Hyderabad lockdown pictures reveal its old-world charm and new age vibrancy

Efforts are underway by the unions to draw <keyword id="6367209" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="support">support</keyword> from farmers in other states like Bihar for their demand to enact a law assuring <keyword id="76332" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Minimum-Support-Price">Minimum Support Price</keyword> as the protest at the border points have been going on for almost four weeks now. On Monday, the farmers held a relay hunger strike at various protest sites in batches of 11. In the letter to 40 union leaders, the Joint Secretary in <keyword id="9313637" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-union-agriculture-ministry">the Union Agriculture Ministry</keyword>, Vivek Aggarwal, on Sunday asked them to specify their concerns over its earlier proposal of amendments in the laws and choose a convenient date for the next round of talks so that the ongoing agitation could end at the earliest. The sixth round of talks on December 9 was cancelled following a deadlock with the farmer unions refusing to budge from their demand for repealing the three laws. Owing to ongoing agitation, the Delhi Traffic Police said the Singhu, Auchandi, Piau Maniyari, and Mangesh borders are closed. It advised commuters to take alternative routes through the Lampur, Safiabad Saboli and Singhu school toll tax borders. Police said that as traffic has been diverted from Mukarba and the GTK road, people are suggested to avoid Outer Ring Road, the GTK road and National Highway (NH) 44. Those travelling to Haryana can go through the Jharoda (only single carriageway), Daurala, Kapashera, Badusarai, Rajokri NH-8, Bijwasan-Bajghera, Palam Vihar and Dundahera borders. According to the traffic police, Tikri and Dhansa borders are also closed for traffic but the Jhatikara border was open only for two-wheelers and pedestrians. At the Chilla border, the Delhi to Noida carriageway is open for traffic. The Noida to Delhi carriageway is, however, closed. The Ghazipur border was also closed for traffic movement. Enacted in September, the three farm laws have been projected by the central government as major reforms in the agriculture sector that will remove the middlemen and allow farmers to sell anywhere in the country. However, the protesting farmers have expressed apprehension that the new laws would pave the way for eliminating the safety cushion of Minimum Support Price and do away with the mandi system, leaving them at the mercy of big corporates. The government has repeatedly asserted that the MSP and mandi systems will stay and has accused the opposition of misleading the farmers. Farmer union leaders to meet today to decide on further discussions with government

The Delhi Police on Saturday increased deployment of personnel and placed more concrete barriers at <keyword id="10421167" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="various-border-points">various border points</keyword> as <keyword id="45092" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="farmers">farmers</keyword> have announced that they will intensify their protest against the Centre's new agri laws, with plans to block the Delhi-Jaipur highway and the Yumuna Expressway. There is no protest yet on Delhi's borders with Gurgaon and at other points of National Highway-8 that connects the national capital with Jaipur, a senior police officer said. "So far, there is no protest at Delhi-Gurgaon border. There is no disruption in traffic movement. However, we have <keyword id="10421168" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="proper-security-arrangements">proper security arrangements</keyword> in place to deal with any situation," the officer said. Taking to Twitter, social activist Yogendra Yadav, who is part of the ongoing protests, said farmers from areas in Rajasthan and Haryana are assembling on Saturday and their 'Delhi Chalo' march would begin on Sunday. "Farmers' 'Delhi march' on <keyword id="817624" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jaipur-Delhi">Jaipur-Delhi</keyword> highway will not start today and it will begin from Shahjahanpur border tomorrow. Today, farmers from Rajasthan and Haryana will congregate in Kotputli and Behror," Yadav tweeted in Hindi. The increase in security arrangement comes amid thousands of farmers protesting at various areas on Delhi's borders for the last 16 days and demanding that the legislations be withdrawn. The police have made adequate arrangements and these include multi-layered barricading and deployment of personnel. Measures have also been taken to ensure commuters do not face inconvenience at places were protest are being staged, another senior police officer said. The Delhi Traffic Police has deployed its personnel across important border points to ensure commuters do not face difficulties and is constantly updating people about open and closed routes on its Twitter handle. The developments come after farmer leaders on Wednesday rejected a government proposal to amend the new agri laws and announced they would intensify their agitation by blocking the Jaipur-Delhi and the Yamuna expressway by Saturday. In a tweet, the traffic police on Saturday informed commuters about the closure of the Singhu, Auchandi, Piau Maniyari and Mangesh borders. Since these borders are closed, it suggested that motorists take alternative routes via Lampur, Safiabad,Saboli and Singhu School toll tax borders. Traffic has been diverted from Mukarba and GTK Road. So, commuters have been advised to avoid Outer Ring Road, GTK Road and National Highway-44, the traffic police said. Farmers leaders on Thursday also announced they would block railway tracks across the country if their demands were not met by the government and would announce a date for that soon. At least five rounds of formal talks have taken place between the Centre and representatives of farmers, mainly from Punjab and Haryana, protesting on various borders of the national capital for over two weeks, but the deadlock has continued with the unions sticking to their main demand for the repeal of the three contentious laws. The sixth round of talks between the government and farm union leaders, which was scheduled for Wednesday morning, was cancelled. Delhi Transport Minister <keyword id="6391020" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gopal-Rai">Gopal Rai</keyword> on Saturday asserted that the government has no intention to take the road-rationing experiment odd-even formula beyond January 15 amid reports that the <keyword id="6830867" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="odd-even-scheme">odd-even scheme</keyword> may be extended,. 

