Somanath on Thursday said that about 100 startups have registered with the space agency and are working closely in various domains. Addressing a plenary session at the <keyword id="5986217" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bengaluru-tech-summit" source="Orion">Bengaluru Tech Summit</keyword> 2022 on 'R&amp;D of India: Innovation for Global Impact', he said that the ISRO has signed MoUs with companies to work closely which include hand-holding in space technology and building processes from start to finish. Somanath said a significant number of companies have the potential to become big players in the space sector and ISRO is playing the role of facilitator and helping in building technologies, adding that out of the 100 startups at least 10 of them are working on developing satellites and rockets. He also announced that Chandrayaan 3 mission will be in orbit in a few months adding that ISRO is working closely with <keyword id="6360409" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nasa" source="Orion">NASA</keyword> in space technology areas. He said the computer that was used in the rocket was made in India. In his brisk presentation, he said space tourism has picked up in the world with startups evincing interest in various applications which impact day-to-day activities. The ISRO chairman said that the agency is playing an important role in smart city projects and smart manufacturing processes. He said some of the areas that ISRO is working on include bringing back satellite technology, propulsion systems used in engine manufacturing which have been successfully tested, green and hybrid propulsion systems, nuclear propulsion, the launch of small rockets with the use of additive technologies, energy storage systems, functional materials, carbon fibre technology, electronic devices, robotics, drone technologies, <keyword id="6518536" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="quantum" source="Orion">quantum</keyword> technology used in encryption and disruptive technologies. 100 startups registered with ISRO to work in space tech domains: Chairman

Addressing the <keyword id="9961359" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="bengaluru-tech-summit-2020">Bengaluru Tech Summit 2020</keyword> (BTS2020) virtually, Modi said, India is at the sweet spot and it is time for tech solutions that are designed in India, but deployed for the world. Stating that his government's policy decisions are always aimed at liberalising the tech and innovations industry, Modi said, recently we have eased the compliance burden on the IT industry in various ways, besides we have always tried to engage with stakeholders in the tech industry and chart out future policy framework for India. The Prime Minister also noted that today Digital India has become a way of life particularly for the poor, marginalised and for those in government. "Thanks to Digital India our nation has witnessed a more human-centric approach to development. Using technology on such a large scale had brought about several life changes for our citizens," he said. Stating that his government has successfully created a market for digital and tech solutions, but it has made technology a key part of all schemes, Modi said, our governance model is technology first. "Through technology we have enhanced human dignity. Millions of farmers receive monetary support in one click, at the peak of COVID lockdown it was technology that ensured that India's poor received proper and quick assistance. The scale of this relief has few parallels," he added. Organised by the government of Karnataka along with Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society, Karnataka government's Vision Group on Information Technology, Biotechnology &amp; StartUp, and Software Technology Parks of India, the summit is scheduled to take place from November 19 to 21. More than 25 nations are participating in the 23rd edition of the event along with thought leaders, industry captains, technocrats, researchers, innovators, investors, policy-makers and educators from India and different parts of the world, officials said. The event will have the participation of more than 200 Indian companies setting up their virtual exhibition, more than 4,000 delegates, 270 speakers, around 75 panel discussions and more than 50,000 participants every day, an official statement said. Addressing a session on the 'future of mobility' at the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2022 on Friday, Anjum Parwez, Managing Director, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (<keyword id="6367448" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BMRCL" source="Orion">BMRCL</keyword>), said as part of the second and third phase of the project, Bengaluru will have 314 km of metro rail connectivity by 2041. He said construction of metro lines is also progressing well on the airport side. He said the biggest challenge in urban mobility is the integration of multi-modal transport systems and moving people to get into public transport from personalised transport modes. Parwez said urban India was the most neglected area until the 1990s, as urban planning was not in sync with connectivity or mobility issues. He said BMRCL is getting a lot of support from startups in mobility to ensure that commuters have last-mile connectivity. He said the corporation is tying up with mobility providers to get people to reach the nodal point and commute to their workplaces. Parwez said the <keyword id="6367447" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Namma-Metro" source="Orion">Namma Metro</keyword> has recently gone digital with its payment options that include the use of QR code scans and UPI-based payment options which has met with good response from commuters. Also, there is no waiting time for passengers who are in a hurry as there is no need to stand in queues to buy tickets or cards now. He said BMRCL is working on a transit-oriented development where commuters live close to the stations and to the workplace. Besides, the BMRCL also intends to integrate all aggregators by bringing out a mobility card for commuters. He said the corporation is in talks with BMTC to have bus stops at metro stations to help commuters hop on and hop off both modes of transport. He said bike taxis and carpooling should be encouraged although the government of Karnataka had put brakes on their operation. The BMRCL is also working on introducing shopping options for commuters inside and outside the metro stations. He said the BMRCL plans to sell office space in metro stations and provide end-to-end solutions to all the stakeholders. Amit Bhatt, Managing Director of the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), said urbanisation in India is 33 per cent while it is about 80-85 per cent in European and American countries. He said about 66 per cent of urban infrastructure is yet to be built in India as the country is set to see a number of cities being built. The biggest challenge is to ensure zero emission, zero exclusion and zero accidents in urban transport, he said. Vadiraj Krishnamurthy, Vice President of Technology and Innovation, Bosch Global Software Technologies, said the future is software-defined fully programmable vehicles. "The key enablers of urban transport are personalised multi-modal mobility, automated mobility, electrified and connected mobility. Connecting vehicles using technology is an engineering challenge of the future," he said. It will use Google’s gStation platform to create these zones, it said during Cisco India Summit 2019. The project to provide public Wi-Fi zones is already underway and is currently in its first phase of implementation. By September 2019, over 200 locations in Bengaluru, including hospitals, bus stops and government offices will be Wi-Fi enabled, followed by another 300 Wi-Fi zones in the second phase. Massive untapped potential According to a TRAI report, globally there is one Wi-Fi hotspot for every 150 users. In India, currently, there are only 52,000 Wi-Fi hotspots. To match the global ratio in India, eight million new hotspots must be installed. This has created a new market for infrastructure providers and ISPs in India. Speaking at the event, Sameer Garde, President, Cisco India &amp; SAARC, said, “We are excited to partner with Google to bring free, open, high-quality internet access to everyone in India. This also represents a significant growth opportunity, the demand for public Wi-Fi hotspots is expected to go up by 100X over the next 3 years, creating new markets for Cisco and our partners.” Wi-Fi as an extension of cellular networks Globally, telecom providers have started using Wi-Fi access points and zones as a means to offload users from the mobile network onto the more affordable Wi-Fi network. This allows users to maintain connectivity while de-congesting the mobile network. According to a report by CISCO VNI, almost 59% of the internet traffic will be offloaded from mobile networks to Wi-Fi by 2022. This market is ripe for the picking.

