Mumbai, Apr 8 () Tata Motors on Wednesday said it is focusing on the supply of essentials to the communities most affected the COVID-19 lockdown, facilitating production of protective gears and medical kits to curb spread of COVID-19 as part of its CSR initiative. The company has so far provided over 25,000 packets of cooked meals and over 5,000 grocery kits (ration) to migrants and stranded communities, urban slums, drivers, co-drivers, mechanics, contractual and temporary workers, among others as part of the initiative, Tata Motors said in a release. In addition to this, the company has established two helpline numbers for temporary and contractual workmen for food related requests in Lucknow and is providing water to 19 police stations and traffic police in Pune, it said. Tata Motors also said it has partnered with Indian Oil Corporation to distribute food packets and personal protective kits to truck drivers visiting companies "Saarthi Aaram Kendra (SAK)" in Narsapura (near Bengaluru) and Bawal (near Gurugram). Besides, the company is supporting and assisting self-help groups to manufacture home-made certified masks and sanitisers for distribution across hospitals, vendors, health-workers, police stations, army personnel and in communities around the company's plants. Till date, the company has enabled the manufacturing of 17,000 home-made certified masks, it said, adding that it has also facilitated N95 masks, sanitisers and personal protective equipment kits that are being distributed to municipal hospitals.  On 2 June 2019, a video of women filling bucket from the water leaked by a water tanker over the road went viral on social media, reported India spend. More than 100 districts across the country are officially affected by drought. Most of the districts (80%) in Karnataka and Maharashtra (72%) are hit by drought and crop failure. As many as 8.2 million farmers are struggling for livelihood. With scarcity comes strife. The state governments of Karnataka and Maharashtra — are now fighting over sharing water resources. Every day, Maharashtra government is sending 6,000 water tankers to 4,920 villages and 10,506 hamlets or settlements (bastis) in drought-hit areas. In the South, the Tamil Nadu government had to sanction Rs 233 crore to initiate emergency water projects. The state capital — Chennai— had to shut down the air conditioning to save as much as 9,000 litres a day. People have to stand in line for hours and they get foul-smelling water that might have been mixed with sewage. Karnataka too was forced to shut schools for a week due to water scarcity. Separately, residents of Bhilwara in Rajasthan have to keep water ‘locked’ in tankers since they depend on drinking water that is supplied once in 10 days. They are worried that it might be stolen! AP New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad are amongst the 21 cities that will run out of groundwater by 2020. This will affect as many as 100 million people, claims a report by NITI Ayog. Furthermore, 40% of India’s population will struggle for drinking water by 2030. With India’s water crisis deepening by the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently created Ministry of Jal Shakti that is going to look after the water resource management. Modi also reiterated his promise to provide piped water to every rural house in India by 2024. However, analysts have claimed that won’t be enough.  The Drought Early Warning System (DEWS) reported that 43.4% areas in the country are under drought as of 30 May 2019. A delayed monsoon is among the primary reasons for the current crisis. In the last five years, 2017 was the only year when India did not experience drought, reported India spend. Both South west monsoon and North-east monsoon were lower than usual. Last year, India Meteorological Department said that the ‘post-monsoon’ rainfall — responsible for 10-20% of the India’s monsoon — was lower by 44%. And the pre-monsoon rainfall was the lowest it saw in the last 65 years. Experts fear that India is soon going to witness Day Zero if no action is taken on time.

So, we had to arm ourselves with taking quick decisions while not having all the relevant information. These were the lens through which we saw every decision and we empowered our teams for agile decision making. We have also introduced various combo packs for our food portfolio creating and further driving in-home consumption.Q: What are the investment plans for PepsiCo in India? A: Within 30 years of our establishment in India, PepsiCo India has grown exponentially to emerge as the largest Food and Beverage company in the country. This commitment is a part of our previously disclosed commitment to invest $5.5 billion in India and includes our plan to double our manufacturing capabilities locally in the next five years, to cater to the ever-increasing demand of our products among the consumers. In recent years, we have announced an investment of Rs 514 Crores in a new foods facility in Uttar Pradesh which will provide 1,500 direct/indirect jobs. We have also invested in increasing capacity at our existing foods plants in West Bengal and Maharashtra and have additionally proposed to set up a greenfield project in Assam. The notification for the model approval process in Delhi and Mumbai is expected soon. 
 In an interview with <keyword id="691108" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="MagicBricks">Magicbricks</keyword>, he said that there will be an online process through which applications will be sent and approvals will come in 60 days. Even in some case, if that approval doesn’t come through, the owner or developer can file an affidavit and start construction. Efforts are on to implement the process across the country. 
 
He also thinks that the whole country needs to follow this and trying to implement this, the centre has invited all states for a discussion on these issues on February 28, 2017 in Delhi.

State participation is key to achieving adequate infrastructure and infrastructure is the essence of realising the 'Housing for All 2022' dream. 
 
Naidu said that affordable housing will be a success only when states perform. Around 23,000 houses lie vacant in Delhi alone because of lack of infrastructure. 
 
"Where there are people there are no houses and now there are houses with nobody residing in them. It is a grave problem," said Naidu. 
 
The main infrastructure concern areas are drainage, sewage, main roads, byroads, rain water drainage, maintenance of water bodies, etc. 
It is a joint effort by the Centre, states and local bodies.