	The pilot plan for cutting vehicular emission was launched on January 1.

	 Rai said that some confusion is also being spread that the plan was illegally imposed by the government, and claimed that under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicle Act, they have power to implement this scheme as such provisions were also made during the <keyword id="6354367" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Commonwealth-Games">Commonwealth Games</keyword> as per this law. 

	“Government is neither going to extend odd-even scheme beyond January 15 nor finish it before the 15-day trial period,” Rai said, terming some of media reports of extending the car-rationing scheme as “false”.
 

	He further said the traffic-restriction is just only for 15 days and after the trial period, government will study the data collected through it and will do a proper analysis, adding, it will then be able to take a final decision.
 

	Rai, who was at his residence held a meeting of Coordination Committee with officials concerned on the scheme, said from January 1-8, traffic police, transport and revenue departments have issued 5,893 challans for the violation of odd-even rules so far.
 

	“Out of these numbers, 2,912 challans were issued by SDMs and 2,260 by traffic police. Besides, enforcement wing of the transport department has issued 721 challans for violating odd-even rules so far,” he said.

	Apart from this, 1,943 challans were issued by the transport department to auto drivers for different violations including refusal to drive.
 

	The government has also received 13,528 calls on its two helplines in the last one week and most of them were related to queries about the scheme. Out of these calls, 395 were related to complaints against bus, auto drivers, and other issues.
 

	According to the minister, in view of traffic rush on some road stretches during peak hours, government has decided to deploy additional teams of transport department and traffic police to manage traffic there from Monday. The areas include, ITO, Ring Road, Outer Ring Road, Connaught Place, Mathura Road, Ashram, New Friends Colony, Nehru Place, Sarai Kale Khan, Hanuman Mandir Marg and Dhaula Kuan.
 

	“Government has also decided to do a close monitoring on the assigned works of civil defence volunteers. Teams of SDM have also formed in this regard,” he said.
 The fate of the odd-even vehicle scheme will be decided on January 11 by the <keyword id="6355014" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-High-Court">Delhi High Court</keyword> which had yesterday reserved its order on various pleas challenging the AAP government’s ambitious pilot project which will continue till then. 

	A bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath reserved the order after the Delhi government informed it that the pollution level of particulate matter across the national capital showed a declining trend due to implementation of the scheme.

Delhi govt decides not to extend odd-even scheme beyond January 15

India’s biggest eCommerce company, <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>, has sealed country’s single largest office space leasing deal at two million square feet custom-built office campus in IT hub Bengaluru. 
 
The company seeks to expand operations and workforce, which currently occupies five lakh square feet across the city. Flipkart was initially in talks with the <keyword id="252055" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Embassy-Group">Embassy Group</keyword> and vying for 3 million sq ft. However, the plan was revised and the deal was signed for 2 million sq ft for 20 years. Flipkart will pay rent at Rs 50 a month per sq ft. 
 
"Two million sq ft of office space seats over 20,000 people," a person involved in the transaction told Economic Times. 
Flipkart seeks to move all its operations from various offices to one location. 
 
Currently, its office space includes 106,000 sq ft in Mantri Commercio, 37,674 sq ft in Salarpuria Tech Point and 9,000 sq ft in Brigade Court. 
 
Flipkart confirmed the transaction, but didn't provide details. Head of Embassy Office Parks, Bhhavesh Kamdar, said the property will be delivered in two phases. “The Phase I comprising 1.5 million sq ft will be handed over in the next two years,” Kamdar told the financial daily. 
 
Meanwhile, Managing Director for South India at JLL, which was Flipkart’s adviser in the deal, Juggy Marwaha said that with the current supply-demand dynamics in Bengaluru, large occupiers who have better visibility of their business would find locking space in advance as the way forward. 
 
He told ET that Flipkart-Embassy deal was by far the single largest commitment of office space anywhere in the country "as a one-shot take up, without any option spaces reserved". 
 
The new campus will come up as part of Embassy Tech Village on the Outer Ring Road and will be owned by US private-equity giant Blackstone and Embassy Group.