In a conversation with IANS, Sun who is an industry veteran with more than 18 years, said that the more informed the governments are on AI, the more enlightened decisions can be made to accelerate innovation without harming end-users. "The more we connect with the government on building responsible AI together, the more it will also become easier for us to innovate while talking about proper regulations for the whole industry," he noted. "We spend a lot of time talking to customers and working on the latest technologies. So governments can learn a lot from us in terms of helping provide the information they need to make better decisions," the SAP executive told on the sidelines of the company's flagship 'TechEd' conference in Bengaluru this week. After the successful AI Safety Summit in the UK, the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) in New Delhi next month will further deliberate upon the risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI) -- in the presence of world leaders -- before a global framework is reached in Korea next year, according to <keyword id="205969" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rajeev-chandrasekhar" source="Orion">Rajeev Chandrasekhar</keyword>, Minister of State for Electronics and IT. As the council chair of GPAI, India is set to host the annual summit at Pragati Maidan in Delhi from December 12-14. Sun's technological journey extends back to 2005, when he held pivotal roles in research and product development at Microsoft. Notably, he was instrumental in the creation of Bing Predicts, a pioneering platform utilising anonymised and aggregated data for predictive analytics. However, there is a major challenge being encountered- they aren't trained enough to use GenAI tools. <h2>90 percent women feel GenAI is a step towards career growth</h2>A new report by <keyword id="19955786" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nasscom" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="nasscom" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="nasscom">Nasscom</keyword> and Boston Consulting Group (<keyword id="20058186" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BCG" source="keywords">BCG</keyword>) has revealed that while 90% of women in India's tech industry view Generative AI (GenAI) as crucial for career growth, only one-third feel adequately prepared to use these technologies. Hence, even though women view GenAI as a crucial step in their professional journey, most of them still aren't confident using it. The report, titled "GenAI: The Diversity Game Changer We Can't Ignore," was unveiled at the nasscom Global Inclusion Summit in Bengaluru on August 8, 2024. The report highlights that women in both tech and non-tech roles exhibit high levels of professional ambition and are willing to put in extra effort to achieve success. This ambition is particularly pronounced in the AI/GenAI field, where women see mentorship as a key factor in their success. Currently, women make up 36% of India’s tech workforce but remain underrepresented in executive roles. GenAI, which involves advanced AI tools that can create new content, designs, and solutions, is seen as a game-changer for the tech industry. As GenAI is expected to dominate 33% of the global AI landscape by 2027, the market is projected to reach $320-380 billion. This rapid growth presents a unique opportunity for fostering gender diversity by helping women overcome traditional barriers and excel in their careers. The report reveals that women are ready to invest more time to achieve professional success in GenAI. According to the survey findings, 95% of junior, 96% of mid-management, and 100% of senior management women are prepared to put in extra effort. Women also view GenAI tools as a significant boost to their perceived competence, with 45% of <keyword id="20599228" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="women-in-tech" source="keywords">women in tech</keyword> roles feeling more confident compared to their non-tech peers. <h2>Challenges in GenAI adoption</h2>Despite the enthusiasm, many women at senior management levels face challenges in adopting GenAI tools. These challenges include limited knowledge, lack of trust, restricted access to these tools, and fear of competence scrutiny. Knowledge gaps are the primary barrier, cited by women across all levels from entry roles to the C-suite. Sangeeta Gupta, Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at nasscom, talked about the importance of addressing these challenges: “Despite significant progress in diversity and AI/GenAI adoption, substantial gaps still limit women's full potential in the tech industry. With GenAI set to dominate the tech industry, it is critical to address key challenges such as knowledge gaps and lack of support, to empower women, particularly in these roles.” Meanwhile, Sreyssha George, Managing Director and Partner, Boston Consulting Group said, "Globally, senior women lead in GenAI adoption, yet India lags with a 64% gender disparity in AI leadership. To capture the USD 320 billion AI market, India’s tech sector needs diversity. This will ensure effective systems by eliminating biases and incorporating varying ethical perspectives.
