for fees paid for children). This could provide a financial motive for individuals to invest in themselves. Given the fast-changing technology, reskilling will become more like a norm rather than a necessity especially as the government pushes India as a manufacturing hub and help India accelerate its journey towards digital readiness. Skill development and continuous supply of skills will be one of the most important aspects that will drive business performance and growth in years to come. </li></ul><ul><li>On the tax front, reform of ESOP taxation, there should be only Capital Gains tax on the difference between the grant price and sale price of shares. No perquisite tax on exercise as the shares are not freely tradable (or say ready market isn’t available). This provision is at present available to only recognised startups in India. This should be extended to all private companies in India. In addition, many business leaders in India have asked for a greater push for ESPS (Employee Share Purchase Programs). In this, employee shells out a part of their monthly salaries towards contribution to a fund (and equally matched by the employer) for purchasing the shares of the company on a later date. This can also be made part of Employee Provident Fund regulations. This will ensure ownership/ skin-in-the-game. </li><li>Tax and incentives on aspects like the gig workforce and employing greater women in the workforce will significantly increase talent supply and provide much needed fuel to businesses. Higher talent supply will also help control double digit salary increases that India Inc cannot afford on a continuous basis. </li><li>Some of the other areas where clarity and policy would help include, clearer roadmap and faster adoption of labour codes and clarity around wage definitions, relaxation of rules around retrenchment/layoffs, clarity on moonlighting and long-term policy on remote work in the context of SEZ. </li><li>On the health and wellbeing front, increased focus on tax sops for preventive care and support for outpatient benefits via higher tax-free limits or encouraging investments in enabling infrastructure. In addition, health check-up tax benefits are limited to ₹5,000 today and this is inadequate for single income families (maybe get it to ₹10,000). Also, the health insurance market is predominantly focussed on inpatient (hospitalization) benefits, and we need to encourage early detection of illness hence encourage citizens to access primary care (telemedicine is being already enabled via National Health Mission initiatives but we need to do more on in-person outpatient access). Post-pandemic (which required outpatient benefit access) there is a heightened awareness of these limitations and hence the need to support this now given these are expensive. </li><li>Some other areas of opportunity here include increases support on healthcare infrastructure private investments, review of 18% GST on insurance medical benefit plans which also do not get input tax credit today, need to regulate healthcare sector delivery (hospitals for example) and resultant cost increases (which are currently fully market dictated today). Also, there is a need to increase social security provisions for healthcare for employees particularly in the post retirement phase via new initiatives. This can be part-funded by willing employees themselves. For at least the next 12 months, protecting cash and margins will be a crucial performance metric for businesses. “Everybody is trying to balance growth and margins. Since the growth is going to be muted, they want to get to a healthy margin that will compensate for muted or less than projected growth. So companies will focus on cash conservation and the margins. Whichever businesses have a high reliance on people costs, will come under a lens. There is a bit of a rationalization that is going to take but the rationalization is not going to be to the extent of what we are witnessing coming in from the West,” says Sandeep Chaudhary, CEO, PeopleStrong, a human capital management SaaS platform. As we know, the IT Industry is saddled heavily with cost pressures, and naturally, employees will be the subject of scrutiny. “With enough business not coming in and on the contrary, carrying the 2022 baggage of employment offers already rolled out, the quickest way to save money is to cut down people-related costs. Any cost-cutting measure helps companies to marginally cross over turbulence,” says Pratik Vaidya, MD &amp; chief vigilance officer at Karma Global, a tech enabled HR &amp; Compliance Organisation. Despite a slow year, tech global capability centers (GCCs) in India had a high talent demand of over four lakh candidates for FY23, with a current active demand of 30,000. The IT sector, including tech services, products, and startups, has over 112,000 active job openings despite market challenges. The talent demand outlook for FY24 is expected to be similar to FY23. Attrition rates among tech cohorts remain significantly high in the over 15% range as the best talent continues to be poached and exchanged between employers. “While expansion hiring is a choice, replacement hiring isn't. With a sustained demand for top talent, employers know talent is precious and replacements are expensive. In a larger context, the comparative costs of keeping the perks on is lower compared to the costs of hiring, training and orienting,” says Karanth. He adds that amidst a larger austerity script, it is also an equally important messaging to resize or remove the perks. So with near normalcy in office, perks will be there but these will be mainly to attract and retain employees and for appreciation and recognition. However, some of the ‘cool’ perks are likely to go. The laptop comes with a minimalistic design, featuring an X symbol at the back and the Alienware logo that lights up. The logo’s colour can be customized according to your preference. In terms of ports, the Alienware x16 R2 comes with an audio jack, a microSD card slot, a USB Type-C port with Thunderbolt 4, a Type-C 3.2 Gen port, 2 x Type-A USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports and a HDMI 2.1 port. As it is a gaming laptop, the company has employed several measures to keep the temperature down. It comes with the company’s Alienware Cryo-tech cooling technology. While the display lacks HDR support, it comes with Dolby Vision support, offering an excellent viewing experience. The lack of HDR may be an issue as this means you will miss out on HDR in games. The peak brightness is also on the lower side at 300 nits. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Performance" comment="subhead" text="Performance">Performance</cmsannotation> The Alienware x16 R2 is equipped with up to Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor. The Intel Core Ultra is a new Meteor Lake chipset from the company. The laptop is available with up to 32GB LPDDR5X 7467 MHz RAM and up to 4TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD. The graphic duties are handled by the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 16GB GDDR6 graphics. I tested the laptop with several games, including games such as Red Dead Redemption 2 and Forza Horizon 5. Both the games performed well and the laptop was able to handle them without any issues. The powerful hardware means that you will be able to run any game with the best graphics without even having to look at the system requirements for a long time. I was able to play games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Alan Wake 2 at the highest graphic settings without any issues. The laptop’s cooling technology can keep the device cool during extended gaming sessions so you don’t have to worry about performance throttling. The laptop is equipped with a 90Whr battery and offers a decent battery life considering it is a gaming laptop. It offers around six hours of battery life but this will significantly come down if you game on it. The Alienware x16 R2 offers a six-speaker setup with spatial audio. The device offers a good audio experience. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Verdict" comment="subhead" text="Verdict">Verdict</cmsannotation> The Alienware x16 R2 is a feature-packed laptop that offers powerful hardware, a good display and a decent battery life. The laptop also offers a good all-metal chassis with a minimalistic design but can also light up like a regular gaming laptop when you need it to. At the same time, the laptop is not very portable due to its large size and weight. If you want a laptop that you can easily carry around, this may not be the best option for you. Then again, If you are looking for a gaming laptop that you won’t carry around every day, the x16 R2 is a good option. The price is another thing that you need to consider. It is a very premium laptop and while it offers excellent hardware, you need to consider if it fits your budget. Foreign institutional investors (FII) have so far sold equities worth $6.1 billion in 2023 so far, but the analysts at Axis Securities believe that the worst of FII selloff is behind us now. Going forward, the brokerage believes that economic recovery and corporate earnings will take centrestage. Nifty50’s current valuations provide a ‘good entry point’ The benchmark Nifty50 index declined by 3.3% in 2023 so far, and the recent correction has dragged down the index’ price-to-earnings multiple to 17.4x on a 12-month forward basis. This is below its 5-year average of 18.8x. “Current valuations are below the 5-year average (18.8x), providing a good entry point for long-term investors,” said the Axis Securities report. In terms of sectors, the brokerage says that valuations of PSU banks, metal, and energy look attractive, while IT, pharma and auto sectors look expensive. Analysts at Goldman Sachs are overweight on banks, industrials and cement companies, while those at Morgan Stanley are bullish on the financial and consumer discretionary sectors. Capitalise on dips, say analysts Following on from the see-saw movement seen in March, analysts expect volatility to persist in the Indian equity markets in April due to global uncertainties. However, investors can capitalise on this volatility to employ a ‘buy on dips’ strategy. “Bouts of volatility cannot be ruled out owing to global uncertainties. Thus, dips should be capitalised on to accumulate quality stocks,” the analysts at ICICI Direct said. Echoing similar sentiments, analysts at Goldman Sachs recommend buying on dips, saying, “The valuation of the stocks is reasonable, though still not cheap. The relative premium to the region has halved from a record peak and the returns would be driven by 17%/15% earnings growth in 2023/24.” There is also a growing consensus amongst brokerages that Nifty50 might end this year around 20,000. While Axis Securities maintained its target of 20,400 for the benchmark index by the end of this year, Goldman Sachs said in a note that Nifty50 is likely to touch 20,000 in the next 12 months thanks to double-digit earnings growth in FY24. After the Ides of March, analysts pick best stocks that can be bought on dips

<ul class="summary-list"><li>A Gen X couple moved 15 times in 25 years, bouncing across Canada and Taiwan. </li><li>They said Taiwan was much more affordable than Canada, but that they missed their families. </li></ul>Becky Martin and her husband, Craig Schmidt, recently set a record as a couple: They've lived in the same place for nearly five years.In the roughly 25 years they've been together, they've moved 15 different times across Canada and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/new-yorker-moved-taiwan-salary-lifestyle-rent-comparison-essay-2023-11">Taiwan</a>, Martin, 45, told Business Insider via email. It's had a mixed impact on their finances and well-being.Early on, moving was great for the couple from a financial perspective. In the early 2000s, when they were based in Burlington, Ontario, Martin said they were "drowning" in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/biden-student-debt-relief-supreme-court-how-countries-handle-loans-2023-3">student loan debt</a>, working intense hours, and struggling to save any money. But then they were presented with an idea.An old college roommate of Martin's had moved to Taiwan and recommended she do the same to take advantage of the country's <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/taiwan-lifestyle-expats-healthcare-travel-feature-2021-5">lower cost-of-living</a>. They took the leap and paid off roughly $30,000 ($40,000 in Canadian dollars) in combined debt in just one year, Martin said.However, the couple decided to return to Canada after two years. Several moves and over two decades later, Martin said relocating so often took a significant toll on their finances."The financial impact is continually burning through the money you've saved to start again," she said. "It's a vicious cycle. The loss you sustain selling all your possessions for a fraction of the cost, the cost of flights, moving fees, VISAs, first and last month's rent, buying a new vehicle, and furnishings. The result is you never really get ahead."In recent years, the flexibility of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moving-away-big-city-bad-career-job-market-suburbs-2024-4">remote work</a> and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/home-prices-rising-locations-housing-market-supply-falling-mortgage-rates-2024-5">high housing costs</a> have motivated many Americans to move to areas with <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/americans-regretting-moves-from-city-to-suburbs-housing-crisis-millennials-2023-11">lower costs of living</a>. But Business Insider has spoken with <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/americans-regretting-moves-from-city-to-suburbs-housing-crisis-millennials-2023-11">several individuals</a> who, for a variety of reasons, came to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/relocation-regret-biggest-mistake-lesson-2024-4">regret their moves</a>.Many others have looked at the financial and emotional costs of moving and decided they're not worth it. In 2022, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.census.gov/library/stories/2023/09/why-people-move.html">8.7%</a> of Americans lived in a different residence than they did a year ago, only up slightly from the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/americans-are-moving-less-social-demographic-changes-2022-8">record low rate</a> of 8.4% in 2021. There are <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/americans-are-moving-less-social-demographic-changes-2022-8">many explanations</a> for this trend, but in recent years, some people have been hesitant to give up their <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/baby-boomers-wont-sell-homes-millennials-kids-need-housing-affordability-2024-1">low mortgage rates</a>, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-much-kids-cost-raising-child-inflation-childcare-tax-exemptions-2024-1">childcare support</a>, and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/why-hard-to-find-job-us-though-unemployment-low-2024-2">current employment</a>. The <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hidden-costs-moving-2018-7">cost of moving</a> can be a deterrent as well.Martin and Schmidt shared why they moved so often, how they balanced finances with other priorities, and whether they regretted relocating as much as they did. Business Insider viewed several documents to verify their moves.<h2 id="9061b7d3-1865-4cee-86e5-4fb6ca12f52c">Moving to Taiwan was great for their finances — but came with downsides</h2><div type="image" title="moving to Taiwan, Canada" height="945" width="1260" msid="110034923" hostid="261" sizebytes="81466"></div>Martin is a child and youth worker, while Schmidt is a graphic designer. When they lived in Taiwan, they both worked as English teachers. In 2004, after two years in Taiwan, during which they moved three times, the couple decided to return to Canada, in part so they could return to their careers and families.The couple bounced around to several different residences over the next few years but set out to live a "traditional married life" in which they excelled at their jobs, found a home, had kids, and lived "happily ever after," Martin said.But they found this dream difficult to accomplish, in part because their finances began to strain again, and debt started piling up.So in 2009, the couple decided to move back to Taiwan. Martin said they paid off about $33,000 in debt ($45,000 in Canadian dollars) in a year-and-a-half and lived in an apartment with a beautiful view for less than $1,000 a month."We knew the job, the culture, the weather, expectations, and how much money we could make and save," she said.This time, they stayed in Taiwan for over seven years, moving twice during this span. But they eventually found themselves missing family and friends."Being over 12,000 kilometers away from people meant that you couldn't share your life with those important to you," Martin said. "With aging parents and some deaths in the family, we decided to move back to Canada for good."She said the "hidden costs of moving," which included having to say goodbye to meaningful relationships, had become apparent to them."Every time we left, our foundation would crumble," she said. "We had to start making a solid foundation if we wanted a solid life."<h2 id="2806b727-8542-4215-ab9c-c8ededebe627">The best places to live in Asia from a financial perspective</h2>Martin said it took them some time to transition back to Canada and figure out where they wanted to settle down.They initially moved back to Stratford, Ontario before moving to Kitchener, where they've resided for about the last five years. Martin said Kitchener is close enough to Toronto to enjoy the city but far enough away to avoid the high costs and congestion.From a financial perspective, Martin said she doesn't think there's a "good place" to live in Canada — you just have to find a way to make it work."Canada is expensive and the only cheaper places are far north," she said. "The further north you go, the cheaper it gets, but it's far away from most people, job opportunities, and nicer weather."Based on Martin's personal research and experience, she said Taiwan is one of the few places in Asia that checks two boxes: low cost of living and relatively high pay."Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and big cities in China are all very expensive places to live — you make more but pay more," she said. "If you decide on places like the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and India, are all exciting and beautiful places, but pay little. The cost of living is low, but so is your salary."Martin said the language barrier was one of the main downsides of living in Taiwan. She said Mandarin, a common language in Taiwan, is a very difficult language to learn.Despite the stress and financial challenges that came with moving so often, Martin said she has "no regrets.""I've learned so much about myself by starting over again and again," she said. "My relationship with Craig has only gotten stronger and we have a million stories and experiences to talk about and revisit."Schmidt agreed."It strengthened our marriage and gave us opportunities to reinvent ourselves," he said. <ul><li>There is no law in India that states that the wife should get a certain percent of their husband's income or wealth as <keyword id="6406198" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="alimony" source="Orion">alimony</keyword>. </li><li>Actual settlement amount depends on the lawyer, the income of the husband and number of dependents, among other factors. </li><li>If there is accusation of mental cruelty or domestic physical violence against the husband, those will have to be tested before the court. </li></ul>In the process of reaching an agreement following their divorce, Nawaz Modi Singhania, 53, the separated spouse of billionaire industrialist Gautam Singhania, has reportedly requested 75% of his purported $1.4 billion fortune for herself and their two daughters. When Bollywood star Hrtithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan divorced in 2013, she had reportedly demanded ₹400 crore as alimony. It was later settled at ₹100 crore, though not confirmed. High-profile divorce cases make headlines, and when industrialists are involved they may also affect share prices. But when a divorce happens and the wife makes an alimony claim, how do things pan out? "The court will look at the education levels of the person and their ability to be employed while deciding alimony. It's very unlikely that somebody will get 75% of the assets," said Delhi-based corporate lawyer Anuroop Omkar, founding partner of law firm AK &amp; Partners. There is no law on settlement percentage There is no rule in India which says that you have to give so and so percent to your wife as alimony. “It depends on a number of factors. One of them is what is your strategy to get the money- what is the lawyer’s strategy, what are arguments, what is your lawyer’s research. This happens because there is no set rule,” says Vandana Shah, a divorce lawyer. So the actual settlement amount depends on the lawyer, the income of the husband,what the wife is earning and depends on what comes out in court. It also depends on the number of dependents. In the Rajnesh vs Neha divorce case, a few years ago, the court ruled that there's no fixed formula to determine the amount of maintenance to be granted. The awarded maintenance should be fair and practical, ensuring that it enables the wife to sustain herself comfortably and reasonably. The adequacy of the sum should be assessed based on the wife's ability to maintain herself with a reasonable standard of living. “Since November 2020, as per Rajnesh V/s Neha as per the Supreme Court guidelines, every wife who makes a claim for maintenance,makes an application in the prescribed format which - includes the financials of the wife, her monthly expenses, investments, properties she owns and so on. The husband is also expected to file his application with his financials in the format prescribed by the Supreme Court,” says S<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/sandhya-vasudevan-sondhi-1099215/overlay/about-this-profile/">andhya Vasudevan Sondhi</a>, founder, SVS Legal, a Mumbai-based boutique law firm that handles family matters. Outside court settlement It is advised that such separation issues be amicably dealt with. Especially in the case of the Singhanias, there will be allegations and counter allegations by both the parties, especially since the tenure of marriage is long. “Looking at the gravity of the whole situation and looking at the children and the long tenure of marriage, if both the parties talk it out and settle the matter, it could be wonderfully handled. If a divorce can be done in a mutual way, it works in the best interest of both the parties, the children and also the respective families,” says Advocate Siddhartha Shah , a divorce lawyer. The law thus provides a solution to this. Section 28 of the special marriage act, talks about of divorce by mutual consent. “If there are unreasonable claims, then one of the parties may not agree. Then the court will have to look at each and every aspect of the accusations and then the court will have to weigh it according to the primary and secondary evidence that is produced before the court,” says Shah. It is noteworthy that if there is accusation of mental cruelty or domestic physical violence against the husband, that will have to be tested before the court. Then the case goes to trial and that can become a time consuming process.
